The aim of the present study is to investigate the flow of the Casson fluid by an inclined stretching cylinder. A heat transfer analysis is carried out in the presence of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation effects. The temperature dependent thermal conductivity of the Casson fluid is considered. The relevant equations are first simplified under usual boundary layer assumptions, and then transformed into ordinary differential equations by suitable transformations. The transformed ordinary differential equations are computed for the series solutions of velocity and temperature. A convergence analysis is shown explicitly. Velocity and temperature fields are discussed for different physical parameters by graphs and numerical values. It is found that the velocity decreases with the increase in the angle of inclination while increases with the increase in the mixed convection parameter. The enhancement in the thermal conductivity and radiation effects corresponds to a higher fluid temperature. It is also found that heat transfer is more pronounced in a cylinder when it is compared with a flat plate. The thermal boundary layer thickness increases with the increase in the Eckert number. The radiation and variable thermal conductivity decreases the heat transfer rate at the surface.  相似文献

This paper concentrates on the analysis of the thermal nonequilibrium effects during forced convection in a parallel-plate channel filled with a fluid saturated porous medium. The flow in a channel is described by the Brinkman-Forchheimer-extended Darcy equation and the thermal nonequilibrium effects are accounted for by utilizing the two energy equations model. Applying the perturbation technique, an analytical solution of the problem is obtained. It is established that the temperature difference between the fluid and solid phases for the steady fully developed flow is proportional to the ratio of the flow velocity to the mean velocity. This results in a local thermal equilibrium at the walls of the channel if the Brinkman term which allows for the no-slip boundary condition at the walls is included into the momentum equation.  相似文献

The steady flow and heat transfer of a couple stress fluid due to an inclined stretching cylinder are analyzed. The thermal conductivity is assumed to be temperature dependent. The governing equations for the flow and heat transfer are transformed into ordinary differential equations. Series solutions of the resulting problem are computed. The effects of various interested parameters, e.g., the couple stress parameter, the angle of inclination, the mixed convection parameter, the Prandtl number, the Reynolds number, the radiation parameter, and the variable thermal conductivity parameter, are illustrated. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are computed and analyzed. It is observed that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases while the velocity and the shear stress decrease when the couple stress parameter and the Reynolds number increase. The temperature increases when the Reynolds number increases.  相似文献

This work deals with the influence of thermal radiation on the problem of the mixed convection thin film flow and heat transfer of a micropolar fluid past a moving infinite vertical porous flat plate with a slip velocity. The fluid viscosity and the thermal conductivity are assumed to be the functions of temperature. The equations governing the flow are solved numerically by the Chebyshev spectral method for some representative value of various parameters. In comparison with the previously published work, the excellent agreement is shown. The effects of various parameters on the velocity, the microrotation velocity, and the temperature profiles,as well as the skin-friction coefficient and the Nusselt number, are plotted and discussed.  相似文献

In the present paper an unsteady thermal flow of non-Newtonian fluid is investigated which is of the fiow into axisymmetric mould cavity. In the second part an unsteady thermal flow of upper-convected Maxwell fluid is studied, For the flow into mould cavity the constitutive equation of power-law fluid is used as a rheological model of polymer fluid. The apparent viscosity is considered as a function of shear rate and temperature. A characteristic viscosity is introduced in order to avoid the nonlinearity due to the temperature dependence of the apparent viscosity. As the viscosity of the fluid is relatively high the flow of the thermal fluid can be considered as a flow of fully developed velocity field. However, the temperature field of the fluid fiow is considered as an unsteady one. The governing equations are constitutive equation, momentum equation of steady flow and energy conservation equation of non-steady form. The present system of equations has been solved numerically by the splitting differen  相似文献

The effect of internal heating source on the film momentum and thermal transport characteristic of thin finite power-law liquids over an accelerating unsteady horizontal stretched interface is studied. Unlike most classical works in this field, a general surface temperature distribution of the liquid film and the generalized Fourier’s law for varying thermal conductivity are taken into consideration. Appropriate similarity transformations are used to convert the strongly nonlinear governing partial differential equations (PDEs) into a boundary value problem with a group of two-point ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The correspondence between the liquid film thickness and the unsteadiness parameter is derived with the BVP4C program in MATLAB. Numerical solutions to the self-similarity ODEs are obtained using the shooting technique combined with a Runge-Kutta iteration program and Newton’s scheme. The effects of the involved physical parameters on the fluid’s horizontal velocity and temperature distribution are presented and discussed.  相似文献

This article presents a numerical solution for the flow of a Newtonian fluid over an impermeable stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium with the power law surface velocity and variable thickness in the presence of thermal radiation. The flow is caused by non-linear stretching of a sheet. Thermal conductivity of the fluid is assumed to vary linearly with temperature. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with appropriate boundary conditions for various physical parameters. The remaining system of ODEs is solved numerically using a differential transformation method (DTM). The effects of the porous parameter, the wall thickness parameter, the radiation parameter, the thermal conductivity parameter, and the Prandtl number on the flow and temperature profiles are presented. Moreover, the local skin-friction and the Nusselt numbers are presented. Comparison of the obtained numerical results is made with previously published results in some special cases, with good agreement. The results obtained in this paper confirm the idea that DTM is a powerful mathematical tool and can be applied to a large class of linear and non-linear problems in different fields of science and engineering.  相似文献

Based on the two-energy equation model, taking into account viscous dissipation due to the interaction between solid skeleton and pore fluid flow, temperature expressions of the solid skeleton and pore fluid flow are obtained analytically for the thermally developing forced convection in a saturated porous medium parallel plate channel, with walls being at constant temperature. It is proved that the temperatures of the two phases for the local thermal nonequilibrium approach to the temperature derived from the one-energy equation model for the local thermal equilibrium when the heat exchange coefficient goes to infinite. The temperature profiles are shown in figures for different dimensionless parameters and the effects of the parameters on the local thermal nonequilibrium are revealed by parameter study.  相似文献

The influence of partial slip, thermal radiation, chemical reaction and temperature‐dependent fluid properties on heat and mass transfer in hydro‐magnetic micropolar fluid flow over an inclined permeable plate with constant heat flux and non‐uniform heat source/sink is studied. The transverse magnetic field is assumed as a function of the distance from the origin. Also it is assumed that the fluid viscosity and the thermal conductivity vary as an inverse function and linear function of temperature, respectively. With the use of the similarity transformation, the governing system of non‐linear partial differential equations are transformed into non‐linear ordinary differential equations and are solved numerically using symbolic software MATHEMATICA 7.0 (Wolfram Research, Champaign, IL). The numerical values obtained for the velocity, microrotation, temperature, species concentration, skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt number are presented through graphs and tables for several sets of values of the parameters. The effects of various physical parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed.Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In the present paper, the boundary layer flow of viscous incompressible fluid over a stretching plate has been considered to solve heat flow problem with variable thermal conductivity. First, using similarity transformation, the components of velocity have been obtained. Then, the heat flow problem has been considered in two ways: (i) prescribed surface temperature (PST), and (ii) prescribed stretching plate heat flux (PHF) in case of variable thermal conductivity. Due to variable thermal conductivity, temperature profile has its two part—one mean temperature and other temperature profile induced due to variable thermal conductivity. The related results have been discussed with the help of graphs.  相似文献

Free convection over an isothermal vertical plate immersed in a fluid with variable viscosity and thermal conductivity is studied in this paper. We consider the two-dimensional, laminar and unsteady boundary layer equations. Using the appropriate variables, the basic governing equations are transformed to non-dimensional governing equations. These equations are then solved numerically using a very efficient implicit finite difference scheme known as Crank–Nicolson scheme. The fluid considered in this study is of viscous incompressible fluid of temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity. The effect of varying viscosity and thermal conductivity on velocity, temperature, shear stress and heat transfer rate are discussed. The velocity and temperature profiles are compared with previously published works and are found to be in good agreement.  相似文献

This paper investigates the effects of thermal radiation on the magnetohy-drodynamic (MHD) flow and heat transfer over a nonlinear shrinking porous sheet. The surface velocity of the shrinking sheet and the transverse magnetic field are assumed to vary as a power function of the distance from the origin. The temperature dependent viscosity and the thermal conductivity are also assumed to vary as an inverse function and a linear function of the temperature, respectively. A generalized similarity transformarion is used to reduce the governing partial differential equations to their nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations, and is solved numerically by using a finite difference scheme. The numerical results concern with the velocity and temperature profiles as well as the local skin-friction coefficient and the rate of the heat transfer at the porous sheet for different values of several physical parameters of interest.  相似文献

The direct numerical simulation(DNS) of heat transfer in a fully developed non-isothermal particle-laden turbulent channel flow is performed. The focus of this paper is on the modulation of the particles on turbulent thermal statistics in the particle-laden flow with three Prandtl numbers(P r = 0.71,1.5,and 3.0) and a shear Reynolds number(Reτ = 180).Some typical thermal statistics, including normalized mean temperature and their fluctuations, turbulent heat fluxes,Nusselt number and so on,are analyzed. The results show that the particles have less effects on turbulent thermal fields with the increase of Prandtl number. Two reasons can explain this.First, the correlation between fluid thermal field and velocity field decreases as the Prandtl number increases, and the modulation of turbulent velocity field induced by the particles has less influence on the turbulent thermal field.Second, the heat exchange between turbulence and particles decreases for the particle-laden flow with the larger Prandtl number, and the thermal feedback of the particles to turbulence becomes weak.  相似文献

The parametric excited vibration of a pipe under thermal loading may occur because the fluid is often transported heatedly. The effects of thermal loading on the pipe stability and local bifurcations have rarely been studied. The stability and the local bifurcations of the lateral parametric resonance of the pipe induced by the pulsating fluid velocity and the thermal loading are studied. A mathematical model for a simply supported pipe is developed according to the Hamilton principle. Two partial differential equations describing the lateral and longitudinal vibration are obtained. The singularity theory is utilized to analyze the stability and the bifurcation of the system solutions. The transition sets and the bifurcation diagrams are obtained both in the unfolding parameter space and the physical parameter space, which can reveal the relationship between the thermal field parameter and the dynamic behaviors of the pipe. The frequency response and the relationship between the critical thermal rate and the pulsating fluid velocity are obtained. The numerical results demonstrate the accuracy of the single-mode expansion of the solution and the stability and local bifurcation analyses. It also confirms the existence of the chaos. The presented work can provide valuable information for the design of the pipeline and the controllers to prevent the structural instability.  相似文献

This paper investigates the thermal behaviour of two micro-channel elements cooled by Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, with the objective to maximise thermal conductance subject to constraints. This is done firstly for a two-dimensional duct micro-channel and secondly for a three-dimensional complex micro-channel. A numerical model is used to solve the governing equations relating to flow and temperature fields for both cases. The geometric configuration of each cooling channel is optimised for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid at a fixed inlet velocity and heat flux. In addition, the effect of porosity on thermal conductance is investigated. It was found, in both cases, that the non-Newtonian fluid characteristics result in a significant variation in thermal conductance as inlet velocity is increased. The characteristics of a dilatant fluid greatly reduce thermal conductance on account of shear thickening on the boundary surface. In contrast, a pseudoplastic fluid shows increased thermal conductance. A comparison of the complex micro-channel and the duct micro-channel shows the improved thermal conductance resulting from greater flow access to the conductive area, achieved by the complex micro-channel.  相似文献

A one-dimensional motion of an incompressible fluid (gas) through a fixed bed of a granular material under a short thermal pulse at the bed inlet is considered. An analytical dimensionless solution of the boundary-value problem is presented in quadratures. Specific features of the propagation of convective thermal waves due to the fluid (gas) flow are studied. The data on the propagation velocity, amplitude, temperature difference between the fluid (gas) and the bed, and the length of the zone of intense heat transfer are obtained. The examples of the analysis of a continuum flow in engineering apparatuses which use convective thermal waves are presented.  相似文献

Temperature fluctuations in a mixing T-junction have been simulated on the FLUENT platform using the large eddy simulation (LES) turbulent flow model and a sub-grid scale Smagorinsky-Lilly model. The normalized mean and root mean square temperatures for describing time-averaged temperature and temperature fluctuation intensity, and the velocity are obtained. The power spectrum densities of temperature fluctuations, which are key parameters for thermal fatigue analysis and lifetime evaluation, are analyzed. Simulation results are consistent with experimental data published in the literature, showing that the LES is reliable. Several mixing processes under different conditions are simulated in order to analyze the effects of varying Reynolds number and Richardson number on the mixing course and thermal fluctuations.  相似文献

This letter is concerned with the plane and axisymmetric stagnation-point flows and heat transfer of an electrically-conducting fluid past a stretching sheet in the presence of the thermal radiation and heat generation or absorption. The analytical solutions for the velocity distribution and dimensionless temperature profiles are obtained for the various values of the ratio of free stream velocity and stretching velocity, heat source parameter, Prandtl number, thermal radiation parameter, the suction and injection velocity parameter and magnetic parameter and dimensionality index in the series form with the help of homotopy analysis method (HAM). Convergence of the series is explicitly discussed. In addition, shear stress and heat flux at the surface are calculated.  相似文献
