Symmetric collisions of two discrete breathers in the lattice with saturable nonlinearity are investigated. The strong correlation of the collision properties and the parameters of colliding breathers (power, velocity, and phase difference), lattice parameters and position of the collision point is found. This is related to the internal structure of the colliding breathers and energy exchange with the phonon background. The type of collision changes from elastic to the inelastic (the breathers merging, multi-bounce interactions, breather creation etc.) with the increasing of the colliding breather power. Collision of high power breathers always results in the breather fusion. The elastic and inelastic collisions are related to the periodic and quasi-periodic colliding breathers, respectively.  相似文献

We investigate the collisions of moving breathers, with the same frequency, in three different Klein-Gordon chains of oscillators. The on-site potentials are: the asymmetric and soft Morse potential, the symmetric and soft sine-Gordon potential and the symmetric and hard φ4 potential. The simulation of a collision begins generating two identical moving breathers traveling with opposite velocities, they are obtained after perturbing two identical stationary breathers which centers are separated by a fixed number of particles. If this number is odd we obtain an on-site collision, but if this number is even we obtain an inter-site collision. Apart from this distinction, we have considered symmetric collisions, if the colliding moving breathers are vibrating in phase, and anti-symmetric collisions, if the colliding moving breathers are vibrating in anti-phase. The simulations show that the collision properties of the three chains are different. The main observed phenomena are: breather generation with trapping, with the appearance of two new moving breathers with opposite velocities, and a stationary breather trapped at the collision region; breather generation without trapping, with the appearance of new moving breathers with opposite velocities; breather trapping at the collision region, without the appearance of new moving breathers; and breather reflection. For each Klein-Gordon chain, the collision outcomes depend on the lattice parameters, the frequency of the perturbed stationary breathers, the internal structure of the moving breathers and the number of particles that initially separates the stationary breathers when they are perturbed.  相似文献

We study the collisions of moving breathers with the same frequency, traveling with opposite directions within a Klein-Gordon chain of oscillators. Two types of collisions have been analyzed: symmetric and non-symmetric, head-on collisions. For low enough frequency the outcome is strongly dependent of the dynamical states of the two colliding breathers just before the collision. For symmetric collisions, several results can be observed: breather generation, with the formation of a trapped breather and two new moving breathers; breather reflection; generation of two new moving breathers; and breather fusion bringing about a trapped breather. For non-symmetric collisions some possible results are: breather generation, with the formation of three new moving breathers; breather fusion, originating a new moving breather; breather trapping with breather reflection; generation of two new moving breathers; and two new moving breathers traveling as a bound state. Breather annihilation has never been observed.  相似文献

A theory of an optical vector breather of self-induced transparency of surface plasmon polaritons is constructed. The nonlinear surface TM-modes propagating along the interface separating an isotropic medium and anisotropic left-handed material are investigated. A transition layer sandwiched between the connected media is described using a model of a two-dimensional gas of semiconductor quantum dots. Explicit analytical expressions for the shape and parameters of the surface vector breathers are obtained as well as simulations of the space-time dynamics of two-dimensional vector breathers presented with realistic parameters which can be reached in current experiments. It is shown that properties of a surface vector breather with phase modulation depends on the parameters of the quantum dots, the connected media and the transverse structure of the surface wave.  相似文献

We have numerically calculated chaotic waves of the focusing nonlinear Schrr?odinger equation (NLSE), starting with a plane wave modulated by relatively weak random waves. We show that the peaks with highest amplitude of the resulting wave composition (rogue waves) can be described in terms of exact solutions of the NLSE in the form of the collision of Akhmediev breathers.  相似文献

Under investigation in this paper are the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger Maxwell–Bloch (INLS-MB) equations which model the propagation of optical waves in an inhomogeneous nonlinear light guide doped with two-level resonant atoms. Higher-order nonautonomous breather as well as rogue wave solutions in terms of the determinants for the INLS-MB equations are presented via the nn-fold variable-coefficient modified Darboux transformation. The interactions among two nonautonomous breathers are graphically discussed, including the fundamental breather, bound breather, two-breather compression and two-breather evolution, etc. Moreover, several patterns of the higher-order rogue waves are also exhibited, such as the square rogue wave, two- and three-order periodic rogue waves, periodic fission and fusion, two-order stationary rogue waves, and recurrence of the two-order rogue waves. The character of the trajectory of the two-order periodic rogue wave is analyzed. Additionally, a novel type of interaction, namely, the collision between the breather and long-lived rogue waves, is found to be elastic. Our results could be useful for controlling the nonautonomous optical breathers and rogue waves in the inhomogeneous erbium doped fiber.  相似文献

Nonlinear classical Hamiltonian lattices exhibit generic solutions in the form of discrete breathers. These solutions are time-periodic and (typically exponentially) localized in space. The lattices exhibit discrete translational symmetry. Discrete breathers are not confined to certain lattice dimensions. Necessary ingredients for their occurrence are the existence of upper bounds on the phonon spectrum (of small fluctuations around the groundstate) of the system as well as the nonlinearity in the differential equations. We will present existence proofs, formulate necessary existence conditions, and discuss structural stability of discrete breathers. The following results will be also discussed: the creation of breathers through tangent bifurcation of band edge plane waves; dynamical stability; details of the spatial decay; numerical methods of obtaining breathers; interaction of breathers with phonons and electrons; movability; influence of the lattice dimension on discrete breather properties; quantum lattices — quantum breathers. Finally we will formulate a new conceptual approach capable of predicting whether discrete breathers exist for a given system or not, without actually solving for the breather. We discuss potential applications in lattice dynamics of solids (especially molecular crystals), selective bond excitations in large molecules, dynamical properties of coupled arrays of Josephson junctions, and localization of electromagnetic waves in photonic crystals with nonlinear response.  相似文献

Based on a special transformation that we introduce, the N-soliton solution of the (2+1)-dimensional Boiti-Leon-Manna-Pempinelli equation is constructed. By applying the long wave limit and restricting certain conjugation conditions to the related solitons, some novel localized wave solutions are obtained, which contain higher-order breathers and lumps as well as their interactions. In particular, by choosing appropriate parameters involved in the N-solitons, two interaction solutions mixed by a bell-shaped soliton and one breather or by a bell-shaped soliton and one lump are constructed from the 3-soliton solution. Five solutions including two breathers, two lumps, and interaction solutions between one breather and two bell-shaped solitons, one breather and one lump, or one lump and two bell-shaped solitons are constructed from the 4-soliton solution. Five interaction solutions mixed by one breather/lump and three bell-shaped solitons, two breathers/lumps and a bell-shaped soliton, as well as mixing with one lump, one breather and a bell-shaped soliton are constructed from the 5-soliton solution. To study the behaviors that the obtained interaction solutions may have, we present some illustrative numerical simulations, which demonstrate that the choice of the parameters has a great impacts on the types of the solutions and their propagation properties. The method proposed can be effectively used to construct localized interaction solutions of many nonlinear evolution equations. The results obtained may help related experts to understand and study the interaction phenomena of nonlinear localized waves during propagations.  相似文献

We present a theoretical study of linear wave scattering in one-dimensional nonlinear lattices by intrinsic spatially localized dynamic excitations or discrete breathers. These states appear in various nonlinear systems and present a time-periodic localized scattering potential for plane waves. We consider the case of elastic one-channel scattering, when the frequencies of incoming and transmitted waves coincide, but the breather provides with additional spatially localized ac channels whose presence may lead to various interference patterns. The dependence of the transmission coefficient on the wave number q and the breather frequency Omega(b) is studied for different types of breathers: acoustic and optical breathers, and rotobreathers. We identify several typical scattering setups where the internal time dependence of the breather is of crucial importance for the observed transmission properties.  相似文献

In the dissipative, driven standard Frenkel-Kontorova model propagating breathers exist as attractors of the dynamics. In collisions, these excitations interact through the phonons they emit. A possible result of a two-breather collision is a bound state of two breathers. After looking at phonons and breather collisions, we present phenomenological results on breather bound states obtained from lattice dynamics simulations. In particular, we find that bound states can be characterised by the distance between the two breathers they comprise and their propagation velocity. Contrary to the single breather case, several values of the propagation velocity are easily accessible to bound states at fixed model parameters. The results are interpreted on the basis of the observed phonon spectra. The latter can easily be explained as Doppler-shifted combination frequencies of breather harmonics and a discreteness-induced perturbation frequency.Received: 18 December 2003, Published online: 15 March 2004PACS: 63.20.Ry Anharmonic lattice modes - 63.20.Pw Localized modes  相似文献

Exact breather solutions are constructed in piecewise linear (PWL) versions of the discrete nonlinear Schrodinger and Klein-Gordon equations. These solutions correspond to intersections of stable and unstable manifolds of relevant fixed points in associated 2D mappings, an exact construction of which is possible due to the PWL nature of the models. Such exact solutions give us insight into several aspects of breather properties. The problem of dynamical stability of the breathers is mentioned as an instance, detailed results on which will be presented in a future paper.  相似文献

We study the interaction between breather and N-order rogue waves in a nonlinear optical fiber. The impacts of the relative phase and the interaction distance between breathers and rogue waves are discussed in detail.Specifically, the breather can reduce the maximum hump value of high-order rogue waves greatly in the cases of nonzero relative phase or nonzero interaction distance. The characteristic of exclusion between breathers and rogue waves is described qualitatively in the situation of different interaction distances, which can be used to change the temporal-spatial distribution of rogue waves.Their interaction properties are characterized by the trajectory of localized waves' valleys and humps. It is shown that the interaction changes the dynamical evolution trajectory of rogue waves and breathers. These results provide some possible ways to control high-order rogue waves.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of the discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger lattice initialized such that a very long transitory period of time in which standard Boltzmann statistics is insufficient is reached. Our study of the nonlinear system locked in this non-Gibbsian state focuses on the dynamics of discrete breathers (also called intrinsic localized modes). It is found that part of the energy spontaneously condenses into several discrete breathers. Although these discrete breathers are extremely long lived, their total number is found to decrease as the evolution progresses. Even though the total number of discrete breathers decreases we report the surprising observation that the energy content in the discrete breather population increases. We interpret these observations in the perspective of discrete breather creation and annihilation and find that the death of a discrete breather cause effective energy transfer to a spatially nearby discrete breather. It is found that the concepts of a multi-frequency discrete breather and of internal modes is crucial for this process. Finally, we find that the existence of a discrete breather tends to soften the lattice in its immediate neighborhood, resulting in high amplitude thermal fluctuation close to an existing discrete breather. This in turn nucleates discrete breather creation close to a already existing discrete breather. Received 21 January 1999 and Received in final form 20 September 1999  相似文献

By the use of an auxiliary equation, we find bright and dark optical soliton and other soliton solutions for the higher-order nonlinear Schr(o)dinger equation (NLSE) with fourth-order dispersion (FOD), cubic-quintic terms, self-steepening, and nonlinear dispersive terms. Moreover, we give the formation condition of the bright and dark solitons for this higher-order NLSE.  相似文献

The dynamics of different kinds of discrete breathers in three types of one-dimensional monatomic chains with on-site and inter-site potentials are investigated. The existence and evolution of symmetric breather, antisymmetric breather, and multibreather in one-dimensional models are proved by using rotating wave approximation, local anharmonic approximation, and the numerical method. The linear stability of these breathers is investigated by using Lyapunov stable analysis. The localization and stability of breathers in three types of models correlate closely to the system nonlinear parameter β.  相似文献

We consider the evolution of an initial disturbance described by the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation with a positive coefficient of the cubic nonlinear term, so that it can support solitons. Our primary aim is to determine the circumstances which can lead to the formation of solitons and/or breathers. We use the associated scattering problem and determine the discrete spectrum, where real eigenvalues describe solitons and complex eigenvalues describe breathers. For analytical convenience we consider various piecewise-constant initial conditions. We show how complex eigenvalues may be generated by bifurcation from either the real axis, or the imaginary axis; in the former case the bifurcation occurs as the unfolding of a double real eigenvalue. A bifurcation from the real axis describes the transition of a soliton pair with opposite polarities into a breather, while the bifurcation from the imaginary axis describes the generation of a breather from the continuous spectrum. Within the class of initial conditions we consider, a disturbance of one polarity, either positive or negative, will only generate solitons, and the number of solitons depends on the total mass. On the other hand, an initial disturbance with both polarities and very small mass will favor the generation of breathers, and the number of breathers then depends on the total energy. Direct numerical simulations of the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation confirms the analytical results, and show in detail the formation of solitons, breathers, and quasistationary coupled soliton pairs. Being based on spectral theory, our analytical results apply to the entire hierarchy of evolution equations connected with the same eigenvalue problem. We investigate the properties of modulational instability and discrete breathers in the cubic-quintic discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We analyze the regions of modulational instabilities of nonlinear plane waves. Using the Page approach [J.B. Page, Phys. Rev. B 41 (1990) 7835], we derive the conditions for the existence and stability for bright discrete breather solutions. It is shown that the quintic nonlinearity brings qualitatively new conditions for stability of strongly localized modes. The application to the existence of localized modes in the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with three-body interactions in an optical lattice is discussed. The numerical simulations agree with the analytical predictions.  相似文献

We present analytical and numerical studies of phase-coherent dynamics of intrinsically localized excitations (breathers) in a system of two weakly coupled nonlinear oscillator chains. We show that there are two qualitatively different dynamical regimes of the coupled breathers, either immovable or slowly moving: the periodic wandering of the low-amplitude breather between the chains, and the one-chain-localization of the high-amplitude breather. These two modes of coupled breathers can be mapped exactly onto two solutions of a pendulum equation, detached by a separatrix mode. We also show that these two regimes of the coupled breathers are similar, and are described by a similar pair of equations, to the two regimes in the nonlinear tunneling dynamics of two weakly coupled Bose-Einstein condensates. On the basis of this analogy, we predict a new tunneling mode of two weakly coupled Bose-Einstein condensates in which their relative phase oscillates around π/2 modulo π.  相似文献

A variational technique to deal with nonlinear dissipative pulse propagation is established. By means of a generalization of the Kantorovitch method, suitable for non-conservative systems, we are able to cope with an extended nonlinear Schr?dinger equation (NLSE) which describes pulse propagation under the influence of nonlinear loss and/or gain, in particular, in the presence of two-photon absorption (TPA). Based on the characteristics of the exact solution of the NLSE in the absence of TPA, we investigate the effects of frequency dispersion of the nonlinear susceptibility associated to the two-photon resonance, obtaining the necessary conditions for a solitary wave solution, even in the presence of a self-steepening term.
