Thin films of silica hybrid materials consisting of two to three covalently bound organic chromophores at different ratios were conveniently synthesized and fabricated. The photophysical properties of these materials have been studied. The fluorescence spectra reveal complete fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from donor to acceptor, and the light-harvesting ability of these hybrid materials increases with increasing the molar fraction of donor chromophore. In a three-chromophore system, the energy is transferred from 300 to 530 nm successfully. Time-resolved fluorescence experiments are employed to elucidate the average rates and efficiencies (84-97%) of energy transfer in these organic/inorganic hybrid systems. The hybrid materials have been shown to provide antenna effect to facilitate energy transfer and light harvesting.  相似文献

Picosecond time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy was used to characterize energy transfer between chromophores displayed on a rod assembly of tobacco mosaic virus coat protein. The incorporation of donor chromophores with broad and overlapping absorption and emission spectra creates an "antenna" with a large absorption cross section, which can convey excitation energy over large distances before transfer to an acceptor chromophore. The possibility for both donor-to-donor and donor-to-acceptor transfer results in complex kinetic behavior at any single wavelength. Thus, to describe the various pathways of energy transfer within this system accurately, a global lifetime analysis was performed to obtain decay associated spectra. We found the energy transfer from donor to acceptor chromophores occurs in 187 ps with an efficiency of 36%. A faster decay component of 70 ps was also observed from global lifetime analysis and is attributed to donor-to-donor transfer. Although more efficient three-chromophore systems have been demonstrated, a two-chromophore system was studied here to facilitate analysis.  相似文献

Self-assembled nanotapes of a few tailor-made oligo(p-phenylenevinylene)s (OPVs) have been prepared and used as supramolecular donor scaffold to study the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) to a suitable acceptor. In nonpolar solvents, FRET occurs with nearly 63-81% efficiency, exclusively from the self-assembled OPVs to entrapped Rhodamine B, resulting in the quenching of the donor emission with concomitant formation of the acceptor emission at 625 nm. The efficiency of FRET is considerably influenced by the ability of the OPVs to form the self-assembled aggregates and hence could be controlled by structural variation of the molecules, and polarity of the solvent. Most importantly, FRET could be controlled by temperature as a result of the thermally reversible self-assembly process. The FRET efficiency was significantly enhanced (ca. 90%) in a xerogel film of the OPV1 which is dispersed with relatively less amount of the acceptor (33 mol %), when compared to that of the aggregates in dodecane gel. FRET is not efficient in polar solvents due to weak self-organization of the chromophores. These results indicate that energy transfer occurs exclusively from the self-assembled donor and not directly from the individual donor molecules. The present study illustrates that the self-assembly of chromophores facilitates temperature and solvent controlled FRET within pi-conjugated nanostructures.  相似文献

Specific sequential arrangements of three kinds of chromophores separated by regulated distances equaling approximately one pitch of the DNA duplex (34?Å) in non-covalent molecular assembly systems are constructed using chromophore/oligo-DNA conjugates. Vectorial photoenergy transmission along the DNA helix axis by fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) in a sequential chromophore array is observed and analyzed by time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and lifetime measurements using a femtosecond pulse laser system. The results suggest a FRET occurs on a picosecond scale between the donor chromophore and the acceptor chromophore through a mediator chromophore via a multi-step FRET over the molecular assemblies (two helical pitches, 68?Å).  相似文献

The efficiency of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between two chromophores positioned at opposite ends of DNA base pair domains has been investigated. The base pair domain serves as a helical scaffold which defines both the distance between chromophores and the dihedral angle between their electronic transition dipole moments, each incremental base pair increasing the distance and stepping the dihedral angle. Fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes have been determined for both the donor and acceptor chromophores. The experimental data are found to be in excellent accord with an oriented dipole model, rather than with the averaged dipole model conventionally assumed for FRET.  相似文献

Intramolecular F?rster-type excitation energy transfer (FRET) processes in a series of first-generation polyphenylene dendrimers substituted with spatially well-separated peryleneimide chromophores and a terryleneimide energy-trapping chromophore at the rim were investigated by steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. Energy-hopping processes among the peryleneimide chromophores are revealed by anisotropy decay times of 50--80 ps consistent with a FRET rate constant of k(hopp) = 4.6 ns(-1). If a terryleneimide chromophore is present at the rim of the dendrimer together with three peryleneimide chromophores, more than 95% of the energy harvested by the peryleneimide chromophores is transferred and trapped in the terryleneimide. The two decay times (tau(1) = 52 ps and tau(2) = 175 ps) found for the peryleneimide emission band are recovered as rise times at the terryleneimide emission band proving that the energy trapping of peryleneimide excitation energy by the terryleneimide acceptor occurs via two different, efficient pathways. Molecular- modeling-based structures tentatively indicate that the rotation of the terryleneimide acceptor group can lead to a much smaller distance to a single donor chromophore, which could explain the occurrence of two energy-trapping rate constants. All energy-transfer processes are quantitatively describable with F?rster energy transfer theory, and the influence of the dipole orientation factor in the F?rster equation is discussed.  相似文献

F?rster type resonance energy transfer (FRET) in donor-acceptor peryleneimide-terrylenediimide dendrimers has been examined at the single molecule level. Very efficient energy transfer between the donor and the acceptor prevent the detection of donor emission before photobleaching of the acceptor. Indeed, in solution, on exciting the donor, only acceptor emission is detected. However, at the single molecule level, an important fraction of the investigated individual molecules (about 10-15%) show simultaneous emission from both donor and acceptor chromophores. The effect becomes apparent mostly after photobleaching of the majority of donors. Single molecule photon flux correlation measurements in combination with computer simulations and a variety of excitation conditions were used to determine the contribution of an exciton blockade to this two-color emission. Two-color defocused wide-field imaging showed that the two-color emission goes hand in hand with an unfavorable orientation between one of the donors and the acceptor chromophore.  相似文献

A convenient protocol to fabricate an organic–inorganic hybrid system with covalently bound light‐harvesting chromophores (stilbene and terphenylene–divinylene) and an electron acceptor (titanium oxide) is described. Efficient energy‐ and electron‐transfer processes may take place in these systems. Covalent bonding between the acceptor chromophores and the titania/silica matrix would be important for electron transfer, whereas fluorescence resonant energy transfer (FRET) would strongly depend on the ratio of donor to acceptor chromophores. Time‐resolved spectroscopy was employed to elucidate the detailed photophysical processes. The coupling of FRET and electron transfer was shown to work coherently to lead to photocurrent enhancement. The photocurrent responses reached a maximum when the hybrid‐material thin film contained 60 % acceptor and 40 % donor.  相似文献

Photoinduced electron transfer in donor-bridge-acceptor systems with zinc porphyrin (or its pyridine complex) as the donor and gold(III) porphyrin as the acceptor has been studied. The porphyrin moieties were covalently linked with geometrically similar bridging chromophores which vary only in electronic structure. Three of the bridges are fully conjugated pi-systems and in a fourth, the conjugation is broken. For systems with this bridge, the quenching rate of the singlet excited state of the donor was independent of solvent and corresponded to the rate of singlet energy transfer expected for a F?rster mechanism. In contrast, systems with a pi-conjugated bridging chromophore show a solvent-dependent quenching rate that suggests electron transfer in the Marcus normal region. This is supported by picosecond transient absorption measurements, which showed formation of the zinc porphyrin radical cation only in systems with pi-conjugated bridging chromophores. On the basis of the Marcus and Rehm-Weller equations, an electronic coupling of 5-20 cm(-)(1) between the donor and acceptor is estimated for these systems. The largest coupling is found for the systems with the smallest energy gap between the donor and bridge singlet excited states. This is in good agreement with the coupling calculated with quantum mechanical methods, as is the prediction of an almost zero coupling in the systems with a nonconjugated bridging chromophore.  相似文献

We report on the development of a self-assembled donor for long-range fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). To this end, a three-chromophore FRET (3Ch-FRET) system was constructed, which consists of a luminescent quantum dot (QD), enhanced yellow fluorescent proteins (EYFP), and Atto647-dye-modified oligonucleotides. The system was assembled by electrostatic binding of covalent EYFP-ssDNA conjugate to the QD and subsequent hybridization with complementary oligonucleotides labeled with Atto647-dye. The final conjugates comprise three different two-chromophore FRET (2Ch-FRET) subsystems, QD/EYFP, QD/Atto647, and EYFP/Atto647, respectively, which were studied in detail by steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence measurements. The helicity of DNA allowed us to control donor/acceptor separations and thus enabled the detailed analysis of the various FRET processes. We found that the 2Ch-FRET and the 3Ch-FRET (QD/EYFP/Atto647) systems revealed FRET efficiencies and transfer rates that were affected by the availability of distinct FRET pathways. The derived energy-transfer efficiencies and F?rster radii indicated that within the 3Ch-FRET system, the 2Ch-FRET subsystem QD/EYFP showed highest FRET efficiencies ranging from 64 to 72%. Thus, it can be used as a powerful donor system that combines the intrinsic advantages of QDs (large and spectrally broad absorption cross section) and EYFP (high quantum yield) and enables long-distance FRET processes for donor-acceptor distances of up to 13 nm.  相似文献

A new design for a quasi‐solid‐state Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) enabled solar cell with unattached Lucifer yellow (LY) dye molecules as donors and CdS/CdSe quantum dots (QDs) tethered to titania (TiO2) as acceptors is presented. The Forster radius is experimentally determined to be 5.29 nm. Sequential energy transfer from the LY dye to the QDs and electron transfer from the QDs to TiO2 is followed by fluorescence quenching and electron lifetime studies. Cells with a donor–acceptor architecture (TiO2/CdS/CdSe/ZnS‐LY/S2?‐multi‐walled carbon nanotubes) show a maximum incident photon‐to‐current conversion efficiency of 53 % at 530 nm. This is the highest efficiency among Ru‐dye free FRET‐enabled quantum dot solar cells (QDSCs), and is much higher than the donor or acceptor‐only cells. The FRET‐enhanced solar cell performance over the majority of the visible spectrum paves the way to harnessing the untapped potential of the LY dye as an energy relay fluorophore for the entire gamut of dye sensitized, organic, or hybrid solar cells.  相似文献

We have investigated electronic excitation energy transfer in a specifically designed bichromophoric donor/acceptor dyad in which the donor (perylenediimide) and acceptor (terrylenediimide) are linked by a rigid heptaphenyl-spacer. Because of the choice of the bridge, which defines the distance and orientation of the two chromophores, donor as well as acceptor emission is observed. The significantly smaller photostability of the donor allows for time-resolved measurements of the acceptor emission at the single-molecule level with and without energy transfer from the donor. By analyzing the differences of the rise/decay profiles for both pathways, we could determine time constants of energy transfer with high accuracy for single dyads. The results show that the experimental approach presented here works even for situations in which the energy transfer times are smaller than the temporal resolution of the detection system.  相似文献

Fluorescence quenching in solutions of bovine serum albumin has been investigated in the presence of 6-mercaptopurine and ionic surfactants. Spectroscopic analysis of the emission quenching at different temperatures revealed that the quenching mechanism of bovine serum albumin by 6-mercaptopurine was dynamic quenching mechanism. The Stern–Volmer quenching model has been successfully applied, and the activation energy of the interaction between 6-mercaptopurine and bovine serum albumin as much as 4.26 kJ mol−1 was calculated. The distance r between donor (bovine serum albumin) and acceptor (6-mercaptopurine) was obtained according to fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). The result of synchronous fluorescence spectra shows that the conformation of bovine serum albumin has been changed at the present of 6-mercaptopurine.  相似文献

We used lanthanide-ion doped oxide nanoparticles, Y(0.6)Eu(0.4)VO(4), as donors in fluorescent resonance energy transfer (FRET) experiments. The choice of these nanoparticles allows us to combine the advantages of the lanthanide-ion emission, in particular the long lifetime and the large Stokes shift between absorption and emission, with the detectability of the nanoparticles at the single-particle level. Using cyanine 5 (Cy5) organic molecules as acceptors, we demonstrated FRET down to the single-nanoparticle level. We showed that, due to the long donor lifetime, unambiguous and precise FRET measurements can be performed in solution even in the presence of large free acceptor concentrations. Highly efficient energy transfer was obtained for a large number of acceptor molecules per donor nanoparticle. We determined FRET efficiencies as a function of Cy5 concentration which are in good agreement with a multiple acceptor-multiple donor calculation. On the basis of the donor emission recovery due to acceptor photobleaching, we demonstrated energy transfer from single-nanoparticle donors in fluorescence microscopy experiments.  相似文献

We report on the directional F?rster resonance energy transfer (FRET) process taking place in single molecules of a first (T1P4) and a second (T2P8) generation of a perylenemonoimide (P)-terrylenediimide (T)-based dendrimer in which the chromophores are separated by rigid polyphenylene arms. At low excitation powers, single-molecule detection and spectroscopy of T1P4 and T2P8 dendrimers point to a highly efficient directional FRET from P donors to the central T acceptor, optical excitation at 488 nm resulting in exclusively acceptor emission in the beginning of the detected fluorescence intensity. Donor emission is seen only upon the bleaching of the acceptor. High-resolution time-resolved single-molecule fluorescence data measured with a microchannel plate photomultiplier reveal, for T2P8, a broad range of FRET rates as a result of a broad range of distances and orientations experienced by the donor-acceptor dendrimers when immobilized in a polymer matrix. Single-molecule data from T2P8 on 488 nm excitation are indicative for the presence, after terrylenediimide bleaching, of a P-P excited dimer characterized by a broad emission spectrum peaking around 600 nm and by fluctuating fluorescence decay times. At high excitation powers, single T1P4 and T2P8 molecules display simultaneous emission from both donor and acceptor chromophores. The effect, called "exciton blockade", occurs due to the presence of multiple excitations in a single molecule.  相似文献

Single- and two-step fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) was investigated between laser dyes rhodamine 123 (R123), rhodamine 610 (R610), and oxazine 4 (Ox4). The dye molecules played the role of molecular antennas and energy donors (ED, R123), energy acceptors (EA, Ox4), or both (R610). The dye cations were embedded in the films based on layered silicate laponite (Lap) with the thickness of several μm. Optically homogeneous films were prepared directly from dye/Lap colloids. Dye concentration in the films was high enough for FRET to occur but sufficiently low to prevent the formation of large amounts of molecular aggregates. The films were characterized by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies, and their optical properties were compared with colloid precursors and dye aqueous solutions. The phenomenon of FRET was confirmed by means of steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopies. Significant quenching of ED emission in favor of the luminescence from EA molecules was observed. FRET led to the decrease in the lifetimes of excited states of ED molecules. Molecular orientation of dye molecules was determined by polarized absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies. Almost parallel orientation with respect to silicate surface (~30°) was determined for all fluorescent species of the dyes. Theoretical model on relationship between anisotropy and molecular orientation of the fluorophores fits well with measured data. The analysis of anisotropy measurements confirmed the significant role of FRET in the phenomenon of light depolarization.  相似文献

A spectroscopic characterization of polymers containing rigid π‐conjugated oligo(phenyleneethynylene) chromophores as well as oligo(phenyleneethynylene) and methyl methacrylate is presented. The polymers exhibit molar masses of up to 15 000 g mol?1 and a degree of polymerization between 22 and 80. Emission measurements of the monomeric and polymeric species show that radiative as well as nonradiative rates are influenced by the degree of polymerization due to intramolecular interactions of chromophores pendant to the polymer backbone. Time‐resolved emission anisotropy measurements suggest that energy migrates within the polymers. Steady‐state emission anisotropy measurements also point to energy migration. Additionally, two oligo(phenyleneethynylene)s with different sizes of the conjugated system are copolymerized in order to enable energy trapping due to energy transfer. The shortened energy‐donor fluorescence lifetime within the donor–acceptor copolymers suggest energy transfer. Depending on the degree of polymerization, dispersion of the donor fluorescence lifetime is observed.  相似文献

The photophysics of a dendrimer containing four donor chromophores and one acceptor chromophore are studied at the single-molecule level. Upon excitation of the donors exclusive acceptor emission is observed due to efficient F?rster energy transfer. For 70% of the molecules donor emission is observed after bleaching of the acceptor, leading to a reduction of the F?rster energy transfer efficiency. Furthermore, we demonstrate that in this molecular system the donor chromophores do not bleach by a triplet-sensitized photooxidation.  相似文献
