Ab initio molecular orbital calculations have been carried out to investigate the structure and the stability of noble gas insertion compounds of the type MNgF (M=Cu and Ag, and Ng=Ar, Kr, and Xe) through second order Moller-Plesset perturbation method. All the species are found to have a linear structure with a noble gas-noble metal bond, the distance of which is closer to the respective covalent bond length in comparison with the relevant van der Waals limit. The dissociation energies corresponding to the lowest energy fragmentation products, MF+Ng, have been found to be in the range of -231 to -398 kJ/mol. The respective barrier heights pertinent to the bent transition states (M-Ng-F bending mode) are quite high for the CuXeF and AgXeF species, although for the Ar and Kr containing species the same are rather low. Nevertheless the M-Ng bond length in MNgF compounds reported here is the smallest M-Ng bond ever predicted through any experimental or theoretical investigation, indicating strongest M-Ng interaction. All these species (except AgArF) are found to be metastable in their respective potential energy surface, and the dissociation energies corresponding to the M+Ng+F fragments have been calculated to be 30.1-155.3 kJ/mol. Indeed, in the present work we have demonstrated that the noble metal-noble gas interaction strength in MNgF species (with M=Cu and Ag, and Ng=Kr and Xe) is much stronger than that in NgMF systems. Bader's [Atoms in molecules-A Quantum Theory (Oxford University Press, Oxford, 1990)] topological theory of atoms in molecules (AIM) has been employed to explore the nature of interactions involved in these systems. Geometric as well as energetic considerations along with AIM results suggest a partial covalent nature of M-Ng bonds in these systems. The present results strengthen our earlier work and further support the proposition on the possibility of experimental identification of this new class of insertion compounds of noble gas atoms containing noble gas-noble metal bond.  相似文献

An in silico study is performed on the structure and the stability of noble gas (Ng) bound MO complexes (M = Cu, Ag, Au). To understand the stability of these Ng bound complexes, dissociation energies, dissociation enthalpy, and dissociation free energy change are computed. The stability of NgMO is also compared with that of the experimentally detected NgMX (X= F, Cl, Br). It is found that MO has lower Ng binding ability than that of MX. All the dissociation processes producing Ng and MO are endothermic in nature and for the Kr‐Rn bound MO (M = Cu, Au), and Xe and Rn bound AgO cases, the corresponding dissociation processes are turned out to be endergonic in nature at standard state. The Wiberg bond indices of Ng? M bonds and Ng→M electron transfer gradually increase from Ar to Rn and for the same Ng they follow the order of NgAuO > NgCuO > NgAgO. Energy decomposition analysis shows that the Ng? M bonds in NgMO are partly covalent and partly electrostatic in nature. Electron density analysis further highlights the partial covalent character in Ng? M bonds. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Noble‐gas‐noble‐metal hydroxides NgAuOH (Ng = Kr, Xe) are investigated at the MP2 theoretical level. All species are found to be in Cs symmetry with an approximate linear Ng? Au? O moiety. The noble‐gas‐noble‐metal bond lengths are comparable with covalent limits, and the corresponding binding energies have been computed to be 59.6 and 83.4 kJ/mol for KrAuOH and XeAuOH, respectively. Except the charge‐induced dipole contribution to the binding energies, the remainder could be ascribed to the higher‐order charge‐induction energies, dispersion energies, the contributions of multipole moments on AuOH and covalent effects. The title species are sufficiently chemical bound and are expected to be stable species theoretically. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2008  相似文献

Ab initio calculations have been performed on single‐electron halogen bonds between methyl radical and bromine‐containing molecules to gain a deeper insight into the nature of such noncovalent interactions. Bader's atoms in molecules (AIM) theory have also been applied to the analysis of the linking of the single‐electron halogen bond. Various characteristics of the R? Br…CH3 interaction, i.e., binding energies, geometrical parameters and topological properties of the electron density have been determined. The presence of the bond critical points (BCPs) between the bromine atom and methyl radical and the values of electron density and Laplacian of electron density at these BCPs indicate the closed‐shell interactions in the complexes. The single‐electron halogen bonds, which are significantly weaker than the normal halogen bonds, exhibit equally bond strength as compared to the single‐electron hydrogen bond. It has been also found that plotting of the binding energies versus topological properties of the electron density at the BCPs gives two straight lines. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ab initio and density functional theory‐based calculations are performed to study the structure, stability, and nature of bonding of superhalogen‐supported noble gas (Ng) compounds of the type HNgY where (Ng = Ar‐Rn; Y = BeF3). Here, BeF3 acts as the superhalogen. Calculations show that the HNgBeF3 spontaneously dissociates into product following the dissociation channels: HNgBeF3 → HBeF3 + Ng and HNgBeF3 → Ng + HF + BeF2. The transition states are optimized and the energy barriers are computed to show the metastable behavior of HNgBeF3. HNgBeF3 molecules are kinetically stable with respect to the first dissociation process having energy barriers of 1.0, 5.0, 10.6, and 13.9 kcal/mol for Ar, Kr, Xe, and Rn analogues, respectively, at CCSD(T)/Aug‐cc‐pVTZ level. These calculations suggest that the HXeBeF3 and HRnBeF3 can be shown to be stable up to ∼100 K temperature with a half‐life of ∼102 seconds. The nature of H Ng and two different types of Ng F bonds in HNgBeF3 molecules is explored through the natural bond orbital and electron density analyses. The large Wiberg bond index (WBI) values for the H Ng bond indicate the formation of almost a single bond in between H‐atoms and Ng‐atoms, whereas small WBI values for the two Ng F bonds indicate a noncovalent interaction in between them. The electron density analysis further supports the covalency of the H Ng bond and noncovalent interaction in the two Ng F bonds in HNgBeF3.  相似文献

The R? CH2? HO…H? X (R = SCl, Cl, SH, NO2, OMe, CHO, CN, C2H5, CH3, H; X = F, Cl, Br) complexes are considered here as the interest sample for the consideration of different measures of H‐bond strength. The intermolecular interaction energies are predicted by using MP2/6‐31++G(d,p) and B3LYP/6‐31++G(d,p) methods with basis set superposition error and zero‐point energy corrections. The results showed that intermolecular hydrogen bonds for complexes with HF are stronger than such interactions in complexes with HCl and HBr. Quantum theory of “Atoms in Molecules” and natural bond orbitals method were applied to analyzed H‐bond interactions. The gas phase thermodynamic properties of complexes were predicted using quantum mechanical computations. The obtained results showed a strong influence of the R and X substituents on the thermodynamic properties of complexes. Numerous correlations between topological, geometrical, thermodynamic properties and energetic parameters were also found. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

CH3CN ? HOCH3 and CH3NC ? HOCH3 hydrogen-bonded systems have been studied theoretically by ab initio MO methods using a 4–31 G basis set at their equilibrium geometries. The stabilization energies of these hydrogen bonds are 5.4 and 5.9 kcal/mol, respectively. The nature of these hydrogen bonds is discussed in the light of frontier orbital theory and the topological properties of the charge density of the chemical bond.  相似文献

Quantum chemical calculations at the MP2/aug‐cc‐pVTZ and CCSD(T)/aug‐cc‐pVTZ levels have been carried out for the title compounds. The electronic structures were analyzed with a variety of charge and energy partitioning methods. All molecules possess linear equilibrium structures with D∞h symmetry. The total bond dissociation energies (BDEs) of the strongly bonded halogen anions [XHX]? and [XAuX]? decrease from [FHF]? to [IHI]? and from [FAuF]? to [IAuI]?. The BDEs of the noble gas compounds [NgHNg]+ and [NgAuNg]+ become larger for the heavier atoms. The central hydrogen and gold atoms carry partial positive charges in the cations and even in the anions, except for [IAuI]?, in which case the gold atom has a small negative charge of ?0.03 e. The molecular electrostatic potentials reveal that the regions of the most positive or negative charges may not agree with the partial charges of the atoms, because the spatial distribution of the electronic charge needs to be considered. The bonding analysis with the QTAIM method suggests a significant covalent character for the hydrogen bonds to the noble gas atoms in [NgHNg]+ and to the halogen atoms in [XHX]?. The covalent character of the bonding in the gold systems [NgAuNg]+ and [XAuX]? is smaller than in the hydrogen compound. The energy decomposition analysis suggests that the lighter hydrogen systems possess dative bonds X?→H+←X? or Ng→H+←Ng while the heavier homologues exhibit electron sharing through two‐electron, three‐center bonds. Dative bonds X?→Au+←X? and Ng→Au+←Ng are also diagnosed for the lighter gold systems, but the heavier compounds possess electron‐shared bonds.  相似文献

This Review presents the current status of the noble gas (Ng)-noble metal chemistry, which began in 1977 with the detection of AuNe+ through mass spectroscopy and then grew from 2000 onwards; currently, the field is in a somewhat matured state. On one side, modern quantum chemistry is very effective in providing important insights into the structure, stability, and barrier for the decomposition of Ng compounds and, as a result, a plethora of viable Ng compounds have been predicted. On the other hand. experimental achievement also goes beyond microscopic detection and characterization through spectroscopic techniques and crystal structures at ambient temperature; for example, (AuXe4)2+(Sb2F11)2 have also been obtained. The bonding between two noble elements of the periodic table can even reach the covalent limit. The relativistic effect makes gold a very special candidate to form a strong bond with Ng in comparison to copper and silver. Insertion compounds, which are metastable in nature, depending on their kinetic stability, display an even more fascinating bonding situation. The degree of covalency in Ng–M (M=noble metal) bonds of insertion compounds is far larger than that in non-insertion compounds. In fact, in MNgCN (M=Cu, Ag, Au) molecules, the M−Ng and Ng−C bonds might be represented as classical 2c–2e σ bonds. Therefore, noble metals, particularly gold, provide the opportunity for experimental chemists to obtain sufficiently stable complexes with Ng at room temperature in order to characterize them by using experimental techniques and, with the intriguing bonding situation, to explore them with various computational tools from a theoretical perspective. This field is relatively young and, in the coming years, a lot of advancement is expected experimentally as well as theoretically.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations at the MP2 level of theory disclose the conceivable existence of neutral complexes containing four or five distinct noble gases (Ng) each bound to a distinct Be‐atom. These multicenter polynuclear Ng molecules are formally obtained by replacing the H‐atoms of CH4 and but‐2‐yne with ? NBeNg moieties, which behave as independent monovalent ‘functional groups’. Our investigated complexes include the five homotetranuclear [C(NBeNg)4] complexes 1 – 5 (Ng=He? Xe), the five heterotetranuclear complexes [CN4Be4(He)(Ne)(Ar)(Kr)] ( 6 ), [CN4Be4(He)(Ne)(Ar)(Xe)] ( 7 ), [CN4Be4(He)(Ne)(Kr)(Xe)] ( 8 ), [CN4Be4(He)(Ar)(Kr)(Xe)] ( 9 ), and [CN4Be4(Ne)(Ar)(Kr)(Xe)] ( 10 ), and the heteropentanuclear complex [HC4N5Be5(He)(Ne)(Ar)(Kr)(Xe)] ( 11 ). We also investigated the five model complexes [H3CNBeNg] (Ng=He? Xe) containing a single ? NBeNg moiety. The geometries and vibrational frequencies of all these species, invariably characterized as minimum‐energy structures, were computed at the MP2(full)/6‐31G(d,p)/SDD level of theory, and their stability with respect to the loss of the various Ng‐atoms was evaluated by single‐point calculations at the MP2(full)/6‐311G(d)/SDD level of theory. The beryllium‐Ng binding energies range from ca. 17 (Ng=He) to ca. 63 (Ng=Xe) kJ/mol, and the results of natural‐bond‐orbital (NBO) and atoms‐in‐molecules (AIM) analysis reveal that the Be? Ng interaction is essentially electrostatic for helium, neon, argon, and krypton, and has probably a small covalent contribution for xenon.  相似文献

The stability of noble gas (Ng)‐bound SiH3+ clusters is explored by ab initio computations. Owing to a high positive charge (+1.53 e?), the Si center of SiH3+ can bind two Ng atoms. However, the Si?Ng dissociation energy for the first Ng atom is considerably larger than that for the second one. As we go down group 18, the dissociation energy gradually increases, and the largest value is observed for the case of Rn. For NgSiH3+ clusters, the Ar–Rn dissociation processes are endergonic at room temperature. For He and Ne, a much lower temperature is required for it to be viable. The formation of Ng2SiH3+ clusters is also feasible, particularly for the heavier members and at low temperature. To shed light on the nature of Si?Ng bonding, natural population analysis, Wiberg bond indices computations, electron‐density analysis, and energy‐decomposition analysis were performed. Electron transfer from the Ng centers to the electropositive Si center occurs only to a small extent for the lighter Ng atoms and to a somewhat greater extent for the heavier analogues. The Si?Xe/Rn bonds can be termed covalent bonds, whereas the Si?He/Ne bonds are noncovalent. The Si?Ar/Kr bonds possess some degree of covalent character, as they are borderline cases. Contributions from polarization and charge transfer and exchange are key terms in forming Si?Ng bonds. We also studied the effect of substituting the H atoms of SiH3+ by halide groups (?X) on the Ng binding ability. SiF3+ showed enhanced Ng binding ability, whereas SiCl3+ and SiBr3+ showed a lower ability to bind Ng than SiH3+. A compromise originates from the dual play of the inductive effect of the ?X groups and X→Si π backbonding (pz–pz interaction).  相似文献

The global minima of Be2N2, Be3N2 and BeSiN2 clusters are identified using a modified stochastic kick methodology. The structure, stability and bonding nature of these clusters bound to noble gas (Ng) atoms are studied at the MP2/def2‐QZVPPD level of theory. Positive Be?Ng bond dissociation energy, which gradually increases down Group 18 from He to Rn, indicates the bound nature of Ng atoms. All of the Ng‐binding processes are exothermic in nature. The Xe and Rn binding to Be2N2 and Be3N2 clusters and Ar?Rn binding to BeSiN2 are exergonic processes at room temperature; however, for the lighter Ng atoms, lower temperatures are needed. Natural population analysis, Wiberg bond index computations, electron density analysis, and energy decomposition analysis are performed to better understand the nature of Be?Ng bonds.  相似文献

Here, we report a new type of Ng-containing compounds formed between the Ng-M group and nitrogen heterocyclic compounds, (CH2)nHNCuNg+ (n = 2, 3), (CH)4NMNg, and (CH)5NCuNg+ (M = Cu, Ag, Au; Ng = Ar, Kr, Xe). Quantum chemistry computations were carried out to optimize their geometric structures and calculate the dissociation energies, dissociation enthalpy, and dissociation free energy change. The stability of these Ng-bonding complexes was inspected by investigating the three dissociation processes of the these compounds into (a) Ng, M, and nitrogen heterocycle CnN; (b) CnN + MNg+; and (c) CnNM + Ng, which are all endothermic and nonspontaneous, these dissociation processes are also turned out to be endergonic in nature at standard state. The natural bond orbital, atoms in molecules, and energy decomposition analysis based on the molecular wavefunction show that the M-Ng and M-N bonds have some covalent and electrostatic characters.  相似文献

The characteristics and structures of single-electron halogen bond complexes [H3C?Br-Y (Y = H, CCH, CN, NC, C2H3)] have been investigated by theoretical calculation methods. The geometries were optimized and frequencies calculated at the B3LYP/6-311++G** level. The interaction energies were corrected for basis set superposition error (BSSE) and the wavefunctions obtained by the natural bond orbital (NBO) and atom in molecule (AIM) analyses at the MP2/6-311++G** level. For each H3C?Br-Y complex, a single-electron Br bond is formed between the unpaired electron of the CH3 (electron donor) radical and the Br atom of Br-Y (electron acceptor); this kind of single-electron bromine bond also possesses the character of a “three-electron bond”. Due to the formation of the single-electron Br bond, the C-H bonds of the CH3 radical bend away from the Br-Y moiety and the Br-Y bond elongates, giving red-shifted single-electron Br bond complexes. The effects of substituents, hybridization of the carbon atom, and solvent on the properties of the complexes have been investigated. The strengths of single-electron hydrogen bonds, single-electron halogen bonds and single-electron lithium bonds have been compared. In addition, the single-electron halogen bond system is discussed in the light of the first three criteria for hydrogen bonding proposed by Popelier.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations predict the existence of the compounds Ng(-C[triple bond]CH)4 and Ng(-C[triple bond]CH)6, where Ng=Xe or Kr. Presently known organic noble gas compounds have a coordination number of two at most. The Ng(-C[triple bond]CH)(4) molecules have D(4h) symmetry, and Ng(-C[triple bond]CH)(6) molecules have O(h) symmetry. The bonding in all these compounds is partly ionic and partly covalent, with significant contributions from both types of bonding. The relatively high vibrational frequencies and the substantial Ng-(C[triple bond]CH) binding energy in these species indicate that these compounds should be fairly stable, at least in cryogenic conditions. These compounds could be a very interesting addition to the range of known organic noble gas compounds. Suggestions are made on possible approaches to their preparation.  相似文献

Silicon in [Cl? SiH3? Cl]? is hypervalent, whereas carbon in [Cl? CH3? Cl]? is not. We have recently shown how this can be understood in terms of the ball‐in‐a‐box model, according to which silicon fits perfectly into the box that is constituted by the five substituents, whereas carbon is too small and, in a sense, “drops to the bottom” of the box. But how does carbon acquire hypervalency in the isostructural and isoelectronic noble gas (Ng)/methyl cation complexes [Ng? CH3? Ng]+ (Ng=He and Ne), which feature a delocalized D3h‐symmetric structure with two equivalent C? Ng bonds? From Ng=Ar onwards, the [Ng? CH3? Ng]+ complex again acquires a propensity to localize one of its axial C? Ng bonds and to largely break the other one, and this propensity increases in the order Ng=Ar3Ng+ and, for comparison, CH3Ng+, NgHNg+, and NgH+. It appears that, at variance with [Cl? CH3? Cl]?, the carbon atom in [Ng? CH3? Ng]+ can no longer be considered as a ball in a box of the five substituents.  相似文献

The MP2 ab initio quantum chemistry methods were utilized to study the halogen‐bond and pnicogen‐bond system formed between PH2X (X = Br, CH3, OH, CN, NO2, CF3) and BrY (Y = Br, Cl, F). Calculated results show that all substituent can form halogen‐bond complexes while part substituent can form pnicogen‐bond complexes. Traditional, chlorine‐shared and ion‐pair halogen‐bonds complexes have been found with the different substituent X and Y. The halogen‐bonds are stronger than the related pnicogen‐bonds. For halogen‐bonds, strongly electronegative substituents which are connected to the Lewis acid can strengthen the bonds and significantly influenced the structures and properties of the compounds. In contrast, the substituents which connected to the Lewis bases can produce opposite effects. The interaction energies of halogen‐bonds are 2.56 to 32.06 kcal·mol?1; The strongest halogen‐bond was found in the complex of PH2OH???BrF. The interaction energies of pnicogen‐bonds are in the range 1.20 to 2.28 kcal·mol?1; the strongest pnicogen‐bond was found in PH2Br???Br2 complex. The charge transfer of lp(P) ? σ*(Br? Y), lp(F) ? σ*(Br? P), and lp(Br) ? σ*(X? P) play important roles in the formation of the halogen‐bonds and pnicogen‐bonds, which lead to polarization of the monomers. The polarization caused by the halogen‐bond is more obvious than that by the pnicogen‐bond, resulting in that some halogen‐bonds having little covalent character. The symmetry adapted perturbation theory (SAPT) energy decomposition analysis showes that the halogen‐bond and pnicogen‐bond interactions are predominantly electrostatic and dispersion, respectively.  相似文献

The nature of the MoH···I bond in Cp2Mo(L)H···I‐C≡C‐R (L= H, CN, PPh2, C(CH3)3; R=NO2, Cl, Br, H, OH, CH3, NH2) was investigated using electrostatic potential analysis, topological analysis of the electron density, energy decomposition analysis and natural bond orbital analysis. The calculated results show that MoH···I interactions in the title complexes belong to halogen‐hydride bond, which is similar to halogen bonds, not hydrogen bonds. Different to the classical halogen bonds, the directionality of MoH···I bond is low; Although electrostatic interaction is dorminant, the orbital interactions also play important roles in this kind of halogen bond, and steric interactions are weak; the strength of H···I bond can tuned by the most positive electrostatic potential of the I atom. As the electron‐withdrawing ability of the R substituent in the alkyne increases, the electrostatic potential maximum of the I atom increases, which enhances the strength of the H···I halogen bond, as well as the electron transfer.  相似文献

The nature of the interactions of cyanide with lithium and hydrogen halides was investigated using ab initio calculations and topological analysis of electron density. The computed properties of the lithium‐bonded complexes RCN···LiX (R = H, F, Cl, Br, C?CH, CH?CH2, CH3, C2H5; X = Cl, Br) were compared with those of corresponding hydrogen‐bonded complexes RCN···HX. The results show that both types of intermolecular interactions are “closed‐shell” noncovalent interactions. The effect of substitution on the interaction energy and electron density at the bond critical points of the lithium and hydrogen bonding interactions is similar. In comparison, the interaction energies of lithium‐bonded complexes are more negative than those of hydrogen‐bonded counterparts. The electrostatic interaction plays a more important role in the lithium bond than in the hydrogen bond. On complex formation, the net charge and energy of the Li atom decrease and the atomic volume increases, while the net charge and energy of the H atom increase and the atomic volume decreases. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献
