Bond distances, vibrational frequencies, electron affinities, ionization potentials, and dissociation energies of the diatomic 5d transition metal (except La) monoxides and their positively and negatively charged ions were studied by use of density functional methods B3LYP, BLYP, B3PW91, BPW91, B3P86, BP86, MPW1PW91, PBE1PBE, and SVWN. Our calculation shows that for each individual species, the calculated properties are quite sensitive to the method used. Compared with hybrid density functional method B3PW91 (B3P86), pure density functional method BPW91 (BP86) gives longer bond distance (lower vibrational frequency) from HfO to PtO for neutral species, HfO+ to IrO+ for cationic species, and HfO to AuO for anionic species. While for B3LYP and BLYP, the trend was observed for cationic species from HfO+ to IrO+ and anionic species from HfO to AuO (except TaO), but not for neutrals. Pure density function methods BLYP, BPW91, and BP86 give larger dissociation energy compared with hybrid density functional methods B3LYP, B3PW91, and B3P86. SVWN in most cases gives the smallest bond distance, while BLYP gives the largest value. MPW1PW91 and PBE1PBE show the same performance in predicting the spectroscopic constants. In addition, useful empirical criteria that one has obtained the ground states of a species and its ions are the spin multiplicities of a neutral and its single charged ions which differs by ±1.  相似文献

For neutral species, pure density functional methods BLYP and BPW91 have relatively good performance in reproducing the experimental bond distance and vibrational frequency. For cations, hybrid exchange functional methods B3LYP and B3PW91 are good in predicting the dissociation energy. Eight kinds of density functionals named B3LYP, PBE1PBE, B1B95, BLYP, BP86, G96PW91, mPWPW91, and SVWN along with two different valence basis sets (LANL2DZ and CEP‐121g) are employed to study the transition‐metal dimers for the elements of group VIII. By comparing the equilibrium bond distances, vibrational frequencies, and dissociation energies of the ground state of these dimers with the available experimental values and theoretical data, we show that the “pure” DFT methods (G96PW91, BLYP, and BP86) with great‐gradient approximation always give better results relative to the hybrid HF/DFT schemes (B3LYP, PBE1PBE, and B1B95). The striking case found by us is that the G96PW91 functional, which is not tested in previous systemic studies, always predicts the dissociation energy to be well. The Ru2 and Os2 dimers are sensitive to not only the functionals employed but also the valence basis sets adopted. The natural bond orbital population is analyzed, and the molecular orbitals of the unpaired electrons are determined. Furthermore, our results indicate that the s and d orbitals of these dimers always hybridize with each other except for Rh2 and Pt2 molecules.  The electron affinities of Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu are computed using the density function theory and CCSD(T) approaches. Overall the CCSD(T) approach yields the best results. For this property, the B3LYP, BLYP, and BP86 functionals perform better than the BPW91, PBEPBE, and PBE1PBE ones. The accuracy of all the methods is higher if the number of 3delectrons is the same in the neutral atom and the anion. This is especially true for the density functional theory methods. The impact of basis set superposition error (BSSE) upon molecular properties determined using the density functionals B3LYP, B3PW91, B3P86, BLYP, BPW91, and BP86 in combination with the correlation consistent basis sets [cc-pVnZ, where n = D(2), T(3), Q(4), and 5] for a set of first-row closed-shell molecules has been examined. Correcting for BSSE enables the irregular convergence behavior in molecular properties such as dissociation energies with respect to increasing basis set size, noted in earlier studies, to be improved. However, for some molecules and functional combinations, BSSE correction alone does not improve the irregular convergence behavior.  相似文献

采用密度泛函理论结合对称性破损态方法(DFT-BS),以双亚甲胺席夫碱为配体的双核吲哚铜配合物[Cu2L(AZ)(DMSO)](L=双甲亚胺三阴离子,由1-苯基-3-甲基-4-甲酰吡唑和1,3-二氨-2-丙醇衍生而成;AZ=7-氮杂吲哚阴离子)作为研究对象,通过与实验数据相比较,讨论了在不同密度泛函方法与基组对金属铜配物交换耦合常数的影响.结果表明,4种混合密度泛函方法(B3PW91,B3LYP,B3P86和PBE)及3种单一密度泛函(BPW91,BLYP和BP86)的计算结果都与实验值106cm-1有着相同的符号,但使用单一密度泛函所得到的结果与实验值比较接近.不论是混合密度泛函还是单一密度泛函计算所得到的耦合常数Jab对基组都有很大的依赖性,且BLYP/LANL2DZ水平下计算所得结果与实验数据吻合程度最好.研究表明,铁磁性配合物[Cu2L(AZ)(DMSO)]中存在着自旋离域和自旋极化效应.  相似文献

Reaction energies were determined for reductive ring-opening reactions of Li+-coordinated ethylene carbonate (EC) and vinylene carbonate (VC) by using various density functional theory (DFT) and ab-initio methods applying the basis sets up to Dunnings aug-cc-pVQZ. The methods examined include the local density functional (SVWN), the pure gradient-corrected density functionals (BLYP and BPW91), and the hybrid density functionals (B3LYP, B1LYP, B3PW91, and mPW1PW91). Comparison of the DFT results with ab-initio results indicates that the mPW1PW91 approach introduced by Adamo and Barone, is superior to all the other DFT methods (including B3LYP). The performance of more cost-effective Pople-type basis sets ranging from 6-31G(d,p) to 6-311++G(3df,3pd) was assessed at DFT levels of theory by calibrating them with the aug-cc-pVQZ results  相似文献

Intermolecular interactions between a prototypical transition metal hydride WH(CO)2NO(PH3)2 and a small proton donor H2O have been studied using DFT methodology. The hydride, nitrosyl and carbonyl ligand have been considered as site of protonation. Further, DFT-D calculations in which empirical corrections for the dispersion energy are included, have been carried out. A variety of pure and hybrid density functionals (BP86, PW91, PBE, BLYP, OLYP, B3LYP, B1PW91, PBE0, X3LYP) have been considered, and our calculations indicate the PBE functional and its hybrid variation are well suited for the calculation of transition metal hydride hydrogen and dihydrogen bonding. Dispersive interactions make up for a sizeable portion of the intermolecular interaction, and amount to 20–30% of the bond energy and to 30–40% of the bond enthalpy. An energy decomposition analysis reveals that the H?H bond of transition metal hydrides contains both covalent and electrostatic contributions.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) using SVWN5, B3LYP, B3P86, O3LYP, B3PW91, B1LYP, B971, MPW1PW91, PBE1PBE, BHandH, and BHandHLYP density functionals was employed to study the structural characteristics of the Y(H2O) 8 3+ yttrium aqua ion. The nonlocal hybrid GGA functionals show worse predictive ability in structural calculations of the Y(H2O) 8 3+ aqua ion compared to the relatively simple combined functional BHandH and to the simplest SVWN5 functional in LSDA theory.  相似文献

Calculated harmonic vibrational frequencies systematically deviate from experimental vibrational frequencies. The observed deviation can be corrected by applying a scale factor. Scale factors for: (i) harmonic vibrational frequencies [categorized into low (<1000 cm?1) and high (>1000 cm?1)], (ii) vibrational contributions to enthalpy and entropy, and (iii) zero‐point vibrational energies (ZPVEs) have been determined for widely used density functionals in combination with polarization consistent basis sets (pc‐n, n = 0,1,2,3,4). The density functionals include pure functionals (BP86, BPW91, BLYP, HCTH93, PBEPBE), hybrid functionals with Hartree‐Fock exchange (B3LYP, B3P86, B3PW91, PBE1PBE, mPW1K, BH&HLYP), hybrid meta functionals with the kinetic energy density gradient (M05, M06, M05‐2X, M06‐2X), a double hybrid functional with Møller‐Plesset correlation (B2GP‐PLYP), and a dispersion corrected functional (B97‐D). The experimental frequencies for calibration were from 41 organic molecules and the ZPVEs for comparison were from 24 small molecules (diatomics, triatomics). For this family of basis sets, the scale factors for each property are more dependent on the functional selection than on basis set level, and thus allow for a suggested scale factor for each density functional when employing polarization consistent basis sets (pc‐n, n = 1,2,3,4). A separate scale factor is recommended when the un‐polarized basis set, pc‐0, is used in combination with the density functionals. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

This article investigates the performance of five commonly used density functionals, B3LYP, BP86, PBE0, PBE, and BLYP, for studying diatomic molecules consisting of a first row transition metal bonded to H, F, Cl, Br, N, C, O, or S. Results have been compared with experiment wherever possible. Open-shell configurations are found more often in the order PBE0>B3LYP>PBE approximately BP86>BLYP. However, on average, 58 of 63 spins are correctly predicted by any functional, with only small differences. BP86 and PBE are slightly better for obtaining geometries, with errors of only 0.020 A. Hybrid functionals tend to overestimate bond lengths by a few picometers and underestimate bond strengths by favoring open shells. Nonhybrid functionals usually overestimate bond energies. All functionals exhibit similar errors in bond energies, between 42 and 53 kJmol. Late transition metals are found to be better modeled by hybrid functionals, whereas nonhybrid functionals tend to have less of a preference. There are systematic errors in predicting certain properties that could be remedied. BLYP performs the best for ionization potentials studied here, PBE0 the worst. In other cases, errors are similar. Finally, there is a clear tendency for hybrid functionals to give larger dipole moments than nonhybrid functionals. These observations may be helpful in choosing and improving existing functionals for tasks involving transition metals, and for designing new, improved functionals.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) levels are employed to calculate the vibrational frequencies and geometrical data of β-diketones. We evaluate the relative performance of the different levels by comparing theoretical results to experimental values. The applied DFT levels in this work are B3LYP, BLYP, B3P86, B3PW91, BPW91, G96LYP, BP86, and G96PW91 with the standard 6-31G, 6-31G*, 6-31G**, 6-31+G**, 6-31++G**, 6-311G**, 6-311++G** basis sets. The performance of different conventional ab initio methodologies and density functional procedures is compared through its application to the theoretical calculation of the bond distance and harmonic vibrational frequencies of the OsO4 molecule. The problem of the basis set is first considered, with up to nine different basis sets being tested in calculations using the hybrid Becke3LYP density functional, and the most appropriate basis set is used in the comparison of Hartree–Fock, post‐Hartree–Fock, and density functional methods. The post‐Hartree–Fock methods analyzed are MP2, CISD, and CCSD(T), and the density functionals tested are SVWN, BLYP, BPW91, and Becke3LYP. The results show that for this particular system density functional methods perform better than do HF‐based methods with the exception of CCSD(T), which gives the best overall results. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Scale factors for (a) low (<1000 cm(-1)) and high harmonic vibrational frequencies, (b) thermal contributions to enthalpy and entropy, and (c) zero-point vibrational energies have been determined for five hybrid functionals (B3P86, B3PW91, PBE1PBE, BH&HLYP, MPW1K), five pure functionals (BLYP, BPW91, PBEPBE, HCTH93, and BP86), four hybrid meta functionals (M05, M05-2X, M06, and M06-2X) and one double-hybrid functional (B2GP-PLYP) in combination with the correlation consistent basis sets [cc-pVnZ and aug-cc-pVnZ, n = D(2),T(3),Q(4)]. Calculations for vibrational frequencies were carried out on 41 organic molecules and an additional set of 22 small molecules was used for the zero-point vibrational energy scale factors. Before scaling, approximately 25% of the calculated frequencies were within 3% of experimental frequencies. Upon application of the derived scale factors, nearly 90% of the calculated frequencies deviated less than 3% from the experimental frequencies for all of the functionals when the augmented correlation consistent basis sets were used.  相似文献

We show that the energetics and electronic couplings for excess electron transfer (EET) can be accurately estimated by using unoccupied Kohn-Sham orbitals (UKSO) calculated for neutral pi stacks. To assess the performance of different DFT functionals, we use MS-PT2 results for seven pi stacks of nucleobases as reference data. The DFT calculations are carried out by using the local spin density approximation SVWN, two generalized gradient approximation functionals BP86 and BLYP, and two hybrid functionals B3LYP and BH&HLYP. Best estimations within the UKSO approach are obtained by the B3LYP and SVWN methods. TD DFT calculations provide less accurate values of the EET parameters as compared with the UKSO data. Also, the excess charge distribution in the radical anions is well described by the LUMOs of neutral systems. In contrast, spin-unrestricted DFT calculations of radical anions considerably overestimate delocalization of the excess electron. The excellent results obtained for the ground and excited states of the radical anions (excitation energy, transition dipole moment, electronic coupling, and excess electron distribution) by using UKSO of neutral dimers suggest an efficient strategy to calculate the EET parameters for DNA pi stacks.  相似文献

用多种密度泛函理论(DFT)方法(BLYP/6-31G^*^*,B3LYP/6-31G^*^*,B3PW91/6-31G^*^*和SVWN/6-31G^*^*)对吲哚分子的平衡几何构型进行了优化。在优化构型的基础上计算了吲哚分子的谐力场、振动基频和红外光谱强度。计算得到的振动频率与实验值比较平均偏差对四种计算方法(BLYP/6-31G^*^*,P3LYP/6-31G^*^*,B3PW91/6-31G^*^*和SVWN/6-31G^*^*)分别为16.3,40.5,45.1和26.4cm^-^1。BLYP/6-31G^*^*理论力场被用于吲哚分子的简正坐标分析计算中。根据振动率的势能分布(PEDs)对此分子的振动基频进行了理论归属。  相似文献
