The synthesis of novel Schiff's bases incorporating the five-membered 1,3,4-thiadiazole (series 7, 9) and 1,3,4-oxadiazole (series 8, 10) rings have been prepared and their liquid crystalline properties studied. All compounds of series 7 exhibit an enantiotropic smectic C phase. No liquid crystalline properties were observed for the compounds of series 8-10. A study of the structure/mesomorphic activity relationship is also described.  相似文献

The synthesis and liquid crystalline properties of new Schiff 's bases (series 3a-f) and azo compounds (4a-f) incorporating pyridine and 1,3,4-thiadiazole rings are reported. The first homologues in the series of Schiff's bases (3a-c) show a monotropic mesophase and the homologues 3d-f display an enantiotropic SmA phase. The only azo compounds to exhibit liquid crystalline properties are the homologues 4e, f which show a monotropic nematic phase. These series are compared with Schiff's bases and azo compounds analogues (series 5 and 6), previously reported by us and an AM1 study of the structure/mesomorphic property relationship is described.  相似文献

The synthesis and liquid crystalline properties of a new series of amides (series 2a-f,3a-d and 4a-d) incorporating pyridine and 1,3,4-thiadiazole rings are reported. No homologues of the series 2 show mesomorphic properties. In the series 3 only the highest homologues (3d) displays an enantiotropic SmA mesophase; the compound 3c exhibits a monotropic SmA mesophase, and the homologues 3a,b display no liquid crystal properties. The amides 4b-d display an enantiotropic SmA phases and the first homologue (4a) exhibit only crystalisotropic transition. These series are compared with previously reported Schiff's bases and amide analogues. A structural study by AM1 semi-empirical calculation is also described.  相似文献

Two new homologous series of chiral esters derived from Schiff's bases containing a 1,3,4‐thiadiazole unit (series 6 and 7) were synthesized and their liquid crystalline and ferroelectric properties investigated. All the compounds of series 6 exhibit SmC*–SmA dimorphism and the compounds of series 7 exhibit a SmC* phase. All the compounds of these series are ferroelectric liquid crystals.  相似文献

Two homologous series of esters derived from Schiff's bases containing the 1,3,4-thiadiazole unit (series 3 and 5) were synthesized and their liquid crystalline properties investigated by optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. A series of optically active thiadiazole Schiff's bases were prepared and their liquid crystalline properties were studied. Chirality was achieved by introducing an asymmetric carbon atom into the alkoxy group. Thus, 2-(p -active-alkoxyphenyl-imine)-5-(p-n-alkoxy)phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazoles were synthesized. Their structures were characterized using elemental analysis, and IR, 1H NMR and mass spectroscopies; their thermal properties were determined using DSC and polarized light microscopy. All the compounds are enantiotropic liquid crystals, and most of them exhibited both chiral smectic C* and cholesteric mesophases. Only one of them did not show a smectic C* phase.  相似文献

The synthesis and liquid crystalline properties of novel chiral Schiff's base dimers containing the 1,3,4-oxadiazole ring are reported. The length of the terminal S-alkyl chain has been varied. All the compounds synthesised were thermally stable and exhibited enantiotropic mesomorphism, showing either SmC*–SmA–TGB–N*–BP or SmC*–SmA phase sequence.  相似文献

Novel liquid crystal materials based on 1,3,5-benzenetrisamide derivatives with three pendant 2-phenyl-5-(mono-, di-, and/or tri-n-alkoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole arms (Ia–c, IIa–c) were prepared. The mesomorphic properties of these compounds were characterised and studied by differential scanning calorimetry, polarising optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The formation of a columnar mesophase was found to be dependent on the number of alkoxy side chains. The compounds Ib and IIb, with a total of six alkoxy chains, and compounds Ic and IIc, with nine alkoxy chains, exhibited an enantiotropic hexagonal columnar (Colh ) phase with high isotropisation temperatures; however, compounds Ia and IIa with a total of three alkoxy chains formed a crystalline phase. Compounds IIb and c were room temperature liquid crystals.  相似文献

The synthesis of new monodentate heterocyclic ligands 5-(4-pyridyl)-2-alkyltetrazole (L1a,b) and 4-[5-(2-alkyltetrazole)]aryl-4'-pyridinecarboxylate (L2a,b,c) containing two or three aromatic or heterocyclic rings (tetrazole, pyridine and benzene) and preparation of their corresponding silver(I) and palladium(II) complexes (Ia,b,c and IIa,b,c) are described. The thermal behaviour of the ligands and complexes was characterized by polarizing optical microscopy. The ligands and the complexes Ia,b,c and IIc showed no liquid crystalline phase. The complexes IIa,b showed mesomorphic behaviour, exhibiting smectic A enantiotropic mesomorphism X-ray diffraction measurements for complex Ia showed monodentate coordination of N-pyridine, and no coordination on the nitrogen atoms of the tetrazole ring.  相似文献

A series of fluorescent liquid crystalline compounds containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole and benzo[b]thiophene units have been prepared. In CH2Cl2 solution, these compounds displayed a fluorescent emission with λmax at 422–426 nm and quantum yields of 41–48%. Most of them exhibited thermotropic liquid crystalline properties with nematic and/or smectic A phases with excellent thermal stability. This work revealed that longer terminal alkoxy chains would be detrimental to the formation of mesophases for such kind of compounds. The effect of the terminal groups on mesomorphic and spectroscopic property is discussed.  相似文献

New chiral bent-core mesogens, derivatives of 1,3-phenylene bis[4-(alkanyloxyphenyliminomethyl)benzoate], were synthesized with variation of a substituent (X=F, Cl); their antiferroelectric properties are described. The mesomorphic and switching properties were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy, triangular wave method, and X-ray diffractometry in the small and wide angle regions. The presence of chiral tails at the terminals of side wings in the bent-core molecules induced a decrease in transition temperature and formation of the switchable SmC* phase in the melt. In addition, the introduction of a lateral halogen substituent in the Schiff's base moiety prevented the regular stacking of the molecules, resulting in the formation of very complex optical textures. The smectic phase with F-substituted PBFDOB and Cl-substituted PBCDOB showed layer spacings of 39 and 38.5?Å, respectively, corresponding to the end-to-end distance of molecules with a bent conformation. Significantly, the smectic phases of PBFDOB and PBCDOB exhibited a period of 179.5 and 131?Å, respectively, compatible with a helical structure with periodicity about 4.6 and 3.4 times the layer spacings.  相似文献

Regiospecific synthesis of 4H-3,3a-dihydrothiazolo[4,3-b]quinazolines and 7-methyl-4H-3,3a-dihydrothiazolo[4,3-b]quinazolines IVa and IVb is described. The N-substituted thiazolidinecarboxylic acids Ia and Ib were converted to the corresponding acid chlorides, IIa and IIb but neither reacted with silver trifluoromethanesulphonate. The carboxylic acids Ic and Id were however, decarboxylated to the corresponding iminium ions using phosphorus oxychloride and these afforded the nitroamines IIIa and IIIb. Reductive cyclisation led to the quinazolines IVa and IVb.  相似文献

We have previously demonstrated that the type of oxadiazole isomers is relatively affected on showing the liquid crystalline properties of the compounds that have the same chemical compositions. In this paper, we presented the synthesis and mesomorphic behaviour of related compounds that possess ester linkage with different substituted groups on para of the phenyl to six derivatives containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole and like another six containing 1,2,4-oxadiazole rings. The formation of these compounds was evidenced by FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, elemental analysis and mass techniques. Their mesophase behaviours were studied by optical polarised microscopy (OPM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). All of them presented liquid crystalline properties with nematic (N), smectic A (SmA) and smectic C (SmC) phases typically to calamitic compounds. The effect of substituent group nature and the type of oxadiazole isomers on the liquid crystalline properties of these compounds are analysed and discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Schiff's bases constitute a class of pharmaceutical and medicinally important molecules. The conventional methods for the synthesis of Schiff's bases require long reaction times and use of organic solvents. We report a novel and eco-friendly condensation reaction method permitting the “green synthesis” of various Schiff's bases by stirring 1,2-diaminobenzene with various aromatic aldehydes in water as solvent. This method is experimentally simple, clean, high yielding, green, and with reduced reaction times. The product is purified by simple filtration followed by washing with water and drying processes.  相似文献

Two homologous series, 4'-(4-n-alkoxybenzoyloxy)-4-substituted 3-nitrotolans (Ia-d) and 4'-(4-n-alkoxybenzoyloxy)-4-substituted tolans (IIa-c), with substituents (S)-2-methyl-1-butyl and n-alkyl, were synthesized by Sonogashira's coupling. Their mesomorphic behaviour is reported. The thermal stability of the series II is higher than that of series I. Series I melting points and clearing points are lower than those of series II. None of the chiral tolans or m-nitrotolans have an enantiotropic smectic C phase. When the chiral chains are changed to n-alkyl groups in compounds Ia,b and IIa, an enantiotropic smectic C phase is seen. All compounds have a nematic or cholesteric phase, and two homologues of series II present a monotropic smectic C phase with mosaic texture. The mesophases were characterized using optical polarized light microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry.  相似文献
