Spectroscopy and predissociation dynamics of (H2O)2 and Ar-H2O are investigated with vibrationally mediated dissociation (VMD) techniques, wherein upsilon(OH) = 2 overtones of the complexes are selectively prepared with direct infrared pumping, followed by 193 nm photolysis of the excited H2O molecules. As a function of relative laser timing, the photolysis breaks H2O into OH and H fragments either (i) directly inside the complex or (ii) after the complex undergoes vibrational predissociation, with the nascent quantum state distribution of the OH photofragment probed via laser-induced fluorescence. This capability provides the first rotationally resolved spectroscopic analysis of (H2O)2 in the first overtone region and vibrational predissociation dynamics of water dimer and Ar-water clusters. The sensitivity of the VMD approach permits several upsilon(OH) = 2 overtone bands to be observed, the spectroscopic assignment of which is discussed in the context of recent anharmonic theoretical calculations.  相似文献

Exclusively selective OD bond dissociation of HOD has been demonstrated by the ultraviolet photodissociation at 243.1 nm through the fourth overtone state of the OD stretching mode (5nu(OD)). Branching ratio between the OH and OD bond dissociation channels has been determined by detecting H and D atoms, utilizing a (2+1) resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) process. The OD bond dissociation has been solely observed with the branching ratio phi(D+OH)/phi(H+OD)>12, which has been determined by the detection limit for the H atom. Time-dependent wave-packet calculations reveal two important features for the highly selective OD bond dissociation: (1) strong local-mode character of the 5nu(OD) state and (2) limitation of the total excitation energy lower than the saddle point between the OH and OD dissociation channels in the A state. Additionally, the recoil velocity and angular distribution of the nascent D atom are roughly evaluated by analyzing the Doppler-resolved REMPI spectrum. Based on these results, the dynamics of the selective OD dissociation has been discussed in detail.  相似文献

Photodissociation dynamics of D(2)O in the B?((1)A(1)) state at different photolysis wavelengths have been investigated using the D-atom Rydberg "tagging" time-of-flight (TOF) technique, in combination with a tunable vacuum ultraviolet photolysis light source. TOF spectra of the D-atom product from the D(2)O photodissociation in both parallel and perpendicular polarizations have been measured. Product kinetic energy distributions and angular distributions have been derived from these TOF spectra. From these distributions, internal state distributions of the OD product as well as the OD quantum state specific angular anisotropy parameters have been derived. Two product channels governed by distinct dissociation dynamics have been clearly observed in the B?((1)A(1)) state photodissociation: ground electronic state radical product OD(X (2)Π) + D and excited electronic state OD(A (2)Σ(+)) + D. The OD(A) + D channel proceeds via adiabatic pathway on the B?((1)A(1)) state surface, producing rovibrational excitation in the OD(A) product, while the OD(X) + D channel is generated through nonadiabatic pathway mainly via conical intersections between the B?((1)A(1)) and the X?((1)A(1)) state surfaces. Due to strong angular force induced by the conical intersections, the OD(X) product is extremely hot in the rotational excitation close to the energy limit (N ~ 50 for v = 0). However, the vibrational excitation is cold in the OD(X) product with dominant population in the ground vibrational state v = 0. Detailed experimental results at different photolysis wavelengths show that at higher energy the unstable periodic orbit, from which dissociation starts, on the B? state has stronger excitation degree of the OD internal state. The negative angular anisotropy parameters of the OD(A) products suggest that the angular forces in this adiabatic dissociation pathway from these periodic orbits have changed the original angular distribution of the D(2)O molecule excited by the B?((1)A(1))←X?((1)A(1)) parallel transition.  相似文献

Results of multiple configuration quantum/classical simulations of the dynamics of Ar x H2O photodissociation are reported. In agreement with experimental studies of Nesbitt and co-workers [J. Chem. Phys. 2000, 112, 7449], we find that the OH products emerge rotationally excited, compared to the dissociation of bare H2O. The wavelength dependence of the total cross section and the energy transfer to the argon atom are also investigated. The trends are interpreted in terms of features in the Ar x H2O A state potential surface.  相似文献

We report measurement and analysis of the photodissociation spectrum of hydroxymethyl hydroperoxide (HOCH(2)OOH) and its partially deuterated analogue, HOCD(2)OOH, in the OH-stretching region. Spectra are obtained by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in the 1nu(OH) and 2nu(OH) regions, and by laser induced fluorescence detection of the OH fragment produced from dissociation of HOCH(2)OOH initiated by excitation of the 4nu(OH) and 5nu(OH) overtone regions (action spectroscopy). A one-dimensional local-mode model of each OH chromophore is used with ab initio calculated OH-stretching potential energy and dipole moment curves at the coupled-cluster level of theory. Major features in the observed absorption and photodissociation spectra are explained by our local-mode model. In the 4nu(OH) region, explanation of the photodissocation spectrum requires a nonuniform quantum yield, which is estimated by assuming statistical energy distribution in the excited state. Based on the estimated dissociation threshold, overtone photodissociation is not expected to significantly influence the atmospheric lifetime of hydroxymethyl hydroperoxide.  相似文献

The photoionization and photodissociation dynamics of H(2) and D(2) in selected rovibrational levels of the B (1)Sigma(u) (+) and C (1)Pi(u) states have been investigated by velocity map ion imaging. The selected rotational levels of the B (1)Sigma(u) (+) and C (1)Pi(u) states are prepared by three-photon excitation from the ground state. The absorption of fourth photon results in photoionization to produce H(2)(+) X (2)Sigma(g)(+) or photodissociation to produce a ground-state H(1s) atom and an excited H atom with n >or= 2. The H(2) (+) ion can be photodissociated by absorption of a fifth photon. The resulting H(+) or D(+) ion images provide information on the vibrational state dependence of the photodissociation angular distribution of the molecular ion. The excited H(n >or= 2) atoms produced by the neutral dissociation process can also be ionized by the absorption of a fifth photon. The resulting ion images provide insight into the excited state branching ratios and angular distributions of the neutral photodissociation process. While the experimental ion images contain information on both the ionic and neutral processes, these can be separated based on constraints imposed on the fragment translational energies. The angular distribution of the rings in the ion images indicates that the neutral dissociation of molecular hydrogen and its isotopes is quite complex, and involves coupling to both doubly excited electronic states and the dissociation continua of singly excited Rydberg states.  相似文献

The dynamics of photodissociation of acetoxime at 193 nm, leading to the formation of (CH3)2C=N and OH fragments, has been investigated. The nascent OH radicals, which are both rotationally and vibrationally excited, were probed by laser photolysis-laser induced fluorescence technique. OH fragments in both v" = 1 and v" = 0 vibrational states were detected with a ratio of population in the higher to lower level of 0.07+/-0.01. The rotational temperatures of v" = 0 and 1 levels of OH radicals are 2650+/-150 K and 1290+/-20 K, respectively. More than 30% of the available energy, i.e., 115+/-21 kJ mol(-1) is partitioned into the relative translational energy of the fragments. The results of excited electronic state and transition state calculations at the configuration interaction with single electronic excitation level suggest that the dissociation takes place with an exit barrier of approximately 126 kJ mol(-1) at the triplet state (T2) potential energy surface, formed by internal conversions/intersystem crossing from the initially populated S2 state. Using the calculated transition state geometry and its energy, the observed energy distribution pattern can be reproduced by the hybrid model within experimental uncertainties. The presence of an exit barrier is further supported by the observation of N-OH dissociation upon 248 nm excitation, where the relative translational energy of the fragments is found to be approximately 96 kJ mol(-1). The photodissociation dynamics of acetoxime is compared with C-OH dissociation in enols and carboxylic acid and N-OH dissociation in nitrous acid. The observed emission (lambda(max)=430 nm) and the N-OH dissociation dynamics indicate crossing of the initially populated state to an emissive state of acetoxime, which is different from the dissociative state.  相似文献

We have studied the photodissociation dynamics of expansion-cooled BrO radical both above (278-281.5 nm) and below (355 nm) the A (2)Pi(3/2) state threshold using velocity map ion imaging. A recently developed late-mixing flash pyrolytic reactor source was utilized to generate an intense BrO radical molecular beam. The relative electronic product branching ratios at 355 nm and from 278 to 281.5 nm were determined. We have investigated the excited state dynamics based on both the product branching and the photofragment angular distributions. We find that above the O((1)D(2)) threshold the contribution of the direct excitation to states other than the A (2)Pi(3/2) state and the role of curve crossing is considerably larger in BrO compared to that observed for ClO, in agreement with recent theoretical studies. The measurement of low velocity photofragments resulting from photodissociation just above the O((1)D(2)) threshold provides an accurate and direct determination of the A (2)Pi(3/2) state dissociation threshold of 35418+/-35 cm(-1), leading to a ground state bond energy of D(0)(0)(BrO)=55.9+/-0.1 kcal/mol.  相似文献

A full dimensional state-to-state quantum dynamics study is carried out for the prototypical complex-formation OH + CO → H + CO(2) reaction in the ground rovibrational initial state on the Lakin-Troya-Schatz-Harding potential energy surface by using the reactant-product decoupling method. With three heavy atoms and deep wells on the reaction path, the reaction represents a huge challenge for accurate quantum dynamics study. This state-to-state calculation is the first such a study on a four-atom reaction other than the H(2) + OH ? H(2)O + H and its isotope analogies. The product CO(2) vibrational and rotational state distributions, and product energy partitioning information are presented for ground initial rovibrational state with the total angular momentum J = 0.  相似文献

The dissociation of the hydroxymethyl radical, CH(2)OH, and its isotopolog, CD(2)OH, following excitation in the 4ν(1) region (OH stretch overtone, near 13,600 cm(-1)) was studied using sliced velocity map imaging. A new vibrational band near 13,660 cm(-1) arising from interaction with the antisymmetric CH stretch was discovered for CH(2)OH. In CD(2)OH dissociation, D atom products (correlated with CHDO) were detected, providing the first experimental evidence of isomerization in the CH(2)OH ? CH(3)O (CD(2)OH ? CHD(2)O) system. Analysis of the H (D) fragment kinetic energy distributions shows that the rovibrational state distributions in the formaldehyde cofragments are different for the OH bond fission and isomerization pathways. Isomerization is responsible for 10%-30% of dissociation events in all studied cases, and its contribution depends on the excited vibrational level of the radical. Accurate dissociation energies were determined: D(0)(CH(2)OH → CH(2)O + H) = 10,160 ± 70 cm(-1), D(0)(CD(2)OH → CD(2)O + H) = 10,135 ± 70 cm(-1), D(0)(CD(2)OH → CHDO + D) = 10,760 ± 60 cm(-1).  相似文献

State-to-state photodissociation dynamics of H(2)O in its B band has been investigated quantum mechanically on a new set of non-adiabatically coupled potential energy surfaces for the lowest two (1)A' states of H(2)O, which are developed at the internally contracted multi-reference configuration interaction level with the aug-cc-pVQZ basis set. Quantum dynamical calculations carried out using the Chebyshev propagator yield absorption spectra, product state distributions, branching ratios, and differential cross sections, which are in reasonably good agreement with the latest experimental results. Particular focus is placed here on the dependence of various dynamical observables on the photon energy. Detailed analyses of the dynamics have assigned the diffuse structure in absorption spectrum to short-time recurring dynamics near the HOH conical intersection. The non-adiabatic dissociation to the ground state OH product via the HOH conical intersection is facile, direct, fast, and produces rotationally hot OH(X?) products. On the other hand, the adiabatic channel on the excited state leading to the OH(A?) product is dominated by long-lived resonances, which depend sensitively on the potential energy surfaces.  相似文献

Two-photon excitation with femtosecond laser pulses in the spectral range 240-250 nm was used to prepare vapor phase H(2)O and D(2)O in the C (1)B(1) and D (1)A(1) states. Both states are predissociated via the B (1)A(1) state, forming excited OH/OD(A (2)Sigma(+)) as well as ground state OH/OD(X (2)Pi). We used ultrashort infrared probe pulses (1.65-2.42 microm) to control the ratio between these excited and ground state fragments originating from the dissociation process. Time resolved detection of the OH/OD(A (2)Sigma(+)) --> OH/OD(X (2)Pi) fluorescence allows us to monitor the dynamics of the predissociation. For the heterogeneous predissociation out of the C(1)B(1) state life times of (0.5 +/- 0.1) ps and (1.2 +/- 0.1) ps were found for H(2)O and D(2)O, respectively. The purely homogeneous character of the predissociation out of the D (1)A(1) state was monitored.  相似文献

The OH-stretch overtone spectroscopy and dynamics of the hydroxymethyl radical, CH(2)OH, are reported in the region of the second and third overtones, which is above the thermochemical threshold to dissociation to H+CH(2)O (D(0)=9600 cm(-1)). The second overtone spectrum at 10 484 cm(-1) is obtained by double resonance IR-UV resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) spectroscopy via the 3p(z) electronic state. It is rotationally resolved with a linewidth of 0.4 cm(-1) and displays properties of local-mode vibration. No dissociation products are observed. The third overtone spectra of CH(2)OH and CD(2)OH are observed at approximately 13 600 cm(-1) by monitoring H-atom photofragments while scanning the excitation laser frequency. No double resonance REMPI spectrum is detected, and no D fragments are produced. The spectra of both isotope analogs can be simulated with a linewidth of 1.3 cm(-1), indicating dissociation via tunneling. By treating the tunneling as one dimensional and using the calculated imaginary frequency, the barrier to dissociation is estimated at about 15 200 cm(-1), in good agreement with theoretical estimations. The Birge-Sponer plot is linear for OH-stretch vibrations 1nu(1)-4nu(1), demonstrating behavior of a one-dimensional Morse oscillator. The anharmonicity parameter derived from the plot is similar to the values obtained for other small OH containing molecules. Isomerization to methoxy does not contribute to the predissociation signal and the mechanism appears to be direct O-H fission via tunneling. CH(2)OH presents a unique example in which the reaction coordinate is excited directly and leads to predissociation via tunneling while preserving the local-mode character of the stretch vibration.  相似文献

In this paper we report on the isotopic effect on the cage-induced excited-state quenching inside small Ar(m) clusters (m<10(2)) solvated in large Ne(N) clusters (N approximately 7.5x10(3)). Excited OH(A)/OD(A) fragments are produced by photodissociation of H2O and D2O molecules and the quenching agents are correspondingly H or D atoms. The decrease of the fluorescence yield with the size of the cluster m>m0 is observed in both cases and it is attributed to the formation of the cage of argon atoms around the doped molecule. Interestingly, more atoms are needed to induce the fluorescence quenching of OD*(A) fragments, m0=21+/-3, compared to the electronically excited state quenching of OH*(A) molecules, 11+/-2. A diffusion model containing two free parameters, the quenching cross section sigmaq and the number of argon atoms forming the cage m0, explains the effect in terms of the residence time of the hydrogen atom inside the cage. We suggest that the melting of the doped rare gas clusters is responsible for the different predissociation dynamics. The quenching cross section obtained from the experimental data is in good agreement with former experiments.  相似文献

The DOOO radical has been produced by three-body association between OD and O2 in a supersonic free-jet expansion and investigated using action spectroscopy, an IR-UV double-resonance technique. Partially rotationally structured bands observed at 2635.06 and 5182.42 cm(-1) are assigned to the OD stretch fundamental (nu(OD)) and overtone (2nu(OD)), respectively, of the trans-DOOO radical. Unstructured bands observed in both spectral regions are assigned to cis-DOOO. Nascent OD X(2)Pi product state distributions following vibrational predissociation appear to be nearly statistical with respect to the degree of rotational excitation, but display a marked propensity for Pi(A') Lambda-doublets, which is interpreted as a signature of a planar dissociation. The energetically highest open OD X(2)Pi product channel implies an upper limit dissociation energy D0 < or = 1856 cm(-1) or 5.31 kcal mol(-1). This value allows refinement of the upper limit D0 of the atmospherically important HOOO isotopomer, suggesting that it is marginally less stable than previously thought.  相似文献

Ultraviolet (UV) photodissociation dynamics of jet-cooled SH radical (in X 2pi(3/2), nu"=0-2) is studied in the photolysis wavelength region of 216-232 nm using high-n Rydberg atom time-of-flight technique. In this wavelength region, anisotropy beta parameter of the H-atom product is approximately -1, and spin-orbit branching fractions of the S(3P(J)) product are close to S(3P2):S(3P1):S(3P0)=0.51:0.36:0.13. The UV photolysis of SH is via a direct dissociation and is initiated on the repulsive 2sigma- potential-energy curve in the Franck-Condon region after the perpendicular transition 2sigma(-)-X 2pi. The S(3P(J)) product fine-structure state distribution approaches that in the sudden limit dissociation on the single repulsive 2sigma- state, but it is also affected by the nonadiabatic couplings among the repulsive 4sigma-, 2sigma-, and 4pi states, which redistribute the photodissociation flux from the initially excited 2sigma- state to the 4sigma- and 4pi states. The bond dissociation energy D0(S-H)=29,245+/-25 cm(-1) is obtained.  相似文献

As a special substance between isolated molecules and condensed phase, clusters have drawn more and more attention by theoreticians and experimentalists. The protonated rare gas cluster is one kind of simplest clusters, which can be looked on as the simplest solution composed of the simplest solute, proton, and the simplest solvent, rare gas. The study on such a system can help us to know more about the complex condensed matter. However, the information for the molecular properties of protonat…  相似文献

The second OH overtone transition of the trans-perp conformer of peroxynitrous acid (tp-HOONO) is identified using infrared action spectroscopy. HOONO is produced by the recombination of photolytically generated OH and NO(2) radicals, and then cooled in a pulsed supersonic expansion. The second overtone transition is assigned to tp-HOONO based on its vibrational frequency (10 195.3 cm(-1)) and rotational band contour, which are in accord with theoretical predictions and previous observations of the first overtone transition. The transition dipole moment associated with the overtone transition is rotated considerably from the OH bond axis, as evident from its hybrid band composition, indicating substantial charge redistribution upon OH stretch excitation. The overtone band exhibits homogeneous line broadening that is attributed to intramolecular vibrational redistribution, arising from the coupling of the initially excited OH stretch to other modes that ultimately lead to dissociation. The quantum state distributions of the OH X (2)Pi (nu=0) products following first and second OH overtone excitation of tp-HOONO are found to be statistical by comparison with three commonly used statistical models. The product state distributions are principally determined by the tp-HOONO binding energy of 16.2(1) kcal mol(-1). Only a small fraction of the OH products are produced in nu=1 following the second overtone excitation, consistent with statistical predictions.  相似文献

A simple picture of the hydrogen dissociation/associative desorption dynamics on Cu(111) emerges from a two-parameter, full dimensionality microcanonical unimolecular rate theory (MURT) model of the gas-surface reactivity. Vibrational frequencies for the reactive transition state were taken from density functional theory calculations of a six-dimensional potential energy surface [Hammer et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 73, 1400 (1994)]. The two remaining parameters required by the MURT were fixed by simulation of experiments. These parameters are the dissociation threshold energy, E(0)=79 kJmol, and the number of surface oscillators involved in the localized H(2)Cu(111) collision complex, s=1. The two-parameter MURT quantitatively predicts much of the varied behavior observed for the H(2) and D(2)Cu(111) reactive systems, including the temperature-dependent associative desorption angular distributions, mean translational energies of the associatively desorbing hydrogen as a function of rovibrational eigenstate, etc. The divergence of the statistical theory's predictions from experimental results at low rotational quantum numbers, J < or approximately 5, suggests that either (i) rotational steering is important to the dissociation dynamics at low J, an effect that washes out at high J, or (ii) molecular rotation is approximately a spectator degree of freedom to the dissociation dynamics for these low J states, the states that dominate the thermal reactivity. Surface vibrations are predicted to provide approximately 30% of the energy required to surmount the activation barrier to H(2) dissociation under thermal equilibrium conditions. The MURT with s=1 is used to analytically confirm the experimental finding that partial differential "E(a)(T(s))" partial differential E(t)= -1 for eigenstate-resolved dissociative sticking at translational energies E(t)相似文献

The state-to-state photodissociation at 193 nm of the initially prepared in-plane rotational state, 303, of the fundamental symmetric stretch of water, H2O, (1,0,0), is studied. Stimulated Raman excitation and coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering prepare and detect respectively the single rotational state of H2O (1,0,0). Laser-induced fluorescence and Doppler polarization spectroscopy determine the rotational distribution and the vector correlations respectively of the OH photofragment resulting from the photodissociation of the specific rovibrational state. The distribution is structured and the Λ-doublet ratio in the two spin-orbit states shows preference of the A″ component. The correlations are close to the maximum attainable values expected for an idealized orientation in which the transition dipole moment of the parent is parallel to the fragment angular momentum and perpendicular to its velocity. This shows that experiments which prepare the parent molecule in a particular state before a second laser dissociates it provide a powerful means for molecular dynamics.  相似文献
