An application of our developed silicon photodiode detector for radon progeny measurements is presented in this paper. It was determined the deposition velocity for free (3.6 ± 0.7) × 10−3 m s−1 and attached (1.0 ± 0.5) × 10−5 m s−1 fraction of short living radon progeny.  相似文献

A personnel neutron dosimeter prototype based on chemical and electrochemical etched CR-39 detector, combined with LiF converter, has been calibrated using an ICRP-like phantom, under a heavy-water moderated Californium source neutron spectra; A conversion factor of 1.052±126 spots cm−2 mSv−1 was obtained. The sealing properties of the detector holder showed a ten-fold reduction in radon background when it was tested in a high radon atmosphere. A convenient mechanical shock resistance was achieved in LiF converters by sintering to 11 tons pressure LiF powder at 650°C, during one hour.  相似文献

Environmental gamma exposure and radon concentration levels measured in Venezuelan regions are presented. A new generation image analyser was used for particle track counting in CR-39 detectors. Mineral water wells from where water is supplied for massive consumption have an alpha activity around 0.450 Bq L−1 and few of them have concentrations above 50 Bq L−1. Coastal potable water activity is on the average around 5.3 ± 12% Bq L−1. Indoor radon national average is 36 ± 5% Bq m−3; in two of the 36 monitored sites, the measured average is above 400 ± 5% Bq m−3. In air gamma dose values are between 100 and 144 nGy h−1. In soil, 137Cs concentration is around 0.5 and 10 Bq kg−1 at the depth of down to 20 cm. Building materials were included in this study. 7Be and 137Cs were measured in low concentration in tropical plants on Tepuy-s (sacred mountains in the Amazonas State). Geological active faults were identified by radon concentration measurements using LR-115.  相似文献

The average tropospheric volume mixing ratio of CHF2Cl (HCFC-22) has been retrieved from a time series of high spectral resolution ground-based infrared solar absorption spectra recorded with the McMath Fourier transform spectrometer located at the U.S. National Solar Observatory facility on Kitt Peak in southern Arizona (31.9°N, 111.6°W, 2.09 km altitude) for the time period October 1987–November 2002. The retrievals are based on fits to the well-isolated, unresolved 2ν6 Q branch at 829.05 cm−1 and the SFIT2 retrieval algorithm. The measured daily averages show a near linear rise per year in the mean tropospheric volume mixing ratio as a function of time with a best fit yielding an average increase rate of (5.66±0.15) parts per trillion (10−12) by volume per year, corresponding to (6.47±0.17)%yr−1, 1 sigma, at the beginning of the time series. The tropospheric mixing ratios retrieved from the solar spectra have been compared with monthly average surface flask sampling measurements from the Climate Monitoring and Diagnostic Laboratory (CMDL) station at Niwot Ridge, Colorado (40.0°N, 105.5°W, 3013 m altitude), archived measurement from the same location, and early CMDL northern hemisphere Pacific cruise measurements. The average ratio of the retrieved tropospheric mixing ratio relative to the CMDL surface mixing ratio is 1.053 for the overlapping 1987 to 2002 time period. The retrieved mean tropospheric mixing ratio is consistent with the surface measurements within the errors estimated for the remote sensing observations.  相似文献

Indoor radon/thoron have been recognised as one of the health hazards for mankind. Common building materials used for construction of houses, which are considered as major sources of these gases in indoor environment, have been studied for exhalation rate of radon/thoron. ‘Can’ technique using plastic track detector LR-115 type-II has been used for measurement. Exhalation rates for radon and thoron have been found to be varying from a minimum value of 0.024 and 29.4 Bqm−2 h−1 for cement plastered brick to a maximum value of 0.16 and 692.2 Bqm−2 h−1 for unfired brick, respectively. Exhalation rate for thoron has been found to be several times higher than that for radon. Measured exhalation rates for thoron indicate significant presence of thoron in indoor environment which is also supported by indoor measurements of thoron and its progeny.  相似文献

Radon/thoron and their progeny concentrations were measured in different types of dwellings at different locations around industrial areas, cities and rural areas of Brahmaputra Valley of Assam by using LR-115 (type-II) plastic detector. Radon levels of different dwellings were analysed with reference to the nature of building materials, ventilation patterns and the types of underlying soil. The results were discussed under the light of exposure limits set by ICRP. The average concentrations of indoor radon and thoron varied from 39.5 to 215.2 Bqm−3 and 12.9 to 37.6 Bqm−3, respectively. The estimated inhalation dose due to radon, thoron and their daughter products in the study areas varied from 0.53 to 1.00 μSvh−1.  相似文献

A miniature diffusion chamber with a 25 × 4 × 0.5 mm CR-39 track etch detector (Pershore Moulding Ltd.), mounted on the 1.1 m long pole has been developed for radon gas measurements at 1 meter depth in the soil. For chemically etched CR-39 (7h, 70°C NaOH) and automatic track analysis the lowest detection limit of the chamber was found to be 0.5 MBq h m−3 and the useful exposure range from 2 to 20 MBq h m−3. The typical exposure time in the soil is between 2 to 14 days. The chamber was tested against the active AlphaGUARD PQ-2000 (Genitron Instruments GmbH) probe. The test yielded consistent results for soils with typical values of permeability and which are not miniature with water. The pilot measurements of radon gas in soil conducted with the miniature diffusion chambers around 48 buildings in Kraków and Silesia regions yielded an average radon concentration of 13 kBq m−3. The chambers are to be applied to measure radon concentration in soil before constructing new houses in order to avoid high radon risk areas.  相似文献

Thin films of copper oxide with thickness ranging from 0.05–0.45 μm were deposited on microscope glass slides by successively dipping them for 20 s each in a solution of 1 M NaOH and then in a solution of copper complex. Temperature of the NaOH solution was varied from 50–90°C, while that of the copper solution was maintained at room temperature. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the films, as prepared, are of cuprite structure with composition Cu2O. Annealing the films in air at 350°C converts these films to CuO. This conversion is accompanied by a shift in the optical band gap from 2.1 eV (direct) to 1.75 eV (direct). The films show p-type conductivity, 5×10−4 Ω−1 cm−1 for a film of thickness 0.15 μm. Electrical conductivity of this film increases by a factor of 3 when illuminated with 1 kW m−2 tungsten halogen radiation. Annealing in a nitrogen atmosphere at temperatures up to 400°C does not change the composition of the films. However, the conductivity in the dark as well as the photoconductivity of the film increases by an order of magnitude. The electrical conductivity of the CuO thin films produced by air annealing at 400°C, is high, 7×10−3 Ω−1 cm−1. These films are also photoconductive.  相似文献

The concentration of radon daughters in outdoor air was measured continuously from January 2006 to December 2006 near the Department of Physics, Bangalore University campus, Bangalore. The concentration was measured by collecting air samples at a height of 1 m above the ground level on a glass micro fibre filter paper with a known air flow rate. The results show that the radon progeny concentration exhibits distinct seasonal and diurnal variations that are predominantly caused by changes in the temperature gradient at the soil–atmosphere interface. The concentration was found to be high from 20.00 to 8.00 hrs, when the turbulence mixing was minimum and low during the rest of the time. In terms of the monthly concentration, January was found to be the highest with September/August being the lowest. The diurnal variations in the concentrations of radon progeny were found to exhibit positive correlation with the relative humidity and anti-correlation with the atmospheric temperature. From the measured concentration, an attempt was made to establish the annual effective dose to the general public of the region and was found to be 0.085 mSv/a. In addition, an attempt was also made for the first time to study the variation of inhalation dose with respect to the physical activity levels. Results show that in the light of both the effect of chemical pollutants and radiation dose due to inhalation of radon daughters, evening jogging is advisable.  相似文献

Indoor radon survey in a total of 241 dwellings, distributed in some regions of Yemen was performed, using CR-39 based radon monitors. The objective of this radon survey is to get representative indoor radon data of three regions, namely Dhamar, Taiz and Hodeidah, situated at different altitudes above sea level. The radon concentrations varied from 3 to 270 Bqm−3 with an average of 42 Bqm−3. It was found that the average radon concentration in the surveyed areas increases with altitudes. The highest average radon concentration of 59 Bqm−3 was found in Dhamar city while the lowest average concentration of 8 Bqm−3 was found in Hodeidah city.  相似文献

We have investigated the thermal and ionic conductivity properties of the elastomer poly(ethylene oxide-co-epichlorohydrin) filled with NaI and I2. The reason for using this composition is its potential application as electrolyte in photoelectrochemical cells. This copolymer was characterized as a function of NaI concentration, temperature and relative humidity. According to the data obtained, the Na+ ion interacts with the ethylene oxide repeating units by means of Lewis type acid–base interactions. The empirical Vogel–Tamman–Fulcher equation was used to model the conductivity and temperature relationships, indicating that the conduction occurs in the amorphous phase of the copolymer. The sample with 9.0% (w/w) of NaI presents a conductivity of 1.5×10−5 S cm−1 in a dry atmosphere (30°C, [H2O]<1 ppm) and 2.0×10−4 S cm−1 at 86% relative humidity (22°C).  相似文献

We find, in a high precision Monte Carlo calculation of the glueball mass spectrum in pure SU(3) lattice gauge theory, a low-lying oddball with quantum numbers 1−+. We estimate its mass to be m(1−+)=1.68±0.18 GeV. We also measure the mass of the 0−− oddball and find m(0−−)=2.79±0.22 GeV.  相似文献

Vanadium oxide films with temperature coefficient of resistant of −2.6% K−1 have been fabricated on Si3N4-film-coated Si substrates by ion beam sputtering in a controlled Ar/O2 atmosphere, at a relatively low growth temperature of 200 °C. The as-deposited films show no semiconductor-to-metal phase transitions even heated up to 150 °C. X-ray diffractometry shows that the main compound of the VOx film is a metastable phase of vanadium dioxide (VO2(B)) and the VO2(B) film can be transformed into VO2 film by post-growth annealing at 450 °C in flowing Ar atmosphere.  相似文献

The ionic conductivity of the bulk phase of bonded hydronium NASICON (HyceramTM) was measured at equilibrium with an H2O/N2 and then a D2O/N2 atmosphere, each at 100% relative humidity and 75% relative humidity over the temperature range 25°C to 50°C. At 100% relative humidity and 25°C, the protonic system had a bulk conductivity of 5.0×10−4 S/cm and an activation energy of 17.3kJ/mole; the same sample, when deuterated, had a bulk conductivity of 2.2×10−4 S/cm and an activation energy of 19.3kJ/mole. At 75% relative humidity and 25°C, the conductivity of the protonated system decreased to 1.4×10−4S/cm with an activation energy of 24.1 kJ/mole. The deuterated sample at 75% relative humidity had a bulk conductivity of 5.4×10−5 S/cm with an activation energy of 26.0 kJ/mole. The isotope effect suggested a proton hopping (Grotthus) mechanism as the means by which the protons pass through the lattice.  相似文献

Three kinds of peroxo-polytungstic acid (PPTA, C-PPTA and N-PPTA) were obtained by reacting hydrogen peroxide with metallic tungsten, tungsten carbide or tungsten nitride, respectively. Polytungstates, C-PPTA and N-PPTA, were found to contain oxalate and nitrate ligands. Their proton conductivities were compared using thin film specimens spin-coated from their water solution. Conductivity of each as-coated film was in the range from 10−3 to 10−4 S cm−1 under the relative humidity of 40% (25 °C). A sharp decrease in conductivity (to less than 10−7 S cm−1 at 25 °C) was observed for PPTA without acidic ligands after thermal treatment at 80 °C. However, the effect of thermal treatment on C-PPTA or N-PPTA was much milder. A 80 °C-treated C-PPTA film showed the conductivity of 1.0 × 10−5 S cm−1 (25 °C) with a very weak dependency on ambient humidity.  相似文献

Cesium-137 is a fission product of 235U and 239Pu. After a major nuclear accident, it is released into the atmosphere and in the far field region it will produce radioactively contaminated food and drinking water. This paper will study the specific activity of 137Cs in three Costa Rican export products: tuna fish, coffee and powdered milk. The average specific activities found are as follows: 0.89±0.41, 1.16±0.76 and 4.53±2.00 Bq kg−1. They represent low values compared to their derived intervention levels: 1.25 × 107, 1.25 × 107 and 2.44 × 105 Bq kg−1, respectively.  相似文献

The electrical conductivity of single crystal lithium niobate (LiNbO3) was determined as a function of temperature for various oxygen partial pressures. The electrical conductivity is proportional to Po2−1/4 which can be explained by a defect equilibrium involving singly ionized oxygen vacancies and electrons.

Measurements of electrical transport numbers at 1000°K show the electrical conductivity of LiNbO3 to be ionic at one atmosphere of oxygen and electronic at low oxygen partial pressures.

Thermoelectric measurements indicate that LiNbO3 at low oxygen partial pressures is n-type and that the concentration of electrons at 1000°K and in an atmosphere of 50% C0/50% CO2a is 4 × 1017cm3 with a mobility of 1.7 cm2V sec.

The diffusion of oxygen in LiNbO3 was determined as a function of temperature at an oxygen partial pressure of 70 Torr. by measuring O18/O16 isotope exchange with the gas phase as a function of time. The diffusion data may be represented by D = 3.03 × 10−6 exp (−29.4 kcal mole−1/RT)cm2sec. Consideration of the Nernst-Einstein relation for oxygen and the variation in conductivity with Li2O activity indicate that the ionic conduction is caused by transport of lithium ions.  相似文献

The βγ circular polarization correlation of the 3 621 keV)3(γ 1692)2+ cascade in 124Sb, the 4+ 662)4+ (γ 796)2+ (γ 605)0+ in 13Z4Cs and the 6+529)6+ (γ 937)4+ (γ 885)2+ (γ 658)0+ in 110mAg have been studied by using a Compton effect polarimeter. Studies conducted by Atomic Minerals Directorate of Exploration and Research (AMD) of Hyderabad, India had established the presence of higher concentrations of uranium in Lambapur and Peddagattu areas of Nalgonda district, AP, India and it was estimated that it could be a viable source for commercial extraction. The envisaged extraction process involves dispersion of radioactive particulate matter into atmosphere. Environmental radioactive studies in and around proposed mining areas at this point of time will be extremely useful for establishing base line data before a large scale uranium extraction process comes into existence. To this end, Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors were installed to evaluate indoor radon and thoron concentration levels in the dwellings of the area. The geometric means of radon and thoron concentration levels were found to be (7.1±0.2)×101 and (6.7±0.3)×101 Bq/m3, respectively. Simultaneously, natural background radiation measurements were also made and these levels are found to vary from 770 to 3995 μGy/y in the spatial distribution.  相似文献

The solvation structure of chloride, bromide, and iodide ions, X, in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has been investigated by using Raman spectroscopy and large angle X-ray diffraction under ambient conditions. The positively charged sulfur atom in DMSO interacts with X and slightly positively charged methyl groups in the coordinating molecules also interact with X. The X---S, X···C, and X···O distances are determined as follows: Cl---S: 416, Cl···C: 363, Cl···O: 543, Br---S: 433, Br···C: 372, Br···O: 544, I---S: 437, I···C: 374 and I···O: 520 pm. The coordination numbers of DMSO molecules around the anions are six, seven and eight for Cl, Br and I ions, respectively, with the uncertainty of ±1. Rather large uncertainties in the measured solvation numbers suggest large fluctuations in the solvation structure of the anions.  相似文献
