A compact wavelength demultiplexer is designed for the operation at 1.30 and 1.55 μm wavelengths using the three-dimensional semi-vectorial beam propagation method. The parabolically tapered multimode interference (MMI) coupler based on the deep-etched SiO2/SiON rib waveguide is introduced into the present demultiplexer for reducing the length. The numerical results show that a MMI section of 330.0 μm in length, which is only 76% length of a straight MMI coupler, is achieved with the contrasts of 42.3 and 39.2 dB in quasi-TE mode, and 38.4 and 37.8 dB in quasi-TM mode at wavelengths 1.30 and 1.55 μm, respectively and the insertion losses below 0.2 dB. The modified finite difference scheme is applied to approximate the resulting equations along the transverse directions, in which the discontinuities of the derivatives of magnetic field components Hy and Hx along the vertical and horizontal interfaces, respectively, are involved.  相似文献

用多模干涉原理分析和设计了光通信波长(1.30μm~1.55μm)的Si1-xGex/Si滤波器,并用模的传播分析方法对其传输特性进行了研究。结果发现,在Ge含量x=0.04时,干涉区的脊高和宽度分别为6.35μm和8μm。如果多模干涉区长度LM=2302.5μm,可滤1.30μm而通1.55μm的波长。且具有31dB的对比度和0.01dB的插入损耗;如果多模干涉区长度LM=2512.5μm,可滤1.55μm而通1.30μm的波长。具有16dB的对比度和0.09dB的插入损耗。  相似文献

An integrated-optics multimode-interference 1.3 1.55-mum wavelength division mul tiplexer demultiplexer for optical communication is reported. We have found that the device length can be reduced by adopting a restricted-resonance multimode-interference scheme and a lower beat length ratio. The former allows the device length to be 3 times shorter, and the latter has been found to be able to avoid the wavelength insensitivity of the multimode-interference effects. Modal propagation analysis was used to investigate transmission characteristics of the device. Simulation results show that a demultiplexer with contrasts of 40 dB at 1.3-mum wavelength and 34.5 dB at 1.55 mum can be achieved at an optimum coupler length of 435.5 mum. We have also discussed the fabrication and operation tolerances of the wavelength multiplexer and the effect of the wavelength-dependent refractive index.  相似文献

A 1x2 hollow multimode interference (MMI) coupler based on semiconductor hollow waveguides formed from omnidirectional reflectors (SHOW-ODR) is demonstrated. The device has a shorter coupling length than a conventional silicon-on-insulator MMI coupler. A 2 dB uniformity was achieved at operating wavelengths between 1520 and 1562 nm. The device exhibited a weak polarization dependence in the TE and TM modes.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel MMI coupler, based on general interference, with tapered waveguide geometry has been proposed for reduction of coupling length. The coupling characteristics and power imbalance of the proposed structure are compared with conventional MMI structures by using a mathematical model based on sinusoidal modes. It is seen that the beat length for tapered MMI coupler with angle of taper ∼1.05° is reduced by ∼24% of that of conventional MMI coupler and the coupling characteristics obtained with the mathematical model, match well with those obtained by more sophisticated BPM computer aided design software. The power imbalance for tapered 3 dB MMI coupler is more sensitive to the wavelength than that for conventional 3 dB MMI coupler and variation of power imbalance with fabrication tolerance for both the MMI coupler is almost same.  相似文献

Two types of directional couplers for transverse electric (TE) modes are described: short and multihole couplers, respectively. They selectively pick one mode out of a mode mixture in an overmoded circular waveguide system. Unwanted modes are either statistically kept at low level or are suppressed by destructive interference in the coupling waveguide. Mode selectivity and directivity in multihole couplers oscillate up and down with an increasing number of holes, finally reaching a minimum of approximately 20 dB, unless there are competing modes with rational fractions of the beat wavelength. A multihole coupler for the TE02 mode (28 GHz, 63.4 mm waveguide diameter, 41 holes) and a length of 1.6 m shows a calculated directivity of 68 dB and suppresses the unwanted modes TE01 with 34 dB (24 dB), TE22 with 37 dB (45 dB), and further modes TEm (<5, m<6) with 17 dB to 34 dB in forward direction (figures in parentheses are for unwanted modes propagating in backward direction).A short directional coupler for the TE01 mode (28 GHz, 63.4 mm waveguide diameter) with 16 holes and a length of 230 mm shows a directivity of 55 to 100 dB between 27.9 and 28.1 GHz, suppressing the TE02 mode with 35 to 80 dB, the TE03 mode with 30 to 65 dB, and the TE22 mode with 30 to 70 dB.  相似文献

A 1310 and 1550 nm coarse wavelength multi/demultiplexer based on benzocyclobutene (BCB 4024-40) polymer is demonstrated for the first time. The device is designed based on a combination of general interference and paired interference mechanisms of multimode interference (MMI). It is fabricated on BK7 glass substrate with a thin layer of SiO2 as cover. A cost effective chemical etching technique is used in the fabrication process to take advantage of the photosensitive nature of the polymer. The device length was significantly reduced by adopting the restricted multimode interference scheme, lower beat length ratio and cascaded MMI couplers. The measured crosstalk at 1310 nm was 14.4 dB and at 1550 nm was 20.6 dB. The measured insertion loss is around 3.2-3.5 dB for both ports.  相似文献

The silicon-based three-dimensional hybrid long-range plasmonic waveguide not only supports long-range propagation distance (~mm) but also has an ultra-small modal area (~10?2 μm2) at 1.55 μm. Here, we propose a directional coupler for effective coupling from a dielectric slab-waveguide to the hybrid plasmonic waveguide on a silicon platform. Our simulation results show that the coupler is able to excite hybrid long-range plasmonic mode with short coupling length, low insertion loss, and high extinction ratio. With the arm separation of 0.3 μm, the coupling length can be made 5.2 % of the propagation length of the hybrid plasmonic waveguide, while the insertion loss and extinction ratio are ?0.12 and 22.4 dB, respectively. This coupler offers the potential applications in signal routing between the hybrid long-range plasmonic waveguide and dielectric waveguide in the photonic integrated circuits.  相似文献

In this paper we examine, theoretically as well as experimentally, the influence of a number of design parameters for a 2 × 2 multimode interference (MMI) coupler. We confirm that wide access waveguides are preferable but these should not exceed the width of the MMI. It is shown that the waveguide separation can be chosen in a reasonably wide range and that MMI's can be as short as directional couplers. That the imbalance is less than 0.2 dB if the length is within 5% of the optimum. Experimentally we observe the same variation, but at an imbalance of 0.6 dB. We show that this imbalance can be explained by a stress induced parabolic non-uniformity of the refractive index of the core across the MMI width with a peak variation of 5 × 10–5.  相似文献

Compact In0.67Ga0.33As0.6P0.4/In0.71Ga0.29As0.74P0.26 on InP single ring resonators incorporating 2 × 2 multimode interference (MMI) turning-mirror couplers with cross coupling factor of 0.15 have been demonstrated. The form of race tracks is a 15-degree arc of 260 μm radius joined with a 60-degree arc of 110 μm radius, and finished with another 15-degree arc of 260 μm radius. The MMI turning-mirror coupler of 128 μm in length is used in the single ring resonators, which correspond to free spectral ranges of 82 GHz. A contrast of 4 dB, a finesse of nearly 3 and full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 0.24 nm for the drop port have been achieved in this single ring resonator. From the experimental value Tmax/Tmin of 21 dB, the experiment coupling factor coincides with the simulation.  相似文献

采用精确模式分析方法(EMA)对一种掩埋式折射率差为0.47%的弱限制MMI进行了数值模拟,通过和强限制MMI对比表明,这种弱限制的MMI可以实现良好的均衡性(9.7×10-4dB)和附加损耗(0.13dB),比强限制MMI具有更大的带宽,更好的宽度和长度容差性。虽然这种弱限制MMI的最小附加损耗和最佳均衡性不能在同一长度同时获得,但由于其良好的容差性,在最佳均衡性长度处仍能获得低于0.8dB的附加损耗。用紫外写入波导的方法制作掩埋式结构的弱限制MMI器件是可行的。  相似文献

提出一种基于Si3N4/SiNx/Si3N4三明治结构多模干涉波导的偏振无关1×2解复用器,用于分离1310和1550 nm两个波长.通过合理选择三明治结构中间层SiNx的折射率,可以调节同一波长两个正交偏振态的拍长相等,实现偏振无关;根据多模干涉原理,通过合理选择多模干涉波导的长度与宽度,可以使两个波长的输出像点分别成正像和反像,实现解复用功能.运用三维有限时域差分法进行建模仿真,对结构参数进行优化,并对器件关键结构参数的制作容差进行了分析.结果表明:该器件多模干涉波导的尺寸为4.6μm×227.7μm,插入损耗低至0.18dB,输出波导间的串扰低至–25.7dB, 3dB带宽可达60 nm.另外,本文提出的器件采用Si3N4/SiO2平台,可有效减小波导尺寸,提高集成度,不仅实现了偏振无关,而且结构紧凑、损耗低,在未来的集成光路中具有潜在的应用价值.  相似文献

A 3-dB optical coupler (power splitter) based on a Y-junction waveguide with a channel profile of proton-exchanged lithium niobate has been modeled. Finite difference beam propagation method has been used to investigate light wave propagation in axially varying waveguides. It is found that the structure splits the input power equally at the Y-junction with an efficiency of 99% and an average excess loss ?0.04 dB. The novelty of the coupling structure proposed is its capability to function as a wavelength-independent 3-dB coupler while maintaining very low-power imbalance for widespread optical communication wavelengths of 1.3 and 1.55 µm.  相似文献

The dispersion properties of photonic crystal fibers are calculated by expression of the modal field as a sum of localized orthogonal functions. Even simple designs of these fibers can yield zero dispersion at wavelengths shorter than 1.27 mum when the fibers are single mode, or a large normal dispersion that is suitable for dispersion compensation at 1.55 mum.  相似文献

A novel photonic crystal fiber(PCF) polarization filter is designed and fabricated; it consists of two large apertures coated with gold. The asymmetric structure separates the resonance position in the vertical direction well. Due to the metal layer covering, loss is greatly improved. Finite element method is applied for numerical simulation. The influences of varying gold thickness and varying the diameters and the center positions of the larger apertures on filtering performance are evaluated. Theory of coupling between surface plasma and core mode is introduced. By modulating the parameters, we realize a single polarization filter at 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm. The basal mode loss in the y direction can reach 1408.80 dB/cm at 1.31 μm and 1911.22 dB/cm at 1.55 μm respectively, but basal mode loss in the x direction is relatively small, 0.82 dB/cm and 1.87 dB/cm. In addition, two kinds of broadband polarization filters are proposed. If the fiber length is set to 200 μm,the extinction ratio is greater than 20 dB with width of 570 nm and 490 nm. The filter has simple structure and excellent performance.  相似文献

We generated pulsed quadrature-squeezed light by cross-phase modulation in single-crystal hexagonal CdSe at wavelengths of 1.4 to 1.55mum . We measured 0.4-dB squeezing (0.7 dB is inferred at the crystal) with 100-fs laser pulses. The wavelength and the intensity dependence, as well as variations in the local oscillator configuration, are examined. At higher intensities squeezing is shown to deteriorate owing to competing nonlinear processes.  相似文献

为实现模块化相对论速调管放大器功率、频率和相位的在线测量,对紧凑型高定向性高带宽的定向耦合器进行了仿真和实验研究。利用小孔耦合理论和相位叠加原理进行理论分析,设计了一种双孔紧凑型定向耦合器,在此基础上采用主、副波导正交连接,耦合孔沿轴向和角向二维分布的方法,进一步缩短了耦合器的长度。通过电磁仿真对耦合器各参数进行优化,模拟结果表明:当中心频率为10 GHz时,普通双孔定向耦合器对TM01模式的耦合度为-60.68 dB,在250 MHz的带宽内定向性大于20 dB,此时耦合区长度为3.49 cm。改进型定向耦合器对TM01模式的耦合度为-58.1 dB,在300 MHz的带宽内定向性大于20 dB,此时耦合区长度仅为1.8 cm(约0.6λ)。耦合器的冷腔实验测量结果与仿真结果符合较好。  相似文献

An improved 1 × 4 coupler based on all solid multi-core photonic crystal fiber is proposed and analyzed. The expressions to calculate the coupling length and the coupling efficiency are deduced based on the coupled-mode equations firstly. Then a full-vector finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the coupling length and the coupling efficiency. Next, the propagation characteristics and the performances of the coupler are analyzed through using a full vector beam propagation method (BPM). Research shows that the results derived by FEM agree with that by BPM. The coupling length of the coupler is 4.1 mm at λ = 1.55 μm. A maximum coupling efficiency of 24.96% can be obtained. The coupling ratio is more than 22.5% over a wavelength range of 100 nm. The polarization-dependent loss at λ = 1.55 μm is equal to 0.73 dB. Finally, the influences of the micro-variation of structure parameters and the material refractive index on the working performances of the coupler are investigated.  相似文献

A 1 × 2 optical switch using only one multimode interference (MMI) region is designed and demonstrated in GaAs/AlGaAs. This design makes a single MMI region works as MMI coupler using paired interference at “off” state and symmetric interference at “on” state. By injecting a current of 110 mA, the measured on/off ratio and crosstalk are 23 dB and 33 dB, respectively in the demonstrated device with GaAs/GaAlAs.  相似文献
