光纤拉丝过程中必须对纤丝外径进行精密测控,但是通常用于圆柱形物体动态非接触测量的方法(如相关光通量比较法、电压鉴别法、补偿光通量法等等)精度太低,测量范围难适于光纤测量。本文介绍了四种测量高速运动的光纤外径很有效的非接触式激光光学测量方法:1.前向光散射法。它测量的是激光束射到光纤上的散射角和散射条纹;2.后向光散射法。它测量后向散射条纹的间隔; 3.直接衍射法。它测量激光束直射到光纤上产生的衍射图象;4.计量光脉冲法。它测量与光纤外径有关的光脉冲效。文中还对此四种方法进行了讨论。  相似文献

We have developed a simple method to analyze the growth process of fiber gratings (FGs) in the core of photorefractive optical fibers. It is based on the exponential saturation model and it takes into account the type of photosensitive fiber used, the exposure times, and the incident optical power. The photorefractive fiber has been characterized by two parameters: the saturation photoinduced refractive index change and the saturation energy, which can be obtained experimentally. We carry out a numerical investigation for the growth process of a uniform FG. The experimentally observed phenomena of shifting the Bragg optical frequency with exposure times and the appearance of higher-order Bragg resonances are predicted and discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, recent progress in the investigation of photosensitivities of polymer optical fibers and the development of polymer optical fiber grating is reported. Photosensitivities in various polymer fibers, including doped and undoped, multimode and single-mode polymer fibers, have been experimentally characterized and evaluated for fiber grating application. In particular, the wavelength dependence of material absorption and photosensitivity has been found essential to the fabrication of polymer optical fiber grating. Based on the results of photosensitivity research, polymer optical fiber gratings have been successfully fabricated. More importantly, polymer optical fiber grating has been demonstrated highly tunable, with a tuning range more than 70 nm. The unique feature of high tunability in polymer optical fiber grating has great potential in various applications including optical fiber WDM systems and fiber sensor systems. Several important issues that remain to be investigated will also be discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper describes the recent progress in research and development of fiber optics in Japan. A review is presented of recent developments in fiber manufacturing, cabling, and fiber splicing. Experimental results are given for an optical communication system with optoelectronic components. Theoretical analysis and fundamental experiments are not included, nor are research activities in such devices as lasers or in such applications as those in medical fields. Transmission characteristics of optical fibers—in particular loss and pulse spreading—are assessed from the viewpoint of their structures. Various methods of fiber strengthening and structuring cables are described from the viewpoint of mechanical strength. Coupling efficiencies of detachable connectors and methods of permanent fiber splicing are described. Experimental results on optical fiber communication systems are presented and coupling techniques between a light source and an optical fiber are described.  相似文献

A novel multiplexing technique for fiber optic communications has been developed that supports multiple channels of optical energy inside an optical fiber by confining each individual channel to a unique spatial location. These channels can operate at exactly the same wavelength as well as differing wavelengths. The basic operating principle and experimental results for spatial domain multiplexed fiber optic communication systems is presented here. This technique adds a new dimension to currently available multiplexing schemes and has the potential to increase the bandwidth of existing and futuristic optical fiber systems by multiple folds.  相似文献

A 40 Gbit/s optical 3R regenerator is proposed and demonstrated. The 3R regenerator consists of a dual-ring injection mode-locked fiber ring laser as the clock recovery module and an electroabsorption modulator (EAM) as the decision gate. The clock recovery module extracts the optical short pulse clock with low timing jitter from degraded 40 Gbit/s optical data streams, while the decision gate restores their signal quality. A numerical model describing the cross-absorption modulation effect in a bulk EAM is developed to explore the operating conditions, such as bias voltage, pump signal power. The timing jitter tolerance for the EAM optical gate is also investigated. Significantly improvement of BER is obtained from 40 Gbit/s RZ signals which are degraded by polarization mode dispersion or chromatic dispersion.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an ultra narrow band fiber grating filter which is composed of two optical circulators and two fiber Bragg gratings (FBG). Through numerical simulation and experiment investigation, a narrow-band output spectrum with 1064 nm center wavelength and 0.017 nm bandwidth is obtained. Significant output power excursions in cascades of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) can cause serious problems in wavelength division multilexing (WDM) packet-switched burst-mode networks. Signal power excursions more serious than those induced by channel addition/removal in circuit switched networks can arise when data on the WDM channels is highly variable in nature. Self-similar traffic can be subject to large variation in EDFA gain. In order to prevent unacceptable error bursts, due, for example, to channel power becoming too low to preserve adequate eye opening or exceeding thresholds for optical nonlinearities, the channel power should be maintained constant. In this letter, it is shown that the sizable power and noise figure swings arising in a cascade of EDFAs with WDM burst-mode packet-switched networks with self-similar traffic can be effectively suppressed when highly inverted amplifiers are employed. The analysis is based on the application of a numerical model, which solves the transcendental equation for length averaged metastable level population of an EDFA.  相似文献

光突发交换是面向下一代互联网的光交换模式.讨论了异步光突发交换系统的交换控制策略以及相应光缓存的优化配置策略.除了传统预约模式的交换策略,还研究了非预约和改进型预约模式,它们的性能评估由计算机仿真给出.结果表明:在条件相当情况下,改进型预约模式具有最低的丢包率.同时光缓存的配置对上述几类交换控制策略的性能都有很大影响,仿真结果指出:光缓存的粒度对系统性能具有重要影响,所讨论的几类交换模式都存在最佳时延粒度,研究结果对光交换矩阵的设计有指导意义.  相似文献

Using feedback theory, we analyze the gain of an all-optical gain-clamped praseodymium-doped fluoride fiber amplifier (AOGC PDFFA) for eight-channel multiwavelength operation. We demonstrate by numerical simulation that gain stabilization is achieved when the open-loop gain is higher than the feedback path attenuation. If this condition is fulfilled, the gain stabilizes to a value equal to the feedback path attenuation and is not influenced by the pump power, input signal power, number of channels, doped fiber length, or any other doped fiber parameter. In our setup the AOGC PDFFA noise figure is 0.12 dB lower than the open-loop PDFFA noise figure.  相似文献

A novel optical recirculating filter for RF applications is described, which exploits a specially designed fiber grating with a ramped spectral profile to enable optimization of the filter response. The design overcomes the limitations imposed by loss in conventional fiber recirculating filters. Additionally, a tunable free spectral range is demonstrated by using the device in a grating array. 提出了两种适用于光突发交换网的可编程光缓存器结构:交叉型和多端口开关型.两种结构都能满足突发包缓存的超长性和可变性的要求,且结构简单紧凑,成本低,可扩展.交叉型缓存器通过指定信号在每个子缓存模块的光纤环中的循环次数即能实现可变时间的延迟.多端口开关型缓存器通过指定信号在两个多端口开关相应端口与所接光纤延迟线组成的光纤环中的循环次数实现可变时间的延迟.仿真结果表明,两种可编程光缓存器都能对光突发包实现ns级指定时间延迟,可用于解决光突发交换网突发包的冲突问题.  相似文献

In this work, the author has demonstrated cross-sectional imaging of a retina of an ex vivo fish sample using a common path frequency domain optical coherence tomography at 0.8 μm range. It has been introduced that an integrated surgical hypodermic needle fiber probe can stabilize the flexible glass optical fiber and provides a close proximity to the specimen for intraoperative image guiding. In addition, the light source characteristics were matched to the common path interferometer while operating in the aqueous medium (saline solution), in order to mimic the in vivo condition, in that it shows greater bandwidth and shorter center wavelength for larger input current or output power to sustain the appropriate level of coherence reference peak by the partial reflection at the glass fiber probe interface.  相似文献

We report the results from the characterization and optimization of a stable erbium-doped fiber ring laser that uses two optical filters. The observed laser performance and the measured longitudinal mode patterns are presented. The influence of the combination of the two optical filters on the mode suppression is evaluated. We obtained the matched condition for operation of the optical filters that most improved the laser performance. An estimate of the relative intensity noise due to the introduction of the laser in a communication system is also presented. As a consequence of the mode suppression, a sharp laser linewidth narrowing is con firmed.  相似文献
