A fine structure of the optical absorption spectrum of antiferromagnetic NaMnCl3 was measured around 23800 cm–1 at temperatures in the range 1.8–50 K in magnetic fields up to 200 kOe. The fact that the intralayer ferromagnetic interaction in the crystal possessing a layered magnetic structure is stronger than the interlayer antiferromagnetic interaction leads to the formation of intensive hot exciton-magnon absorption bands. The special features of the exciton-magnon band structure in the crystal are connected with the special features of magnon dispersion and density of exciton-magnon states.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 10, pp. 23–28, October, 2004.  相似文献

The physical and structural properties of Fe1.11Te and Fe1.11Te0.5Se0.5 have been investigated by means of X-ray and neutron diffraction as well as physical property measurements. For the Fe1.11Te compound, the structure distortion from a tetragonal to monoclinic phase takes place at 64 K accompanied with the onset of antiferromagnetic order upon cooling. The magnetic structure of the monoclinic phase was confirmed to be of antiferromagnetic configuration with a propagation vector k = (1/2, 0, 1/2) based on Rietveld refinement of neutron powder diffraction data. The structural/magnetic transitions are also clearly visible in magnetic, electronic and thermodynamic measurements. For superconducting Fe1.11Te0.5Se0.5 compound, the superconducting transition with T c = 13.4 K is observed in the resistivity and ac susceptibility measurements. The upper critical field H c2 is obtained by measuring the resistivity under different magnetic fields. The Kim’s critical state model is adopted to analyze the temperature dependence of the ac susceptibility and the intergranular critical current density is calculated as a function of both field amplitude and temperature. Neutron diffraction results show that Fe1.11Te0.5Se0.5 crystalizes in tetragonal structure at 300 K as in the parent compound Fe1.11Te and no structural distortion is detected upon cooling to 2 K. However an anisotropic thermal expansion anomaly is observed around 100 K.  相似文献

The magnon dispersion curves in the antiferromagnetic phase and the acoustic phonon dispersion in the paramagnetic phase of CeMg compound have been investigated. The magnetic moment and the tetragonal distortion are measured versus temperature. Their variations are consistent with the occurrence of a highly magnetostrictive first-order transition at TN = 19.5 K. Transverse magnetic excitations associated to transitions between two sublevels of the Г8 crystal field ground state were measured along the main lines of the Brillouin zone. There is a large anisotropy of the dispersion depending whether the wavevector is parallel or perpendicular to the fourfold axis of the tetragonal cell. This dispersion can be well described by means of a dynamical susceptibility model in which only a few interactions occur.  相似文献

We studied the optical properties of antiferromagnetic ZnCr2Se4 by infrared spectroscopy up to 28,000 cm-1 and for temperatures from 5 to 295 K. At the magnetic phase transition at 21 K, one of the four phonon modes reveals a clear splitting of 3 cm-1 as a result of spin-phonon coupling, the other three optical eigenmodes only show shifts of the eigenfrequencies. The antiferromagnetic ordering and the concomitant splitting of the phonon mode can be suppressed in a magnetic field of 7 T. At higher energies we observed a broad excitation band which is dominated by a two-peak-structure at about 18,000 cm-1 and 22,000 cm-1, respectively. These energies are in good agreement with the expected spin-allowed crystal-field transitions of the Cr3+ ions. The unexpected strength of these transitions with d-d character is attributed to a considerable hybridization of the selenium p with the chromium d orbitals.  相似文献

The 152Sm0.37Sr0.63MnO3 manganite is investigated using neutron diffraction. The parameters of the crystal and magnetic structures of the manganite are determined. The diffraction data are compared with the transport and magnetic characteristics of this compound. A comparison is performed between the 152Sm0.37Sr0.63MnO3 and 152Sm0.45Sr0.55MnO3 manganites. Although these compounds differ insignificantly in the strontium doping level, are homogeneous antiferromagnets, and do not exhibit a colossal negative magnetoresistance, they have different crystal symmetries (tetragonal I4/mcm and orthorhombic Pnma), differ in the type of spin ordering (C-type antiferromagnetic and A-type antiferromagnetic ordering), are characterized by different orbital polarizations (\(d_{3z^2 - r^2 } \) and \(d_{x^2 - y^2 } \)), and possess one-and two-dimensional magnetic and transport properties, respectively. The critical concentration range in which samarium strontium manganites undergo a concentration structural transition from the orthorhombic to tetragonal crystal symmetry with a change in the type of orbital and magnetic order is revealed.  相似文献

The tetragonal compound UNi2Si2 exhibits in zero magnetic field three different antiferromagnetic phases belowT N =124 K. They are formed by ferromagnetic basal planes, which are antiferromagnetically coupled along thec-axis with the propagation vectorq=(0, 0, q z ). Two additional order-order magnetic phase transitions are observed below T N , namely atT 1=108 K and T 2=40 K in zero magnetic field. All three phases exhibit strong uniaxial anisotropy confining the U moments to a direction parallel to the c-axis. UNi2Si2 single crystals were studied in detail by measuring bulk thermodynamic properties, such as thermal expansion, resistivity, susceptibility, and specific heat. A microscopic study using neutron diffraction was performed in magnetic fields up to 14.5 T parallel to the c-axis, and a complex magnetic phase diagram has been determined. Here, we present the analysis of specific-heat data measured in magnetic fields up to 14 T compared with the results of the neutron-diffraction study and with other thermodynamic properties of UNi2Si2.  相似文献

Data on the antiferromagnetic ordering in orthorhombic lithium manganite LiMnO2 are obtained from magnetic-susceptibility, calorimetry, and nuclear magnetic resonance studies. The minimal hysteresis and the absence of jumps in the temperature dependences of the sublattice magnetization M(T) and the magnetic susceptibility near T N indicate that the ordering occurs through a continuous second-order phase transition. Within the critical temperature range, the M(T?T N) variation is satisfactorily described by a power-law dependence with a critical exponent β = 0.25(4), which is substantially smaller than that predicted for 3D magnetic systems with isotropic Heisenberg exchange. The band structure of orthorhombic LiMnO2 is calculated using the LMTO-ASA method. Taking into account the spin states of manganese ions, an adequate pattern is obtained for the density-of-states distribution with an energy gap near the Fermi level (~0.7 eV), which is in agreement with the measured electrical parameters of lithium manganite. The calculations demonstrate that the exchange interactions between Mn3+ ions leading to antiferromagnetic ordering are significantly anisotropic. It is found that small paramagnetic regions persist in the manganite below the Néel temperature, and it is concluded that the reason for this is partial structural disordering of LiMnO2. As a result, a certain fraction of the manganese positions is occupied by lithium ions (LiMn) and vise versa (MnLi). These defects are not involved in the formation of the ordered magnetic structure and compose a paramagnetic fraction.  相似文献

The surface of SrFe12O19 coated with a CoO layer reveals a strong exchange bias characterized by magnetic hysteresis loops. The low-temperature coercivity, HC, and the squareness, MR/MS, of a permanent magnet of SrFe12O19/CoO powder prepared by the sol–gel method are enhanced after field cooling through the Néel temperature (TN=290 K) when compared to those after zero-field cooling. The existence of loop shifts and the enhancement of HC indicate that exchange-bias effects, which are induced by the ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic (FM/AFM) exchange-coupling interactions, are responsible for these behaviors. According to our experimental results, some of the factors controlling the exchange bias, such as FM/AFM interfaces and the CoO amount of the antiferromagnetic layer, are discussed. The ultrafast laser-excited magnetization dynamics of ferromagnetic (FM) La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) thin films with BiFeO3 (BFO) coating layers grown by laser molecular beam epitaxy are investigated using the optical pump-probe technique. Uniform magnetization precessions are observed in the films under an applied external magnetic field by measuring the time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect. The magnetization precession frequencies of the LSMO thin films with the BFO coating layers are lower than those of uncoated LSMO films, which is attributed to the suppression of the anisotropy field induced by the exchange interaction at the interface between the antiferromagnetic order of BFO and the FM order of LSMO.  相似文献

The evolution of optical absorption in a two-dimensional antiferromagnet is investigated in the range of the transition 6A1g4A1g, 4E g (4G) observed in manganese ions in an external magnetic field inducing noncollinearity of the magnetic structure. It is revealed that hot and cold satellites of the exciton-magnon bands appear in the optical absorption spectrum and then increase in intensity. The shapes of the magnon satellite bands corresponding to a two-dimensional magnetic structure are calculated. It is demonstrated that magnons at the inner points of the Brillouin zone appreciably contribute to the absorption. The zero-point magnetic oscillations play a decisive role in the absorption associated with the magnon decay at low temperatures.  相似文献

The dependences of the antiferromagnetic resonance frequencies on the constant magnetic field H and constant electric field E are calculated for a KNiPO4 crystal with spontaneous electric polarization and antiferromagnetic order. It is demonstrated that the KNiPO4 crystal is characterized by an exchange-enhanced effect of the electric field E on the antiferromagnetic resonance frequencies. This effect is not revealed in the magnetoelectric materials studied earlier. It is established that oscillations of both magnetization and electric polarization exhibit resonance response at antiferromagnetic resonance frequencies. The expressions for these responses in alternating magnetic and electric fields are presented.  相似文献

Measurements of magnetic and transport properties were performed on needle-shaped single crystals of Ce12Fe57.5As41 and La12Fe57.5As41. The availability of a complete set of data enabled a side-by-side comparison between these two rare earth compounds. Both compounds exhibited multiple magnetic orders within 2–300 K and metamagnetic transitions at various fields. Ferromagnetic transitions with Curie temperatures of 100 and 125 K were found for Ce12Fe57.5As41 and La12Fe57.5As41, respectively, followed by antiferromagnetic type spin reorientations near Curie temperatures. The magnetic properties underwent complex evolution in the magnetic field for both compounds. An antiferromagnetic phase transition at about 60 K and 0.2 T was observed merely for Ce12Fe57.5As41. The field-induced magnetic phase transition occurred from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic structure. A strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy was evident from magnetization measurements of Ce12Fe57.5As41. A temperature-field phase diagram was present for these two rare earth systems. In addition, a logarithmic temperature dependence of electrical resistivity was observed in the two compounds within a large temperature range of 150–300 K, which is rarely found in 3D-based compounds. It may be related to Kondo scattering described by independent localized Fe 3d moments interacting with conduction electrons.  相似文献

By neutron diffraction and susceptibility measurements the crystallographic and magnetic structures of (CH3NH3)2MnCl4 and (CD3ND3)2MnCl4 have been investigated. These compounds belong to a system of quasi two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnets. At 96K a structural first order phase transition from the tetragonal high-temperature structure to an orthorhombic low-temperature structure was found. A magnetic phase transition from a two-dimensional antiferromagnetic preorder to a three-dimensional magnetic order occurs at 44.5K. The three-dimensional magnetic structure is characterized by antiferromagnetic (MnCl4)2- — layers perpendicular to the c-axis, with a ferromagnetic coupling between interacting next nearest (MnCl4)2- layers. The magnetic moments of the Mn-ions lie in the antiferromagnetic planes.  相似文献

The field and temperature dependences of magnetization and the temperature dependences of the initial magnetic susceptibility have been theoretically studied for three crystallographic directions in a trigonal NdFe3(BO3)4 antiferromagnetic crystal. The calculations were performed using a molecular field approximation and a crystal field model for the rare-earth subsystem. The obtained theoretical expressions are applied to the interpretation of recent experimental data [1–4] on the magnetic properties of NdFe3(BO3)4. The results of calculations show a good agreement with experiment. The proposed theory adequately describes (i) anomalies of the Schottky type in the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility, (ii) nonlinear curves of magnetization in the basal plane in a magnetic field up to 1 T (showing evidence of the first-order phase transitions) and their evolution with the temperature, and (iii) the field and temperature dependences of magnetization in a magnetic field up to 9 T.  相似文献

Phase transitions occuring in a quasi-one-dimensional organic compound (TMTSF)2PF6 near the boundaries between the paramagnetic metallic (PM), antiferromagnetic insulator (AFI), and superconducting (SC) states were studied experimentally. A controlled transition through the phase boundary was achieved by maintaining the sample at fixed temperature T and pressure P, while the critical pressure was tuned by varying a magnetic field B. When the PM/AFI phase boundary was crossed due to the variation of a magnetic field, history effects were observed: the resistance was found to depend on the trajectory described by the system before arriving at a given point (P-B-T) of the phase space. The results of the experiment give evidence for the formation of a macroscopically inhomogeneous state characterized by the inclusions of a minor phase that is spatially separated from the major phase. Away from the phase boundary, the homogeneous state is restored. After this, upon approaching the phase boundary in the back direction, the system exhibits no features of the minor phase up to the very boundary.  相似文献

The antiferromagnetic resonance, heat capacity, magnetic properties, and magnetic phase diagram of a GdFe3(BO3)4 crystal in which some of the iron ions were substituted by diamagnetic gallium ions have been investigated. It has been found that the Neél temperature upon diamagnetic substitution decreased to 17 K compared to 38 K in the unsubstituted crystal. The effective exchange and anisotropy fields for GdFe2.1Ga0.9(BO3)4 have been estimated from the field dependences of magnetization and resonance measurements. The magnetic phase diagram of the crystal has been constructed from magnetic and resonance measurements. In GdFe2.1Ga0.9(BO3)4, there is no spontaneous reorientation and, in the absence of a magnetic field, the crystal remains an easy-axis one in the entire domain of magnetic ordering. The critical field of the reorientation transition to an induced easy-plane state in a magnetic field along the trigonal axis has been found to increase compared to that in the unsubstituted crystal.  相似文献

Exchange bias (EB) of multiferroics presents many potential opportunities for magnetic devices. However, instead of using low-temperature field cooling in the hysteresis loop measurement, which usually shows an effective approach to obtain obvious EB phenomenon, there are few room temperature EB. In this article, extensive studies on room temperature EB without field cooling were observed in BiFeO3 nano- and microcrystals. Moreover, with increasing size the hysteresis loops shift from horizontal negative exchange bias (NEB) to positive exchange bias (PEB). In order to explain the tunable EB behaviors with size dependence, a phenomenological qualitative model based on the framework of antiferromagnetic (AFM) core-two-dimensional diluted antiferromagnet in a field (2D-DAFF) shell structure was proposed. The training effect (TE) ascertained the validity of model and the presence of unstable magnetic structure using Binek’s model. Experimental results show that the tunable EB effect can be explained by the competition of ferromagnetic (FM) exchange coupling and AFM exchange coupling interaction between AFM core and 2D-DAFF shell. Additionally, the local distortion of lattice fringes was observed in hexagonal-shaped BiFeO3 nanocrystals with well-dispersed behavior. The electrical conduction properties agreed well with the space charge-limited conduction mechanism.  相似文献

Epitaxial BaFe1.8Cr0.2As2 thin films with the tetragonal c-axis perpendicular to the thin film surface were grown on (LaAlO3)0.3(Sr2AlTaO6)0.7 (LSAT) single crystalline substrates using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Resistive measurements indicate the existence of two transitions at temperatures of about 80 K and 40 K. The transition at 80 K is attributed to the structural transition from the high temperature tetragonal phase to the low temperature orthorhombic phase accompanied with the magnetic transition from a paramagnetic to an antiferromagnetic state as known for doped bulk systems. Below T ≈ 40 K the magnetization curves measured perpendicularly to the orthorhombic c-axis in fields up to 9 Tesla show two inflexion points indicating metamagnetic transitions.  相似文献

Magnetization and neutron diffraction measurements have been made on the title pseudo-binary of tetragonal anti-ferromagnets Fe2 As and Cr2 As. In this system antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering appears below 310 K. The moments are confined in theab plane but unlike in the end members they are tilted off thea-axis. In addition to the AFM structure a weak ferromagnetic behaviour shows up below∼80 K with a rather low moment of ∼0.07 μB per formula unit at 5 K and under a field of 3 T.  相似文献

The magnetic, electrical and electronic properties of the tetragonal ternary YbFe4Al8 compound have been investigated. This compound was supposed to be an antiferromagnetic superconductor due to the negative magnetization signal appearing at a low field of the field cooling mode, however, based on the measurements of the temperature dependence of magnetization and resistivity we do not confirm the presence of superconductivity in this material and we ascribe the negative magnetization to the complicated non-collinear magnetic structure. A switch to the antiferromagnetic order at about 150 K has been visible both on the M(T) and ρ(T) curves. The valence state of the Yb ions has been studied by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. The valence band spectrum at the Fermi level exhibits the domination of the hybridized Yb(4f) and Fe(3d) states.  相似文献
