Poly(styrene)-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) copolymers and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) have been mixed in organic solvents. Complexation via hydrogen bonding occurs between the P4VP and PAA blocks. Those insoluble complexes aggregate to form the core of micelles surrounded by a corona of PS chains. Reorganization of these structures occurs upon addition of acidic or basic water, which results in the breaking of the hydrogen bonds between the P4VP and PAA blocks. After transfer of the initial complexes in acidic water, micelles consisting of a PS core and a protonated P4VP corona are observed. In basic water, well-defined nanoparticles formed by the PS-b-P4VP copolymers are obtained. It is demonstrated that these nanoparticles are stabilized by the negatively charged PAA chains. Finally, thermally induced disintegration of the micelles is investigated in organic solvents.  相似文献

The structure and dynamics of the common polysaccharide dextran have been investigated in mixed solvents at two different temperatures using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and viscosity measurements. More specifically, binary mixtures of a good solvent (water, formamide, dimethylsulfoxide, ethanolamine) and the bad solvent ethanol as the minority component have been considered. The experimentally observed effects on the polymer conformation (intrinsic viscosity, coil radius, and radius of gyration) of the bad solvent addition are discussed in terms of hydrogen bonding density and are correlated with the Hansen solubility parameters and the surface tension of the solvent mixtures. Hydrogen bonding appears to be an important contributor to the solubility of dextran but is not sufficient to capture the dextran coil contraction in the mixtures of good+bad solvents.  相似文献

The thermoreversible gelation of agarose has been investigated in four different aqueous binary solvents: Water/dimethyl sulfoxide, water/N,N-dimethylformamide, water/N-methylformamide, and water/formamide. The phase diagrams have been subsequently established as a function of agarose concentration and solvent composition. These diagrams suggest the formation of ternary complexes agarose/water/cosolvent.  相似文献

The dielectric dispersion and absorption spectra of formamide (FA), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and their binary mixtures are investigated in the frequency range of 500 MHz to 20 GHz at 30 °C in view of the organic synthesis by microwaves heating using amides solvents. The concentration dependent values of molecular reorientation relaxation times lower than that of the ideal mixing behaviour have been attributed to the cooperative dynamics of H-bonded FA–DMF structures. The molar ratio of stable adduct is 2:1 of FA to the DMF, which is determined from the concentration dependent excess static dielectric constant and the relaxation time plots of these binary mixtures. Electrode polarization effect and ionic conduction in FA and DMF were investigated from their dielectric dispersion spectra in the low frequency region of 20 Hz to 1 MHz.  相似文献

Structural and thermodynamic properties of cellulose solutions in the ionic liquid 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium acetate (EMIMAc) and its binary mixtures with N,N‐dimethyl formamide (DMF) are studied by small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS). These measurements indicate molecular dissolution of the cellulose chains without any significant aggregation. The power–law relationships of the evaluated correlation length and osmotic modulus to concentration exhibit exponents of ?0.76 and 2.06 for EMIMAc and ?0.80 and 2.14 for DMF/EMIMAc solvent mixture, respectively. Phenomena associated with the order-disorder transition (ODT) of block copolymers have been studied by optical light microscopy, SAXS, SEM, TEM and DSC. Observations have been made on almost symmetric polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) samples of three molecular weights and their mixture. We observed non-equilibrium supermolecular structures several microns in diameter in the bulk of thick PS-b-PMMA films (ca. 100 μm thickness) prepared by vacuum drying of films cast from a non-selective solvent (after a short-term annealing above the Tg). Apparent LDOT (lower disorder-to-order transition) behaviour is observed for samples with non-equilibrium morphology surviving from solution as deduced from SAXS 1/Im vs 1/T and the full width at half-maximum vs 1/T plots.The measurements point to complex behaviour near the ODT, but homogenization of samples upon long-term annealing well above the Tg temperature call into existence common stacks of lamellae observable in SEM images of microphase-separated samples. This verifies the opinion that the observed apparent LDOT behaviour of samples II, III and II + III is associated with the frozen non-equilibrium morphology surviving from solution. This is confirmed by SAXS measurement on a homogenized sample displaying the expected UDOT behaviour. It has been demonstrated that self-assembled structures prepared by vacuum drying of films cast from a non-selective solvent are non-equilibrium structures and their successive ordering is difficult due to a relative narrow temperature interval between Tg and degradation temperature. The conditions under which BCP films are prepared thus have a pronounced effect on the microstructure and microphase ordering process.  相似文献

Static dielectric constant measurements on binary mixtures of the homologous series of mono alkyl ethers of ethylene glycol with six different characteristic polar solvents i.e. ethyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, glycerol, water, dimethyl formamide and dimethyl sulphoxide over the entire concentration range were carried out using precision LCR meter and a four terminal liquid dielectric test fixture at 1?MHz and 25°C. The concentration dependent excess dielectric constant and Kirkwood correlation factor were determined for the confirmation of solvent–cosolvent heterogeneous molecular interactions. The values of stoichiometric ratio corresponding to maximum interactions between the mixtures constituents were also estimated from the concentration dependent values of ?E. It is observed that the behaviour of heterogeneous interactions significantly varies with the increase in molecular size of the homologous series and also with the change in the mixture constituents. Comparative dielectric parameters values of the studied binary mixtures were applied to recognize the dipolar orientation due to heterogeneous interactions of mono alkyl ethers with hydroxyl group(s) containing solvents and non-hydroxyl group containing solvents.  相似文献

Polyamido acid (PAA) synthesized from pyramellitic dianhydride and diaminodiphenyl-ether has been subjected to thermal analysis by a coupled simultaneous technique (TG, DTG, DTA, TVA). It was established that amide solvents—dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide and N-methyl pyrrolidone—profoundly affect the process of transformation of PAA into polyimide (PI) and thermal characteristics of the latter. It was found that the thermal stability of PI depends on conditions of the preparation of PAA films (drying time and film thickness) and on the boiling point of the solvent. The necessity for a combined approach to the evaluation of thermal stability of PI is shown.  相似文献

The first paper of the series, which focused on the effect of polydispersity on the self-assembly of block copolymer vesicles, showed that an increase in the width of the poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) block length distribution resulted in a decrease in the size of the vesicles formed. In this paper, the rest of the phase diagram is explored. For the present study, a series of polystyrene-b-poly(acrylic acid) copolymers of an identical polystyrene length of 325 units but of varying degrees of polymerization of PAA was synthesized. Mixtures of the copolymers were made to artificially broaden the molecular weight distribution of PAA at a constant number average of 48 in the polydispersity index (PDI) range of 1.1-3.3. The mixtures were dissolved in dioxane, and water was added slowly to predetermined amounts. Transmission electron microscopy was used to observe aggregate morphologies at different water contents and PAA PDIs. At low water contents, dynamic light scattering was also used to measure the sizes of the aggregates. A partial phase diagram as a function of the water content and PAA PDI was obtained. Large compound micelles and spherical micelles (average diameter of 40 nm) were found at low water contents; however, at a water content of 12% (w/w), a continuum of morphologies from spheres to rods to vesicles was found with increasing PAA PDI. In addition, each copolymer was investigated by itself under identical conditions to those used for the mixtures to determine if there was any segregation of the individual polymers into separate aggregates. Thermodynamic data and mechanical measurements are shown for gels prepared in aqueous binary solvents (water/DMSO, water/DMF, water/methyl formamide and water/formamide). When electrostatic interactions, as opposed to hydrogen bonding, can be established with the cosolvent (DMSO, DMF, methyl formamide) we come to the conclusion that ternary complexes are formed (agarose/water/cosolvent). In the case of chemically‐modified agarose (OH groups replaced by OCH3 groups) we suggest that these cosolvents are directly involved in the formation of the gel.  相似文献

Summary: The graft copolymers of Polyacrylamide (PAA) to Dextran (Mw = 20000 and Mw = 70000) have been synthesised by ceric-ion-reduced redox initiation method. Molecular characteristic of graft copolymers were determined from light scattering, SEC, and viscometry data. It was established that the increase of molecular weight of Dextran component up to 3.5 times do not influence essentially organization at molecular level of these copolymers in aqueous solution. ABA block-copolymers in which the A segments are capable of forming complexes and B is a non-complexing segment, have been used to prepare polymer materials with properties that can be changed by adding a complexing agent. The complex forming segments were poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), linear polyethylenimine (LPEI) and poly(N-tert-butylethylenimine) (PTBEI). Commercially available liquid ABA block-copolymers, in which A is PEO and B is poly(propylene oxide), were investigated with high molar mass poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as the complexing agent for PEO. It was found that the mixtures containing 3 to 7 wt.-% of PAA, showed a marked shear-thickening behavior leading eventually to gelation. This was attributed to the transformation of intramolecular polymer complexes, at low shear rates, to intermolecular complexes, at high shear rates, due to the chain stretching of PAA. ABA copolymers in which A is LPEI or PTBEI and B polytetra-hydrofuran (PTHF), were prepared. Complexation of these copolymers with low molecular weight poly-acids or PAA in polar and non-polar solvents as well as in bulk have been investigated. ABA copolymers in which A is PEO and B a PTHF segment were prepared. These block-copolymers show two melting points: one at appr. 55°C, due to the PEO segments, and one at appr. 30°C due to the PTHF. Upon addition of alkali metal salts such as sodium iodide or sodium thiocyanate, complexes with PEO are formed and as a consequence, the melting point of the PEO segments shifts to appr. 160°C. The complexed materials behave as thermoplastic elastomers up to that temperature.  相似文献

A versatile coupling reaction for the preparation of polybutadiene–poly‐(hexafluoropropylene oxide) (BF) diblock copolymers is described. Six diblock copolymers with different block lengths were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography; all six had total molecular weights below 15,000. Microphase separation of the block copolymers in the bulk state was established by small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) and differential scanning calorimetry. SAXS data suggest that the diblocks are characterized by an unusually large Flory‐Huggins interaction parameter, χ, on the order of 10. However, extraction of χ from the order–disorder transition gave large (order 1) but significantly different values, thereby suggesting that these copolymers are too small and too strongly interacting to be described by block copolymer mean‐field theory. Dynamic light scattering was used to analyze dilute solutions of the title block copolymers in four selective organic solvents; the sizes of the micelles formed were solvent dependent. The micellar aggregates were large and nonspherical, and this is also attributed to the high degree of incompatibility between the two immiscible blocks. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The phase behavior (temperature vs composition) and microstructure for the two binary systems Pluronic 25R4 [(PO)19(EO)33(PO)19]-water and Pluronic 25R2 [(PO)21(EO)14(PO)21]-water have been studied by a combined experimental approach in the whole concentration range and from 5 to 80 degrees C. The general phase behavior has been identified by inspection under polarized light. Precise phase boundaries have been determined by analyzing 2H NMR line shape. The identification and microstructural characterization of the liquid crystalline phases have been achieved using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The isotropic liquid solution phases have been investigated by self-diffusion measurements (PGSE-NMR method). 25R2 does not form liquid crystals and is miscible with water in the whole concentration range; with increasing temperature, the mixtures split into water-rich and a copolymer-rich solutions in equilibrium. 25R4 shows rich phase behavior, passing, with increasing copolymer concentration, from a water-rich solution to a lamellar and copolymer-rich solution. A small hexagonal phase, completely encircled in the stability region of the water-rich solution, is also present. In water-rich solutions, at low temperatures and low copolymer concentrations, the copolymers are dissolved as independent macromolecules. With increasing copolymer concentrations an interconnected network of micelles is formed in which micellar cores of hydrophobic poly(propylene oxide) are interconnected by poly(ethylene oxide) strands. In copolymer-rich solutions water is molecularly dissolved in the copolymer. The factors influencing the self-aggregation of Pluronic R copolymers (PPO-PEO-PPO sequence) are discussed, and their behavior in water is compared to that of Pluronic copolymers (PEO-PPO-PEO sequence).  相似文献

We have studied the structure and rheological behavior of viscoelastic wormlike micellar solutions in the mixed nonionic surfactants poly(oxyethylene) cholesteryl ether (ChEO15)-trioxyethylene monododecyl ether (C12EO3) and anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-C12EO3 using a series of glycerol/water and formamide/water mixed solvents. The obtained results are compared with those reported in pure water for the corresponding mixed surfactant systems. The zero-shear viscosity first sharply increases with C12EO3 addition and then decreases; i.e., there is a viscosity maximum. The intensity (viscosity) and position (C12EO3 fraction) of this maximum shift to lower values upon an increase in the ratio of glycerol in the glycerol/water mixed solvent, while the position of the maximum changes in an opposite way with increasing formamide. In the case of the SDS/C12EO3 system, zero-shear viscosity shows a decrease with an increase of temperature, but for the ChEO15/C12EO3 system, again, the zero-shear viscosity shows a maximum if plotted as a function of temperature, its position depending on the C12EO3 mixing fraction. In the studied nonionic systems, worm micelles seem to exist at low temperatures (down to 0 degrees C) and high glycerol concentrations (up to 50 wt %), which is interesting from the viewpoint of applications such as drag reduction fluids. Rheology results are supported by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements on nonionic systems, which indicate micellar elongation upon addition of glycerol or increasing temperature and shortening upon addition of formamide. The results can be interpreted in terms of changes in the surface curvature of aggregates and lyophobicity.  相似文献

Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) is a well known weak polyelectrolyte in water but little is known about the solvation behavior of PAA in the mixtures of alcohol?+?water. In this study, the solvation behavior of PAA in the mixed solvents composed of 2-butoxyethanol (2BE)?+?water were investigated by measurements of volumetric properties, electrical conductivity, resonance light scattering and dynamic light scattering. All the measured experimental properties showed extrema or abrupt changes at a 2BE mole fraction of about 0.017 in 2BE?+?water. This may be explained by the formation of aggregates of 2BE and water, which is a poor solvent for PAA and results in cononsolvency of PAA in the mixture of the two good solvents, 2BE and water. We found that the volumetric property is sensitive to the occurrence of the specific aggregate of 2BE and water and the interactions in the complex fluid mixtures.  相似文献

The synthesis of amphiphilic triblock copolymers, poly(di[methylamine]ethyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(di[methylamine]ethyl methacrylate) PDMAE‐b‐PCH‐b‐PDMAE, has been performed by atom transfer radical polymerisation. Those have been obtained in a well‐controlled manner in terms of molecular weight and polydispersity index. The triblock copolymer characterisation has been made in condensed state and in solution. The existence of microphase separation has been confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry. However, the domains of both inner and outer blocks seem not to be ordered for one another from small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) measurements using synchrotron radiation. The micelle formation in dilute methanol solutions has been confirmed for all triblock copolymers by dynamic light scattering analyses. The size of these micelles has been demonstrated to be dependent on the molecular weight. Similar observations have been made in concentrate methanol solutions by using SAXS experiments, pointed also out that an increment of the intermicelle interactions is produced as the concentration increases. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Bischler-Napieralski cyclization has been successfully employed to prepare planar S,N-heteroacenes (SNHs) with the analogue structures to 1,10-phenanthroline. The opto-/electrical properties and the packing modes of these S,Nheteroacenes were examined, which were dependent on the structure of the fused groups. SNH-based copolymers with high molecular weight and good solubility in common organic solvents or water have been synthesized by Suzuki-Miyaura- Schlüter polycondensation. The photophysical property studies revealed that the copolymers may be a promising chemosensor material.  相似文献

Current study is focused on the synthesis of three novel diblock copolymers poly(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocene carboxylate-b-polymethyl vinyl amido phenyl boronic acid, poly(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocene carboxylate-b-poly vinylamido phenyl boronic acid and poly(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocene carboxylate-b-polystyrene boronic acid using S-methoxycarbonylphenylmethyl dithiobenzoate as reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization agent. The synthesized block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Detailed micellization behaviour of poly(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocene carboxylate-b-polymethyl vinyl amido phenyl boronic acid (in binary organic solvents mixture and aqueous solution) was studied. Comparative studies of micellization showed that the larger aggregates were obtained in binary organic solvents system than during dialysis in aqueous medium. The redox responsive behaviour of poly(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocene carboxylate-b-polymethyl vinyl amido phenyl boronic acid was investigated by water soluble oxidizing (Ammonium cerium nitrate) and reducing (Sodium hydrogen sulphite) agents. Glucose binding/sensing properties of poly(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocene carboxylate-b-polymethyl vinyl amido phenyl boronic acid were also explored by micellization. It was found that the increase in polarity and swelling of poly(2-methacryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocene carboxylate-b-polymethyl vinyl amidophenyl boronic acid micelles was due to the redox behaviour of ferrocene, while binding of glucose with boronic acids hydroxyls appears as unimers or small aggregates.  相似文献
