Intrigued by the good performance of 1,5‐diphenylpenta‐1,4‐diyn‐3‐one ( DPD ) as photoinitiator for radical polymerization we prepared and investigated several donor substituted derivatives. UV‐Vis spectroscopy revealed a gradual red‐shift of λmax and higher extinction in the order of the donor capability. A methoxy‐substituted derivative ( O‐DPD ) exhibited significant photoinitiation activity in photo‐DSC experiments. Steady state photolysis experiments showed decreased decomposition rates with increasing donor capability. A dimethylamino derivative N‐DPD was even photostable under these conditions. Because of to the D‐π‐A‐π‐D system of these compounds two‐photon induced 3D photopolymerization experiments were performed and N‐DPD showed outstanding performance compared to often applied single photon initiators. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three novel conjugated polymers with N‐arylpyrrole as the conjugated bridge were designed and synthesized, which emitted strong one‐ or two‐photon excitation fluorescence in dilute tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution with high quantum yields. The maximal two‐photon absorption (TPA) cross‐sections of the polymers, measured by the two‐photon‐induced fluorescence method using femtosecond laser pulses in THF, were 752, 1114, and 1869 GM, respectively, indicating that the insertion of electron‐donating or electron‐withdrawing moieties into the polymer backbone could benefit to the increase of the TPA cross‐section. Their large TPA cross‐sections, coupled with the relatively high emission quantum yields, made these conjugated polymers attractive for practical applications, especially two‐photon excited fluorescence. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. p‐Toluenesulfonic acid (TsOH) and several alkyl p‐toluenesulfonates, that is, methyl p‐toluenesulfonate (TsOMe), cyclohexyl p‐toluenesulfonate (TsOCH), and neopentyl p‐toluenesulfonate (TsONP), were evaluated as initiators for the ring‐opening polymerization of benzoxazines. TsOH and TsOMe were highly efficient initiators that induced the polymerization at 60 and 80 °C, respectively. In contrast, TsOCH and TsONP did not initiate the polymerization below 100 °C, while they induced the polymerization at elevated temperatures, 120 and 150 °C, respectively. When TsOCH was used as an initiator, the corresponding polymerization rate was comparable to that observed for the polymerization with using TsOH as an initiator. These results suggested that neutral TsOCH and TsONP can be regarded as “thermally latent initiators,” which underwent the thermal dissociation at the elevated temperatures to generate the corresponding alkyl cations and/or TsOH as the initiators of the polymerization. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Printing of high‐resolution three‐dimensional nanostructures utilizing two‐photon polymerization has gained significant attention recently. In particular, isopropyl thioxanthone (ITX) has been implemented as a photoinitiator due to its capability of initiating and depleting polymerization on demand, but new photoinitiating materials are still needed in order to reduce the power requirements for the high‐throughput creation of 3D structures. To address this point, a suite of new thioxanthone‐based photoinitiators were synthesized and characterized. Then two‐photon polymerization was performed using the most promising photoinitiating molecule. Importantly, one of the initiators, 2,7‐bis[(4‐(dimethylamino)phenyl ethynyl)‐9H‐thioxanthen‐9‐one] (BDAPT), showed a fivefold improvement in the writing threshold over the commonly used ITX molecule. To elucidate the fundamental mechanism, the excitation and inhibition behavior of the BDAPT molecule were evaluated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, low‐temperature phosphorescence spectroscopy, ultra‐fast transient absorption spectroscopy, and the two‐photon Z‐scan spectroscopic technique. The improved polymerization threshold of this new photoinitiator presents a clear pathway for the modification of photoinitiators in 3D nanoprinting. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Various ladder‐like structured poly(phenyl‐co‐methacryl silsesquioxane)s (LPMSQ)s with high molecular weight (Mw = 10,000 ~ 40,000) were synthesized by direct hydrolysis and polymerization in the presence of base catalyst at 25 °C. Synthesized LPMSQs mainly showed ladder‐like structure and photo‐cure reaction by 100 mW/cm2 (360 nm) for 10 s without any photo‐cure initiators. Chemical composition and structural analysis of the obtained LPMSQs were characterized using 1H NMR, 29Si NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and X‐ray diffraction (XRD). Physical properties of LPMSQs before and after photcuring were analyzed by Nanoindentation. Employing enediynes as crosslinking precursors, a novel yet efficient strategy, namely photo‐triggered Bergman cyclization, was integrated with intramolecular chain collapse to yield polymeric nanoparticles with the size regime below 20 nm. Enediyne motif was designed delicately to possess a high photo‐reactivity, with the double bond locked in a methyl benzoate ring while triple bonds substituted with phenyls. Single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization was conducted to provide linear acrylate copolymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow polydispersities. Poly(butylarylate‐co‐ 5 ) went through UV‐irradiation with a concurrent Bergman cyclization, resulting in well‐defined ultrafine polymeric nanoparticles. Results from NMR, Raman scattering, photoluminescence and UV‐vis spectra corroborated the presence of conjugative structures in the polymeric nanoparticles, indicating the occurrence of photo‐induced Bergman cyclization. A series of other acrylate‐based nanoparticles were investigated to confirm the applicability of such a unique strategy in thermal sensitive but UV‐stable polymeric structures, making photo‐Bergman cyclization a promising tool towards polymeric nanoparticles. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis, one‐ and two‐photon absorption (TPA) and emission properties of three novel 1,4‐diketo‐3,6‐diphenylpyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole (DPP)/3,6‐carbazole (Cz)/terfluorene (TF) copolymers are reported. The molar ratios of DPP versus TF are 15:85 ( TCP15 ), 25:75 ( TCP25 ), and 50:50 ( TCP50 ) under Cz:(TF + DPP) = 1. Two distinguished one‐photon absorption and emission bands observed in solutions imply that the electronic states of Cz–DPP–Cz and Cz–TF–Cz are not well mixed and the energy transfer from TF segments to DPP units is incomplete. However, in film states, all three copolymers are monochromatic red emitting with the peak wavelengths at 617, 621, and 631 nm for TCP15 , TCP25 , and TCP50 , respectively, indicating that the interchain interactions also have played an important role in the energy transfer. In two‐photon measurement, the copolymer solutions still exhibit two distinguished emission bands but the relative intensities at short‐wavelength region are obviously decreased, implying that Cz–TF–Cz segment is high one‐photon active but low TPA active, whereas Cz–DPP–Cz unit is low one‐photon active but high TPA active. All the copolymers show large δ over the range of measured wavelengths and the δ values of TCP15 , TCP25 , and TCP50 increase with DPP contents and are up to 530, 770, and 850 GM per repeating unit, respectively. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new high‐sensitive photo‐radical initiator, N‐[2‐(2‐acryloyloxyethoxy)ethyl]‐1,8‐naphthalimide (NI6), with good thermal stability based on naphthylimide derivative was developed. NI6 was prepared by the condensation of N‐[2‐(2‐hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]‐1,8‐naphthalimide and acryloyl chloride in the presence of 4‐dimethylaminopyridine. The film consisting of NI6 and pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA) showed higher photosensitivity than those containing conventional photo‐radical initiators such as acrylic acid 2‐(2‐{2‐[2‐(4‐benzoyl‐phenoxy)‐ethoxy]‐ethoxy}‐ethoxy)‐ethyl ester, cyclohexylmaleimide, and the resulting film exhibited very high transmittance over 400 nm. The thermal stability of NI6 was very high and no decomposed residues were observed from the film consisting of NI 6 after heating at 250 °C for 1 h. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel crown ether‐containing photochromic comb‐shaped liquid crystalline polyacrylates with different macromolecular structure of side groups were synthesized and investigated. Phase behavior, optical and photo‐optical properties of thin spin‐coated films of these polymers were studied. A special attention was paid to a comparative study of the photo‐orientation phenomena occurring in the polymer films under a polarized light action. It was shown that complex formation with the potassium ions results in the decrease in degree of the photoinduced order that can be used for the creation of new materials for sensor devices. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2,2′‐Azobis[N‐(2‐propenyl)‐2‐methylpropionamide] (APMPA) with two carbon–carbon double bonds and an azo group was copolymerized with vinyl benzoate (VBz) at 60 °C, resulting in azo groups containing VBz/APMPA prepolymers and crosslinked polymers as soluble and insoluble polymeric azo initiators, respectively. The polymerization characteristics of APMPA as a novel diallyl monomer were clarified with the rate and degree of polymerization and the monomer reactivity ratios. The gelation behaviors in VBz/APMPA crosslinking copolymerizations were examined in detail with a comparison of the actual gel point and the theoretical gel point calculated according to Stockmayer's equation with the tentative assumption of equal reactivity for both vinyl groups belonging to VBz and APMPA. The effectiveness of the resulting branched or crosslinked poly(VBz‐co‐APMPA)s as soluble or insoluble polymeric azo initiators, respectively, at providing graft polymers through the cleavage of azo groups at an elevated temperature was examined by the polymerization of allyl benzoate at 120 °C. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We report the synthesis of high‐molecular‐weight linear polyisobutylenes (PIBs) and PIB networks from low‐molecular‐weight PIB by thiol‐ene click chemistry. Thus, liquid allyl‐telechelic PIB was reacted with small di‐ and tri‐thiols, and the thiolated intermediates chain‐extended by UV‐ or thermally induced free radical initiation to linear and crosslinked products. PIB networks were also prepared by crosslinking SH‐telechelic PIB with a small triallyl compound. Linear products were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and GPC, and networks by FTIR spectroscopy, extractables, swelling, and permanent set. The effect of reaction conditions (nature of thiol chain extender, concentration of photo‐ and thermal initiators, UV radiation time, and reagent concentrations) on chain extension and crosslinking was investigated. Under well‐defined conditions high‐molecular‐weight PIBs and tight PIB networks were prepared. Thiol‐ene click chemistry provides novel thiolated PIB derivatives and is a useful strategy for the convenient preparation of high‐molecular‐weight rubbery PIBs and tight PIB networks from low‐molecular‐weight PIB precursors. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(quinoxaline‐2,3‐diyl)s bearing alkoxy pendants was synthesized by living polymerization of 4,5‐dialkoxy‐3,6‐dimethyl‐1,2‐diisocyanobenzenes, which were easily accessible from 3,6‐dimethylcatechol, using organonickel complexes as initiators. Thermal properties of the obtained polymers were fully determined by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry, exhibiting strong dependence on their side chains. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Asymmetric anionic polymerizations of 7‐cyano‐7‐alkoxycarbonyl‐1,4‐benzoquinone methides ( 1 ) with various alkoxy groups were performed using chiral initiators such as lithium isopropylphenoxide (iPrPhOLi)/(S)‐(–)‐2,2′‐isopropylidene‐bis(4‐phenyl‐2‐oxazoline) ((–)‐PhBox) and lithium isopropylphenoxide (iPrPhOLi)/(–)‐sparteine ((–)‐Sp) to investigate the effect of the alkoxy groups of alkoxycarbonyl substituent in the monomers 1 and chiral ligands of chiral initiators on the control of chiral center in the formation of polymers. Molar optical rotation values of the polymers were significantly dependent upon alkoxy groups, and the polymers with higher molar optical rotation were obtained in monomers with primary alkoxy groups. The asymmetric anionic oligomerizations of the quinone methides having methoxy( 1a ), ethoxy( 1b ), and n‐propoxy( 1c ) groups with chiral initiators were carried out. Both 1‐mers and 2‐mers were isolated and their optical resolutions were performed to determine the extent of stereocontrol. High stereoselectivity was observed at the propagation reaction, but not at the initiation reaction. The effect of the counterion on the control of chiral center in the formation of the polymer was investigated in the asymmetric anionic polymerizations of 1b with iPrPhOM(M = Li, Na, K)/(–)‐Sp and iPrPhOM(M = Li, Na, K)/(–)‐PhBox initiators and discussed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A family of four different Hoveyda‐type initiators bearing a π‐extended carbene ligand was characterized regarding the activity in ring opening metathesis polymerization. One of the initiators shows high activity at ambient temperature, similar to the second generation Hoveyda–Grubbs catalyst and is even suited for the controlled polymerization of certain norbornene derivatives. The other family members exhibit a pronounced latency at room temperature, and polymerization can be triggered by heat. The scope of these initiators in the thermally triggered polymerizations of norbornene derivatives in general and dicyclopentadiene in particular was disclosed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of new water‐soluble photoinitiators (PIs) based on hydroxyalkylphenones, benzophenones, and thioxanthones with carbohydrate residues such as glucose, cellobiose, and 1‐amino‐1‐deoxy‐D ‐glucitol (glucamine) is described. In addition, selected initiators were reacted with methacryloyl chloride to obtain copolymerizable initiators with improved migration stability. Results from photo differential scanning calorimetry and gel‐content measurements in commercially available water‐thinnable and emulsion‐type resins as well as 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate are included. Glucose‐modified PIs gave the best results with respect to compatibility with the resin, reactivity, and gel content. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We developed a highly efficient system for light‐induced protein dimerization in live cells using photo‐caged derivatives of the phytohormone gibberellic acid (GA3). We demonstrate the application of the photo‐activatable chemical inducer of dimerization (CID) for the control of protein translocation with high spatiotemporal precision using light as an external trigger. Furthermore, we present a new two‐photon (2P)‐sensitive caging group, whose exceptionally high two‐photon cross section allows the use of infrared light to efficiently unleash the active GA3 for inducing protein dimerization in living cells.  相似文献

The suitability of various peroxide initiators for a radical polymerization‐based self‐healing system is evaluated. The initiators are compared using previously established criteria in the design of ring opening metathesis polymerization‐based self‐healing systems. Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) emerges as the best performing initiator across the range of evaluation criteria. Epoxy vinyl ester resin samples prepared with microcapsules containing BPO exhibited upwards of 80% healing efficiency in preliminary tests in which a mixture of acrylic monomers and tertiary amine activator was injected into the crack plane of the sample after the initial fracture. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here we report the incorporation of ketone groups into poly(4‐hydroxystyrene)s main chain by radical copolymerization of O‐protected hydroxystyrenes such as 4‐ethoxyethoxystyrene and 4‐acetoxystyrene with 2,2‐diphenyl‐4‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxorane (DPMD) followed by removal of the protective groups and the photodegradable behavior of obtained copolymers. The copolymerization of O‐protected hydroxystyrenes with DPMD gave the corresponding copolymers bearing DMPD‐derived ketone groups in the main chain, of which content could be controlled by changing monomer feed ratio. The ethoxyethyl and acetyl groups of the obtained copolymers were completely removed under acidic and basic conditions, respectively, to afford poly(4‐hydroxystyrene)s having ketone moieties in the main chain. The molecular weights of these copolymers decreased under photoirradiation due to the Norrish‐type reactions of the ketone groups distributed in the main chain. These results demonstrate that poly(4‐hydroxystyrene)s having ketone groups in the main chain possess good photo‐scissibility. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A library of π‐expanded α,β‐unsaturated ketones was designed and synthesized. They were prepared by a combination of Wittig reaction, Sonogashira reaction, and aldol condensation. It was further demonstrated that the double aldol condensation can be performed effectively for highly polarized styrene‐ and diphenylacetylene‐derived aldehydes. The strategic placement of two dialkylamino groups at the periphery of D ‐π‐A‐π‐D molecules resulted in dyes with excellent solubility. These ketones absorb light in the region 400–550 nm. Many of them display strong solvatochromism so that the emission ranges from 530–580 nm in toluene to the near‐IR region in benzonitrile. Ketones based on cyclobutanone as central moieties display very high fluorescence quantum yields in nonpolar solvents, which decrease drastically in polar media. Photophysical studies of these new functional dyes revealed that they possess an enhanced two‐photon absorption cross section when compared with simpler ketone derivatives. Due to strong polarization of the resulting dyes, values of two‐photon absorption cross sections on the level of 200–300 GM at 800 nm were achieved, and thanks to that as well as the presence of the keto group, these new two‐photon initiators display excellent performance so that the operating region is 5–75 mW in some cases.  相似文献

The synthesis, one‐ and two‐photon absorption (TPA) and emission properties of two novel 2,6‐anthracenevinylene‐based copolymers, poly[9,10‐bis(3,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy)phenyl)‐2,6‐anthracenevinylene‐alt‐N‐octyl‐3,6‐carbazolevinyl‐ene] ( P1 ) and poly[9,10‐bis(3,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy)phenyl)‐2,6‐anthracenevinyl‐ene‐alt‐N‐octyl‐2,7‐carbazolevinylene] ( P2 ) were reported. The as‐synthesized polymers have the number‐average molecular weights of 1.56 × 104 for P1 and 1.85 × 104 g mol?1 for P2 and are readily soluble in common organic solvents. They emit strong bluish‐green one‐ and two‐photon excitation fluorescence in dilute toluene solution (? P1 = 0.85, ? P2 = 0.78, λem( P1 ) = 491 nm, λem( P2 ) = 483 nm). The maximal TPA cross‐sections of P1 and P2 measured by the two‐photon‐induced fluorescence method using femtosecond laser pulses in toluene are 840 and 490 GM per repeating unit, respectively, which are obviously larger than that (210 GM) of poly[9,10‐bis‐(3,4‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy) phenyl)‐2,6‐anthracenevinylene], indicating that the poly(2,6‐anthracenevinylene) derivatives with large TPA cross‐sections can be obtained by inserting electron‐donating moieties into the polymer backbone. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
