High cis content (81-99%) cis-transoidal polyphenylacetylene (PPA) jacketed with amphiphilic self-assembling dendrons, poly[(3,4-3,5)mG2-4EBn] with m = 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and (S)-3,7-dimethyloctyl, were synthesized by Rh(C triple bond CPh)(nbd)(PPh(3))(2) (nbd = 2,5-norbornadiene)/N,N-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) catalyzed polymerization of macromonomers. The resulting cylindrical PPAs self-organize into hexagonal columnar lattices with intracolumnar order (Phi(h)(io)) and without (Phi(h)). The polymers with m = 12, 14, and 16 exhibit also a hexagonal columnar crystal phase (Phi(h,k)). The reversible Phi(h,k)-to-Phi(h)(io)-to- Phi(h) phase transition in these dendronized PPAs was analyzed by a combination of differential scanning calorimetry and small and wide-angle X-ray diffraction experiments performed on powder and oriented fibers. In the Phi(h,k) and Phi(h)(io) phases, the dendronized PPAs form helical porous columns. The helical pore disappears in the Phi(h) phase. This change is accompanied by a decrease of the external column diameter that is induced by stretching of the polymer backbone along the axis of the cylinder. The helix sense of the porous PPA is selected by homochiral alkyl dendritic tails. This transition is generated by an unprecedented conversion of the PPA backbone from the cis-cisoidal conformation in the Phi(h,k) and Phi(h)(io) phases to the cis-transoidal conformation in the Phi(h) phase. Under the same conditions, the pristine cis-PPA undergoes cis-trans isomerization and irreversible intramolecular 6pi electrocyclization of 1,3-cis,5-hexatriene sequences followed by chain cleavage. These processes are eliminated in the dendronized cis-PPA below its decomposition temperature.  相似文献

The first example of a self-assembling phenylpropyl ether based dendronized polymer has been reported and its preferred helical handedness has been determined. Dendronized polymer poly(10) and its nondendritic analogue poly(8) are high-cis-content polyphenylacetylenes (PPAs) prepared by using [Rh(nbd)Cl]2/NEt3 (nbd: 2,5-norbornadiene). Both polymers possess a stereocenter in their side chain, which selects a preferred helical handedness. Based on negative exciton chirality observed in the CD spectra of poly(10), we have designated this molecule as a right-handed helical polymer, which persists over a wide temperature range. Poly(10) self-organizes into both Phiioh and Phih lattices in bulk. The Phiioh-to-Phih transition is associated with thermoreversible cis-cisoidal to cis-transoidal isomerization of the helical PPA, accompanied by a dramatic decrease in the column diameter and a decrease in the pi-stacking correlation length along the column. A model for the right-handed helical dendronized PPA has been proposed wherein dendrons from adjacent column strata interdigitate to effectively fill space.  相似文献

Structural and retrostructural analysis of helical dendronized polyacetylenes (i.e., self-organizable polyacetylenes containing first generation dendrons or minidendrons as side groups) synthesized by the polymerization of minidendritic acetylenes with [Rh(nbd)Cl]2 (nbd = 2,5-norbornadiene) reveals an approximately 10% change in the average column stratum thickness (l) of the cylindrical macromolecules with a chiral periphery, through which a strong preference for a single-handed screw-sense is communicated. The cylindrical macromolecules reversibly interconvert between a three-dimensional (3D) centered rectangular lattice (Phi r-c,k) exhibiting long-range intracolumnar helical order at lower temperatures and a two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal columnar lattice (Phi h) with short-range helical order at higher temperatures. A polymer containing chiral, nonracemic peripheral alkyl tails is found to have a larger l as compared to the achiral polymers. In methyl cyclohexane solution, the same polymer exhibits an intense signal in circular dichroism (CD) spectra, whose intensity decreases upon heating. The observed change in l indicates that the chiral tails alter the polymer conformation from that of the corresponding polymer with achiral side chains. This change in conformation results in a relatively large free energy difference (DeltaGh) favoring one helix-sense over the other (per monomer residue). The capacity to distort the polymer conformation and corresponding free energy is related to the population of branches in the chiral tails and their distance from the polymer backbone by comparison to recently reported first and second generation dendronized polyphenylacetylenes.  相似文献

The synthesis of three libraries of self-assembling hybrid dendrons containing a primary structure based on the sequence (4-3,4-3,5)12G2-CO(2)CH(3) generated from benzyl ether, biphenyl-4-methyl ether, and AB(2) repeat units constructed from (AB)(y)--AB(2) combinations of benzyl ethers, is reported. The structural and retrostructural analysis of their supramolecular dendrimers facilitated the discovery of new architectural principles that lead to the assembly of functional helical pores. The self-assembly of an example of hybrid dendron containing -H, -CO(2)CH(3), -CH(2)OH, -COOH, -COOK, -CONH(2), -CONHCH(3), -CO(2)(CH(2))(2)OCH(3), -(R) and -(S)-CONHCH(CH(3))C(2)H(5) as X-groups at the apex demonstrated that these self-assembling dendrons provide the simplest strategy for the design and synthesis of porous columns containing a diversity of hydrophilic and hydrophobic functional groups in the inner part of the pore. The results reported here expand the scope and limitations of dendrons available for the self-assembly of functional pores that previously were generated mostly from dendritic dipeptides, to simpler architectures based on hybrid dendrons.  相似文献

Twelve chiral and achiral self-assembling dendrons have been grafted onto a [60]fullerene hexa-adduct core by copper-catalyzed alkyne azide “click” cycloaddition. The structure adopted by these compounds was determined by the self-assembling peripheral dendrons. These twelve dendrons mediate the self-organisation of the dendronized [60]fullerene into a disc-shaped structure containing the [60]fullerene in the centre. The fullerene-containing discs self-organise into helical supramolecular columns with a fullerene nanowire-like core, forming a 2D columnar hexagonal periodic array. These unprecedented supramolecular structures and their assemblies are expected to provide new developments in chiral complex molecular systems and their application to organic electronics and solar cells.  相似文献

The molecular structure of helical supramolecular dendrimers generated from self-assembling dendrons and dendrimers and from self-organizable dendronized polymers was elucidated for the first time by the simulation of the X-ray diffraction patterns of their oriented fibers. These simulations were based on helical diffraction theory applied to simplified atomic helical models, followed by Cerius2 calculations based on their complete molecular helical structures. Hundreds of samples were screened until a library containing 14 supramolecular dendrimers and dendronized polymers provided a sufficient number of helical features in the X-ray diffraction pattern of their oriented fibers. This combination of techniques provided examples of single-9(2) and -11(3) helices, triple-6(1), -8(1), -9(1), and -12(1) helices, and an octa-32(1) helix that were assembled from crownlike dendrimers, hollow and nonhollow supramolecular crownlike dendrimers, hollow and nonhollow supramolecular disklike dendrimers, and hollow and nonhollow supramolecular and macromolecular helicene-like architectures. The method elaborated here for the determination of the molecular helix structure was transplanted from the field of structural biology and will be applicable to other classes of synthetic helical assemblies. The determination of the molecular structure of helical supramolecular assemblies is expected to provide an additional level of precision in the design of helical functional assemblies resembling those from biological systems.  相似文献

The living ring-opening polymerization of l-lactide was carried out by using organocatalyst to synthesize the molecular weight controlled poly(l-lactide) with an phenylacetylenyl end group (HCCPLLA), then the homopolymerization of HCCPLLA was performed by using two different rhodium catalysts. Low molecular weight poly-PLLA6-1 (Mw,SEC-MALLS = 46,700) was synthesized by using Rh(nbd)BPh4 as the catalyst, and higher molecular weight poly-PLLA6-2 (Mw,SEC-MALLS = 471,000) was synthesized by using the [Rh(nbd)Cl]2/Et3N catalyst system. Then high molecular weight poly-PLLA20, poly-PLLA29, and poly-PLLA68 were successfully synthesized by using the [Rh(nbd)Cl]2/Et3N catalyst system. The α values of the poly-PLLAs using [Rh(nbd)Cl]2/Et3N catalyst system were all in the range of 0.6–0.8, this means that these polymers possess linear flexible chain. It is concluded that [Rh(nbd)Cl]2/Et3N was more suitable for the synthesis of the cylindrical polymer brush, poly-PLLA with high molecular weight. The analyses of the CD spectra indicated that poly-PLLA possesses a predominantly one-handed helical conformation, temperature and solvents had significant influences on the helical structure of poly-PLLA.  相似文献

The synthesis, structural, and retrostructural analysis of two libraries containing 16 first and second generation C(3)-symmetric self-assembling dendrimers based on dendrons connected at their apex via trisesters and trisamides of 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid is reported. A combination of X-ray diffraction and CD/UV analysis methods demonstrated that their C(3)-symmetry modulates different degrees of packing on the periphery of supramolecular structures that are responsible for the formation of chiral helical supramolecular columns and spheres self-organizable in a diversity of three-dimensional (3D) columnar, tetragonal, and cubic lattices. Two of these periodic arrays, a 3D columnar hexagonal superlattice and a 3D columnar simple orthorhombic chiral lattice with P222(1) symmetry, are unprecedented for supramolecular dendrimers. A thermal-reversible inversion of chirality was discovered in helical supramolecular columns. This inversion is induced, on heating, by the change in symmetry from a 3D columnar simple orthorhombic chiral lattice to a 3D columnar hexagonal array and, on cooling, by the change in symmetry from a 2D hexagonal to a 2D centered rectangular lattice, both exhibiting intracolumnar order. A first-order transition from coupled columns with long helical pitch, to weakly or uncorrelated columns with short helical pitch that generates a molecular rotator, was also discovered. The torsion angles of the molecular rotator are proportional to the change in temperature, and this effect is amplified in the case of the C(3)-symmetric trisamide supramolecular dendrimers forming H-bonds along their column. The structural changes reported here can be used to design complex functions based on helical supramolecular dendrimers with different degree of packing on their periphery.  相似文献

Cylindrical dendrimers of first, second, and third generations with side dendrons based on L-aspartic acid which are attached to poly(styrenesulfonic acid) chains via ionic bonds are studied by molecular hydrodynamic, optical, and electrooptical measurements. Macromolecules of the said dendrimers demonstrate significant kinetic rigidity in external electric and hydrodynamic fields simultaneously with moderate equilibrium chain rigidity. The comparative analysis of the experimental data on various cylindrical dendrimers with the polyvinyl backbone and L-aspartic acid-based dendrons is performed. It has been shown that, in solvents not disturbing intramolecular hydrogen bonds between side dendrons, the conformational and dynamic properties of various cylindrical dendrimers are similar. The molecular characteristics of cylindrical dendrimers in non-dissociating solvents are insignificantly affected by the mode of dendron attachment to the backbone (covalent or ionic binding).  相似文献

[reaction: see text] A new series of self-assembling G1-G3 dendronized dimers bearing oligoether dendrons and a dimeric 2-ureido-4-pyrimidinone (UPy) quadruple hydrogen-bonding core were prepared and characterized. It was found that the nonpolar microenvironment created by the dendrons preserved the UPy unit in its DDAA tautomeric form. As a result, the stabilities of the dimers were exceptionally strong for all three generations (K(dim) > 2 x 10(7) M(-)(1) in CDCl(3) at 25 degrees C). Furthermore, the steric size of the dendrons did not exhibit a significant effect on their dimerization behavior.  相似文献

Structural analysis of three libraries of up to five generations of self-assembling dendrons based on AB(3), AB(2), and combinations of AB(3) with AB(2) building blocks (Percec et al. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2001, 123, 1302) facilitated the discovery of several nanoscale lattices previously unknown for organic compounds (3-D Pm3n cubic, 3-D P4(2)/mnm tetragonal, and a crystallographically forbidden 12-fold symmetry liquid quasicrystal) and provided fundamental correlations between the molecular structure of the dendron and the shape and the diameter of the supramolecular dendrimers which, in these experiments, were limited to less than 75 A. That study concluded that alternative design principles should be elaborated for the assembly of supramolecular dendrimers of larger dimensions. Here we report design principles, synthesis and analysis of first and higher generations AB(3) and AB(2) self-assembling dendrons, based on various primary structures, and combinations of (AB)(y)-AB(3) and (AB)(y)-AB(2) (i.e., from nondendritic AB where y = 1 to 11 and dendritic AB(3) and AB(2)) building blocks that produced the largest structural (including six new lattices) and dimensional (100 to 217 A diameter) diversity of supramolecular dendrimers.  相似文献

Treatment of bis(2-picolyl)amine (bpa) with [{Rh(nbd)(mu-OMe)}2] leads to the unexpected and unique redox asymmetric dinuclear Rh-I,Rh+I complex [{Rh(nbd)}2(bpa-2H)] (2) with a pi-coordinating imine bound to a tetrahedral low valent rhodate(-I). Mono-oxygenation of the deprotonated bpa ligand in 2 by O2 leads to the mononuclear carboxamido complex [Rh(nbd)(bpam-H)] (3) (bpam = N-(2-picolyl)picolinamide). The second O atom of O2 ends up as a hydroxo fragment in [{Rh(nbd)(mu-OH)}2].  相似文献

The synthesis of a library containing 12 conical dendrons that self-assemble into hollow spherical supramolecular dendrimers is reported. The design principles for this library were accessed by development of a method that allows the identification of hollow spheres, followed by structural and retrostructural analysis of their Pm3n cubic lattice. The first hollow spherical supramolecular dendrimer was made by replacing the tapered dendron, from the previously reported tapered dendritic dipeptide that self-assembled into helical pores, with its constitutional isomeric conical dendron. This strategy generated a conical dendritic dipeptide that self-assembled into a hollow spherical supramolecular dendrimer that self-organizes in a Pm3n cubic lattice. Other examples of hollow spheres were assembled from conical dendrons without a dipeptide at their apex. These are conical dendrons originated from tapered dendrons containing additional benzyl ether groups at their apex. The inner part of the hollow sphere assembled from the dipeptide resembles the path of a spherical helix or loxodrome and, therefore, is chiral. The spheres assembled from other conical dendrons are nonhelical, even when they contain stereocenters on the alkyl groups from their periphery. Functionalization of the apex of the conical dendrons with diethylene glycol allowed the encapsulation of LiOTf and RbOTf in the center of the hollow sphere. These experiments showed that hollow spheres function as supramolecular dendritic capsules and therefore are expected to display functions complementary to those of other related molecular and supramolecular structures.  相似文献

Thermal reactions between [RuCl2(diene)]n (diene = 2,5-norbornadiene, nbd; 1,5-cyclooctadiene, cod) with an excess of N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylene diamine (tmeda) afforded derivatives [RuCl2(diene)(tmeda)] (diene = nbd, 1; cod, 2) as a mixture of cis and trans isomers. When thermolysis was performed under H2 mixtures of hydride species [RuCl(H)(diene)(tmeda)] (diene = nbd, 3; cod, 4) and the bis-tmeda adduct trans-[RuCl2(tmeda)2] (5) were obtained in different ratios depending upon the reaction conditions and reaction times. Heating polymeric Ru(II) precursors in toluene in the presence of a 5-fold excess of the bulkier N,N,N',N'-tetraethylethylene diamine (teeda) resulted in a rare diamine dealkylation process with formation of trans-[RuCl2(nbd)(Et2NCH2CH2NHEt)] (6) and trans-[RuCl2(cod)(EtHNCH2CH2NHEt)] (7) in high yields. The presence of N-H functionalities in the coordinated diamine ligands of 6 and 7 was unambiguously established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The dealkylation process of the teeda ligand seems to proceed intramolecularly as shown by solution NMR studies performed with the soluble Ru(II) precursors trans-[RuCl2(amine)2(diene)] (diene = nbd, amine = morpholine, 9; diene = cod, amine = Et2NH, 10). The above complexes [RuCl2(diene)(diamine)] have been tested as precatalysts in the hydrogenation of ketones both for transfer as well as direct hydrogenation, the latter route being the most effective.  相似文献

The Rh(nbd)(l-proline) (nbd = 2,5-norbornadiene) catalyst was synthesised with l-proline as ligand. The achiral monomer phenylacetylene, having two hydroxyl groups and a dodecyl group (DoDHPA), was polymerised for the first time using an isolated chiral Rh(nbd)(l-proline) as catalyst to afford polymers of Mr of 28.5 × 104 and 36.2 × 104. The resulting polymers exhibited the Cotton effect at wavelengths assignable to the main chain, indicating that the polymers adopted one-handed helical conformation. These findings suggest that the rhodium complex with chiral amine may be the true active species for helix-sense-selective polymerisation (HSSP) of DoDHPA.  相似文献

Semifluorinated first-generation self-assembling dendrons attached via a flexible spacer to electron-donor molecules induce pi-stacking of the donors in the center of a supramolecular helical pyramidal column. These helical pyramidal columns self-organize in various columnar liquid crystal phases that mediate self-processing of large single crystal liquid crystal domains of columns and self-repair their intracolumnar structural defects. In addition, all supramolecular columns exhibit a columnar phase at lower temperatures that maintains the helical pyramidal columnar supramolecular structure and displays higher intracolumnar order than that in the liquid crystals phases. The results described here demonstrate the universality of this concept, the power of the fluorous phase or the fluorophobic effect in self-assembly and the unexpected generality of pyramidal liquid crystals.  相似文献

N-Propargylbenzamides 1-7 were polymerized with (nbd)Rh(+)[eta(6)-C(6)H(5)B(-)(C(6)H(5))(3)] to afford polymers with moderate molecular weights (M(n) = 26,000-51,000) in good yields. The (1)H NMR spectra demonstrated that the polymers have fairly stereoregular structures (81-88 % cis). The optically active polymers, poly(1) and poly(2), were proven by their intense CD signals and large optical rotations to adopt a stable helical conformation with an excess of one-handed screw sense when heated in CHCl(3) or toluene. The sign of Cotton effect could be controlled by varying the content in the copolymers of either chiral bulky 1 and achiral nonbulky 3, or chiral nonbulky 2 and achiral bulky 7. The smaller the pendant group in the copolymerization of achiral monomers with 1, the more easily did the preferential helical sense change with the copolymer composition. However, the copolymers of chiral nonbulky 2 and achiral nonbulky 3 did not change the helical sense, irrespective of the composition. The free energy differences between the plus and minus helical states, as well as the excess free energy of the helix reversal, of those chiral-achiral random copolymers were estimated by applying a modified Ising model.  相似文献

Chiral-bridged rod molecules (CBRs) that consisted of bis(penta-p-phenylene) conjugated to an opened or closed chiral bridging group as a rigid segment and oligoether dendrons as flexible segments were synthesized and characterized. In the bulk state, both molecules self-assemble into a hexagonal columnar structure, as confirmed by X-ray scatterings and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations. Interestingly, these structures display opposite Cotton effects in the chromophore of the aromatic unit in spite of the same chirality (R,R) of the chiral bridging groups. The molecules were observed to self-assemble into cylindrical micellar aggregates in aqueous solution, as confirmed by light scattering and TEM investigations, and exhibit intense signals in the circular dichroism (CD) spectra, which are indicative of one-handed helical conformations. The CD spectra of each molecule showed opposite signals to each other, which were similar to those in the bulk. Notably, when the opened CBR was added to a solution of closed CBRs up to a certain concentration, the CD signal of the closed CBR was amplified. This implies that both molecules co-assemble into a one-handed helical structure because the opened chiral bridge is conformationally flexible, which is inverted to co-assemble with the closed CBR. These results demonstrate that small structural modifications of the chiral moiety can transfer the chiral information to a supramolecular assembly in the opposite way.  相似文献

Attaching dendritically branched side chains to each repeat unit of a linear polymer produces molecular building blocks of nanometer‐sized dimensions called dendronized polymers. The structure of these complex molecular architectures is highly tunable and, therefore, of interest for a wide range of potential applications. The first examples of dendronized polymers prepared by living ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of oxanorbornenedicarboximide macromonomers with poly(alkyl ether) dendrons are reported. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering experiments on bulk samples confirm that the diameter of the individual cylindrical polymers can be tailored by the choice of dendron generation or the length of the hydrocarbon peripheral group. Analysis of the SAXS data based on a core‐shell model indicates that although the diameter of the cylinder increases with generation, the size of the core does not change; this suggests that these dendrons only loosely encapsulate the polymer backbone. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The design and preparation of new polyester dendrimer, poly(ethylene oxide) hybrid systems for drug delivery and related therapeutic applications, are described. These systems consist of two covalently attached polyester dendrons, where one dendron provides multiple functional handles for the attachment of therapeutically active moieties, while the other is used for attachment of solubilizing poly(ethylene oxide) chains. By varying the generation of the dendrons and the mass of the poly(ethylene oxide) chains, the molecular weight, architecture, and drug loading can be readily controlled. The "bow-tie" shaped dendritic scaffold was synthesized using both convergent and divergent methods, with orthogonal protecting groups on the periphery of the two dendrons. Poly(ethylene oxide) was then attached to the periphery of one dendron using an efficient coupling procedure. A small library of eight carriers with molecular weights ranging from about 20 kDa to 160 kDa were prepared and characterized by various techniques, confirming their well-defined structures.  相似文献
