Optical absorption spectra of the trigonal crystal of TbFe3(BO3)4 in the vicinity of the 7F65D4 transition in a Tb3+ ion were studied as a function of temperature (2–70 K) and magnetic field strength (0–60 kOe) at 2 K. The splitting of the excited states of Tb3+ due to both the magnetic ordering of iron and an external magnetic field was determined. Abrupt splitting of the absorption lines of Tb3+ at temperature TN of the magnetic ordering of the subsystem of iron was revealed, suggesting that the nature of such splitting is not entirely magnetic.  相似文献

This paper reports on the photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved properties of Ce3+, Eu3+, and Tb3+ in novel LiSr4(BO3)3 powder phosphors. Ce3+ shows an emission band peaking at 420 nm under 350-nm UV excitation. Energy transfer from Ce3+ to Mn2+ takes place in the co-doped samples. Eu3+ shows red emission under near UV excitation. LiSr4(BO3)3:Eu3+ phosphor could be a suitable candidate for phosphor-converted solid state lighting. The luminescence lifetime is 2.13 ms for Eu3+ in LiSr4(BO3)3:0.001Eu3+. As Eu3+ concentration increasing, the decay curves deviate from exponential behavior. Tb3+ shows the strongest 5D47 F5 emission line at 540 nm. Decay curves of 5D47 F5 and 5D37 F5 emission with different Tb3+ concentrations were also measured. Cross-relaxation process is discussed based on the decay curves.  相似文献

Magnetic and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) properties of EuFe3(BO3)4 single crystals have been studied over the temperature range of 300–4.2 K and in a magnetic field up to 5 T. The temperature, field and orientation dependences of susceptibility, magnetization and EPR spectra are presented. An antiferromagnetic ordering of the Fe subsystem occurs at about 37 K. The easy direction of magnetization perpendicular to the c axis is determined by magnetic measurements. Below 10 K, we observe an increase of susceptibility connected with the polarization of the Eu sublattice by an effective exchange field of the ordered Fe magnetic subsystem. In a magnetic field perpendicular to the c axis, we have observed an increase of magnetization at T < 10 K in the applied magnetic field, which can be attributed to the appearance of the magnetic moment induced by the magnetic field applied in the basal plane. According to EPR measurements, the distance between the maximum and minimum of derivative of absorption line of the Lorentz type is equal to 319 Gs. The anisotropy of g-factor and linewidth is due to the influence of crystalline field of trigonal symmetry. The peculiarities of temperature dependence of both intensity and linewidth are caused by the influence of excited states of europium ion (Eu3+). It is supposed that the difference between the g-factors from EPR and the magnetic measurements is caused by exchange interaction between rare earth and Fe subsystems via anomalous Zeeman effect.  相似文献

Single crystals of the Tb0.75Ho0.25Fe3(BO3)4 ferroborate have been grown by the group method from a solution–melt based on bismuth trimolybdate. The magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of the ferroborate single crystals have been investigated in the temperature range from 4.2 to 300 K and in magnetic fields up to 9 T. Magnetically, this material is an antiferromagnet with the Néel temperature T N = 38.8 K and easy-axis anisotropy. The magnitude of the magnetoelectric polarization has been found to be more than 1.5–2.0 times greater than the sum of the polarizations induced by the magnetic field for the ferroborates TbFe3(BO3)4 and HoFe3(BO3)4 taken in the corresponding shares.  相似文献

This paper reports on a study of the luminescence emitted by Li6Gd(BO3)3: Ce3+ crystals under selective photoexcitation to lower excited states of the host ion Gd3+ and impurity ion Ce3+ within the 100–500-K temperature interval, where the mechanisms of migration and relaxation of electronic excitation energy have been shown to undergo noticeable changes. The monotonic 10–15-fold increase in intensity of the luminescence band at 3.97 eV has been explained within a model describing two competing processes, namely, migration of electronic excitation energy over chains of Gd3+ ions and vibrational energy relaxation between the 6 I j and 6 P j levels. It has been shown that radiative transitions in Ce3+ ions from the lower excited state 5d 1 to 2 F 5/2 and 2 F 7/2 levels of the ground state produce two photoluminescence bands, at 2.08 and 2.38 eV (Ce1 center) and 2.88 and 3.13 eV (Ce2 center). Possible models of the Ce1 and Ce2 luminescence centers have been discussed.  相似文献

High-frequency electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of the KPb2Cl5:Tb3+ crystal have been investigated. Three types of spectra were observed in the frequency range of 74–200 GHz. The most intensive spectrum with the resolved hyperfine structure corresponded to transitions between sublevels of the159Tb3+ ground quasi-doublet with the zero-field splitting (ZFS) close to 48 GHz. Experimental results were analyzed by the exchange charge model of the crystal field affecting terbium ions in low-symmetry Pb2+ positions with the chlorine sevenfold coordination and the charge compensating vacancy in the nearest potassium site. The calculated values ofg-factors and ZFS were in agreement with the experimental data. The nature of a broad EPR line with ZFS of about 180 GHz and of additional weak EPR lines observed as satellites of the main Tb3+ lines was discussed.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of an easy-axis trigonal DyFe3(BO3)4 antiferromagnetic crystal have been theoretically studied. On this basis, recent experimental data [1] on the field and temperature dependences of magnetization and the temperature dependence of the initial magnetic susceptibility for three crystallographic directions in this antiferromagnet have been interpreted. The characteristics of the trigonal crystal field for the rare earth ion and the parameters of the Fe-Fe and Fe-Dy exchange interactions are determined. Limitations imposed by features of the magnetic characteristics (anisotropic magnetization in the three crystallographic directions, Schottky-type anomalies in the magnetic susceptibility, etc.) on the possible splitting of the ground-state multiplet in the crystal field and the splitting of the lowest doublet due to the f-d interaction for Dy3+ ions are established.  相似文献

The magnetic and magnetodielectric properties of Ho0.5Nd0.5Fe3(BO3)4 ferroborate with the competing Ho–Fe and Nd–Fe exchange couplings have been experimentally and theoretically investigated. Step anomalies in the magnetization curves at the spin-reorientation transition induced by the magnetic field Bc have been found. The spontaneous spin-reorientation transition temperature TSR ≈ 8 K has been refined. The measured magnetic properties and observed features are interpreted using a single theoretical approach based on the molecular field approximation and calculations within the crystal field model of the rare-earth ion. Interpretation of the experimental data includes determination of the crystal field parameters for Ho3+ and Nd3+ ions in Ho0.5Nd0.5Fe3(BO3)4 and parameters of the Ho–Fe and Nd–Fe exchange couplings.  相似文献

The 90° reorientation of Er3+ spins in ErFeO3 have been directly observed using optical spectroscopy. The peculiarities of the absorption spectrum of ErFeO3 in the region of the 4 I 15/24 F 9/2 transition of the Er3+ ion in the temperature range of ac-spin reorientation have been studied. It is shown that the spin reorientation phase transition (SRPT) is accompanied by splitting of the ground and excited states into Kramers doublets in the iron exchange field. This fact is a direct evidence of purely magnetic origin of SRPT. The experimental results were used to analyze the magnetic properties of ErFeO3. This analysis showed that the order of magnitude of the magnetic moment, its variation in the SRPT region, and the existence of T comp can be interpreted in terms of the single-ion model, taking into account the influence of the crystal field and the molecular field produced by the iron subsystem ions.  相似文献

Results of a complex investigation of the magnetic, magnetoelectric, and magnetoelastic properties of a SmFe3(BO3)4 single crystal are presented. Samarium iron borate is similar to another easy-plane iron borate, NdFe3(BO3)4, in that it possesses a large value of the magnetic-field-induced polarization (about 500 μC/m2), the sign of which changes when the field direction is changed between axes a and b of the crystal. However, the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and the field dependence of polarization and magnetostriction of the two compounds are significantly different, which is explained by the weak effect of external magnetic field on the ground-state multiplet of samarium ion, which is characterized by an extremely small value of its g-factor.  相似文献

The magnetic, magnetoelectric, and magnetoelastic properties of a PrFe3(BO3)4 single crystal and the phase transitions induced in this crystal by the magnetic field are studied both experimentally and theoretically. Unlike the previously investigated ferroborates, this material is characterized by a singlet ground state of the rare-earth ion. It is found that, below T N = 32 K, the magnetic structure of the crystal in the absence of the magnetic field is uniaxial (lc), while, in a strong magnetic field Hc (H cr ~ 43 kOe at T = 4.2 K), a Fe3+ spin reorientation to the basal plane takes place. The reorientation is accompanied by anomalies in magnetization, magnetostriction, and electric polarization. The threshold field values determined in the temperature interval 2–32 K are used to plot an H-T phase diagram. The contribution of the Pr3+ ion ground state to the parameters under study is revealed, and the influence of the praseodymium ion on the magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of praseodymium ferroborate is analyzed.  相似文献

Nanocrystal rods of Eu3+/Tb3+-co-doped ZrO2 were synthesized using a simple chemical precipitation technique. Both ions were successfully doped into the Zr4+ ion site in a mixed structure containing both monoclinic and tetragonal phases. The Eu3+ or Tb3+ singly doped zirconia produced red and green luminescence which are characteristics of Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions, respectively. The co-doped zirconia samples produced blue emission from defect states transitions in the host ZrO2, red and green luminescence from dopant ions giving cool to warm white light emissions. The phosphors were efficiently excited by ultraviolet and near-ultraviolet/blue radiations giving white and red light, respectively. The decay lifetime was found to increase with increasing donor ion concentration contrary to conventional observations reported by previous researchers. Weak quadrupole–quatdrupole multipolar process was responsible for energy transfer from Tb3+ (donor) ion to Eu3+ ion. No energy back-transfer from Eu3+ to Tb3+ ion was observed from the excitation spectra. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence shows the presence of defects at low temperature, but these defects vanished at room temperature and beyond. The Eu3+/Tb3+-co-doped ZrO2 nanocrystal rod is a potential phosphor for white light application using UV as an excitation source. Thermoluminescence measurements show that the inclusion of Tb3+ ion increases trap depths in the host zirconia.  相似文献

The luminescence and thermally stimulated recombination processes in lithium borate crystals Li6Gd(BO3)3 and Li6Gd(BO3)3:Ce have been studied. The steady-state luminescence spectra under X-ray excitation (X-ray luminescence), temperature dependences of the intensity of steady-state X-ray luminescence (XL), and thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) spectra of these compounds have been investigated in the temperature range of 90–500 K. The intrinsic-luminescence 312-nm band, which is due to the 6 P J 8 S 7/2 transitions in Gd3+ matrix ions, dominates in the X-ray luminescence spectra of these crystals; in addition, there is a wide complex band at 400–420 nm, which is due to the d → f transitions in Ce3+ impurity ions. It is found that the steady-state XL intensity in these bands increases several times upon heating from 100 to 400 K. The possible mechanisms of the observed temperature dependence of the steady-state XL intensity and their correlation with the features of electronic-excitation energy transfer in these crystals are discussed. The main complex TSL peak at 110–160 K and a number of minor peaks, whose composition and structure depend on the crystal type, have been found in all crystals studied. The nature of the shallow traps that are responsible for TSL at temperatures below room temperature and their relation with defects in the lithium cation sublattice are discussed.  相似文献

The Ca12Al14O33: Yb3+/Yb2+ single phase nano-phosphor has been synthesized through combustion route and its luminescence and lifetime studies have been carried out up to 20 K using 976 and 266 nm excitations. The samples heated in open atmosphere have shown the presence of Yb in Yb3+ and Yb2+ states. The 976 nm excitation results a cooperative upconversion emission at 486 nm due to the Yb3+ state and a broad band in the blue region and has been assigned to arise from the defect centers. The 266 nm excitation on the other hand results a broad emission band even from as-synthesized phosphor without doping of Yb, the width of which increases in presence of Yb due to the emission from Yb2+ ions formed in heated samples. The white emission covers almost whole visible region with bandwidth 190 nm. The ions in Yb2+ state has been found to increase with the increase in heating temperature up to 1,273 K. A back conversion of Yb2+ to Yb3+ has been observed for higher temperatures. Effect of boric and phosphoric acids as flux on the emission properties of Yb3+ and Yb2+ states have been examined and discussed. Quantum yield of emission has also been determined for different samples.  相似文献

The antiferromagnetic resonance, heat capacity, magnetic properties, and magnetic phase diagram of a GdFe3(BO3)4 crystal in which some of the iron ions were substituted by diamagnetic gallium ions have been investigated. It has been found that the Neél temperature upon diamagnetic substitution decreased to 17 K compared to 38 K in the unsubstituted crystal. The effective exchange and anisotropy fields for GdFe2.1Ga0.9(BO3)4 have been estimated from the field dependences of magnetization and resonance measurements. The magnetic phase diagram of the crystal has been constructed from magnetic and resonance measurements. In GdFe2.1Ga0.9(BO3)4, there is no spontaneous reorientation and, in the absence of a magnetic field, the crystal remains an easy-axis one in the entire domain of magnetic ordering. The critical field of the reorientation transition to an induced easy-plane state in a magnetic field along the trigonal axis has been found to increase compared to that in the unsubstituted crystal.  相似文献

The anisotropic magnetoelectric properties of an ytterbium aluminum borate YbAl (BO single crystal having noncentrosymmetric crystal structure (space group R32) are studied, including the orientational, field, and temperature dependences of the polarization in magnetic fields up to 5 T in the temperature range of 2–300 K. It has been shown experimentally for the first time that the symmetry of the observed magnetoelectric effects exactly corresponds to the trigonal structure of the crystal and is characterized by two quadratic magnetoelectric constants. The polarization in the basal plane P a, b is a quadratic function of the field at low fields and reaches 250–300 μC/m2 in a field of 5 T at a temperature of 2 K, almost an order of magnitude exceeding the previously reported values. A theoretical model based on the spin Hamiltonian of the ground Kramers doublet of Yb3+ ions in the crystal field is proposed including magnetoelectric interactions allowed by the symmetry. This model makes it possible to quantitatively describe all observed magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of YbAl3(BO3)4.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of the Nd0.5Gd0.5Fe3(BO3)4 single crystal have been studied in principal crystallographic directions in magnetic fields to 90 kG in the temperature range 2–300 K; in addition, the heat capacity has been measured in the range 2–300 K. It has been found that, below the Néel temperature T N = 32 K down to 2 K, the single crystal exhibits an easy-plane antiferromagnetic structure. A hysteresis has been detected during magnetization of the crystal in the easy plane in fields of 1.0–3.5 kG, and a singularity has been found in the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility in the easy plane at a temperature of 11 K in fields B < 1 kG. It has been shown that the singularity is due to appearance of the hysteresis. The origin of the magnetic properties of the crystal near the hysteresis has been discussed.  相似文献

The field and temperature dependences of magnetization and the temperature dependences of the initial magnetic susceptibility have been theoretically studied for three crystallographic directions in a trigonal NdFe3(BO3)4 antiferromagnetic crystal. The calculations were performed using a molecular field approximation and a crystal field model for the rare-earth subsystem. The obtained theoretical expressions are applied to the interpretation of recent experimental data [1–4] on the magnetic properties of NdFe3(BO3)4. The results of calculations show a good agreement with experiment. The proposed theory adequately describes (i) anomalies of the Schottky type in the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility, (ii) nonlinear curves of magnetization in the basal plane in a magnetic field up to 1 T (showing evidence of the first-order phase transitions) and their evolution with the temperature, and (iii) the field and temperature dependences of magnetization in a magnetic field up to 9 T.  相似文献

Resonance modes that are due to magnetic excitations in the exchange-coupled subsystems of rare-earth ions (R = Nd3+, Sm3+, and Gd3+) and Fe3+ ions have been detected in submillimeter transmission spectra (0.1–0.6 THz) of RFe3(BO3)4 iron borate-multiferroic single crystals. The strong interaction between spin oscillations of the Fe and R subsystems has been revealed, which determines the behavior of the modes depending on the anisotropy of the exchange splitting of the ground doublet of the R ion. It has been shown that the intensities of coupled modes (contributions to the magnetic permeability) depend strongly on the difference between the g factors of Fe and R ions. This dependence makes it possible to determine the sign of the latter g factor. In particular, a noticeable intensity of exchange Nd modes in NdFe3(BO3)4 is due to an increase in their contribution at g ⊥, ‖Nd < 0, while in GdFe3(BO3)4 with g Gdg Fe ≈ 2, the Fe and Gd contributions compensate each other and the exchange (Gd) mode is not observed. In spite of the weak interaction of Sm ions with the magnetic field, SmFe3(BO3)4 exhibits resonance modes, which are attributed to the excitation of Sm ions through the Fe subsystem.  相似文献

The thermally stimulated recombination processes and luminescence in crystals of the lithium borate family Li6(Y,Gd,Eu)(BO3)3 have been investigated. The steady-state luminescence spectra under X-ray excitation (X-ray luminescence spectra), the temperature dependences of the X-ray luminescence intensity, and the glow curves for the Li6Gd(BO3)3, Li6Eu(BO3)3, Li6Y0.5Gd0.5(BO3)3: Eu, and Li6Gd(BO3)3: Eu compounds have been measured in the temperature range 90–500 K. In the X-ray luminescence spectra, the band at 312 nm corresponding to the 6 P J 8 S 7/2 transitions in the Gd3+ ion and the group of lines at 580–700 nm due to the 5 D 07 F J transitions (J = 0–4) in the Eu3+ ion are dominant. For undoped crystals, the X-ray luminescence intensity of these bands increases by a factor of 15 with a change in the temperature from 100 to 400 K. The possible mechanisms providing the observed temperature dependence of the intensity and their relation to the specific features of energy transfer of electronic excitations in these crystals have been discussed. It has been revealed that the glow curves for all the crystals under investigation exhibit the main complex peak with the maximum at a temperature of 110–160 K and a number of weaker peaks with the composition and structure dependent on the crystal type. The nature of shallow trapping centers responsible for the thermally stimulated luminescence in the range below room temperature and their relation to defects in the lithium cation sublattice have been analyzed.  相似文献
