Rubber blend of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber (50/50) has been loaded with increasing contents, up to 100 phr, of reinforcing filler, namely, high abrasion furnace (HAF) carbon black. Prepared composites have been subjected to gamma radiation doses up to 250 kGy to induce radiation vulcanization under atmospheric conditions. Mechanical properties, namely, tensile strength (TS), tensile modulus at 100% elongation (M100), and hardness have been followed up as a function of irradiation dose and degree of loading with filler. On the other hand, variation of the swelling number as a physical property, as a function of same parameters, however, in car oil as well as brake oil has been undertaken. In addition, the electrical properties of prepared composites, namely, their electrical conductivity, were also evaluated. The thermal behavior of the prepared composites was also investigated. The results obtained indicate that improvement has been attained in different properties of loaded NBR/EPDM composites with respect to unloaded ones.  相似文献

Layered silicate/natural rubber composites were prepared by direct polymer melt intercalation. Na‐montmorillonite Kunipia‐F and its organic derivates (organo‐clays) prepared by ion exchange were used as clay fillers. Silica (SiO2) Ultrasil VN3, a filler commonly used in the rubber industry, was used in combination with clay fillers. The effect of clay or organo‐clay loading from 1 up to 10 phr without (0 phr) or with silica (15 phr) showed significant improvement of the tensile properties (stress at break, strain at break and modulus M100). Modification of montmorillonite by three alkylammonium cations with the same length of alkylammonium chain (18 carbons) and different structure resulted in altered reinforcing and plasticizing effects of the filler in composites with rubber matrix. The effect of bentonite clay loading on curing characteristics and tear strength of bentonite filled ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) composite were studied. Compounding was carried out on two-roll mill and vulcanization was done at 1500C. Torque values, scorch time and optimum cure time of the prepared rubber compound were assessed by using Mosanto Disc Rheometer (MDR 2000). Results indicated that the maximum torque of EPDM/Bt composite decreases at high bentonite loading. Increasing in values with increasing bentonite loading was recorded for minimum torque and optimum cure time of EPDM/Bt composite. The increase is related with the increase in viscosity due to the increasing of bentonite clay loading in EPDM matrix. Scorch time was found to be decreasing up to 30 phr bentonite clay. Results also show that tear strength of EPDM/Bt composite increased with increasing bentonite loading up to 90 phr. The reason is probably due to agglomeration occur causes the reduction in properties at high loading above 90 phr bentonite clay. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of tear fracture surface of EPDM/Bt composite illustrated that with increasing bentonite loading up to 90 phr bentonite clay, a better dispersion of bentonite clay is achieved as compared to lower loading, resulting in high tear strength value for EPDM/Bt composite.  相似文献

The effect of migration of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanoparticles on the breakup dynamics of Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer (EPDM) droplets in Polypropylene (PP) matrix during melt extrusion was investigated in situ. The breakup process of EPDM droplets was sped up dramatically when the migration of CaCO3 nano-particles from dispersed phase to matrix was introduced to PP/EPDM melts. It was found that both the total breakup time and the shape stability of slender EPDM droplets decreased with the increase of CaCO3 concentration. Both the maximum value in equivalent diameter d and aspect ratio AR of EPDM droplets were also reduced by increasing the composition of CaCO3 nanoparticles. Results were discussed in consideration of interfacial tension and migration of CaCO3 nanoparticles. Reduction in interfacial tension is mainly responsible for the improved breakup process in the two-step composites with CaCO3 nanoparticles (<2 wt%). Higher composition of CaCO3 (≥2 wt%) induced the CaCO3 aggregates in the EPDM phase. These aggregates acted as stress concentration when the EPDM droplets break up.  相似文献

A Haake torque rheometer equipped with an internal mixer has been used to study the influence of microscale calcium carbonate (micro‐CaCO3) and nanoscale calcium carbonate (nano‐CaCO3) on the fusion, thermal, and mechanical characteristics of rigid poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC)/micro‐CaCO3 and PVC/nano‐CaCO3 composites, respectively. The fusion characteristics discussed in this article include the fusion time, fusion temperature, fusion torque, and fusion percolation threshold (FPT). The fusion time, fusion temperature, and FPT of rigid PVC/calcium carbonate (CaCO3) composites increase with an increase in the addition of micro‐CaCO3 or nano‐CaCO3. In contrast, the fusion torque of rigid PVC/CaCO3 composites decreases with an increase in the addition of micro‐CaCO3 or nano‐CaCO3. The results of thermal analysis show that the first thermal degradation onset temperature (Tonset) of rigid PVC/micro‐CaCO3 is 7.5 °C lower than that of PVC. Meanwhile, the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of rigid PVC/micro‐CaCO3 is similar to that of PVC. However, Tonset and Tg of PVC/nano‐CaCO3 composites can be increased by up to 30 and 4.4%, respectively, via blending with 10 phr nano‐CaCO3. Mechanical testing results for PVC/micro‐CaCO3 composites with the addition of 5–15 phr micro‐CaCO3 and PVC/nano‐CaCO3 composites with the addition of 5–20 phr nano‐CaCO3 are better than those of PVC. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. EPDM composites filled with short flax fibers were prepared by melt blending procedure. The effects of fiber loading on the mechanical, thermal and water uptake characteristics were studied. The physico-mechanical, morphological thermal properties and water absorption behavior were discussed using tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetrical analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the flax fibers were well dispersed in the polymer matrix. The tensile strength and hardness of the composites were found to be improved at higher fiber loading. The water absorption pattern of EPDM/fiber composites at room temperature follows a Fickian behavior for composites with 10, 15 and 20 phr flax fiber.  相似文献

Graphene nanoplatelets (GnP) and α-MnO2 decorated GnP were integrated into an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) matrix using the dual mixing method (solution followed by melt mixing). GnP was added in 1, 3, 5, 8, 10 and 15 phr loadings into an EVA matrix to obtain composites and evaluate their various properties suitable for mechanical and electrical applications. The graphene nanoplatelets were further decorated with α-MnO2 which was subsequently integrated into EVA at an 8 phr loading to form composites. It was observed in the GnP-EVA composites, that with an increasing GnP content, a substantial increase in the tensile strength (188%) over the neat polymer was observed at a 10 phr loading but reduced thereafter at a 15 phr loading. Dielectric permittivity of the composites were observed to increase with an increasing filler loading, the addition of α-MnO2 also having a beneficial effect. Conductivity as well as the electromagnetic interference shielding performance were improved with increasing GnP concentrations. A maximum 28 dB of shielding was observed in the 15 phr loaded GnP-EVA composite whereas the α-MnO2 decorated GnP-EVA composite showed a shielding efficiency of 22 dB at a concentration of 8 phr for a thickness of 2 mm with excellent thermal and mechanical properties. Overall, the composite material will find its application as a flexible EMI shielding material.  相似文献

Novel nanocomposite membranes were prepared with sulfonated polyoxadiazole and different amounts of sulfonated dense and mesoporous (MCM-41) silica particles. It has been shown that particle size and functionality of sulfonated silica particles play an important role when they are used as fillers for the development of polymer electrolyte nanocomposite membrane for fuel cells. No significant particle agglomerates were observed in all nanocomposite membranes prepared with sulfonated dense silica particles, as analyzed by SEM, AFM, TGA, DMTA and tensile tests. The Tg values of the composite membranes increased with addition of sulfonated silica, indicating an interaction between the sulfonic acid groups of the silica and the polyoxadiazole. Constrained polymer chains in the vicinity of the inorganic particles were confirmed by the reduction of the relative peak height of tan δ. A proton conductivity of 0.034 S cm−1 at 120 °C and 25% RH, which is around two-fold higher than the value of the pristine polymer membrane was obtained.  相似文献

A modified nano-calcium carbonate (R-CCR) was prepared by coating a layer of unsaturated hydroxylfatty acid on the surface of CCR powders using a solid state method; the latter were commercial nano-CaCO3 modified with stearic acid. FTIR studies indicate that the modifier is combined on the surface of CaCO3. PP/EPDM/nano-CaCO3 ternary composites were prepared by a melt-mixing method. SEM and TEM were utilized to examine the morphology of the composites. The tensile fractured surface of PP/EPDM/R-CCR showed a fibroid morphology and large-scale yield deformation. The impact fractured surface showed that the amount of cavities in the PP/EPDM/R-CCR system was increased, however their size diminished obviously. R-CCR particles were dispersed uniformly in the PP matrix, and their compatibility was distinctly improved as compared to CCR when the amount of R-CCR was 15 h−1. The tensile strength remained nearly constant (reduced from 27.6 MPa to 27.5 MPa), while the impact strength increased from 9.6 kJ/m2 to 15.4 kJ/m2 as CCR was replaced by R-CCR. Meanwhile, the bending strength and bending modulus also increased correspondingly. Furthermore, the impact strength of PP/EPDM/R-CCR was maintained at a high level (15.4 kJ/m2), which was more than the sum of that of PP/EPDM and PP/R-CCR (6.6 kJ/m2 and 6.1 kJ/m2 respectively). This indicates that the R-CCR and EPDM have a significant synergistic toughening effect on PP while maintaining the strength and modulus of virgin PP. Both the storage modulus G′ and loss modulus G″ of PP/EPDM and PP/EPDM/R-CCR composites increase with increasing frequency, but the values of G′ and G″ of the tertiary composite are relatively higher than those of the binary system. The loss factor and viscosity decrease with increasing frequency, but there is little difference between tertiary and binary composites. The apparent viscosity η of the tertiary system containing R-CCR is lower than that of the tertiary system containing CCR and virgin PP. The viscosity of the composites sig-nificantly decreases with increasing shear rate. The mea-sured mechanical properties of the composites indicate that replacing CCR with R-CCR for binary composites could simultaneously enhance the toughness and strength of PP. __________ Translated from Acta Polymerica Sinica, 2008, 4 (in Chinese)  相似文献

CaCO3/PEEK (poly-ether ether ketone) composites were prepared on a twin-screw extruder with different mass ratio of CaCO3/PEEK from 0% to 30%. Four types of particles were used as filler in PEEK matrix. The influence of surface treatment with sulfonated PEEK (SPEEK) of the particles on the mechanical and thermal properties of the composites was studied. The experiments included tensile tests, flexural tests, notched Izod impact tests, TGA, DSC and SEM. The modulus and yield stress of the composites increased with CaCO3 particles loadings. This increase was attributed to the bonding between the particles and the PEEK matrix, as can be proved by the SEM pictures of tensile fracture surface of the composites. The impact strength of the composites was modified by the SPEEK coated on the CaCO3 particle surface. DSC experiments showed that the particle content and surface properties influenced the glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) of the composites. The Tg increased with the content of fillers while Tm decreased. In this study the fillers treated were found to give better combination properties, which indicated that SPEEK played a constructive role in the CaCO3/PEEK composites.  相似文献

Blends of natural rubber/virgin ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer (NR/EPDM) and natural rubber/recycled ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer (NR/R-EPDM) were prepared. A fixed amount of carbon black (30 phr) was also incorporated. The effect of the blend ratio (90/10, 80/20, 70/30, 60/40 and 50/50 (phr/phr)) on the compounding, mechanical and morphological properties of carbon-black-filled NR/EPDM and NR/R-EPDM blends was studied. The results indicated that both the carbon-black-filled NR/EPDM and NR/R-EPDM blends exhibited a decrease in tensile strength and elongation at break for increasing weight ratio of EPDM or R-EPDM. The maximum torque (S′MH), minimum torque (S′ML), torque difference (S′MH?ML), scorch time (ts2) and cure time (tc90) of carbon-black-filled NR/EPDM or NR/R-EPDM blends increased with increasing weight ratio of virgin EPDM or R-EPDM in the blend. SEM micrographs proved that, for low weight ratios of virgin EPDM or R-EPDM, the blends exhibited high surface roughness and matrix tearing lines. The blends also showed a reduction in crack path with increasing virgin EPDM or R-EPDM content over 30 phr. This reduction in crack path could lead to less resistance to crack propagation and, therefore, low tensile strength.  相似文献

The synergistic effects of layered double hydroxide (LDH) with hyperfine magnesium hydroxide (HFMH) in halogen-free flame retardant ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)/HFMH/LDH nanocomposites have been studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron spectroscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), limiting oxygen index (LOI), mechanical properties' tests, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). The XRD results show that the exfoliated EVA/HFMH/LDH can be obtained by controlling the LDH loading. The TEM images give the evidence that the organic-modified LDH (OM-LDH) can act as a disperser and help HFMH particles to disperse homogeneously in the EVA matrix. The TGA data demonstrate that the addition of LDH can raise 5-18 °C thermal degradation temperatures of EVA/HFMH/LDH nanocomposite samples with 5-15 phr OM-LDH compared with that of the control EVA/HFMH sample when 50% weight loss is selected as a point of comparison. The LOI and mechanical tests show that the LDH can act as flame retardant synergist and compatilizer to apparently increase the LOI and elongation at break values of EVA/HFMH/LDH nanocomposites. The DMTA data verify that the Tg value (−10 °C) of the EVA/HFMH/LDH nanocomposite sample with 15 phr LDH is much lower than that (Tg = −2 °C) of the control EVA/HFMH sample without LDH and approximates to the Tg value (−12 °C) of pure EVA, which indicates that the nanocomposites with LDH have more flexibility than that of the EVA/HFMH composites.  相似文献

The effect of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-encapsulated calcium carbonate on the kinetics of the vulcanization of natural rubber (NR) with a vulcanizing agent (sulfur) accelerated by N-oxydiethyl benzthiazyl sulfenamide (BSM) has been studied. The PMMA coating (4% by weight of CaCO3) was prepared by dispersion polymerization, and compositions of five NR composites were 10, 15, 20 phr of treated CaCO3 and 20 and 40 phr of untreated CaCO3. The vulcanization kinetics was determined by oscillating disc rheometry (ODR) and the kinetic parameters were determined by the model equations. The kinetic analysis suggests that the two-parameter auto catalytic model is the more appropriate one to elucidate the kinetics of the vulcanizing reaction of the present system. These parameters support the nature of the experimental ODR curves (degree of conversion–time plots). The encapsulated CaCO3 leads to a change in vulcanization reaction and has an effect on the kinetic parameters E, ln K0, m and n, and consequently on the overall reactivity.  相似文献

Porous magnetic composites were prepared by the synthesis of molecular sieve MCM-41 in the presence of Fe3O4 nanoparticles with average diameter of 15 nm. Nanoparticles were captured by porous silica matrix MCM-41, which resulted in their incorporation, as it was confirmed by TEM, SEM and X-ray diffraction. The materials possessed high surface area (392-666 m2 g−1), high pore volume (0.39-0.73 cm3 g−1) along with high magnetic response (MS up to 28.4 emu g−1 at 300 K). Calcination of samples resulted in partial oxidation of Fe3O4 to α-Fe2O3. The influence of nanoparticles content on sorption and magnetic properties of the composites was shown. No hysteresis was found for the samples at 300 K; at 5 K, HC was in the range 370-385 G for non-calcinated samples and 350-356 G for calcinated ones.  相似文献

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microcapsules were prepared by the in situ polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide on the surface of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) particles, followed by the dissolution of the CaCO3 core in ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid solution. The microcapsules were characterized using fluorescence microscopy, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The average sizes of the CaCO3 particles and PMMA capsules were 3.8 ± 0.6 and 4.0 ± 0.6 μm, respectively. A copolymer consisting of MMA and rhodamine B-bearing MMA was also used to prepare microcapsules for fluorescent microscopy observations. Fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled bovine serum albumin was enclosed in the PMMA microcapsules and its release properties were studied.  相似文献

Alkanolamide (ALK) and Aminopropyltriethoxy Silane (APTES) were incorporated separately into silica-filled SMR-L compounds at 1.0, 3.0, 5.0 and 7.0 phr. It was found that compounds with both ALK and APTES exhibited cure enhancement, better filler dispersion and greater rubber-filler interaction. Both additives also produced modulus and tensile enhancements in the silica-filled SMR-L compounds, especially up to a 5.0 phr loading. At a similar loading, ALK exhibited higher reinforcing efficiency of silica than APTES.  相似文献

A modified SBA-15 mesoporous silica material NH2-SBA-15 was synthesized successfully by grafting γ-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane. The material was characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared/Raman (FT-IR/Raman) spectroscopy, and used for the first time in a flow injection on-line solid phase extraction (SPE) coupled with flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) to detect trace Cr (VI). Effective sorption of Cr (VI) was achieved at pH 2.0 with no interference from Cr (III) and other ions and 0.5 mol L−1 NH3·H2O solution was found optimal for the complete elution of Cr (VI). An enrichment factor of 44 and was achieved under optimized experimental conditions at a sample loading of 2.0 mL min−1 sample loading (300 s) and an elution flow rate of 2.0 mL min−1 (24 s). The precision of the 11 replicate Cr (VI) measurements was 2.1% at the 100 μg L−1 level with a detection limit of 0.2 μg L−1 (3 s, n = 10) using the FAAS. The developed method was successfully applied to trace chromium determination in waste water. The accuracy was validated using a certified reference material of riverine water (GBW08607).  相似文献

The new phases Ba2LaMNb4O15: M=Mn, Fe were prepared by solid state reaction at 1100 °C. They have the tetragonal tungsten bronze structure, space group P4/mbm, at room temperature. The two octahedral sites show partial order of M and Nb with preferential occupancy of the smaller B(1) sites by M. Both phases have high permittivities 90±15 over the range 10-320 K. Ba2LaFeNb4O15 is highly insulating with bulk conductivity ?10−8 ohm−1 cm−1 at 25 °C and tan δ?0.001 over the range 100-320 K and at 105 Hz. Solid solutions between these new phases and the compositionally and structurally related relaxor ferroelectric Ba2LaTi2Nb3O15 show gradual loss of ferroelectric behaviour attributed to replacement of polarisable Ti4+ by a mixture of (Mn, Fe)3+ and Nb5+.  相似文献

Polyphenylsilsesquioxane (PPSQ) microspheres with ladder structure synthesized in the laboratory have been incorporated into ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) composite in order to study the effect of PPSQ on the ablative and flame-retardation properties of EPDM composites. The results showed that PPSQ microspheres serve as an effective ablative additive and flame retardant for EPDM composites. Thus, PPSQ greatly improved the ablative properties of EPDM composites, with a 4.8 wt% loading leading to a remarkable reduction in the linear ablation rate of EPDM by about 50%. Moreover, this loading of PPSQ improved the flame retardancy and smoke suppression, and significantly reduced the PHRR of EPDM composite from 504 kW/m2 to 278 kW/m2. Moderate tensile strength could be obtained and the breaking elongation was improved for the EPDM/PPSQ composites. TGA results showed that PPSQ had little influence on the thermal decomposition of EPDM. SEM, CONE, and TG-FTIR tests showed that the char structure of EPDM composites was the primary factor through which PPSQ affected the ablative and flame-retardation properties of EPDM. The chars formed during the ablation of EPDM composites containing PPSQ had better structural stability and thermal stability, owing to the fact that they were denser, remained intact, and had an ordered arrangement of holes.  相似文献

This work focused on the effect of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) on the curing characteristics, aging resistance and thermal stability of natural rubber (NR) reinforced with carbon black (CB). Sharing the same fillers loading of 45 parts per hundred rubber (phr), NR/NCC/CB composites with different NCC/CB ratios (i.e. 0/45, 5/40, 10/35, 15/30, 20/25 phr) were prepared and analyzed. Resorcinol and hexamethylene tetramine (RH), acting as the modifier in NR/NCC interface, was also discussed for its influence. The result showed that an relatively higher ratio of NCC/CB led to a lower torque, a shorter cure time (T 90), a slightly longer scorch time (T 10) and a bigger vulcanization rate constant (K). This tendency suggested that the existence of NCC accelerated the vulcanization process. Additionally, modified by RH, NR/NCC/CB compounds exhibited a short T 10 and a elevated torque. And a moderate RH content would lower the E a of vulcanization. A 10 phr substitute of CB by NCC can help to improve aging resistance in terms of mechanical properties. In a high temperature aging condition, composites with 10 phr NCC also performed the highest storage modulus (G′) among composites tested. A moderate NCC content contributed to the best retention of G′ after high temperature aging, so did the incorporation of RH. With the partial replacement of CB by NCC, the temperature of 5% weight-lose had a slight drop and the apparent crosslink density showed a decrease. Thanks to the interaction of RH with both NR and NCC, composites showed an improvement in apparent crosslink density after modified by RH.  相似文献
