The biodegradable poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) microcapsules and the analyzing of form and features for the manufacturing conditions were investigated in a prospective drug delivery systems (DDS) through drug release. The effects of emulsifier, emulsifier concentration, and stirring rate on the diameter and form of the microcapsules were examined using image analyzer (IA) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The role of interfacial adhesion between PCL/PEO and drug was determined by contact angle measurements, and the drug release rate of the microcapsules was characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy. As a result, the microcapsules were made in spherical forms with a mean particle size of 170 nm approximately 68 microm. And the work of adhesion between water and PCL/PEO was increased with increasing the PEO content, which is due to higher hydrophilicity of PEO. The drug release rate of the microcapsules was significantly increased as the PEO content increased, which could be attributed to the increasing of the hydrophilic groups or the degree of adhesion at the interfaces.  相似文献

Vulcanized fluorosilicone rubber for aviation was treated by argon and oxygen cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) in order to modify its hydrophilic properties. The sample's chemical composition was analyzed by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The static contact angle, surface free energy, and adhesion strength were used to indicate the hydrophilic properties. Additionally, the surface morphologies of the specimens were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results showed that the contact angle declined from 101.5° to 22°, and the surface energy rose from 21.3 to 71.2 mJ/m2 after they were treated by argon plasma. Alternatively, the water contact angle decreased to 25.5°, and the surface energy increased to 70.6 mJ/m2 after they were treated by oxygen plasma. In addition, the SEM and AFM images of the samples illustrate that the treated surface of fluorosilicone rubber becomes rougher than the non‐treated surface. The concentrations of carbon (C) and fluorine (F) elements of the material' surface decreased and the contents of O element greatly enriched after plasma treatment. Additionally, chemical group C―O and C―OH appeared after the treatment. However, the hydrophilic effect of the plasma treatment is aged after the specimens were stored for 8–12 h. In this work, the producing of a biodegradable poly(l-lactide) (PLA)/poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) microcapsule by emulsion solvent evaporation method was investigated. The effect of PEG segments added to the PLA microcapsules on the degradation, size distribution, and release behavior was studied. According to the results, PLA/PEG copolymer was more hydrophilic than PLA homopolymer, and with lower glass transition temperature. The surface of PLA/PEG microcapsules was not as smooth as that of PLA microcapsules, the mean diameters of prepared PLA and PLA/PEG microcapsules were 40 and 57 microm, respectively. And spherical forms were observed by the image analyzer and the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Drug release from microcapsules was affected by the properties of PLA/PEG copolymers determined by UV-vis spectra. It was found that the drug release rates of the microcapsules were significantly increased with adding of PEG, which explained by increasing hydrophilic groups.  相似文献

In this work, the biodegradable poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL)/poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) microcapsules were prepared in the presence of SiO(2) and fragrant oil using emulsion solvent evaporation method. And SiO(2) was chemically treated in 30 wt.% hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. The effect of chemical treatment on SiO(2) surfaces was studied in terms of pH, acid-base value, and N(2)/77 K gas adsorption. Image analyzer and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to observe the shape and surface change of the prepared microcapsules. And the variation of surface free energy of microcapsules was characterized by contact angles. The results showed that the average diameter, surface free energy, and fragrant oil release rate of microcapsules were increased with increasing the PEG ratio. Also, it was found that in the case of basic treated SiO(2), the fragrant oil adsorption capacity and release rate were decreased due to the decrease of specific surface area or the increase of acid-base interactions between basic SiO(2) and acidic fragrant oil.  相似文献

Material surface properties of polymers, plastics, ceramics and textiles can be modified by atmospheric or low‐pressure glow discharge plasma. The aim of the present work is to study the surface modification of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film in order to improve its hydrophilic and wetting properties. In this article we used low‐pressure, low‐temperature oxygen plasma for the surface treatment of BOPP. Scanning electron microscopy indicates that plasma treatment causes mainly physical changes by creating microcraters and roughness on the surface and increasing surface friction. Attenuated total reflectance infrared spectra show oxygen‐containing groups such as ? OH at 3513 cm?1 and C?O at 1695 cm?1. Microscopic investigations of water droplets on BOPP (treated, untreated) show that the interfacial adhesion of treated surfaces is increased. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The surface characteristics of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) were modified by argon, air, and oxygen plasma at atmospheric pressure. The surface energies of the EVA were evaluated by contact angles according to a sessile-drop method and adhesion energy (G(IC)) was estimated by a 180 degrees peel test with polyurethane (PU). After the plasma treatments, the surface free energies (or specific polar component) of the EVA increased about five times compared to that of virgin EVA. The adhesion between the EVA and the PU is significantly improved by the plasma treatment. Especially, Ar/air/O(2) plasma treatment increases G(IC) of EVA/PU up to about 600% compared to that of the sample using virgin EVA.  相似文献

In this work, the effect of atmospheric-pressure plasma treatments on surface properties of polyimide film are investigated in terms of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), contact angles, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The adhesion characteristics of the film are also studied in the peel strengths of polyimide/copper film. As experimental results, the polyimide surfaces treated by plasma lead to an increase of oxygen-containing functional groups or the polar component of the surface free energy, resulting in improving the adhesion characteristics of the polyimide/copper foil. Also, the roughness of the film surfaces, confirmed by AFM observation, is largely increased. These results can be explained by the fact that the atmospheric-pressure plasma treatment of polyimide surface yields several oxygen complexes in hydrophobic surfaces, which can play an important role in increasing the surface polarity, wettability, and the adhesion characteristics of the polyimide/copper system.  相似文献

In this work, the effects of oxygen plasma surface modification have been studied on electrospun polyether-based polyurethane in order to investigate the imposed limitations and possibilities to improve surface characteristics on fibrous assemblies. The evolution of induced changes in surface morphology, chemistry and wettability by the plasma treatment has been characterised for increasing plasma exposure time using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and water contact angle measurements. Significant reduction in fibre diameter concomitant with progressing rough surface textures are found on the fibres in surface layers during early treatment phases while extended exposure eventually causes the fibre structure to deteriorate. Surface oxygen content and functionalities such as carbonyl and carboxyl increase slightly with longer treatments until loss of material integrity occurs. The results have also shown that oxygen plasma rapidly alters the initially strong hydrophobic character of the non-woven fibres to hydrophilic behaviour, allowing water penetration into the network, but without significant changes for increased exposure time. In addition, the response of red blood cell shape to pristine and oxygen plasma treated fibres were found to be similar. In both cases, a population of cells having fibre contact displayed protrusions while measurements showed that the cell function remain intact and indicated that the adhesion was non-specific. The reported findings yield useful process knowledge that can support the formation of well-defined fibre architectures and are valuable in the designs of electrospun polyurethane material systems utilising oxygen plasma surface modification.  相似文献

Ex situ determinations of free radicals by 2,2-Diphenyl-1-pricylhydrazyl (DPPH) method and of peroxides by the iodine method applied to plasma treated surfaces were examined. Plasma polymers and plasma-treated polymers, which are already exposed to ambient oxygen, the original free radicals could be detected as peroxides. It was found that the specificity of the both methods was not high enough for quantitative determination. Chemical cleaning of aluminum alloy surfaces, such as alkaline cleaning and deoxidizing treatment, was found to leave large amount of DPPH scavengers, which could be removed by argon or oxygen plasma treatment, implying that the reactivity of DPPH is not exclusive to free radicals. DPPH method should be viewed as an analytical tool to detect scavengers of DPPH (rather than free radicals) existing on the surface region accessible to the DPPH solution. The iodine method should be likewise viewed as an analytical tool for iodine-liberating species existing on the surface region. Plasma treatment (O2 or Ar) of aluminum surface did not remove the species, and in some cases increased the amount. The both methods could be used as tools to assess the overall surface reactivity, particularly of metals, which could influence the adhesion of coatings.  相似文献

In this work, porous poly(ɛ-caprolactone) (PCL)/Eudragit RS 100 (ERS-100) microcapsules containing tulobuterol base as a model drug were prepared by a solvent evaporation method and the effect of the quaternary ammonium groups of ERS-100 on the release behaviors of the microcapsules was investigated. The microcapsules prepared with PCL alone showed a stable and smooth surface, whereas porous microcapsules were formed with the addition of ERS-100. Drug loading and encapsulation efficiency of the microcapsules were slightly decreased with an increase of ERS-100 content, resulting from an increase in the porosity of the microcapsules. In an acidic release medium, PCL microcapsules showed slow drug release, whereas PCL/ERS-100 microcapsules showed a faster release rate with an increasing ERS-100 content. These behaviors are likely due to an increase in the diffusion rate of the drugs stemming from an increased hydration of the microcapsules, which results from the interaction between the carboxyl group of the release medium and the quaternary ammonium group of ERS-100.  相似文献

The effects of flame treatment of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) on the work of adhesion (W) and energy release rate (G) were assessed by a custom-built adhesion testing device (ATD). The contact area and the vertical displacement between planar LDPE films and PDMS lenses (untreated and UV/ozone treated) were varied as a function of the applied load, P. The adhesion and pull-off forces between the extracted PDMS lenses and the LDPE films were studied as a function of the duration of the flame treatment expressed in treatment numbers. A fracture mechanics approach was used to relate the applied load and the radius of the contact area to the energy release rate (G). The difference between the energy release rate and the thermodynamic work of adhesion, defined as the adhesion hysteresis (G - W), increased systematically with increasing treatment numbers for both lens types. In addition, the adhesion hysteresis appeared to be dependent on the contact time. Finally, the origin of the adhesion hysteresis was discussed. It was concluded that bonding by surface functional groups may be the dominating mechanisms for the changes in the observed hysteresis.  相似文献

Continuous atmospheric plasma oxidation (APO) was used to introduce oxygen functionalities to the surface of carbon fibres in an attempt to enhance interfacial adhesion between carbon fibres and polyamide-12 (PA-12). APO only affects the surface properties of the fibres while their bulk properties remained unchanged. Contact angle and ζ-potential measurements demonstrated that APO-treated fibres became significantly more hydrophilic due to the introduction of polar oxygen-containing groups on the fibre surface, which also resulted in an increase of surface energy on the carbon fibres. The interfacial shear strength of single carbon fibre/PA-12 model composites, determined by single fibre fragmentation tests, showed an increase from 40 to 83 MPa with up to 4 min of APO treatment time which confirms that the fibre/matrix interfacial adhesion was enhanced. This highlights that the incorporation of APO into composite manufacturing will allow tailoring of the fibre/matrix interface.  相似文献

Hollow polymer microparticles with a single opening on the surface were formed by freeze-drying aqueous polymer colloids swollen with solvent. The results show that the particle morphology is due to phase separation in the polymer emulsion droplets upon freezing in liquid nitrogen, and that morphological changes are driven largely by lowering interfacial free energy. The effects of added surfactant, volume fraction of solvent, type of solvent, and processing conditions on the particle morphology were examined and compared to theoretical predictions. The dried hollow particles were resuspended in a dispersing media and exposed to a second swelling solvent to close the surface opening and form microcapsules. The interfacial free energy difference between the inside and outside surfaces is the driving force for closing the hole on the surface. The emulsification/freeze-drying technique can be used to encapsulate hydrophilic additives in the core of the microcapsules, demonstrating the potential of the technique in controlled-release applications.  相似文献

In this study, first the acrylonitrile‐butadiene rubber (NBR5080) was modified by argon (Ar), air, and oxygen plasma at low temperature, and the effect of plasma process (power, time, and pressure) on the surface properties of NBR5080, the interfacial properties, physical properties, and the mechanical properties of NBR5080/polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composites were investigated. The state contact angle and the surface free energy were applied to characterize the surface wettability of NBR5080. The scanning electron microscope and the atomic force microscope were used to observe the surface morphology of the NBR5080. The chemical changes on the NBR5080 surface were verified by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The average water contact angle the NBR5080 declined obviously when NBR5080 was treated by Ar (100 W/600 s/30 Pa). The active oxygen groups were introduced onto the surface of NBR5080 by cold plasma treatment and more active group containing oxygen were observed on the samples treated by Ar plasma. The peel strength between the NBR5080 and the PTFE was increased obviously, which increased from 0 to 44.2 N?m?1 for Ar plasma treatment. The mass and the dimension of NBR5080 increase sharply after immersing in kerosene, whereas the NBR5080/PTFE composites changed a little. The mechanical properties of NBR5080 and NBR5080/PTFE composites decreased as the immersion time in kerosene increased, but the decreased degree of NBR5080 is higher than NBR5080/PTFE composites.  相似文献

Understanding the effect of reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as singlet oxygen molecule and atomic oxygen, on polyimide (PI) film properties, such as wettability, morphology, and chemical bonding state, is essential for further development of PI‐based surfaces. We investigated the effect of different ROS generated during ultraviolet (UV) and plasma treatment in oxygen gas on surface modification of Kapton PI. Different surface modification techniques, UV and plasma treatment, are known to generate different ROS. In this work, we demonstrate the effect of different ROS on PI surface modification. From the diagnostics of ROS by means of electron spin resonance and optical emission spectroscopy, we confirmed that during UV treatment, excited singlet oxygen molecules are the main ROS, while plasma treatment mainly generated atomic oxygen. The wettability of PI surface treated by UV and plasma resulted in hydrophilic PI surfaces. XPS results show that the wettability of PI samples is mainly determined by their surface O/C ratio. However, chemical bonding states were different: while UV treatment tended to generate C=O bonds, while plasma treatment tended to generate both C―O and C=O bonds. Singlet oxygen molecules are concluded to be the main oxidant during UV treatment, and their main reaction with PI was concluded to be of the addition type, leading to an increase of C=O groups on the surface of PI film. Meanwhile, atomic oxygen species were the main oxidant during plasma treatment, reacting with the PI surface through both etching and addition reaction, resulting in a wider variety of bonds, including both C―O and C=O groups.  相似文献

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to analyze rectangular 3‐dimensional patterned microstructures with different functionalities induced on copolyimide containing alicyclic sequences film surfaces by means of oxygen plasma treatment. The plasma power was ranged to be big enough to accelerate the plasma species towards the copolyimide surface, and the exposure time was not very small to generate a roughness that still can be monitored by AFM. To create the rectangular pattern, transmission electron microscopy grid masks were placed on the samples before treatment. Plasma‐induced micropatterning with alternating hydrophilic and hydrophobic surface chemistries was evaluated by measuring the adhesion forces between the gold‐covered AFM tip and the copolyimide surfaces. To fabricate 3‐dimensional metallic microstructures arranged in well‐defined areas, thin metal layers were sputtered on these pretreated copolyimide films. The AFM morphological aspects of the obtained metallic structures were correlated with the surface modifications induced by plasma treatment conditions. Functional indexes and functional volume parameters were also calculate to characterize the functional behavior of the surface, such as wear, lubrication, and contact. The AFM data were compared with those obtained using the small‐angle X‐ray scattering measurements.  相似文献

Surface modification of biomaterials is a way to tailor cell responses whilst retaining the bulk properties. In this work, chitosan membranes were prepared by solvent casting and treated with nitrogen or argon plasma at 20 W for 10-40 min. AFM indicated an increase in the surface roughness as a result of the ongoing etching process. XPS and contact angle measurements showed different surface elemental compositions and higher surface free energy. The MTS test and direct contact assays with an L929 fibroblast cell line indicated that the plasma treatment improved the cell adhesion and proliferation. Overall, the results demonstrated that such plasma treatments could significantly improve the biocompatibility of chitosan membranes and thus improve their potential in wound dressings and tissue engineering applications.  相似文献

The main challenges in the manufacture of composite materials are low surface energy and the presence of silicon‐containing contaminants, both of which greatly reduce surface adhesive strength. In this study, carbon fiber (CF) and E‐glass epoxy resin composites were surface treated with the Accelerated Thermo‐molecular adhesion Process (ATmaP). ATmaP is a multiaction surface treatment process where tailored nitrogen and oxygen functionalities are generated on the surface of the sample through the vaporization and atomization of n‐methylpyrrolidone solution, injected via specially designed flame‐treatment equipment. The treated surfaces of the polymer composites were analyzed using XPS, time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF‐SIMS), contact angle (CA) analysis and direct adhesion measurements. ATmaP treatment increased the surface concentration of polar functional groups while reducing surface contamination, resulting in increased adhesion strength. XPS and ToF‐SIMS showed a significant decrease in silicon‐containing species on the surface after ATmaP treatment. E‐glass composite showed higher adhesion strength than CF composite, correlating with higher surface energy, higher concentrations of nitrogen and C?O functional groups (from XPS) and higher concentrations of oxygen and nitrogen‐containing functional groups (particularly C2H3O+ and C2H5NO+ molecular ions, from ToF‐SIMS). Surface inactivation is a phenomenon that causes poor adhesion. A wood surface exposed to contaminants such as dust or atmospheric grime can experience surface inactivation. Inactivation mechanisms can reduce the attractive forces on the wood surface and lead to a decrease in wettability. Plasma treatment has been applied to recover inactivated wood surfaces for better adhesion and bonding. Plasma treatment technology is very simple and the cost is rather low. In addition, this treatment produces no environmental pollution. In this study, low pressure plasma treatment was applied to reactivate the surfaces of spruce wood for glue bonding and to increase wettability after a 9-year period of natural surface inactivation. Changes in contact angles, surface energy, surface colour and bonding strength of inactivated and oxygen plasma treated wood surfaces were studied. Wettability, bonding and other mechanical strength properties of plywood panels increased with the oxygen plasma treatment.  相似文献
