The effect of metal on the surface-wave spectrum in cylindrical metal-plasma-vacuum-metal and metal-vacuum-plasma-metal waveguide structures and waveguides with a single metal boundary is investigated. It is shown that such boundaries can greatly affect the spectral properties of the waveguide and change the nature of surface-wave dispersion. Analytic expressions are obtained for the frequency of symmetrical surface waves in various spectrum intervals. The strong dependence of phase velocity on the size of the internal metal cylinder that is found can be convenient for beam and wave synchronization in a plasma waveguide.  相似文献

A theory of surface waves in a magnetoactive plasma with smooth boundaries has been developed. A dispersion equation for surface waves has been derived for a linear law of density change at the plasma boundary. The frequencies of surface waves and their collisionless damping rates have been determined. A generalization to an arbitrary density profile at the plasma boundary is given. The collisions have been taken into account, and the application of the Landau rule in the theory of surface wave damping in a spatially inhomogeneous magnetoactive collisional plasma has been clarified.  相似文献

The relativistic traveling wave tube is an important high power microwave source. The corrugated cylindrical waveguide is usually used as slow wave structure of this device. Starting from wave equation and using boundary conditions, dispersion relation is derived for the corrugated waveguide, in which an intense relativistic electron beam propagates along the axis. Two cases which are shorter period and longer period are discussed in this paper respectively. The small signal gain of the relativistic traveling wave tube is analyzed and some conclusions are drawn. The analysis method presented in this paper can be extended to other types of slow wave structures of relativistic traveling wave tube.  相似文献

 理论分析了无限大引导磁场情况下的薄环形等离子体介质切伦柯夫脉塞。得出了通入相对论电子注时行列式形式的热腔色散方程,并求出了波增长率。针对不同等离子体密度下,对色散方程以及波增长率进行数值计算和模拟验证。研究发现与电子注作用的主要模式为低频等离子体模式中的前两个模式,随着等离子体密度的升高,脉塞中心工作频率升高、增益变大、带宽明显变宽,由模拟结果可以看出:等离子体频率为4.5×1019 m-3时对应着最大的输出功率为80 MW,效率为19.75%,频率为15.55 GHz,继续增大等离子体密度虽然可以使输出频率进一步提高,但是同时会使输出功率迅速下降。  相似文献

Dust ion-acoustic waves propagating in a complex plasma containing dusty particles and suprathermal electrons and ions are kinetically analyzed. The suprathermal particles are effectively modeled by the Lorentzian (kappa) velocity distribution function. For a collisionless and unmagnetized plasma, the full spectrum of the dispersion relation is obtained and the suprathermal particle effects on the wave frequency and the Landau damping are investigated. For a given wave number, the wave frequency decreases as the spectral index κ decreases, especially very rapidly in the low κ region. The Landau damping of the wave and its maximum are derived. They are found to be enhanced by the increase of suprathermal particles. The ion-to-electron density ratio also enhances the damping rate greatly.  相似文献

This paper addresses the formulae and numerical issues related to the possibility that fast wave may be grown when a relativistic electron beam through an ion channel in a cylindrical metal waveguide.To derive the dispersion equations of the beam-wave interaction,it solves relativistic Lorentz equation and Maxwell’s equations for appropriate boundary conditions.It has been found in this waveguide structure that the TM 0m modes are the rational operating modes of coupling between the electromagnetic modes and the betatron modes.The interaction of the dispersion curves of the electromagnetic TM 0m modes and the upper betatron modes is studied.The growth rates of the wave are obtained,and the effects of the beam radius,the beam energy,the plasma frequency,and the beam plasma frequency on the wave growth rate are numerically calculated and discussed.  相似文献

A test electron beam is propagated in a specially designed traveling wave tube. It interacts with a nonresonant wave, and its energy distribution is recorded at the tube output. We report the direct experimental observation of the spatially periodic electron velocity bunching, and of a nonlinear effect on the electron velocity modulation: the synchronization of the particles with the wave responsible for Landau damping in plasma physics. The results are explained by second order perturbation theory in the wave amplitude.  相似文献

Electromagnetic wave propagation in a circular waveguide with an axially-placed discharge tube is discussed. Fundamental properties of slow and fast waves are derived from the dispersion formula and a simple oscilloscopic method for the identification of these two waves is demonstrated. The electron density is obtained from the measured phase velocity by numerical calculation of dispersion equation (for real plasma permittivity). Collision frequency is then found from the attenuation factor.  相似文献

The theoretical investigation of terahertz waves and their excitation by electron beam injection in a cylindrical metallic plasma waveguide is investigated. This metallic waveguide includes a cold collisionless unmagnetized annular degenerate plasma and a dielectric rod. The dispersion characteristics of these waves, the frequency spectra of fast and slow E-modes waves (transverse magnetic field), are studied. Also, the effects of the dielectric permittivity, the radius of the dielectric rod and the radius of the plasma on the frequency spectra and the time growth rate of waves are simulated. Here, we present our calculation results of the electromagnetic field distributions and the dispersion characteristics of open cylindrical tube waveguides. The analyzed waveguides are made of the onion-like carbon (OLC) material. The solution of the boundary problem was fulfilled by the partial area method (Nickelson et al. in electrodynamical analysis of open lossy metamaterial waveguide and scattering structures. InTech, UK, pp 27–58 [1]). We have determined the complex roots of the dispersion equation using of the Muller method. It discovered the very complicated dependencies of the phase and attenuation constants on the waveguide radii. Such dependencies arise because the OLC material is the highly dispersive and absorbing one. We have investigated the high-frequency cutoff frequency of the propagating hybrid modes HE11 and HE12 dependent on the tube waveguide external and internal radii. We found that it is possible to reach the one-mode regime of OLC tube waveguide.  相似文献

The dispersion relation for the dust acoustic wave (DAW) in an unmagnetized dusty plasma cylindrical waveguide is derived, accounting for strong electrostatic interactions between charged dust grains. It is found that the boundary effect limits the radial extent of the DAW. The present result should be helpful for understanding the frequency spectrum of the DAW in a dusty plasma waveguide with strongly coupled charged dust grains.  相似文献

The dispersion relation of surface waves propagating on a homogeneous Maxwellian plasma column with sharp boundary and surrounded by dielectric and vacuum is investigated in the low-frequency domain. By using the Fourier components of dielectric tensor elements of cold collisionless degenerate plasmas, the dispersion relation of electromagnetic waves in a cylindrical metallic waveguide with a degenerate plasma column protected by an annular dielectric layer are obtained. The permissible frequency regions for slow and fast waves in E-mode (TM) are presented. Furthermore, the graph of cutoff frequency versus the radius of plasma column for the fast waves is investigated. In addition, the time growth rate for excitation of symmetric slow E-modes (TM) by a thin annular relativistic electron beam (TAREB) is studied. Dust ion-acoustic waves propagation in the magnetized dusty plasma including ions, electrons and dust particulates are studied by using kinetic equation. For unbounded and collisionless plasma and in the presence of uniform external magnetic field B0, electrons and ions with Lorentzian distribution function and dust particles with Maxwellian one are considered. Calculating dielectric tensor through the Vlasov equation solution, in the parallel propagation, dispersion relation is derived and suprathermal particle effects on the Landau damping is studied. It is shown that the Landau damping effect vanishes for parallel propagation.  相似文献

Properties of circumferential and helical normal waves of a cylindrical waveguide, which appear as aperiodic (in angle) solutions to the Helmholtz equation, are considered. The dispersion characteristics and eigenfunctions of these wave are determined for the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions, and the spatial structure of these waves is described in detail. In this paper, the transverse wave propagation in fluid-conveying viscoelastic single-walled carbon nanotubes is investigated based on nonlocal elasticity theory with consideration of surface effect. The governing equation is formulated utilizing nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and Kelvin-Voigt model. Explicit wave dispersion relation is developed and wave phase velocities and frequencies are obtained. The effect of the fluid flow velocity, structural damping, surface effect, small scale effects and tube diameter on the wave propagation properties are discussed with different wave numbers. The wave frequency increases with the increase of fluid flow velocity, but decreases with the increases of tube diameter and wave number. The effect of surface elasticity and residual surface tension is more significant for small wave number and tube diameter. For larger values of wave number and nonlocal parameters, the real part of frequency ratio raises.  相似文献

Nonlinear damping of the Langmuir wave in a weakly inhomogeneous plasma with a negative concentration gradient is considered. For phase velocities close to the thermal velocity of electrons, their dispersion strongly differs from the linear one and cannot be taken into account by means of a small correction to the linear dispersion law. Based on the energy balance and nonlinear dispersion equations, a dependence of the wave amplitude on its phase velocity is established together with the limiting phase velocity at which the wave is completely damped.  相似文献

 利用自洽线性场理论,导出了薄环形相对论电子注通过填充等离子体的介质同轴波导中的注波互作用色散方程,得到了注波互作用产生切伦科夫辐射的同步条件和波增长率。分析了填充等离子体后的波与电子注之间的能量交换及等离子体密度对色散特性、波增长率和注波能量交换的影响。分析结果表明:切伦科夫辐射是由沿介质同轴波导传播的慢波与沿薄环形相对论电子注传播的负能空间电荷波耦合所致,且其耦合强度与电子注的密度成正比;输出频率和波增长率随着填充等离子体密度的增大而提高;保持一定的输出频率,增大电子注的束流可得到高的微波输出功率。  相似文献

The dispersion characteristics of plasma–loaded free-electron laser has been analyzed using linear fluid model. The device under consideration consists of the cylindrical metallic waveguide, completely filled with background plasma and a relativistic electron beam which passes through a helical wiggler magnetic field. The result predicts that reasonable plasma density tends to improve the growth rate of the low-frequency optical wave of FEL and causes an shiftup in the operating frequency, However it has little effect on the growth rate of the high-frequency wave. In the plasma–loaded FEL, for the FEL oscillator, it may be tuned by varying the plasma density; and for the FEL amplifier, the wider frequency bandwidth is gained.
