An example is given of an interaction that produces an infinite amount of entanglement in an infinitely short time, but only a finite amount in longer times. The interaction arises from a standard Kerr nonlinearity and a 50/50 beam splitter, and the initial state is a coherent state. For certain finite interaction times multidimensional generalizations of entangled coherent states are generated, for which we construct a teleportation protocol. Similarities between probabilistic teleportation and unambiguous state discrimination are pointed out. 相似文献

We investigate the Kerr nonlinearity of a V-type three-level atomic system where the upper two states decay outside to another state and hence spontaneous generated coherence may exist. It is shown that dark state and hence perfect transparency present under certain conditions. Meanwhile, the Kerr nonlinearity can be controlled by manipulation of the decay rates and the splitting of the two excited states. Therefore, enhanced Kerr nonlinearity without absorption can be obtained under proper parameters. 相似文献

We propose two schemes for preparing four-photon cluster state through
cross-Kerr nonlinearity. Two coherent fields interact when they enter a
nonlinear Kerr medium. If the interaction time is chosen appropriately in each Kerr medium, four-photon cluster state can be generated based on the results of two homodyne detectors in the first scheme. These schemes only use Kerr medium and homodyne measurements on coherent light fields, which can be efficiently made in quantum optical laboratories. In addition, weak cross-Kerr
nonlinearity is sufficient. All of the properties make these schemes

We propose a protocol to generate a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state andWstate by using simple linear elements and quantum nondemolition detectors (QNDs). With the help of cross-Kerr nonlinearity, our protocol can generate the intended states with only one setup, and the probability of getting a W state is greatly increased when compared with previous schemes [Phys. A four level ladder scheme is employed for the realization of slow light large Kerr nonlinear indices in an asymmetric semiconductor three-coupled-quantum-well (TCQW) structure based on intersubband transitions. It is shown that a giant Kerr nonlinearity accompanied with negligible loss can be achieved by properly tuning the intensity of the control fields. A dressed state analysis is given to explain the origin of such a transparency based on slow light enhanced Kerr nonlinearity in this solid medium. In addition, we show that the three-photon detuning plays the important role in enhancing the third-order nonlinearity of the TCQW medium, and may provide new possibilities for technological applications in nonlinear optics and optical switching. 相似文献

The giant enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity in a four-level inverted-Y atomic system is investigated theoretically. Compared with that generated in a generic three-level system, the Kerr nonlinearity can be enhanced by several orders of magnitude with vanishing linear absorption. By using the algebraic dynamical approach, an atom--field
bipartite system in mixed state is employed to investigate the
partial entropy change and the entanglement in a cavity filled with
Kerr medium. The effects of different nonlinear intensities are
studied. One can find that the Kerr nonlinearity can reduce the
fluctuation amplitudes of the partial entropy changes and the
entanglement of the two subsystems, and also influence their
periodic evolution. Meanwhile, increasing the Kerr nonlinear
strength can convert the anti-correlated behaviour of the partial
entropy change to the positively correlated behaviour. Furthermore,
the entanglement greatly depends on the temperature. When the
temperature or the nonlinear intensity increases to a certain value,

Pulse propagation of photon-added coherent states in waveguides with side-coupled nonlinear cavities
We present a theoretical analysis of pulse propagation in a waveguide with a side-coupled Kerr nonlinear cavity. As a specific application, we demonstrate how the nonlinearity has a profound influence on transport properties of a photon-added coherent state. We find that the fields provided by the coherent states facilitate a tunable nonlinearity on the few-photon level, allowing for a robust gating of single photons. 相似文献

The effect of quantum interference from incoherent pump field on the Kerr nonlinearity of V- and Lambda-type three-level systems is investigated. It is found that enhanced Kerr nonlinearity can be obtained via quantum interference of incoherent pump field. It is also demonstrated that the enhanced Kerr nonlinearity is located in the reduced-absorption region. The enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity is attributed mainly to the presence of extra atomic coherence induced by quantum interference from incoherent pump field. 相似文献

In this paper the propagation of elegant Hermite-cosh-Gaussian, elegant Laguerre Gaussian, and Bessel Gaussian beams through a Kerr left-handed metamaterial(LHM) slab have been studied. A split-step Fourier method is used to investigate the propagation of laser beams through this media. Numerical simulation shows that Gaussian beams have different focusing behaviors in a Kerr LHM slab with positive or negative nonlinearity. Beam focusing happens in slabs with positive nonlinearity and not in slabs with negative nonlinearity; however, negative nonlinearity is required for a Kerr LHM slab to act like a lens. Additionally, the focusing properties of beams can be controlled by controlling the thickness of the slab or the input power of the incident beam. A multilayer structure is also proposed to have beam focusing by thinner slabs and passing longer distances. 相似文献

A theoretical investigation is carried out into the effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on Kerr nonlinearity of a four-level N-type system. It’s found that the Kerr nonlinearity can be obviously enhanced with SGC present. We attribute the enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity mainly to the generation of extra coherences induced by the superposition of the two SGC channels, and when the superposition is controlled by the interference between two SGC channels properly, the maximal Kerr nonlinearity does not only enter the electromagnetically induced transparency window as the spontaneous generated coherences intensify, but also gets enhanced about 10 times with very large SGC coefficients than that with no SGC effect. 相似文献

We study the nonlinear optical response of a five-level atomic system in the regimes of electromagnetically induced transparency and coherent Raman gain, corresponding to two different schemes of light-atom interaction. Our analytical and numerical results show that greatly enhanced Kerr nonlinearity and efficient cross phase modulation may be achieved between a weak probe field and a weak signal field. The cross phase modulation via Kerr nonlinearity is then exploited toward the realization of a polarization quantum phase gate and the generation of a three-photon GHZ state. 相似文献

A theoretical scheme for enhanced Kerr nonlinearity is proposed in a four-level ladder-type atomic system based on double dark resonances (DDRs). We solve the relevant density matrix equations in steady state and utilize the perturbation theory to obtain the analytical expressions for the third order susceptibility of the atomic system. The influence of system parameters on behavior of the first and third order susceptibilities is then discussed. In particular, it is found that an enhanced Kerr nonlinearity with reduced linear and nonlinear absorption is obtained around zero probe detuning under the slow light condition through proper adjusting the laser field intensity and frequency detuning of driving fields. The dressed state analysis is employed to explain the physical origin of the obtained result. The obtained results may be important for all-optical signal processing and quantum information technology. 相似文献

A four-level N-type atomic medium is considered to study the effect of spontaneous generated coherence(SGC) and Kerr nonlinearity on light pulse propagation. A light pulse is propagating inside the medium where each atom follows four-level N-type atom-field configuration of rubidium(85Rb) atom. The atom-field interaction leads to electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) process. The atom-field interaction is accompanied by normal dispersion and in the presence of SGC and Kerr nonlinearity the dispersion property of the proposed atomic medium is modified,which leads to enhancement of positive group index of the medium. The enhancement of positive group index then leads to slow group velocity inside the medium. A more slow group velocity is also investigated by incorporated the collective effect of SGC and Kerr nonlinearity. The control of group velocity inside a four-level N-type atomic medium via collective effect of SGC and Kerr nonlinearity is the major part of this work. 相似文献
