The M/G/1 queue with impatient customers is studied. The complete formula of the limiting distribution of the virtual waiting time is derived explicitly. The expected busy period of the queue is also obtained by using a martingale argument.  相似文献

We consider M/G/1-type queueing systems with disasters, occurring at certain random times and causing an instantaneous removal of the entire residual workload from the system. After such a clearing, the system is assumed to be ready to start working again immediately. We consider clearings at deterministic equidistant times, at random times and at crossings of some prespecified level, and derive the stationary distribution of the workload process for these clearing times and some of their combinations.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a discrete time queueing system with multiple types of customers and a first-come-first-served (FCFS) service discipline. Customers arrive according to a semi-Markov arrival process and the service times of individual customers have PH-distributions. A GI/M/1 type Markov chain for a generalized age process of batches of customers is introduced. The steady state distribution of the GI/M/1 type Markov chain is found explicitly and, consequently, the steady state distributions of the age of the batch in service, the total workload in the system, waiting times, and sojourn times of different batches and different types of customers are obtained. We show that the generalized age process and a generalized total workload process have the same steady state distribution. We prove that the waiting times and sojourn times have PH-distributions and find matrix representations of those PH-distributions. When the arrival process is a Markov arrival process with marked transitions, we construct a QBD process for the age process and the total workload process. The steady state distributions of the waiting times and the sojourn times, both at the batch level and the customer level, are obtained from the steady state distribution of the QBD process. A number of numerical examples are presented to gain insight into the waiting processes of different types of customers.AMS subject classification: 60K25, 60J10This revised version was published online in June 2005 with corrected coverdate  相似文献

We consider a G / M / 1 queue with two-stage service policy. The server starts to serve with rate of μ1 customers per unit time until the number of customers in the system reaches λ. At this moment, the service rate is changed to that of μ2 customers per unit time and this rate continues until the system is empty. We obtain the stationary distribution of the number of customers in the system.  相似文献

We consider an M/PH/1 queue with workload-dependent balking. An arriving customer joins the queue and stays until served if and only if the system workload is no more than a fixed level at the time of his arrival. We begin by considering a fluid model where the buffer content changes at a rate determined by an external stochastic process with finite state space. We derive systems of first-order linear differential equations for the mean and LST (Laplace-Stieltjes Transform) of the busy period in this model and solve them explicitly. We obtain the mean and LST of the busy period in the M/PH/1 queue with workload-dependent balking as a special limiting case of this fluid model. We illustrate the results with numerical examples.   相似文献

We derive the stationary distribution of the regenerative process W(t), t ≥ 0, whose cycles behave like an M / G / 1 workload process terminating at the end of its first busy period or when it reaches or exceeds level 1, and restarting with some fixed workload . The result is used to obtain the overflow distribution of this controlled workload process; we derive and , where T is the duration of the first cycle. W(t) can be linked to a certain perishable inventory model, and we use our results to determine the distribution of the duration of an empty period.D. We address the probability that k or more Consecutive Customer Losses take place during a busy period of a queue, the so-called k-CCL probability, for oscillating GI X /M//n systems with state dependent services rates, also denoted as GI X /M(m)−M(m)//n systems, in which the service rates oscillate between two forms according to the evolution of the number of customers in the system. We derive an efficient algorithm to compute k-CCL probabilities in these systems starting with an arbitrary number of customers in the system that involves solving a linear system of equations. The results derived are illustrated for specific sets of parameters.  相似文献

In this paper continuity theorems are established for the number of losses during a busy period of the M/M/1/n queue. We consider an M/GI/1/n queueing system where the service time probability distribution, slightly different in a certain sense from the exponential distribution, is approximated by that exponential distribution. Continuity theorems are obtained in the form of one or two-sided stochastic inequalities. The paper shows how the bounds of these inequalities are changed if further assumptions, associated with specific properties of the service time distribution (precisely described in the paper), are made. Specifically, some parametric families of service time distributions are discussed, and the paper establishes uniform estimates (given for all possible values of the parameter) and local estimates (where the parameter is fixed and takes only the given value). The analysis of the paper is based on the level crossing approach and some characterization properties of the exponential distribution. We show in this paper that the computation of the distribution of the sojourn time of an arbitrary customer in a M/M/1 with the processor sharing discipline (abbreviated to M/M/1 PS queue) can be formulated as a spectral problem for a self-adjoint operator. This approach allows us to improve the existing results for this queue in two directions. First, the orthogonal structure underlying the M/M/1 PS queue is revealed. Second, an integral representation of the distribution of the sojourn time of a customer entering the system while there are n customers in service is obtained.  相似文献

We study a GI/M/c type queueing system with vacations in which all servers take vacations together when the system becomes empty. These servers keep taking synchronous vacations until they find waiting customers in the system at a vacation completion instant. The vacation time is a phase-type (PH) distributed random variable. Using embedded Markov chain modeling and the matrix geometric solution methods, we obtain explicit expressions for the stationary probability distributions of the queue length at arrivals and the waiting time. To compare the vacation model with the classical GI/M/c queue without vacations, we prove conditional stochastic decomposition properties for the queue length and the waiting time when all servers are busy. Our model is a generalization of several previous studies.  相似文献

We consider two queues with loss, one is the finite dam with Poisson arrivals and the other is the M/G/1 queue with impatient customers. We use the method of Kolmogorov's backward differential equation and construct a type of renewal equation to obtain the Laplace transform of busy(or wet) period in both queues. As a consequence, we provide the explicit forms of expected busy periods.  相似文献

In this paper we deal with the main multiserver retrial queue of M/M/c type with exponential repeated attempts. This model is known to be analytically intractable due to the spatial heterogeneity of the underlying Markov chain, caused by the retrial feature. For this reason several models have been proposed for approximating its stationary distribution, that lead to satisfactory numerical implementations. This paper extends these studies by developing efficient algorithmic procedures for calculating the busy period distribution of the main approximation models of Wilkinson [Wilkinson, R.I., 1956. Theories for toll traffic engineering in the USA, The Bell System Technical Journal 35, 421–514], Falin [Falin, G.I., 1983. Calculations of probability characteristics of a multiline system with repeated calls, Moscow University Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics 1, 43–49] and Neuts and Rao [Neuts, M.F., Rao, B.M., 1990. Numerical investigation of a multiserver retrial model, Queueing Systems 7, 169–190]. Moreover, we develop stable recursive schemes for the computation of the busy period moments. The corresponding distributions for the total number of customers served during a busy period are also studied. Several numerical results illustrate the efficiency of the methods and reveal interesting facts concerning the behavior of the M/M/c retrial queue.  相似文献

We consider a G/M/1 queue in which the patience time of the customers is constant. The stationary distribution of the workload of the server, or the virtual waiting time, is derived by the level crossing argument. To this end, we obtain the expected downcrossings of a level in the workload process during a busy cycle and then the expected length of a busy cycle. For both the expectations, we use the dual property between the M/G/1 and G/M/1 queue.  相似文献

This paper deals with a generalized M/G/1 feedback queue in which customers are either “positive" or “negative". We assume that the service time distribution of a positive customer who initiates a busy period is G e (x) and all subsequent positive customers in the same busy period have service time drawn independently from the distribution G b (x). The server is idle until a random number N of positive customers accumulate in the queue. Following the arrival of the N-th positive customer, the server serves exhaustively the positive customers in the queue and then a new idle period commences. This queueing system is a generalization of the conventional N-policy queue with N a constant number. Explicit expressions for the probability generating function and mean of the system size of positive customers are obtained under steady-state condition. Various vacation models are discussed as special cases. The effects of various parameters on the mean system size and the probability that the system is empty are also analysed numerically. We study a BMAP/>SM/1 queue with batch Markov arrival process input and semi‐Markov service. Service times may depend on arrival phase states, that is, there are many types of arrivals which have different service time distributions. The service process is a heterogeneous Markov renewal process, and so our model necessarily includes known models. At first, we consider the first passage time from level {κ+1} (the set of the states that the number of customers in the system is κ+1) to level {κ} when a batch arrival occurs at time 0 and then a customer service included in that batch simultaneously starts. The service descipline is considered as a LIFO (Last‐In First‐Out) with preemption. This discipline has the fundamental role for the analysis of the first passage time. Using this first passage time distribution, the busy period length distribution can be obtained. The busy period remains unaltered in any service disciplines if they are work‐conserving. Next, we analyze the stationary workload distribution (the stationary virtual waiting time distribution). The workload as well as the busy period remain unaltered in any service disciplines if they are work‐conserving. Based on this fact, we derive the Laplace–Stieltjes transform for the stationary distribution of the actual waiting time under a FIFO discipline. In addition, we refer to the Laplace–Stieltjes transforms for the distributions of the actual waiting times of the individual types of customers. Using the relationship between the stationary waiting time distribution and the stationary distribution of the number of customers in the system at departure epochs, we derive the generating function for the stationary joint distribution of the numbers of different types of customers at departures. For the single server system under processor sharing (PS) a sample path result for the sojourn times in a busy period is proved, which yields a sample path relation between the sojourn times under PS and FCFS discipline. This relation provides a corresponding one between the mean stationary sojourn times in G/G/1 under PS and FCFS. In particular, the mean stationary sojourn time in G/D/1 under PS is given in terms of the mean stationary sojourn time under FCFS, generalizing known results for GI/M/1 and M/GI/1. Extensions of these results suggest an approximation of the mean stationary sojourn time in G/GI/1 under PS in terms of the mean stationary sojourn time under FCFS. This paper deals with an MX/G/1 queueing system with a vacation period which comprises an idle period and a random setup period. The server is turned off each time when the system becomes empty. At this point of time the idle period starts. As soon as a customer or a batch of customers arrive, the setup of the service facility begins which is needed before starting each busy period. In this paper we study the steady state behaviour of the queue size distributions at stationary (random) point of time and at departure point of time. One of our findings is that the departure point queue size distribution is the convolution of the distributions of three independent random variables. Also, we drive analytically explicit expressions for the system state probabilities and some performance measures of this queueing system. Finally, we derive the probability generating function of the additional queue size distribution due to the vacation period as the limiting behaviour of the MX/M/1 type queueing system. Summary This paper is concerned with the study of a newM/G/1 retrial queueing system in which the delays between retrials are exponentially distributed random variables with linear intensityg(n)=α+nμ, when there aren≥1 customers in the retrial group. This new retrial discipline will be calledlinear control policy. We carry out an extensive analysis of the model, including existence of stationary regime, stationary distribution of the embedded Markov chain at epochs of service completions, joint distribution of the orbit size and the server state in steady state and busy period. The results agree with known results for special cases.  相似文献

The central model of this paper is anM/M/1 queue with a general probabilistic feedback mechanism. When a customer completes his ith service, he departs from the system with probability 1–p(i) and he cycles back with probabilityp(i). The mean service time of each customer is the same for each cycle. We determine the joint distribution of the successive sojourn times of a tagged customer at his loops through the system. Subsequently we let the mean service time at each loop shrink to zero and the feedback probabilities approach one in such a way that the mean total required service time remains constant. The behaviour of the feedback queue then approaches that of anM/G/1 processor sharing queue, different choices of the feedback probabilities leading to different service time distributions in the processor sharing model. This is exploited to analyse the sojourn time distribution in theM/G/1 queue with processor sharing. Some variants are also considered, viz., anM/M/1 feedback queue with additional customers who are always present, and anM/G/1 processor sharing queue with feedback.  相似文献

We study a multi-server M/M/c type queue with a single vacation policy for some idle servers. In this queueing system, if at a service completion instant, any d (d c) servers become idle, these d servers will take one and only one vacation together. During the vacation of d servers, the other cd servers do not take vacation even if they are idle. Using a quasi-birth-and-death process and the matrix analytic method, we obtain the stationary distribution of the system. Conditional stochastic decomposition properties have been established for the waiting time and the queue length given that all servers are busy.  相似文献
