We extend the Novikov Morse-type inequalities for closed 1-forms in 2 directions. First, we consider manifolds with boundary. Second, we allow a very degenerate structure of the critical set of the form, assuming only that the form is non-degenerated in the sense of Kirwan. In particular, we obtain a generalization of a result of Floer about the usual Morse inequalities on a manifold with boundary. We also obtain an equivariant version of our inequalities.

Our proof is based on an application of the Witten deformation technique. The main novelty here is that we consider the neighborhood of the critical set as a manifold with a cylindrical end. This leads to a considerable simplification of the local analysis. In particular, we obtain a new analytic proof of the Morse-Bott inequalities on a closed manifold.

In this article, motivated by a work of Caffarelli and Cordoba in phase transitions analysis, we prove new weighted anisotropic Sobolev type inequalities where different derivatives have different weight functions. These inequalities are also intimately connected to weighted Sobolev inequalities for Grushin type operators, the weights being not necessarily Muckenhoupt. For example we consider Sobolev inequalities on finite cylinders, the weight being a power of the distance function from the top or the bottom of the cylinder. We also prove similar inequalities in the more general case in which the weight is a power of the distance function from a higher codimension part of the boundary.  相似文献

The boundary element approximation of the parabolic variational inequalities of the second kind is discussed. First, the parabolic variational inequalities of the second kind can be reduced to an elliptic variational inequality by using semidiscretization and implicit method in time; then the existence and uniqueness for the solution of nonlinear non-differentiable mixed variational inequality is discussed. Its corresponding mixed boundary variational inequality and the existence and uniqueness of its solution are yielded. This provides the theoretical basis for using boundary element method to solve the mixed vuriational inequality.  相似文献

In this paper we examine two classes of nonlinear hyperbolic initial boundary value problems with nonmonotone multivalued boundary conditions characterized by the Clarke subdifferential. We prove two existence results for multidimensional hemivariational inequalities: one for the inequalities with relation between reaction and velocity and the other for the expressions containing the reaction–displacement law. The existence of weak solutions is established by using a surjectivity result for pseudomonotone operators and a priori estimates. In this paper, we obtain Morse–Bott inequalities in the presence of a compact Lie group action via Bismut–Lebeauʼs analytic localization techniques. As an application, we obtain Morse–Bott inequalities on compact manifold with nonempty boundary by applying the generalized Morse–Bott inequalities to the doubling manifold.  相似文献

New affine invariant functionals for convex polytopes are introduced. Some sharp affine isoperimetric inequalities are established for the new functionals. These new inequalities lead to fairly strong volume estimates for projection bodies. Two of the new affine isoperimetric inequalities are extensions of Ball's reverse isoperimetric inequalities.

A new notion of partition‐determined functions is introduced, and several basic inequalities are developed for the entropies of such functions of independent random variables, as well as for cardinalities of compound sets obtained using these functions. Here a compound set means a set obtained by varying each argument of a function of several variables over a set associated with that argument, where all the sets are subsets of an appropriate algebraic structure so that the function is well defined. On the one hand, the entropy inequalities developed for partition‐determined functions imply entropic analogues of general inequalities of Plünnecke‐Ruzsa type. On the other hand, the cardinality inequalities developed for compound sets imply several inequalities for sumsets, including for instance a generalization of inequalities proved by Gyarmati, Matolcsi and Ruzsa (2010). We also provide partial progress towards a conjecture of Ruzsa (2007) for sumsets in nonabelian groups. Preconditioning by a conjugate projector is combined with the recently proposed modified proportioning with reduced gradient projection (MPRGP) algorithm for the solution of bound‐constrained quadratic programming problems. If applied to the partially bound‐constrained problems, such as those arising from the application of FETI‐based domain decomposition methods to the discretized elliptic boundary variational inequalities, the resulting algorithm is shown to have better bound on the rate of convergence than the original MPRGP algorithm. In this paper we introduce and study a weakened form of logarithmic Sobolev inequalities in connection with various others functional inequalities (weak Poincaré inequalities, general Beckner inequalities, etc.). We also discuss the quantitative behaviour of relative entropy along a symmetric diffusion semi-group. In particular, we exhibit an example where Poincaré inequality can not be used for deriving entropic convergence whence weak logarithmic Sobolev inequality ensures the result.   相似文献

We deal with the existence of weak solutions of double degenerate quasilinear parabolic inequalities with a Signorini-Dirichlet-Neumann type mixed boundary condition, which may degenerate in certain subset of the boundary or on a segment in the interior of the domain and in time. The main tools in our study are the maximM monotone property of the derivative operator with zero-initial valued conditions and the theory of pseudomonotone perturbations of maximal monotone mappings.  相似文献

We give a new diagram about uniform decay, empty essential spectrum and various functional inequalities, including Poincaré inequalities, super- and weak-Poincaré inequalities, for transient birth-death processes. This diagram is completely opposite to that in ergodic situation, and substantially points out the difference between transient birth-death processes and recurrent ones. The criterion for the empty essential spectrum is achieved. Some matching sufficient and necessary conditions for weak-Poincaré inequalities and super-Poincaré inequalities are also presented.  相似文献

In this paper we first present the classical maximum principle due to E. Hopf, together with an extended commentary and discussion of Hopf's paper. We emphasize the comparison technique invented by Hopf to prove this principle, which has since become a main mathematical tool for the study of second order elliptic partial differential equations and has generated an enormous number of important applications. While Hopf's principle is generally understood to apply to linear equations, it is in fact also crucial in nonlinear theories, such as those under consideration here.In particular, we shall treat and discuss recent generalizations of the strong maximum principle, and also the compact support principle, for the case of singular quasilinear elliptic differential inequalities, under generally weak assumptions on the quasilinear operators and the nonlinearities involved. Our principal interest is in necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of both principles; in exposing and simplifying earlier proofs of corresponding results; and in extending the conclusions to wider classes of singular operators than previously considered.The results have unexpected ramifications for other problems, as will develop from the exposition, e.g.
(i)
two point boundary value problems for singular quasilinear ordinary differential equations (Sections 3 and 4);
(ii)
the exterior Dirichlet boundary value problem (Section 5);
(iii)
the existence of dead cores and compact support solutions, i.e. dead cores at infinity (Section 7);
(iv)
Euler-Lagrange inequalities on a Riemannian manifold (Section 9);
(v)
comparison and uniqueness theorems for solutions of singular quasilinear differential inequalities (Section 10).

We consider Hardy-Rellich inequalities and discuss their possible improvement. The procedure is based on decomposition into spherical harmonics, where in addition various new inequalities are obtained (e.g. Rellich-Sobolev inequalities). We discuss also the optimality of these inequalities in the sense that we establish (in most cases) that the constants appearing there are the best ones. Next, we investigate the polyharmonic operator (Rellich and higher order Rellich inequalities); the difficulties arising in this case come from the fact that (generally) minimizing sequences are no longer expected to consist of radial functions. Finally, the successively use of the Rellich inequalities lead to various new higher order Rellich inequalities.  相似文献

We study asymptotic behavior of the derivatives of Faber polynomials on a set with corners at the boundary. Our results have applications to the questions of sharpness of Markov inequalities for such sets. In particular, the found asymptotics are related to a general Markov-type inequality of Pommerenke and the associated conjecture of Erd s. We also prove a new bound for Faber polynomials on piecewise smooth domains.  相似文献
