An experiment was carried out in a low-speed wind tunnel to study the turbulence structure of the boundary layer over a two-dimensional square cavity on a flat plate. The main purpose of this investigation is to examine the way a square cavity modifies the near-wall structure of the turbulent boundary layer leading to a possible drag reduction overd-type roughness. The experimental results on pressure coefficient and friction coefficient indicated a small reduction in total drag in this configuration. This seems to be due to the stable vortex flow observed within the cavity which absorbs and reorganizes the incoming turbulence in the cavity, thereby modifying the near-wall turbulence structure of the boundary layer. The resultant turbulence structure was very similar to that over drag-reducing riblets surface.  相似文献

The structure of turbulence in a drag-reduced flat-plate boundary layer flow has been studied with particle image velocimetry (PIV). Drag reduction was achieved by injection of a concentrated polymer solution through a spanwise slot along the test wall at a location upstream of the PIV measurement station. Planes of velocity were measured parallel to the wall (xz plane), for a total of 30 planes across the thickness of the boundary layer. For increasing drag reduction, we found a significant modification of the near-wall structure of turbulence with a coarsening of the low-speed velocity streaks and a reduction in the number and strength of near-wall vortical structures.  相似文献

本文以镶嵌在平板上沿展向对放的两个压电陶瓷振子为主动控制激励器,自主设计了零质量射流主动控制湍流边界层减阻实验方案.在风洞中开展了双压电振子同步和异步振动主动控制湍流边界层减阻的实验研究,实现了压电振子的周期扰动对湍流边界层多尺度相干结构的干扰和调制,施加控制后减小了壁面摩擦阻力,获得减阻效果.当异步控制100 V, 160 Hz工况时得到最大减阻率为18.54%.小波多尺度分析结果表明,施加控制工况中PZT振子的周期性扰动使得小尺度结构的湍流脉动强度增强,改变了近壁区大尺度和小尺度结构的含能分布,且异步控制工况比同步控制工况的减阻效果好.当双振子振动频率为160 Hz时,流向脉动速度的小波系数PDF曲线呈现出波动特征,尾部变宽显著,近壁湍流脉动更加有序和规则,湍流间歇性减弱.对小尺度脉动进行条件相位平均的结果表明,施加PZT周期扰动后使得大尺度结构破碎成为小尺度结构,小尺度脉动强度增强,实现减阻.随着流向位置离PZT振子越来越远,周期性扰动对相干结构的调制作用逐渐减弱.  相似文献

Particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements and planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) visualizations have been made in a turbulent boundary layer over a rough wall. The wall roughness consisted of square bars placed transversely to the flow at a pitch to height ratio of λ/k = 11 for the PLIF experiments and λ/k = 8 and 16 for the PIV measurements. The ratio between the boundary layer thickness and the roughness height k/δ was about 20 for the PLIF and 38 for the PIV. Both the PLIF and PIV data showed that the near-wall region of the flow was populated by unstable quasi-coherent structures which could be associated to shear layers originating at the trailing edge of the roughness elements. The streamwise mean velocity profile presented a downward shift which varied marginally between the two cases of λ/k, in agreement with previous measurements and DNS results. The data indicated that the Reynolds stresses normalized by the wall units are higher for the case λ/k = 16 than those for λ/k = 8 in the outer region of the flow, suggesting that the roughness density effects could be felt well beyond the near-wall region of the flow. As expected the roughness disturbed dramatically the sublayer which in turn altered the turbulence production mechanism. The turbulence production is maximum at a distance of about 0.5k above the roughness elements. When normalized by the wall units, the turbulence production is found to be smaller than that of a smooth wall. It is argued that the production of turbulence is correlated with the form drag.  相似文献

While large-scale motions are most energetic in the logarithmic region of a high-Reynolds-number turbulent boundary layer, they also have an influence in the inner-region. In this paper we describe an experimental investigation of manipulating the large-scale motions and reveal how this affects the turbulence and skin-friction drag. A boundary layer with a friction Reynolds number of 14 400 is controlled using a spanwise array of nine wall-normal jets operated in an on/off mode and with an exit velocity that causes the jets in cross-flow to penetrate within the log-region. Each jet is triggered in real-time with an active controller, driven by a time-resolved footprint of the large-scale motions acquired upstream. Nominally, the controller injects air into large-scale zones with positive streamwise velocity fluctuations; these zones are associated with positive wall-shear stress fluctuations. This control scheme reduced the streamwise turbulence intensity in the log-region up to a downstream distance of more than five times the boundary layer thickness, δ, from the point of actuation. The highest reduction in spectral energy—more than 30%—was found for wavelengths larger than 5δ in the log-region at 1.7δ downstream of actuation, while scales larger than 2δ still comprised more than 15% energy reduction in the near-wall region. In addition, a 3.2% reduction in mean skin-friction drag was achieved at 1.7δ downstream of actuation. Our reductions of the streamwise turbulence intensity and mean skin-friction drag exceed a base line control-case, for which the jet actuators were operated with the same temporal pattern, but not synchronised with the incoming large-scale zones of positive fluctuating velocity.  相似文献

Turbulence in rough-wall boundary layers: universality issues   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Wind tunnel measurements of turbulent boundary layers over three-dimensional rough surfaces have been carried out to determine the critical roughness height beyond which the roughness affects the turbulence characteristics of the entire boundary layer. Experiments were performed on three types of surfaces, consisting of an urban type surface with square random height elements, a diamond-pattern wire mesh and a sand-paper type grit. The measurements were carried out over a momentum thickness Reynolds number (Re θ) range of 1,300–28,000 using two-component Laser Doppler anemometry (LDA) and hot-wire anemometry (HWA). A wide range of the ratio of roughness element height h to boundary layer thickness δ was covered (0.04 £ h/d £ 0.400.04 \leq h/\delta \leq 0.40). The results confirm that the mean profiles for all the surfaces collapse well in velocity defect form up to surprisingly large values of h/δ, perhaps as large as 0.2, but with a somewhat larger outer layer wake strength than for smooth-wall flows, as previously found. At lower h/δ, at least up to 0.15, the Reynolds stresses for all surfaces show good agreement throughout the boundary layer, collapsing with smooth-wall results outside the near-wall region. With increasing h/δ, however, the turbulence above the near-wall region is gradually modified until the entire flow is affected. Quadrant analysis confirms that changes in the rough-wall boundary layers certainly exist but are confined to the near-wall region at low h/δ; for h/δ beyond about 0.2 the quadrant events show that the structural changes extend throughout much of the boundary layer. Taken together, the data suggest that above h/δ ≈ 0.15, the details of the roughness have a weak effect on how quickly (with rising h/δ) the turbulence structure in the outer flow ceases to conform to the classical boundary layer behaviour. The present results provide support for Townsend’s wall similarity hypothesis at low h/δ and also suggest that a single critical roughness height beyond which it fails does not exist. For fully rough flows, the data also confirm that mean flow and turbulence quantities are essentially independent of Re θ; all the Reynolds stresses match those of smooth-wall flows at very high Re θ. Nonetheless, there is a noticeable increase in stress contributions from strong sweep events in the near-wall region, even at quite low h/δ.  相似文献

对高雷诺数下带控制片的方体(在方柱之前放置一小尺度的柱形薄片)非定常绕流进行了数值模拟。数值模拟方法采用RNG重整化群紊流模型,SIMPLE算法,在非定常计算中引入双重时间步方法,将方体和控制片区域作为求解域的一部分作整体求解。结果表明,控制片与方柱之间距离的不同,使得控制片所形成的涡被抑止或产生卡门涡街,从而对柱体侧面边界层的分离发生影响,产生三种典型的流态,柱体时均阻力系数相对于无控制片的情况迅速减小,当控制片偏离柱体轴心时,柱体升力系数迅速增大,偏心至柱体外壁面附近达到极大值。阻力系数达到最小值后将产生跳跃式的增大,而升力系数在达到最大值后也将产生跳跃式的减小。  相似文献

The effects of a trapped vortex cell (TVC) on the aerodynamic performance of a NACA0024 wing model were investigated experimentally at Re = 106 and 6.67×1056.67\times 10^{5}. The static pressure distributions around the model and the wake velocity profiles were measured to obtain lift and drag coefficients, for both the clean airfoil and the controlled configurations. Suction was applied in the cavity region to stabilize the trapped vortex. For comparison, a classical boundary layer suction configuration was also tested. The drag coefficient curve of the TVC-controlled airfoil showed sharp discontinuities and bifurcative behavior, generating two drag modes. A strong influence of the angle of attack, the suction rate and the Reynolds number on the drag coefficient was observed. With respect to the clean airfoil, the control led to a drag reduction only if the suction was high enough. Compared to the classical boundary layer suction configuration, the drag reduction was higher for the same amount of suction only in a specific range of incidence, i.e., α = −2° to α = 6° and only for the higher Reynolds number. For all the other conditions, the classical boundary layer suction configuration gave better drag performances. Moderate increments of lift were observed for the TVC-controlled airfoil at low incidence, while a 20% lift enhancement was observed in the stall region with respect to the baseline. However, the same lift increments were also observed for the classical boundary layer suction configuration. Pressure fluctuation measurements in the cavity region suggested a very complex interaction of several flow features. The two drag modes were characterized by typical unsteady phenomena observed in rectangular cavity flows, namely the shear layer mode and the wake mode.  相似文献

通过在平板壁面施加不同频率振幅的压电陶瓷振子周期性扰动,进行了湍流边界层主动控制减阻的实验研究.在压电陶瓷振子最大减阻工况下(80 V和160Hz),使用单丝边界层探针对压电振子自由端下游2mm处进行测量,得到不同法向位置流向速度信号的时间序列.通过对比施加控制前后的多尺度分析,发现压电振子产生的扰动只对近壁区产生影响,使得近壁区大尺度脉动降低,小尺度脉动强度增大,而对边界层的外区则基本没有影响.进一步对大尺度和小尺度的脉动信号进行条件平均,发现压电振子产生的扰动对小尺度脉动的影响在时间相位上并不均匀,小尺度脉动强度在大尺度脉动为正时比在大尺度脉动为负时具有更明显的增加.这表明壁面周期扰动主要通过使大尺度高速扫掠流体破碎为小尺度结构,来影响相应的高壁面摩擦事件,从而达到减阻效果.   相似文献

The modification of the near-wall structure is very important for the control of wall turbulence. To ascertain the effect of near-wall modulation on the viscoelastic drag-reduced flow, the modified characteristics of a surfactant solution channel flow were investigated experimentally. The modulation was conducted on the boundary of the channel flow by injecting water from the whole surface of one side of the channel wall. The diffusion process of the injected water was observed by using the planar laser-induced fluorescence technique. The velocity statistics and characteristic structure including the spatial distributions of instantaneous streamwise velocity, swirling strength, and Reynolds shear stress were analyzed based on the velocity vectors acquired in the streamwise wall-normal plane by using the particle imaging velocimetry technique. The results indicated that the disturbance of the injected water was constricted within a finite range very near the dosing wall, and the Reynolds shear stress was increased in this region. However, the eventual drag reduction rate was found to be increased due to a relatively large decrement of viscoelastic shear stress in this near-wall region. Moreover, the flow structure under this modulation presented obvious regional characteristics. In the unstable disturbed region, the mixing of high-speed and low-speed fluids and the motions of ejection and sweep occurred actively. Many clockwise vortex cores were also found to be generated. This characteristic structure was similar to that in the ordinary turbulence of Newtonian fluid. Nevertheless, outside this disturbed region, the structure still maintained the characteristics of the drag-reduced flow with non-Newtonian viscoelastic additives. These results proved that the injected Newtonian fluid associated with the modified stress distribution creates a diverse characteristic structure and subsequent enhanced drag reduction. This investigation can provide the experimental basis for further study of turbulence control.  相似文献

The introduction of spanwise velocity is a promising technique to effect the near-wall turbulent flow field to influence friction drag. However, the essential physical mechanism which significantly reduces friction drag has not been understood, yet. It is the objective of this numerical study to improve the fundamental knowledge on the drag reduction mechanism. The investigation is based on spanwise traveling transversal surface waves which are applied to modify the near-wall flow field and to influence friction drag. Two actuation configurations are analyzed in detail. Compared with an unactuated flat plate boundary layer simulation the first wave setup, which represents a low frequency wave at an amplitude larger than the viscous sublayer, leads to a reduced wall-shear stress resulting in friction drag reduction of up to 9%. The second wave setup, which possesses a higher frequency and an amplitude in the range of the viscous sublayer, yields an increase of friction drag of about 8%. Unlike previous investigations which focus on excitation setups to lower friction drag, the comparison of the two wave setups in this study allows to identify the effects which on the one hand, lead to drag reduction and on the other hand, result in drag increase. That is, due to the pronounced differences the major effects determining the friction distribution are more evident. The two key features for drag reduction are the damping of the wall-normal vorticity fluctuations above the entire surface and the decrease of turbulence production. Furthermore, the effect of rearranging streamwise vorticity, which has been stated to be responsible for drag reduction, is found to occur at increasing and decreasing drag, i.e., it is not the effect that lowers the friction drag.  相似文献

Numerical data of polymer drag reduced flows is interpreted in terms of modification of near-wall coherent structures. The originality of the method is based on numerical experiments in which boundary conditions or the governing equations are modified in a controlled manner to isolate certain features of the interaction between polymers and turbulence. As a result, polymers are shown to reduce drag by damping near-wall vortices and sustain turbulence by injecting energy onto the streamwise velocity component in the very near-wall region.  相似文献

When concentrated polymer solutions are injected into the core-region of a turbulent pipe or channel flow, the injected polymer solution forms a thread which preserves its identity far beyond the injection point. The resulting drag reduction is called heterogeneous drag reduction.This study presents experimental results on the mechanism of this type of drag reduction. The experiments were carried out to find out whether this drag reduction is caused by small amounts of polymer removed from the thread and dissolved in the near-wall region of the flow or by an interaction of the polymer thread with the turbulence. The friction behavior of this type of drag reduction was measured for different concentrations in pipes of different cross-sections, but of identical hydraulic diameter. The parameters of the injection, i.e. injector geometry as well as the ratio of the injection to the bulk velocity, were varied. In one set of experiments the polymer thread was sucked out through an orifice and the friction behavior in the pipe was determined downstream of the orifice. In another experiment, near-wall fluid was led into a bypass in order to measure its drag reducing properties. An experiment was carried out in a low-speed wind tunnel to study the near-wall turbulence structure over a heated riblets surface. The results confirmed the main conclusion of previous study that riblets can enhance the convective heat-transfer rate by as much as 35 percent even within the drag- reducing region. The logarithmic profile of the mean temperature was shifted downwards, indicating that viscous-sublayer thickness of the thermal boundary layer was reduced over a riblets surface. The reason for the apparent breakdown of the Reynolds analogy seems to be related to the difference in the turbulence length scale between the thermal and momentum boundary layers in the near-wall region.  相似文献

利用安装在壁面上的单个压电振子周期振荡,采用开环主动控制方案,实现了对平板湍流边界层相干结构猝发的主动控制和壁湍流减阻.根据不同的输入电压幅值和频率,完成了10种工况的实验.在压电振子下游2mm处,用热线风速仪和迷你热线单丝探针,精细测量湍流边界层不同法向位置瞬时流向速度信号的时间序列,分析了在Re?=2183压电振子振动对湍流边界层平均速度剖面、减阻率和相干结构猝发过程的影响.实验结果表明,施加控制的工况使平均速度剖面对数律层上移,产生减阻效果;压电振子振幅越大,减阻率越高,减阻效果越明显;通过对施加控制前后流向瞬时速度的多尺度湍涡结构脉动动能的尺度分析,当压电振子振动频率与壁湍流能量最大尺度的猝发频率相近时,减阻率达到最大,为25%,说明控制壁湍流能量最大尺度相干结构的猝发是实现壁湍流减阻的关键;通过对比相干结构猝发的流向速度分量条件相位平均波形,发现施加控制的工况中相干结构猝发流向速度分量的波形幅值明显降低,且流向速度在扫掠后期高速阶段迅速衰减,缩短了高速流体的下扫过程,说明压电振子的振动能抑制相干结构的高速流体下扫过程,减弱高速流体与壁面的强烈剪切过程,并使近壁区域相干结构的振幅显著减弱,迁移速度加快,从而减小壁面摩擦阻力.   相似文献

Numerical simulations and experimental research are both carried out to investigate the controlled effect of spanwise oscillating Lorentz force on a turbulent channel flow. The variations of the streaks and the skin friction drag are obtained through the PIV system and the drag measurement system, respectively. The flow field in the near-wall region is shown through direct numerical simulations utilizing spectral method. The experimental results are consistent with the numerical simulation results qualitatively, and both the results indicate that the streaks are tilted into the spanwise direction and the drag reduction utilizing spanwise oscillating Lorentz forces can be realized. The numerical simulation results reveal more detail of the drag reduction mechanism which can be explained, since the spanwise vorticity generated from the interaction between the induced Stokes layer and intrinsic turbulent flow in the near-wall region can make the longitudinal vortices tilt and oscillate, and leads to turbulence suppression and drag reduction.  相似文献

The near-wall behavior of turbulence is re-examined in a way different from that proposed by Hanjalic and Launder1 and followers2,3,4,5. It is shown that at a certain distance from the wall, all energetic large eddies will reduce to Kolmogorov eddies (the smallest eddies in turbulence). All the important wall parameters, such as friction velocity, viscous length scale, and mean strain rate at the wall, are characterised by Kolmogorov microscales. According t o this Kolmogorov behavior of near-wall turbulence, the turbulence quantities, such as turbulent kinetic energy, dissipation rate, etc. at the location where the large eddies become “Kolmogorov” eddies, can be estimated by using both direct numerical simulation (DNS) data and asymptotic analysis of near-wall turbulence. This information will provide useful boundary conditions for the turbulent transport equations. As a n example, the concept is incorporated in the standard κ - εmodel which is then applied t o channel and boundary layer flows. Using appropriate boundary conditions (based on Kolmogorov behaviour of near-wall turbulence), there is no need for any wall-modification to the κ - ε equations (including model constants). Results compare very well with the DNS and experimental data.  相似文献

In this paper we report on (two-component) LDV experiments in a fully developed turbulent pipe flow with a drag-reducing polymer (partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide) dissolved in water. The Reynolds number based on the mean velocity, the pipe diameter and the local viscosity at the wall is approximately 10000. We have used polymer solutions with three different concentrations which have been chosen such that maximum drag reduction occurs. The amount of drag reduction found is 60–70%. Our experimental results are compared with results obtained with water and with a very dilute solution which exhibits only a small amount of drag reduction. We have focused on the observation of turbulence statistics (mean velocities and turbulence intensities) and on the various contributions to the total shear stress. The latter consists of a turbulent, a solvent (viscous) and a polymeric part. The polymers are found to contribute significantly to the total stress. With respect to the mean velocity profile we find a thickening of the buffer layer and an increase in the slope of the logarithmic profile. With respect to the turbulence statistics we find for the streamwise velocity fluctuations an increase of the root mean square at low polymer concentration but a return to values comparable to those for water at higher concentrations. The root mean square of the normal velocity fluctuations shows a strong decrease. Also the Reynolds (turbulent) shear stress and the correlation coefficient between the stream wise and the normal components are drastically reduced over the entire pipe diameter. In all cases the Reynolds stress stays definitely non-zero at maximum drag reduction. The consequence of the drop of the Reynolds stress is a large polymer stress, which can be 60% of the total stress. The kinetic-energy balance of the mean flow shows a large transfer of energy directly to the polymers instead of the route by turbulence. The kinetic energy of the turbulence suggests a possibly negative polymeric dissipation of turbulent energy. It is well known that injection/suction (transpiration) through a perforated surface is an efficient way of influencing the characteristics of a turbulent boundary layer. Injection application creates a thicker boundary layer on a flat plate and it thus decreases drag. In aeronautical applications, suction is frequently used to delay boundary layer separation. This paper presents an experimental study on the effects of uniform injection through one perforated surface of a square cylinder on the pressure distribution and drag coefficient in a two-dimensional turbulent flow. For this purpose, surface pressure measurements around a square cylinder have been performed at three different Reynolds numbers in a wind tunnel. The parameters taken into account were injection rate, position of perforated surface (i.e., front, top, and rear), and pressure coefficient and drag coefficient. The results show that variation in pressure coefficient around the square cylinder and drag coefficient were influenced by the position of perforated surface and by injection rate.  相似文献
