The effect of spatial confinement on the properties of isoelectronic molecules HF, H2O, NH3, and CH4 has been studied by encapsulating them in a C60 fullerene cage. Second-order M?ller-Plesset perturbation theoretical (MP2) calculations suggest that all the guest species are stable inside the fullerene cage. This stabilization arises from the dispersion interaction between the guest and the host. It is shown that the excitation energy (Esigma*-Esigma) for the X-H bond increases and that there is a blue shift in the stretching frequencies due to confinement.  相似文献

Anharmonic vibrational frequencies and intensities are computed for hydrogen fluoride clusters (HF)n, with n = 3, 4 and mixed clusters of hydrogen fluoride with water (HF)n(H2O)n where n = 1, 2. For the (HF)4(H2O)4 complex, the vibrational spectra are calculated at the harmonic level, and anharmonic effects are estimated. Potential energy surfaces for these systems are obtained at the MP2/TZP level of electronic structure theory. Vibrational states are calculated from the potential surface points using the correlation-corrected vibrational self-consistent field method. The method accounts for the anharmonicities and couplings between all vibrational modes and provides fairly accurate anharmonic vibrational spectra that can be directly compared with experimental results without a need for empirical scaling. For (HF)n, good agreement is found with experimental data. This agreement shows that the M?ller-Plesset (MP2) potential surfaces for these systems are reasonably reliable. The accuracy is best for the stiff intramolecular modes, which indicates the validity of MP2 in describing coupling between intramolecular and intermolecular degrees of freedom. For (HF)n(H2O)n experimental results are unavailable. The computed intramolecular frequencies show a strong dependence on cluster size. Intensity features are predicted for future experiments.  相似文献

Endohedral CH(4)@(H(2)O)(n) (n = 16, 18, 20, 22, 24) clusters with standard and nonstandard cage configurations containing four-, five-, six-, seven-membered rings were generated by spiral algorithm and were systematically explored using DFT-D methods. The geometries of all isomers were optimized in vacuum and aqueous solution. In vacuum, encapsulation of methane molecules can stabilize the hollow (H(2)O)(n) cage by 2.31~5.44 kcal/mol; but the endohedral CH(4)@(H(2)O)(n) cages are still less stable than the pure (H(2)O)(n) clusters. Aqueous environment could promote the stabilities of the hollow (H(2)O)(n) cages as well as the CH(4)@(H(2)O)(n) clusters, and the CH(4)@(H(2)O)(n) clusters possess larger stabilization energies with regard to the pure (H(2)O)(n) clusters except for n = 24. The lowest energy structures of the CH(4)@(H(2)O)(20) and CH(4)@(H(2)O)(24) cages are identical to the building units in the crystalline sI clathrate hydrate. All of the low-energy cages (including both regular and irregular ones) have large structural similarity and can be connected by "dimer-insertion" operation and Stone-Wales transformation. Our calculation also showed that in the range of cluster size n = 16-24, the relative energies of cage isomers tend to decrease with increasing number of the adjacent pentagons in the oxygen skeleton structures. In addition to the regular endohedral CH(4)@(H(2)O)(20) and CH(4)@(H(2)O)(24) cage structures, some nonstandard CH(4)@(H(2)O)(n) (n = 18, 20, 22, 24) cages have lower energies and might appear during nucleation process of methane hydrate. For the methane molecules in these low-energy cage isomers, we found that the C-H symmetric stretching frequencies show a red-shift trend and the (13)C NMR chemical shifts generally move toward negative values as the cavity size increases. These theoretical results are comparable to the available experimental data and might help experimental identification of the endohedral water cages during nucleation.  相似文献

Theoretical studies on structures and properties of endohedral fullerene complexes formed by encapsulating small molecules of HF, H20, NH3, and CH4 in a C32 fullerene cage, were carried out by ab initio method. Current calculations reveal that these processes to encase them in fullerene are energetically unfavorable because of the small cavity size of C32. The red shift in the F-H stretching frequency indicates the potential existence of hydrogen bonding between the HF molecule and the carbon cage.  相似文献

van der Waals cluster (SO2)n is investigated by using single photon ionization of a 26.5 eV soft x-ray laser. During the ionization process, neutral clusters suffer a small fragmentation because almost all energy is taken away by the photoelectron and a small part of the photon energy is deposited into the (SO2)n cluster. The distribution of (SO2)n clusters decreases roughly exponentially with increasing cluster size. The photoionization dissociation fraction of I[(SO2)(n-1)SO+] / I[(SO2)n+] decreases with increasing cluster size due to the formation of cluster. The metastable dissociation rate constants of (SO2)n+ are measured in the range of (0.6-1.5) x 10(4) s(-1) for cluster sizes 5< or =n< or =16. Mixed SO2-H2O clusters are studied at different experimental conditions. At the condition of high SO2 concentration (20% SO2 partial pressure), (SO2)n+ cluster ions dominate the mass spectrum, and the unprotonated mixed cluster ions (SO2)nH2O+ (1< or =n< or =5) are observed. At the condition of low SO2 concentration (5% SO2 partial pressure) (H2O)nH+ cluster ions are the dominant signals, and protonated cluster ions (SO2)(H2O)nH+ are observed. The mixed clusters, containing only one SO2 or H2O molecule, SO2(H2O)nH+ and (SO2)nH2O+ are observed, respectively.  相似文献

Structure and properties of hydrated clusters of halogen gas, X2.nH2O (X = Cl, Br, and I; n = 1-8) are presented following first principle based electronic structure theory, namely, BHHLYP density functional and second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) methods. Several geometrical arrangements are considered as initial guess structures to look for the minimum energy equilibrium structures by applying the 6-311++G(d,p) set of the basis function. Results on X2-water clusters (X = Br and I) suggest that X2 exists as a charge separated ion pair, X+delta-X-delta in the hydrated clusters, X2.nH2O (n > or = 2). Though the optimized structures of Cl2.nH2O clusters look like X2.nH2O (X = Br and I) clusters, Cl2 does not exist as a charge separated ion pair in the presence of solvent water molecules. The calculated interaction energy between X2 and solvent water cluster increases from Cl2.nH2O to I2.nH2O clusters, suggesting solubility of gas-phase I2 in water to be a maximum among these three systems. Static and dynamic polarizabilities of hydrated X2 clusters, X2.nH2O, are calculated and observed to vary linearly with the size (n) of these water clusters with correlation coefficient >0.999. This suggests that the polarizability of the larger size hydrated clusters can be reliably predicted. Static and dynamic polarizabilities of these hydrated clusters grow exponentially with the frequency of an external applied field for a particular size (n) of hydrated cluster.

We report conformationally averaged VDEs (VDE(w)(n)) for different sizes of NO(3)(-)·nH(2)O clusters calculated by using uncorrelated HF, correlated hybrid density functional (B3LYP, BHHLYP) and correlated ab intio (MP2 and CCSD(T)) theory. It is observed that the VDE(w)(n) at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p), B3LYP/Aug-cc-Pvtz and CCSD(T)/6-311++G(d,p) levels is very close to the experimentally measured VDE. It is shown that the use of calculated results of the conformationally averaged VDE for small-sized solvated negatively-charged clusters and a microscopic theory-based general expression for the same provides a route to obtain the VDE for a wide range of cluster sizes, including bulk.  相似文献

We present a theoretical study of the quantum solvation of the HF molecule by a small number of parahydrogen molecules, having n = 1-13 solvent particles. The minimum-energy cluster structures determined for n = 1-12 have all of the H(2) molecules in the first solvent shell. The first solvent shell closes at n = 12 and its geometry is icosahedral, with the HF molecule at the center. The quantum-mechanical ground-state properties of the clusters are calculated exactly using the diffusion Monte Carlo method. The zero-point energy of (p-H(2))(n)HF clusters is unusually large, amounting to 86% of the potential well depth for n > 7. The radial probability distribution functions (PDFs) confirm that the first solvent shell is complete for n = 12, and that the 13th p-H(2) molecule begins to fill the second solvent shell. The p-H(2) molecules execute large-amplitude motions and are highly mobile, making the solvent cage exceptionally fluxional. The anisotropy of the solvent, very pronounced for small clusters, decreases rapidly with increasing n, so that for n approximately 8-9 the solvent environment is practically isotropic. The analysis of the pair angular PDF reveals that for a given n, the parahydrogen solvent density around the HF is modulated in a pattern which clearly reflects the lowest-energy cluster configuration. The rigidity of the solvent clusters displays an interesting size dependence, increasing from n = 6 to 9, becoming floppier for n = 10, and increasing again up to n = 12, as the solvent shell is filled. The rigidity of the solvent cage appears to reach its maximum for n = 12, the point at which the first solvent shell is closed.  相似文献

Moller-Plesset second-order (MP2) perturbation theory remains the least expensive standard ab initio method that includes electron correlation, scaling as O(N5) with the number of molecular orbitals N. Unfortunately, when restricted Hartree-Fock orbitals are employed, the potential energy curves calculated with this method are of little use at large interatomic separations because of the divergent behavior of MP2 in these regions. In our previous study [J. Chem. Phys. 122, 234110 (2005)] we combined the MP2 method with the singles and doubles coupled cluster (CCSD) method to produce a hybrid method that retains the computational scaling of MP2 and improves dramatically the shape of the MP2 curves. In this work we expand the hybrid methodology to several other schemes. We investigate a new, improved MP2-CCSD method as well as a few other O(N5) methods related to the Epstein-Nesbet pair correlation theory. Nonparallelity errors across the dissociation curve as well as several spectroscopic constants are computed for BH, HF, H2O, CH+, CH4, and Li2 molecules with the 6-31G* basis set and compared with the corresponding full configuration interaction results. We show that among the O(N5) methods considered, our new hybrid MP2-CCSD method is the most accurate and significantly outperforms MP2 not only at large interatomic separations, but also near equilibrium geometries.  相似文献

Pure, neutral formic acid (HCOOH)n+1 clusters and mixed (HCOOH)(H2O) clusters are investigated employing time of flight mass spectroscopy and single photon ionization at 26.5 eV using a very compact, capillary discharge, soft x-ray laser. During the ionization process, neutral clusters suffer little fragmentation because almost all excess energy above the vertical ionization energy is taken away by the photoelectron, leaving only a small part of the photon energy deposited into the (HCOOH)n+1+ cluster. The vertical ionization energy minus the adiabatic ionization energy is enough excess energy in the clusters to surmount the proton transfer energy barrier and induce the reaction (HCOOH)n+1+-->(HCOOH)nH+ +HCOO making the protonated (HCOOH)nH+ series dominant in all data obtained. The distribution of pure (HCOOH)nH+ clusters is dependent on experimental conditions. Under certain conditions, a magic number is found at n=5. Metastable dissociation rate constants of (HCOOH)nH+ are measured in the range (0.1-0.8)x10(4) s(-1) for cluster sizes 4相似文献

High-resolution infrared laser spectroscopy is used to study the CH3...HF and CD3...HF radical complexes, corresponding to the exit-channel complex in the F + CH4 --> HF + CH3 reaction. The complexes are formed in helium nanodroplets by sequential pickup of a methyl radical and a HF molecule. The rotationally resolved spectra presented here correspond to the fundamental v = 1 <-- 0 H-F vibrational band, the analysis of which reveals a complex with C(3v) symmetry. The vibrational band origin for the CH3...HF complex (3797.00 cm(-1)) is significantly redshifted from that of the HF monomer (3959.19 cm(-1)), consistent with the hydrogen-bonded structure predicted by theory [E. Ya. Misochko et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 117, 11997 (1995)] and suggested by previous matrix isolation experiments [M. E. Jacox, Chem. Phys. 42, 133 (1979)]. The permanent electric dipole moment of this complex is experimentally determined by Stark spectroscopy to be 2.4+/-0.3 D. The wide amplitude zero-point bending motion of this complex is revealed by the vibrational dependence of the A rotational constant. A sixfold reduction in the line broadening associated with the H-F vibrational mode is observed in going from CH3...HF to CD3...HF. The results suggest that fast relaxation in the former case results from near-resonant intermolecular vibration-vibration (V-V) energy transfer. Ab initio calculations are also reported (at the MP2 level) for the various stationary points on the F + CH4 surface, including geometry optimizations and vibrational frequency calculations for CH3...HF.  相似文献

The stepwise binding energies (DeltaHdegree(n-1,n)) of 1-8 water molecules to benzene(.+) [Bz(.+)(H2O)n] were determined by equilibrium measurements using an ion mobility cell. The stepwise hydration energies, DeltaHdegree(n-1,n), are nearly constant at 8.5 +/- 1 kcal mol-1 from n = 1-6. Calculations show that in the n = 1-4 clusters, the benzene(.+) ion retains over 90% of the charge, and it is extremely solvated, that is, hydrogen bonded to an (H2O)n cluster. The binding energies and entropies are larger in the n = 7 and 8 clusters, suggesting cyclic or cage-like water structures. The concentration of the n = 3 cluster is always small, suggesting that deprotonation depletes this ion, consistent with the thermochemistry since associative deprotonation Bz(.+)(H2O)(n-1) + H2O-->C6H5. + (H2O)nH+ is thermoneutral or exothermic for n > or = 4. Associative intracluster proton transfer Bz(.+)(H2O)(n+1) + H2O-->C6H5.(H2O)nH+ would also be exothermic for n > or = 4, but lack of H/D exchange with D2O shows that the proton remains on C6H6(.+) in the observed Bz(.+)(H2O)n clusters. This suggests a barrier to intracluster proton transfer, and as a result, the [Bz(.+)(H2O)n]* activated complexes either undergo dissociative proton transfer, resulting in deprotonation and generation of (H2O)nH+, or become stabilized. The rate constant for the deprotonation reaction shows a uniquely large negative temperature coefficient of K = cT(-67+/-4) (or activation energy of -34+/- 1 kcal mol-1), caused by a multibody mechanism in which five or more components need to be assembled for the reaction.  相似文献

The tripodal ligand 1,3,5-(CH3)3C6[CH2OCH2C(pz)3]3 (L1, pz=pyrazolyl ring) reacts with AgBF4 to yield ([L12Ag3(CH3CN)](BF4)3).(CH3CN)4, an inclusion complex in which the encapsulated acetonitrile cannot escape the triangular cage unit in either the solid or solution phase. The analogous hexatopic ligand C6[CH2OCH2C(pz)3]6 forms a 2-dimensional polymer composed of similar triangular cage units, again with the encapsulation of one acetonitrile molecule, linked by the additional tris(pyrazolyl)methane units. In contrast, the complex formed with L1 and Cd2+ has a double, open cage structure holding two diethyl ether molecules.  相似文献

The performance of the density functional theory (DFT)-based effective fragment potential (EFP) method is assessed using the S(N)2 reaction: Cl- + nH2O + CH3Br = CH3Cl + Br- + nH2O. The effect of the systematic addition of water molecules on the structures and relative energies of all species involved in the reaction has been studied. The EFP1 method is compared with second-order perturbation theory (MP2) and DFT results for n = 1, 2, and 3, and EFP1 results are also presented for four water molecules. The incremental hydration effects on the barrier height are the same for all methods. However, only full MP2 or MP2 with EFP1 solvent molecules are able to provide an accurate treatment of the transition state (TS) and hence the central barriers. Full DFT and DFT with EFP1 solvent molecules both predict central barriers that are too small. The results illustrate that the EFP1-based DFT method gives reliable results when combined with an accurate quantum mechanical (QM) method, so it may be used as an efficient alternative to fully QM methods in the treatment of larger microsolvated systems.  相似文献

We present the results of a detailed study on structure and electronic properties of hydrated cluster Cl2*-.nH2O (n = 1-7) based on a nonlocal density functional, namely, Becke's [J. Chem. Phys. 98, 1372 (1993)] half and half hybrid exchange-correlation functional with a split valence 6-311++G(d,p) basis function. Geometry optimizations for all the clusters are carried out with various possible initial guess structures without any symmetry restriction. Several minimum energy structures (conformers) are predicted with a small difference in total energy. There is a competition between the binding of solvent H2O units with Cl2*- dimer radical anion directly through ion-molecule interaction and forming interwater hydrogen-bonding network in Cl2*-.nH2O (n > or = 2) hydrated cluster. Structure having interwater H-bonded network is more stable over the structure where H2O units are connected to the solute dimer radical anion Cl2*- rather independently either by single or double H bonding in a particular size (n) of hydrated cluster Cl2*-.nH2O. At the maximum four solvent H2O units reside in interwater H-bonding network present in these hydrated clusters. It is observed that up to six H2O units are independently linked to the anion having four double H bondings and two single H bondings suggesting the primary hydration number of Cl2*- to be 6. In all these clusters, the odd electron is found to be mostly localized over the two Cl atoms and these two atoms are bound by a three-electron hemibond. Calculated interaction (between solute and different water clusters) and vertical detachment energy profiles show saturation at n = 6 in the hydrated cluster Cl2*-.nH2O (n = 1-7). However, calculated solvation energy increases with the increase in number of solvent H2O molecules in the cluster. Interaction energy varies linearly with vertical detachment energy for the hydrated clusters Cl2*-.nH2O (n < or = 6). Calculation of the vibration frequencies show that the formation of Cl2*(-)-water clusters induces significant shifts from the normal stretching modes of isolated water. A clear difference in the pattern of IR spectra is observed in the O-H stretching region of water from hexa- to heptahydrated cluster.  相似文献

Three polynuclear thorium(IV) molecular complexes have been synthesized under ambient conditions from reactions of an amorphous Th precipitate, obtained via hydrolysis, with carboxylate functionalized ligands. The structures of Th(6)(OH)(4)O(4)(H(2)O)(6)(HCO(2))(12)·nH(2)O (1), Th(6)(OH)(4)O(4)(H(2)O)(6)(CH(3)CO(2))(12)·nH(2)O (2), Th(6)(OH)(4)O(4)(H(2)O)(6)(ClCH(2)CO(2))(12)·4H(2)O (3) each consist of a hexanuclear Th core wherein six 9-coordinate Th(IV) cations are bridged by four μ(3)-hydroxo and four μ(3)-oxo groups. Each Th(IV) center is additionally coordinated to one bound "apical" water molecule and four oxygen atoms from bridging carboxylate functionalized organic acid units. "Decoration" of the cationic [Th(6)(μ(3)-O)(4)(μ(3)-OH)(4)](12+) cores by anionic shells of R-COO(-) ligands (R = H, CH(3), or CH(2)Cl) terminates the oligomers and results in the formation of discrete, neutral molecular clusters. Electronic structure calculations at the density functional theory level predicted that the most energetically favorable positions for the protons on the hexanuclear core result in the cluster with the highest symmetry with the protons separated as much as possible. The synthesis, structure, and characterization of the materials are reported.  相似文献

The tetradentate imino-carboxylate ligand [L](2)(-) chelates the equatorial sites of Ni(II) to give the complex [Ni(L)(MeOH)(2)] in which a Ni(II) center is bound in an octahedral coordination environment with MeOH ligands occupying the axial sites. Lanthanide (Ln) and Group II metal ions (M) template the aggregation of six [Ni(L)] fragments into the octahedral cage aggregates (M[Ni(L)](6))(x)(+) (1: M = Sr(II); x = 2,2: M = Ba(II); x = 2, 3: M = La(III); x = 3, 4: M = Ce(III); x = 3, 5: M = Pr(III); x = 3, and 6: M = Nd(III); x = 3). In the presence of Group I cations, however, aggregates composed of the alkali metal-oxide cations template various cage compounds. Thus, Na(+) forms the trigonal bipyramidal [Na(5)O](3+) core within a tricapped trigonal prismatic [Ni(L)](9) aggregate to give ((Na(5)O) subset [Ni(L)](9)(MeOH)(3))(BF(4))(2).OH.CH(3)OH, 7. Li(+) and Na(+) together form a mixed Li(+)/Na(+) core comprising distorted trigonal bipyramidal [Na(3)Li(2)O](3+) within an approximately anti-square prismatic [Ni(L)](8) cage in ((Na(3)Li(2)O) subset [Ni(L)](8)(CH(3)OH)(1.3)(BF(4))(0.7))(BF(4))(2.3).(CH(3)OH)(2.75).(C(4)H(10)O)(0.5), 8, while in the presence of Li(+), a tetrahedral [Li(4)O](2+) core within a hexanuclear open cage [Ni(L)](6) in ((Li(4)O) subset [Ni(L)](6)(CH(3)OH)(3))2ClO(4).1.85CH(3)OH, 9, is produced. In the presence of H(2)O, the Cs(+) cation induces the aggregation of the [Ni(L)(H(2)O)(2)] monomer to give the cluster Cs(2)[Ni(L)(H(2)O)(2)](6).2I.4CH(3)OH.5.25H(2)O, 10. Analysis by electronic spectroscopy and mass spectrometry indicates that in solution the trend in stability follows the order 1-6 > 7 > 8 approximately 9. Magnetic susceptibility data indicate that there is net antiferromagnetic exchange between magnetic centers within the cages.  相似文献
