In this paper we reconsider a classical theorem by Bican and El Bashir, which guarantees the existence of non-trivial relatively pure submodules in a module category over a ring with unit. Our aim is to generalize the theorem to module categories over rings with several objects. As an application, we then consider the special case of α-pure objects in such module categories.  相似文献

In this paper we study closed sub-bimodules of normalizing bimodules over semiprime rings. We extend the main results which are known for centred bimodules and several other results which are new even for centred bimodules are also obtained. In particular, we prove that the theorem on one-to-one correspondence between closed submodules obtained in former papers for centred bimodules is also true for normalizing bimodules. Finally, we give some applications of the main results.

We discuss the free cyclic submodules over an associative ring R with unity. Special attention is paid to those which are generated by outliers. This paper describes all orbits of such submodules in the ring of lower triangular 3 × 3 matrices over a field F under the action of the general linear group. Besides rings with outliers generating free cyclic submodules, there are also rings with outliers generating only torsion cyclic submodules and without any outliers. Summary Basic concepts in the theory of modules over valuation rings are introduced. The notion of height is used to define indicators of elements, whose irregularities are investigated. The indicator leads to the new notion of smoothness, a property which does not originate from abelian groups. Invariants generalizing the finite Ulm-Kaplansky invariants of abelian p-groups, as well as the Baer invariants for completely decomposable torsion-free abelian groups, are defined, and several results relating these invariants of a module to those of submodules are proved. All these concepts lead to the notion of prebasic submodules, which seems to be the right analogue of the basic subgroups in abelian groups.The authors gratefully acknowledge the support of the National Science Foundation and the Italian C.N.R.  相似文献

A ring is called right SAP if every right simple module over it is absolutely pure. In this paper we prove that every right SAP ring is semiprimitive and that the homomorphic image and the center of an right SAP ring are also right SAP. We also show that the sum of all absolutely pure minimal submodules of any module is a fully invariant submodule. As an application, we give a decomposition of some selfinjective rings.  相似文献

The present paper is a sequel to our previous work on almost uniserial rings and modules, which appeared in the Journal of Algebra in 2016; it studies rings over which every (left and right) module is almost serial. A module is almost uniserial if any two of its submodules are either comparable in inclusion or isomorphic. And a module is almost serial if it is a direct sum of almost uniserial modules. The results of the paper are inspired by a characterization of Artinian serial rings as rings having all left (or right) modules serial. We prove that if R is a local ring and all left R-modules are almost serial then R is an Artinian ring which is uniserial either on the left or on the right. We also produce a connection between local rings having all left and right modules almost serial, local balanced rings studied by Dlab and Ringel and local Köthe rings. Finally we prove Morita invariance of the almost serial property and list some consequences.  相似文献

Over a commutative ring R with identity, free modules M with 2 distinguished submodules are studied. The category Rep2R of such objects M have the obvious morphisms between them, which are homomorphisms between .R-modules preserving the distinguished submodules. The endo-morphisms for each M constitute a subalgebra EndRM of the algebra EndRM and the readability of λ-generated R-algebras A as EndRM is considered for cardinals λ. Despite the fact that 4 is the minimal number of distinguished submodules for realizing any algebra over a field il, we are able to prove a similar result in Rep2R for many rings R including R = Z and algebras which are cotorsion-free. Several examples illustrate the boarder line of our main result. The main theorem is applied for constructing Butler groups in [11]  相似文献

The object of this paper is to investigate finitely generated modules and injective modules over fully bounded Noetherian rings. Our main results on f.g. modules (Theorems 3.1 and 3.4) provide an analog of the Jordan-Holder Theorem and seem to be new even for commutative Noetherian rings. They imply the validity of Jacobson's conjecture for fully bounded Noetherian rings. The main result on injectives (Theorem 5.3) describes f.g. submodules of an indecomposible injective and shows how it can be built from indecomposible injectives over certain Artinian rings.  相似文献

We introduce and study the concept of dual perfect dimension which is a Krull-like dimension extension of the concept of acc on finitely generated submodules. We observe some basic facts for modules with this dimension, which are similar to the basic properties of modules with Noetherian dimension. For Artinian serial modules, we show that these two dimensions coincide. Consequently, we prove that the Noetherian dimension of non-Noetherian Artinian serial modules over the rings of the title is 1.  相似文献

We consider pairs (K,G) of an infinite field K or a formally real field K and a group G and want to find extension fields F of K with automorphism group G. If K is formally real then we also want F to be formally real and G must be right orderable. Besides showing the existence of the desired extension fields F, we are mainly interested in the question about the smallest possible size of such fields. From some combinatorial tools, like Shelah’s Black Box, we inherit jumps in cardinalities of K and F respectively. For this reason we apply different methods in constructing fields F: We use a recent theorem on realizations of group rings as endomorphism rings in the category of free modules with distinguished submodules. Fortunately this theorem remains valid without cardinal jumps. In our main result (Theorem 1) we will show that for a large class of fields the desired result holds for extension fields of equal cardinality. We study primary submodules and primary decompositions from a differential and computational point of view. Our main theoretical contribution is a general structure theory and a representation theorem for primary submodules of an arbitrary finitely generated module over a polynomial ring. We characterize primary submodules in terms of differential operators and punctual Quot schemes. Moreover, we introduce and implement an algorithm that computes a minimal differential primary decomposition for a module.  相似文献

IfR is a right noetherian ring, the decomposition of an injective module, as a direct sum of uniform submodules, is well known. Also, this property characterises this kind of ring. M. L. Teply obtains this result for torsion-free injective modules. The decomposition of injective modules relative to a torsion theory has been studied by S. Mohamed, S. Singh, K. Masaike and T. Horigone. A right R-module satisfies the right Beachy–Blair condition if each of its faithful submodules is cofaithful. In this article we study the relationship between the right Beachy–Blair condition of a right R-module and its skew polynomial, skew monoid and skew generalized power series extensions. A submodule N of a module M is idempotent if N = Hom(M, N)N. The module M is fully idempotent if every submodule of M is idempotent. We prove that over a commutative ring, cyclic idempotent submodules of any module are direct summands. Counterexamples are given to show that this result is not true in general. It is shown that over commutative Noetherian rings, the fully idempotent modules are precisely the semisimple modules. We also show that the commutative rings over which every module is fully idempotent are exactly the semisimple rings. Idempotent submodules of free modules are characterized.  相似文献
