The magnetic structures of the Cu(2)O(3) spin lattices present in Cu(4)O(3) and Ag(2)Cu(2)O(3) were analyzed by studying their spin exchange interactions on the basis of spin dimer analysis. Calculations of spin exchange parameters were calibrated by studying LiCuVO(4) whose intrachain and interchain antiferromagnetic spin exchange parameters are known experimentally. The magnetic phase transition of Cu(4)O(3) at 42.3 K doubles the unit cell along each crystallographic direction. The spin arrangements of the Cu(2)O(3) lattice consistent with this experimental observation are different from conventional antiferromagnetic ordering. Our analysis indicates that spin fluctuation should occur in Cu(4)O(3), low-dimensional magnetism should be more important than magnetic frustration in Cu(4)O(3), and Ag(2)Cu(2)O(3) and Cu(4)O(3) should have similar structural and magnetic properties.  相似文献

The 5d magnetic oxide Ca(3)LiOsO(6) has a trigonal arrangement of its LiOsO(6) chains parallel to the c-direction and hence has triangular arrangements of high-spin Os(5+) (d(3)) ions but exhibits no spin frustration and undergoes a long-range antiferromagnetic ordering at a high temperature. The origin of this apparently puzzling observation was examined by evaluating the nearest-neighbor Os-O···O-Os spin exchange interactions of Ca(3)LiOsO(6) on the basis of density functional calculations. Our study shows that, of the two nearest-neighbor interchain spin exchanges, one dominates over the other and that the intrachain spin exchange and the dominating interchain spin exchange are strong and form a three-dimensional antiferromagnetic spin lattice with no spin frustration, which is responsible for the long-range antiferromagnetic ordering of Ca(3)LiOsO(6) at high temperature. In determining the strengths of the Os-O···O-Os exchange interactions of Ca(3)LiOsO(6), the Li(+) and Ca(2+) ions of the O···Li(+)···O and O···Ca(2+)···O linkages are found to play only a minor role.  相似文献

The CrVO(4)-type magnetic oxides MM'O(4) consist of edge-sharing MO(4) octahedral chains condensed with M'O(4) tetrahedra and exhibit a wide variety of magnetic structures. The magnetic properties of these oxides were examined by studying their spin exchange interactions on the basis of spin dimer analysis. The nature and magnitudes of the intra- and interchain spin exchange interactions depend on the square-to-rectangle distortion in the basal planes of the MO(4) chain and on the difference between the M 3d and O 2p orbital energies. The spiral magnetic structures of beta-CrPO(4) and MnSO(4) originate from the pseudohexagonal arrangement of the MO(4) chains and the frustrated interchain antiferromagnetic interactions.  相似文献

The title radical (F4BImNN) is a stable nitronylnitroxide that forms hydrogen-bonded NH... ON chains in the solid state. The chains assemble the F4BImNN molecules to form stacked contacts between the radical groups, in a geometry that is expected to exhibit ferromagnetic (FM) exchange based on spin polarization (SP) models. The experimental magnetic susceptibility of F4BImNN confirms the expectation, showing 1-D Heisenberg chain FM exchange behavior over 1.8-300 K with an intrachain exchange constant of Jchain/k = +22 K. At lower temperatures, ac magnetic susceptibility and variable field heat capacity measurements show that F4BImNN acts as a quasi-1-D ferromagnet. The dominant ferromagnetic exchange interaction is attributable to overlap between spin orbitals of molecules within the hydrogen-bonded chains, consistent with the SP model expectations. The chains appear to be antiferromagnetically exchange coupled, giving cusps in the ac susceptibility and zero field heat capacity at lower temperatures. The results indicate that the sample orders magnetically at about 0.7 K. The magnetic heat capacity ordering cusp shifts to lower temperatures as external magnetic field increases, consistent with forming a bulk antiferromagnetic phase below a Néel temperature of TN(0) = 0.72 K, with a critical field of Hc approximately 1800 Oe. The interchain exchange is estimated to be zJ/k congruent with (-)0.1 K.  相似文献

The distorted wolframite-type oxides CuWO4 and CuMoO4-III have a structure in which CuO4 zigzag chains, made up of cis-edge-sharing CuO6 octahedra, run along the c-direction and hence exhibit low-dimensional magnetic properties. We examined the magnetic structures of these compounds and their isostructural analogue Cu(Mo(0.25)W0.75)O4 on the basis of the spin-orbital interaction energies calculated for their spin dimers. Our study shows that these compounds consist of two-dimensional (2D) magnetic sheets defined by one superexchange (intrachain Cu-O-Cu) and three super-superexchange (interchain Cu-O.O-Cu) paths, the strongly interacting spin units of these 2D magnetic sheets are the two-leg antiferromagnetic (AFM) ladder chains running along the (a + c)-direction, and the spin arrangement between adjacent AFM ladder chains leads to spin frustration. The similarities and differences in the magnetic structures of CuWO4, CuMoO4-III, and Cu(Mo(0.25)W0.75)O4 were discussed by examining how adjacent AFM ladder chains are coupled via the superexchange paths in the 2D magnetic sheets and how adjacent 2D magnetic sheets are coupled via another superexchange paths along the c-direction. Our study reproduces the experimental finding that the magnetic unit cell is doubled along the a-axis in CuWO(4) and along the c-axis in CuMoO4-III and predicts that the magnetic unit cell should be doubled along the a- and b-axes in Cu(Mo(0.25)W0.75)O4. In the understanding of the strength of a super-superexchange interaction, the importance of the geometrical factors controlling the overlap between the tails of magnetic orbitals was pointed out.  相似文献

Spin labeled 2'-deoxyuridine, in which a significant fraction of the spin density is delocalized from a nitroxide radical to the DNA base residue, was prepared as a crystalline solid, stable at ambient conditions. The crystal packing, which includes multiple hydrogen bonds, leads to one-dimensional chains of molecules with predominant intrachain ferromagnetic coupling and weaker interchain antiferromagnetic coupling.  相似文献

The olivine-type compounds LiMPO4 (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) consist of MO4 layers made up of corner-sharing MO6 octahedra of high-spin M2+ ions. To gain insight into the magnetic properties of these phosphates, their spin exchange interactions were estimated by spin dimer analysis using tight binding calculations and by electronic band structure analysis using first principles density functional theory calculations. Three spin exchange interactions were found to be important for LiMPO4, namely, the intralayer superexchange J1, the intralayer super-superexchange Jb along the b-direction, and the interlayer super-superexchange J2 along the b-direction. The magnetic ground state of LiMPO4 was determined in terms of these spin exchange interactions by calculating the total spin exchange interaction energy under the classical spin approximation. In the spin lattice of LiMPO4, the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic planes defined by the spin exchange J1 are antiferromagnetically coupled by the spin exchange J2, in agreement with available experimental data.  相似文献

The use of alkyl ammonium cations resulted in four compounds of (A)[FeIII(ox)Cl2] (A = Et3NH+ (1a, 1b), Me4N+ (2), and n-Bu4N+ (3); ox = oxalate), whose structures and magnetic properties were characterized. In all cases, the metal Fe(III) ions are six-coordinated by four oxygen atoms from two bischelating oxalate ligands and the two terminal Cl- ions in the cis position. Thus they form similar anionic 1D [FeIII(ox)Cl2]- chains. The chains are separated by alkyl ammonium cations in the lattice, and the cation size seems to control the interchain separation and packing patterns in the solid. A parallel arrangement of the [FeIII(ox)Cl2]- chains is observed for 1a, 2, and 3, while a crossed one is observed for 1b, which is a polymorph of 1a. Magnetic studies reveal the antiferromagnetic intrachain interactions in all compounds. The last three compounds, 1b, 2, and 3, show spin canting below 14.5, 9.5, and 3.8 K, respectively. The dipolar interaction over the interchain distance is proposed to be the result of 3D magnetic ordering in the materials.  相似文献

The spin lattices of magnetic oxides LiCuVO(4) and CuO are made up of CuO(2) ribbon chains. The incommensurate and commensurate magnetic superstructures of these oxides were examined by calculating the total spin exchange interaction energies of their long-range order spin arrangements on the basis of the isotropic spin exchange and classical spin approximations. The incommensurate superstructure (0, 0.532, 0) of LiCuVO(4) was analyzed to find that the next-nearest-neighbor spin exchange interaction J(nnn) is more strongly antiferromagnetic than the nearest-neighbor spin exchange interaction J(nn) in the CuO(2) chains. With this finding, we reassessed the relative strengths of the spin exchange interactions of LiCuVO(4) and CuO and then analyzed the relative energies of their long-range order spin arrangements. The incommensurate superstructure (0, 0.532, 0) of LiCuVO(4) is explained when the J(nn)/J(nnn) ratio is -0.40. Both the incommensurate superstructure (0.506, 0, -0.483) and the commensurate superstructure (0.5, 0, -0.5) of CuO, which occur at 231 and 212.5 K, respectively, are well explained in terms of the calculated total spin exchange interaction energies. The incommensurate superstructure of CuO becomes commensurate by a slight change in one interchain spin exchange interaction, which is due probably to a slight structure change brought about by the temperature lowering.  相似文献

In the (MM'O6)infinity chains of the transition-metal magnetic oxides Ca3MM'O6 the MO6 trigonal prisms alternate with the M'O6 octahedra by sharing their triangular faces. In the (Co(2O6)infinity chains of Ca3Co2O6 (M = M' = Co) the spins are coupled ferromagnetically, but in the (FeRhO6)infinity chains of Ca3FeRhO6 (M = Fe, M' = Rh) they are coupled antiferromagnetically. The origin of this difference was probed by carrying out spin-polarized density functional theory electronic band structure calculations for ordered spin states of Ca3Co2O6 and Ca3FeRhO6. The spin state of a (MM'O6)infinity chain determines the occurrence of direct metal-metal bonding between the adjacent trigonal prism and octahedral site transition-metal atoms. The extent of direct metal-metal bonding in the (Co2O6)infinity chains of Ca3Co2O6 is stronger in the intrachain ferromagnetic state than in the intrachain antiferromagnetic state, so that the intrachain ferromagnetic state becomes more stable than the intrachain antiferromagnetic state. Such a metal-metal-bonding-induced ferromagnetism is expected to occur in magnetic insulators and magnetic metals of transition-metal elements in which direct metal-metal bonding can be enhanced by ferromagnetic ordering. In the (FeRhO6)infinity chains of Ca3FeRhO6 the ferromagnetic coupling does not lead to a strong metal-metal bonding and the adjacent spins interact by the Fe-O...O-Fe super-superexchange, hence leading to an antiferromagnetic coupling.  相似文献

In marokite CaMn(2)O(4), all six Mn-O bonds of each MnO(6) octahedron are different because of the Jahn-Teller distortion so that every Mn(3+) (d(4)) ion has six different superexchange interactions with its neighboring Mn(3+) ions. The spin exchange interactions of CaMn(2)O(4) were examined on the basis of spin dimer analysis to find what geometrical parameters of the Mn-O-Mn superexchange paths control the signs and strengths of their spin exchange interactions. Our work correctly describes the magnetic structure of CaMn(2)O(4) observed from neutron powder diffraction measurements and shows that the antiferromagnetic interactions of the Mn-O-Mn paths depend primarily on the asymmetry and the Mn-O bond length of the Mn-O-Mn bridge, but not on the 90 degree angle Mn-O-Mn bond angle.  相似文献

We report on the first synthesis of Li-intercalated manganese-phthalocyanine (MnPc) in the bulk form and on the evolution of the structural and magnetic properties as a function of Li concentration, x. We find that solid beta-MnPc, which comprises rodlike assemblies of individual planar molecules, is best described as a glassy one-dimensional ferromagnet without three-dimensional ordering and that it can be quasi-continuously intercalated with Li up to x = 4, forming an isosymmetrical series of Li(x)[MnPc] phases. Inserted Li+ ions strongly bond to pyrrole-bridging nitrogen atoms of the Pc rings, thereby disrupting the ferromagnetic Mn-N(a)...Mn superexchange pathways. This gradually induces a crossover of the intrachain exchange interactions from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic as the doping level, x, increases coupled with a spin-state transition of the Mn2+ ions from intermediate spin, S = 3/2, to high spin, S = 5/2.  相似文献

A two-dimensional iron(II) carboxylate coordination polymer, [Fe(pyoa)2]infinity, where pyoa is 2-(pyridin-3-yloxy)acetate, has been prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. Its crystal structure reveals a single iron(II) site with an elongated octahedral coordination environment containing four equatorial carboxylate oxygens and two axial pyridyl nitrogens; the iron(II) sites are linked by syn-anti micro-carboxylates to form chains along the b axis that have an Fe...Fe separation of 4.910 A. The shortest interchain and interlayer Fe...Fe distances are 6.453 and 11.125 A, respectively. The 4.2-295 K M?ssbauer spectra of [Fe(pyoa) 2] infinity consist of a single paramagnetic high-spin iron(II) quadrupole doublet. The axial Fe-N bond direction defines the Jahn-Teller axis at an iron(II) site and, consequently, the orientation of the single-ion magnetic anisotropy. Thus, along the b axis in a given chain, the spins are collinear and parallel to the Jahn-Teller axis. The Jahn-Teller axes of adjacent intralayer chains have different orientations with an angle of 79.2 degrees between the axes in adjacent chains in a bc layer. [Fe(pyoa)2]infinity exhibits field-induced metamagnetic behavior such that, in an applied field smaller than the critical field, the iron(II) spin-canted moments experience intrachain ferromagnetic interactions and weak interchain antiferromagnetic interactions; the spin canting yields weak ferromagnetism. In an applied field larger than the critical field, the weak antiferromagnetic interchain interactions are overwhelmed to yield superparamagnetic-like slow-magnetic relaxation with an energy barrier of 23(3) K. Single-crystal magnetic studies reveal a quasi-uniaxial magnetic anisotropy with the a axis as the easy-magnetic axis and the b axis as the hard-magnetic axis; the susceptibility measured along the easy a axis may be fit with the Glauber model to yield an effective intrachain exchange coupling constant of 2.06(8) K. A dynamic analysis of the susceptibility yields a 6.3(1) K energy barrier for intrachain domain wall creation. The observed field-assisted superparamagnet-like behavior is consistent with the dynamics of a single-chain magnet. Thus, [Fe(pyoa)2]infinity is best considered as a "metamagnetic-like" single-chain magnet.  相似文献

The nickel(II) complex [Ni(en)2{N(CN)2}]ClO4 1 (en?=?ethylenediamine) has been synthesized and its structure determined. The complex forms a one-dimensional chain structure via the bidentate bridging ligand dicyanamide. A two-dimensional network is formed via interchain hydrogen-bond interactions. The magnetic properties of the compound (5–300?K) show the existence of weak antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between paramagnetic centers along chains.  相似文献

The azido-bridged manganese complex of formula [Mn(tptz)(mu(1,1)-N3)2]n [1; tptz = 2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine] has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and a low-temperature magnetic study. The complex 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbcn, with a = 17.911(5) A, b = 15.804(5) A, c = 6.6538(18) A, and Z = 4. The Mn atoms are coordinated by three N atoms of the tptz ligands and connected to each other by double end-on (EO) azide ligands, forming a neutral 1D chain. The adjacent 1D chains are connected by face-to-face pi-pi-stacking interactions and C-H...pi interactions of pyridine rings of the tptz ligands, which leads to the formation of a supramolecular 2D sheet structure. Temperature- and field-dependent magnetic analyses reveal dominant intrachain ferromagnetic interactions with EO azide-bridge and weak interchain antiferromagnetic interactions with overall metamagnetic behavior having 3D magnetic ordering at 2.7 K. The critical field is approximately 80 G, at which the interlayer antiferromagnetic ground-state switches to a ferromagnetic state.  相似文献

Two isomorphous Co(II) and Ni(II) coordination polymers with azide and the 4-(4-pyridyl)benzoic acid N-oxide ligand (4,4-Hopybz) were synthesized, and structurally and magnetically characterized. They are formulated as [M(4,4-opybz)(N(3))(H(2)O)](n) (M = Co, 1 and Ni, 2). The compounds consist of 2D coordination networks, in which 1D coordination chains with (μ-N(3))(μ-COO) bridges are interlinked by the 4,4-opybz spacers, and the structure also features intra- and interchain O-HO hydrogen-bonding bridges between metal ions. Both compounds exhibit ferromagnetic interactions through the intrachain (μ-N(3))(μ-COO)(O-HO) bridges and antiferromagnetic interactions through the interchain O-HO bridges. The ferromagnetic chains are antiferromagnetically ordered, and the antiferromagnetic phases exhibit field-induced metamagnetic transition. It is found that 1 displays slow relaxation of magnetization, typical of single-chain magnets, while 2 does not. The difference emphasizes the great importance of large magnetic anisotropy for single-chain-magnet dynamics.  相似文献

A single-chain magnet (SCM) of [Mn(TBPP)(TCNE)]·4m-PhCl(2) (1), where TBPP(2-) = meso-tetra(4-biphenyl)porphyrinate; TCNE(?-) = tetracyanoethenide radical anion; m-PhCl(2) = meta-dichlorobenzene, was prepared via suppression of interchain interactions. 1 has a one-dimensional alternating Mn(III)(porphrin)-TCNE(?-)chain structure similar to those of a family of complexes reported by Miller and co-workers. From a comparison of the static magnetic properties of 1 with other Mn(III)(porphyrin)-TCNE(?-) chains, a magneto-structural correlation between the intrachain magnetic exchange and both the dihedral angle between the mean plane on [Mn(TBPP)(TCNE)] and Mn-N≡C was observed. The ac magnetic susceptibility data of 1 could be fit with the Arrhenius law, indicating that slow magnetic relaxation and ruling out three-dimensional long-range ordering and spin-glass-like behavior. The Cole-Cole plot for 1 was semicircular, verifying that it is an SCM. Therefore, 1 is an ideal single-chain magnet with significantly strong intrachain magnetic exchange interactions beyond the Ising limit.  相似文献

Two new magnetic chain compounds, where the anionic [M(N3)2(HCOO)-]n chains with a 3-fold bridge of two end-on azido and one syn-syn formato ligands are isolated by the cations of [(CH3)2NH2]+, exhibit metamagnetism because of the strong intrachain ferromagnetic coupling versus the weak interchain antiferromagnetic coupling.  相似文献

Neutron diffraction and X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) studies have been performed in La0.5Ca0.5MnO2.5, La0.5Sr0.5MnO2.5 and Nd0.5Sr0.5MnO2.5 oxygen-deficient perovskite compounds obtained by topotactic reduction. They all exhibit a brownmillerite structure with G-type antiferromagnetic ordering. Mn2+, Mn3+ and Mn4+ coexist at the octahedral sites, whereas only Mn2+ is placed in the tetrahedral positions. A magnetic moment of 1.6 microB has been detected at the tetrahedral layers, which can be explained by assuming Mn2+ is in a low-spin configuration.  相似文献
