We consider the problem of routing vehicles stationed at a central facility (depot) to supply customers with known demands, in such a way as to minimize the total distance travelled. The problem is referred to as the vehicle routing problem (VRP) and is a generalization of the multiple travelling salesman problem that has many practical applications. We present tree search algorithms for the exact solution of the VRP incorporating lower bounds computed from (i) shortest spanningk-degree centre tree (k-DCT), and (ii)q-routes. The final algorithms also include problem reduction and dominance tests. Computational results are presented for a number of problems derived from the literature. The results show that the bounds derived from theq-routes are superior to those fromk-DCT and that VRPs of up to about 25 customers can be solved exactly.  相似文献

The m-Peripatetic Vehicle Routing Problem (m-PVRP) consists in finding a set of routes of minimum total cost over m periods so that two customers are never sequenced consecutively during two different periods. It models for example money transports or cash machines supply, and the aim is to minimize the total cost of the routes chosen. The m-PVRP can be considered as a generalization of two well-known NP-hard problems: the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP or 1-PVRP) and the m-Peripatetic Salesman Problem (m-PSP). In this paper we discuss some complexity results of the problem before presenting upper and lower bounding procedures. Good results are obtained not only on the m-PVRP in general, but also on the VRP and the m-PSP using classical VRP instances and TSPLIB instances.  相似文献

In this paper, an algorithm for solving the asymmetric traveling salesman problem is developed and tested by computation. This algorithm is based on the extension principle by Schoch and uses the assignment problem relaxation of the traveling salesman problem for computing lower bounds. Computational experience with randomly generated test problems indicate that the present algorithm yields good results in runtime which are comparable with the results of Smith/Srinivasan/Thompson. Computational experience are reported for up to 120-node problems with uniformly distributed and approximately normally distributed cost.  相似文献

A dual ascent approach for steiner tree problems on a directed graph   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The Steiner tree problem on a directed graph (STDG) is to find a directed subtree that connects a root node to every node in a designated node setV. We give a dual ascent procedure for obtaining lower bounds to the optimal solution value. The ascent information is also used in a heuristic procedure for obtaining feasible solutions to the STDG. Computational results indicate that the two procedures are very effective in solving a class of STDG's containing up to 60 nodes and 240 directed/120 undirected arcs. The directed spanning tree and uncapacitated plant location problems are special cases of the STDG. Using these relationships, we show that our ascent procedure can be viewed as a generalization ofboth the Chu-Liu-Edmonds directed spanning tree algorithm and the Bilde-Krarup-Erlenkotter ascent algorithm for the plant location problem. The former comparison yields a dual ascent interpretation of the steps of the directed spanning tree algorithm.  相似文献

We study the chance-constrained vehicle routing problem (CCVRP), a version of the vehicle routing problem (VRP) with stochastic demands, where a limit is imposed on the probability that each vehicle’s capacity is exceeded. A distinguishing feature of our proposed methodologies is that they allow correlation between random demands, whereas nearly all existing exact methods for the VRP with stochastic demands require independent demands. We first study an edge-based formulation for the CCVRP, in particular addressing the challenge of how to determine a lower bound on the number of vehicles required to serve a subset of customers. We then investigate the use of a branch-and-cut-and-price (BCP) algorithm. While BCP algorithms have been considered the state of the art in solving the deterministic VRP, few attempts have been made to extend this framework to the VRP with stochastic demands. In contrast to the deterministic VRP, we find that the pricing problem for the CCVRP problem is strongly \(\mathcal {NP}\)-hard, even when the routes being priced are allowed to have cycles. We therefore propose a further relaxation of the routes that enables pricing via dynamic programming. We also demonstrate how our proposed methodologies can be adapted to solve a distributionally robust CCVRP problem. Numerical results indicate that the proposed methods can solve instances of CCVRP having up to 55 vertices.  相似文献

In this paper a Branch-and-Bound (BB) algorithm is developed to obtain an optimal solution to the single source uncapacitated minimum cost Network Flow Problem (NFP) with general concave costs. Concave NFPs are NP-Hard, even for the simplest version therefore, there is a scarcity of exact methods to address them in their full generality. The BB algorithm presented here can be used to solve optimally single source uncapacitated minimum cost NFPs with any kind of concave arc costs. The bounding is based on the computation of lower bounds derived from state space relaxations of a dynamic programming formulation. The relaxations, which are the subject of the paper (Fontes et al., 2005b) and also briefly discussed here, involve the use of non-injective mapping functions, which guarantee a reduction on the cardinality of the state space. Branching is performed by either fixing an arc as part of the final solution or by removing it from the final solution. Computational results are reported and compared to available alternative methods for addressing the same type of problems. It could be concluded that our BB algorithm has better performance and the results have also shown evidence that it has a sub-exponential time growth.  相似文献

This paper studies an inventory routing problem (IRP) with split delivery and vehicle fleet size constraint. Due to the complexity of the IRP, it is very difficult to develop an exact algorithm that can solve large scale problems in a reasonable computation time. As an alternative, an approximate approach that can quickly and near-optimally solve the problem is developed based on an approximate model of the problem and Lagrangian relaxation. In the approach, the model is solved by using a Lagrangian relaxation method in which the relaxed problem is decomposed into an inventory problem and a routing problem that are solved by a linear programming algorithm and a minimum cost flow algorithm, respectively, and the dual problem is solved by using the surrogate subgradient method. The solution of the model obtained by the Lagrangian relaxation method is used to construct a near-optimal solution of the IRP by solving a series of assignment problems. Numerical experiments show that the proposed hybrid approach can find a high quality near-optimal solution for the IRP with up to 200 customers in a reasonable computation time.  相似文献

The static conversion from brick-and-mortar retailing to the hybrid click-and-mortar business model is studied from the perspective of distribution logistics. Retailers run warehouses and brick-and-mortar stores to meet the demand of their walk-in customers. When they decide to operate on the Web as an e-tailer, also click-and-mortar stores are needed which can serve both walk-in and online customers. While the distance between home and the nearest open store is used as a proxy measure for walk-in customers, a quality of service (QoS) guarantee for online customers is timely delivery of their orders. We describe and solve a static location-routing based problem for companies that embrace the clicks-and-bricks strategy in their retail operations. An augmented Lagrangian relaxation method embedded in a subgradient optimization procedure generates lower bounds, whereas a heuristic method finds feasible solutions. The performance of the Lagrangian-based solution method is tested on a number of randomly generated test problems.  相似文献

The following computational problem was initiated by Manber and Tompa (22nd FOCS Conference, 1981): Given a graphG=(V, E) and a real functionf:VR which is a proposed vertex coloring. Decide whetherf is a proper vertex coloring ofG. The elementary steps are taken to be linear comparisons. Lower bounds on the complexity of this problem are derived using the chromatic polynomial ofG. It is shown how geometric parameters of a space partition associated withG influence the complexity of this problem. Existing methods for analyzing such space partitions are suggested as a powerful tool for establishing lower bounds for a variety of computational problems.  相似文献

We present an algorithm for finding a minimum spanning tree where the costs are the sum of two linear ratios. We show how upper and lower bounds may be quickly generated. By associating each ratio value with a new variable in `image space,' we show how to tighten these bounds by optimally solving a sequence of constrained minimum spanning tree problems. The resulting iterative algorithm then finds the globally optimal solution. Two procedures are presented to speed up the basic algorithm. One relies on the structure of the problem to find a locally optimal solution while the other is independent of the problem structure. Both are shown to be effective in reducing the computational effort. Numerical results are presented.  相似文献

In Floudas and Visweswaran (1990, 1993), a deterministic global optimization approach was proposed for solving certain classes of nonconvex optimization problems. An algorithm, GOP, was presented for the solution of the problem through a series ofprimal andrelaxed dual problems that provide valid upper and lower bounds respectively on the global solution. The algorithm was proved to have finite convergence to an -global optimum. In this paper, new theoretical properties are presented that help to enhance the computational performance of the GOP algorithm applied to problems of special structure. The effect of the new properties is illustrated through application of the GOP algorithm to a difficult indefinite quadratic problem, a multiperiod tankage quality problem that occurs frequently in the modeling of refinery processes, and a set of pooling/blending problems from the literature. In addition, extensive computational experience is reported for randomly generated concave and indefinite quadratic programming problems of different sizes. The results show that the properties help to make the algorithm computationally efficient for fairly large problems.  相似文献

Some recent methods for solving nonlinear programming problems make use of estimates of the Lagrange multipliers. These estimates are usually calculated by solving a system oft linear equations, wheret is the number of active constraints. It is shown that, when a large proportion of the active constraints consists of simple upper or lower bounds on the variables, then computational effort can be saved by means of a reorganization of this linear system.  相似文献

The vehicle routing problem with multiple use of vehicles is a variant of the classical vehicle routing problem. It arises when each vehicle performs several routes during the workday due to strict time limits on route duration (e.g., when perishable goods are transported). The routes are defined over customers with a revenue, a demand and a time window. Given a fixed-size fleet of vehicles, it might not be possible to serve all customers. Thus, the customers must be chosen based on their associated revenue minus the traveling cost to reach them. We introduce a branch-and-price approach to address this problem where lower bounds are computed by solving the linear programming relaxation of a set packing formulation, using column generation. The pricing subproblems are elementary shortest path problems with resource constraints. Computational results are reported on euclidean problems derived from well-known benchmark instances for the vehicle routing problem with time windows.  相似文献

We present a qualitative model for the convergence behaviour of the Generalised Minimal Residual (GMRES) method for solving nonsingular systems of linear equationsAx =b in finite and infinite dimensional spaces. One application of our methods is the solution of discretised infinite dimensional problems, such as integral equations, where the constants in the asymptotic bounds are independent of the mesh size.Our model provides simple, general bounds that explain the convergence of GMRES as follows: If the eigenvalues ofA consist of a single cluster plus outliers then the convergence factor is bounded by the cluster radius, while the asymptotic error constant reflects the non-normality ofA and the distance of the outliers from the cluster. If the eigenvalues ofA consist of several close clusters, then GMRES treats the clusters as a single big cluster, and the convergence factor is the radius of this big cluster. This paper addresses a location-routing problem with simultaneous pickup and delivery (LRPSPD) which is a general case of the location-routing problem. The LRPSPD is defined as finding locations of the depots and designing vehicle routes in such a way that pickup and delivery demands of each customer must be performed with same vehicle and the overall cost is minimized. We propose an effective branch-and-cut algorithm for solving the LRPSPD. The proposed algorithm implements several valid inequalities adapted from the literature for the problem and a local search based on simulated annealing algorithm to obtain upper bounds. Computational results, for a large number of instances derived from the literature, show that some instances with up to 88 customers and 8 potential depots can be solved in a reasonable computation time.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the problem of scheduling n independent jobs on m identical parallel machines for the objective of minimizing total tardiness of the jobs. We develop dominance properties and lower bounds, and develop a branch and bound algorithm using these properties and lower bounds as well as upper bounds obtained from a heuristic algorithm. Computational experiments are performed on randomly generated test problems and results show that the algorithm solves problems with moderate sizes in a reasonable amount of computation time.  相似文献

In the partial accessibility constrained vehicle routing problem, a route can be covered by two types of vehicles, i.e. truck or truck + trailer. Some customers are accessible by both vehicle types, whereas others solely by trucks. After introducing an integer programming formulation for the problem, we describe a two-phase heuristic method which extends a classical vehicle routing algorithm. Since it is necessary to solve a combinatorial problem that has some similarities with the generalized assignment problem, we propose an enumerative procedure in which bounds are obtained from a Lagrangian relaxation. The routine provides very encouraging results on a set of test problems.  相似文献

Lagrangian relaxation is commonly used in combinatorial optimization to generate lower bounds for a minimization problem. We study a modified Lagrangian relaxation which generates an optimal integer solution. We call it semi-Lagrangian relaxation and illustrate its practical value by solving large-scale instances of the p-median problem. 周期性车辆路径问题(PVRP)是标准车辆路径问题(VRP)的扩展,PVRP将配送期由单一配送期延伸到T(T>1)期,因此,PVRP需要优化每个配送期的顾客组合和配送路径。由于PVRP是一个内嵌VRP的问题,其比标准VRP问题更加复杂,难于求解。本文采用蚁群算法对PVRP进行求解,并提出采用两种改进措施——多维信息素的运用和基于扫描法的局部优化方法来提高算法的性能。最后,通过9个经典PVRP算例对该算法进行了数据实验,结果表明本文提出的改进蚁群算法求解PVRP问题是可行有效的,同时也表明两种改进措施可以显著提高算法的性能。  相似文献

In this paper we develop a method for solving to optimality a general 0–1 formulation for uncapacitated location problems. This is a 3-stage method that solves large problems in reasonable computing times.The 3-stage method is composed of a primal-dual algorithm, a subgradient optimization to solve a Lagrangean dual and a branch-and-bound algorithm. It has a hierarchical structure, with a given stage being activated only if the optimal solution could not be identified in the preceding stage.The proposed method was used in the solution of three well-known uncapacitated location problems: the simple plant location problem, thep-median problem and the fixed-chargep-median problem. Computational results are given for problems of up to the size 200 customers ×200 potential facility sites.  相似文献
