Unsaturated poly (ester–amide)s resins (UPEAs) were prepared by the reaction between an epoxy resin, namely diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) and unsaturated aliphatic bisamic acids (B14) using a base catalyst. These UPEAs were then diluted by styrene and blended with commercial unsaturated polyester resin (o-phthalic anhydride based) to produce a homogeneous resin. The curing of these Styrenated UPEAs–UPR blends was carried out using Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as a catalyst and N,N′-Dimethyl aniline (DMA) as a promoter. The glass fiber reinforced composites (i.e. laminates) of these Styrenated UPEAs–UPR (o-phthalic anhydride based) blends were fabricated. The mechanical and chemical resistance properties of the glass fiber composites have also been evaluated. The unreinforced cured samples of the Styrenated UPEAs–UPR (o-phthalic anhydride based) blends were also analyzed by thermogravimetry (TGA).  相似文献

The study is focused on thermoset composites reinforced with carbon and glass woven fabrics. Two types of thermoset resins, for example, epoxy and vinyl ester were used as the matrix. Varying concentrations of internal mold releasing (IMR) agent was used in the resin. The composites were cured both at room temperature and at 80°C. The flexural properties were studied using 3‐point bending test method. Further theinter‐laminar shear strength (ILSS) was investigated using the short beam shear strength test based on 3‐point bending. The flexural modulus of room temperature cured epoxy resin is higher than that of high temperature cured epoxy resin and cured vinyl ester resin. The flexural modulus is lowest for 1% IMR sample in epoxy system and the modulus for 0% and 2% epoxy are not significantly different. Lowest flexural strength and modulus can be observed for the combination of reinforcement and curing conditions for samples containing 1% IMR for the epoxy systems. Carbon fiber is found to be less compatible with the vinyl ester resin system and the addition of IMR to the resin degraded the properties further. Inter‐laminar shear strength for epoxy‐based composites is not much affected by presence of IMR, but in case of vinyl ester based composites there is a decrease in ILSS on addition of IMR agent. The study explains variation in flexural properties on addition of IMR and change of curing conditions. These results can be used for ascertaining variation in mechanical properties in real use.  相似文献

This study aims to investigate the curing behavior of a vinyl ester‐polyester resin suspensions containing 0.3 wt % of multiwalled carbon nanotubes with and without amine functional groups (MWCNTs and MWCNT‐NH2). For this purpose, various analytical techniques, including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman Spectroscopy, and Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) were conducted. The resin suspensions with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared via 3‐roll milling technique. DSC measurements showed that resin suspensions containing CNTs exhibited higher heat of cure (Q), besides lower activation energy (Ea) when compared with neat resin. For the sake of simplicity of interpretation, FTIR investigations were performed on neat vinyl ester resin suspensions containing the same amount of CNTs as resin. As a result, the individual fractional conversion rates of styrene and vinyl ester were interestingly found to be altered dependent on MWCNTs and MWCNT‐NH2. The findings obtained from RS measurements of the cured samples are highly proportional to those obtained from FTIR measurements. TGA measurements revealed that CNT modified nanocomposites have higher activation energy of degradation (Ed) compared with the cured polymer. The findings obtained revealed that CNTs with and without amine functional groups alter overall thermal curing response of the surrounding matrix resin, which may probably impart distinctive characteristics to mechanical behavior of the corresponding nanocomposites achieved. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A epoxy resin (DGEBA, LY 556) was toughened with 5%, 10% and 15% (by wt) of caprolactam blocked methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (CMDI) using 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) as curing agent. The toughened epoxy resin was further modified with chemical modifier N,N′-bismaleimido-4,4′-diphenylmethane (BMI). Caprolactam blocked methylenediphenyl diisocyanate was synthesized by the reaction of caprolactam with methylenediphenyl diisocyanate in presence of carbon tetrachloride under nitrogen atmosphere. Thermal properties of the developed matrices were characterized by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), heat distortion temperature (HDT) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Mechanical properties like tensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength were tested as per ASTM standards. The glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal stability were decreased with increase in the percentage incorporation of CMDI. The thermomechanical properties of caprolactam blocked methylenediphenyl diisocyanate toughened epoxy resin were increased by increasing the percentage incorporation of bismaleimide. The values of impact strength for epoxy resin were increased with increase in the percentage concentration of CMDI. The homogeneous morphology of CMDI toughened epoxy resin and bismaleimide modified CMDI toughened epoxy resin system were ascertained from scanning electron microscope (SEM).  相似文献

Cardanol-based epoxidized novolac vinyl ester resin (CNEVER) was synthesized by reacting cardanol-based epoxidized novolac (CNE) resin and methacrylic acid (MA) (CNE:MA molar ratio 1:0.9) in presence of triphenylphosphine as catalyst at 90 °C. The CNE resin was prepared by the reaction of cardanol-based novolac-type phenolic (CFN) resin and epichlorohydrin, in basic medium, at 120 °C. The CFN resin was synthesized by reacting cardanol (C) and formaldehyde (F) (C/F ratio = 1:0.7) with p-toluene sulphonic acid (PTSA) as catalyst (0.5 wt.%) at 120 °C for 7 h. The resin products were analyzed by Fourier-transform infra-red (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic analysis. The number-average molecular weight of the prepared CNEVER was found to be 859 gmol−1 as determined by gel permeation chromatographic (GPC) analysis. The resin was cured by using the mixture of resin, benzoyl peroxide, and styrene at 120 °C. The CNEVER resin was found to be cured in 60 min at 120 °C. Differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) technique was used to investigate the curing behaviour. Single step mass loss in dynamic thermogravimetric (TG) trace of CNEVER was observed. Thermal stability of the vinyl ester sample containing 40 wt.% styrene was the highest amongst all other prepared systems.  相似文献

A thermoplastic toughener, polyether sulphone (PES) and a number of different types of flame retardants were blended in different ratios with a commercial epoxy resin triglycidyl-p-aminophenol (TGAP) and 4,4-diamino diphenyl sulphone (DDS) a curing agent. The effect of type and levels of flame retardants (FR) and the toughening agent on the curing, thermal decomposition and char oxidation behaviour of the epoxy resin was studied by the simultaneous differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetric techniques. It was observed that the toughener slightly increases the curing temperature (by up to 20 °C) but had minimal effect on the decomposition temperature of the resin. Flame retardants, however affected all stages depending upon the type of flame retardant used. The curing peak for samples containing tougher and flame retardants although slightly changed depending upon the type of FR, was not more than ± 20 °C compared to that of samples containing toughener only. All flame retardants lowered the decomposition temperature of the epoxy resin. Phosphorus- and nitrogen-containing flame retardants reduced the char oxidation leading to more residual char, whereas halogen- containing flame retardants had less effect on this stage.  相似文献

Unsaturated bisamic acids were prepared by reaction between maleic anhydride and different aromatic diamines. Unsaturated poly(ester-amide) resin (UPEAs) was prepared by reaction of diglycidylether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) with unsaturated bisamic acids. Acrylation of Unsaturated poly(ester-amide)s (UPEAs) was carried out to afford acrylated UPEAs resin (i.e., AUPEAs). Interacting blends of Acrylated unsaturated poly(ester-amide)s (AUPEAs) with vinyl ester epoxy (VE) resin were prepared. APEAs and AUPEAs were characterized by elemental analysis, molecular weight determined by vapor pressure osmometer and by IR spectral study and by thermogravimetry. The curing of interacting blends was monitored on differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). Based on DSC data in situ glass reinforced composites of the resultant blends have been prepared and characterized for mechanical, electrical and chemical properties. Unreinforced blends were characterized thermo-gravimetrically (TGA).  相似文献

The effects of water absorption on hydrophilic polymer matrices based on carboxylic functionalized glucose (glucose maleic acid ester vinyl resin) and epoxy resins were studied as a function of curing temperature. The matrix cured at higher temperature shows compact crosslinks due to the higher concentration of ether bonds comparing to the matrix cured at the lower temperature. The polymer matrices cured at different temperatures were immersed in water at room temperature for 1000 h and the thermomechanical properties of the cured polymers were characterized using DMA and TGA. Two types of sorbed water were identified. Type I sorbed water contributed mainly to increasing the weight and to the decrease in Tg due to a plasticizer effect. Type II sorbed water was not removed after heating the polymer to 110 °C for an hour. Type II sorbed water causes changes in the mechanical properties of the polymers cured at different temperatures depending on the crosslinks of the matrix. The cured matrix at the higher temperature has the comparatively tight crosslinks in the network structure and the sorbed water molecule disturbed the polymer network resulting in the degradation of the matrix such as microcracks.  相似文献

The thermal properties of blends of melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin and poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) for engineered flooring used on the Korean traditional ONDOL house floor heating system were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). The viscoelastic properties of the blends were also studied. Because MF resin is a thermosetting adhesive, the effect of MF rein was shown across all thermal behaviors. The addition of PVAc reduced the curing temperature. The TGA results showed that the DTGmax temperature and thermal stability of the blends increased with increasing PVAc content. The blends were examined in non-isothermal DSC experiments at a heating rate of 10 °C/min. There was an exothermic peak in all the heating scanning curves, with each blend displaying a single curing peak temperature (Tp), intermediate between those of the two pure components and varying with the blend composition. The DMTA thermogram of MF resin showed that the storage modulus (E′) increased as the temperature was further increased as a result of the cross-linking induced by the curing reaction of the resin. E′ of MF resin increased both as a function of increasing temperature and with increasing heating rate.  相似文献

Due to its mechanical properties and ease of use, vinyl ester resin is enjoying increasing consideration. This resin normally is produced by reaction between epoxy resin and unsaturated carboxylic acid. In the present study, bis-phenol A based epoxy resin and methacrylic acid was used to produce vinyl ester resin. The reaction was conducted under both stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric conditions in the presence of triphenylphosphine as catalyst. The stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric experiments were conducted at 95, 100, 105 and 110℃and at 90 and 95℃, respectively. The first order rate equation and mechanism based rate equation were examined. Parameters are evaluated by least square method. A comparison of mechanism based rate equation and experimental data show an excellent agreement. Finally, Arrhenius equation and activation energy were presented.  相似文献

A vinyl ester resin was modified into half ester-acids by reaction with phthalic, maleic, and succinic anhydrides, using pyridine as catalyst. GPC analysis indicated that the reaction proceeds without crosslinking or polymerization. 13C-NMR analysis showed that the β-isomer of the vinyl ester resin containing a primary hydroxyl group reacts much more rapidly than the α-isomer with a secondary hydroxyl group.  相似文献

Carbon-fibre prepregs have found widespread use in lightweight applications. They are based on a carbon-fibre fabric impregnated with reactive epoxy resin. Prepreg materials are generally pre-cured so that they have a higher molecular weight than typical resins in order to reduce resin flow, which facilitates storage and later processing properties. The measurements were carried out using commercially available materials and follow the published DMA investigations of the same material [1]. TMDSC was used to find the correlation between curing conditions, the degree of cure and glass transition temperature. TMDSC has the advantage over standard DSC that it enables better determination of the glass transition temperature, which is often accompanied by an exothermic curing reaction, and thus overshadowed. The influence of the amplitude of temperature modulation was tested in preliminary experiments. For non-cured material a glass transition temperature of approximately 0 °C was determined; whereas for the totally cured material it was approximately 230 °C. The changes in degree of cure, temperature of actual glass transition and post-reaction are given as a function of curing time at 180 °C. The correlation between actual glass transition temperature and degree of cure is derived.  相似文献

To obtain adsorbents for boron(III) derived from a natural polymer, two forms (powder and fiber) of N-methylglucamine-type cellulose derivatives were newly synthesized. After the graft polymerization of two forms of cellulose with vinyl monomer having epoxy groups, the N-methylglucamine-type cellulose derivatives were obtained by the reaction of the grafted cellulose with N-methylglucamine. The adsorption capacities of the cellulose derivatives for boron(III) were the same levels as that of a commercially available N-methylglucamine-type polystyrene resin. However, the cellulose derivatives adsorbed boron(III) more quickly than the polystyrene resin. The adsorption and desorption of boron(III) with a column method using the cellulose fiber were achieved at a higher flow rate than that using the polystyrene resin. In addition, the boron(III), adsorbed on the cellulose fiber column, was quantitatively recovered with dilute hydrochloric acid in 20- and 200-fold increased concentrations. Consequently, it was found that the cellulose derivatives were superior to the polystyrene resin as adsorbents for boron(III) for treatment of a large quantity of wastewater.  相似文献

Selective lipase-catalyzed acylation of 41-desmethoxyrapamycin has been achieved with a quaternary carboxylic acid avoiding the use of vinyl ester activation. Among the acyl donors investigated, the novel butanedione-monooxime and the N-acetylhydroxamate ester proved to be the most efficient donors, comparable in reactivity to the undesired vinyl ester and allowing selective, preparative acylation on gram scale in excellent yields. These new donors are proposed as sustainable and process-friendly alternatives to the widely used vinyl ester substrate activation in lipase-catalyzed acylations of secondary alcohols.  相似文献

An intercrosslinked network of cyanate ester (CE)-bismaleimide (BMI) modified epoxy matrix system was made by using epoxy resin, 1,3-dicyanatobenzene and bismaleimide (N,N-bismaleimido-4,4-diphenyl methane) with diaminodiphenylmethane as curing agent. BMI-CE-epoxy matrices were characterised using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and heat deflection temperature (HDT) analysis. The matrices, in the form of castings, were characterised for their mechanical properties such as tensile strength, flexural strength and unnotched Izod impact test as per ASTM methods. Mechanical studies indicated that the introduction of cyanate ester into epoxy resin improves the toughness and flexural strength with reduction in tensile strength and glass transition temperature, whereas the incorporation of bismaleimide into epoxy resin influences the mechanical and thermal properties according to its percentage content. DSC thermograms of cyanate ester as well as BMI modified epoxy resin show an unimodal reaction exotherm. Electrical properties were studied as per ASTM method and the morphology of the BMI modified epoxy and CE-epoxy systems were studied by scanning electron microscope.  相似文献

Novel modified cyanate ester resins (EPMPS‐n/BADCy), with significantly decreased dielectric loss and improved toughness, were developed by copolymerizing the cyanate ester resin, 2, 2′‐bis (4‐cyanatophenyl) isopropylidene resin) (BADCy), with an epoxidized methyl phenyl silicone resin (EPMPS). The curing behavior of EPMPS‐n/BADCy and the typical properties of the corresponding cured EPMPS‐n/BADCy were systematically investigated. The results show that the addition of EPMPS into BADCy can not only accelerate the curing reaction of BADCy, but also decrease dielectric loss and enhance the impact strength as well as water resistance. For example, in the case of the modified BADCy resin with 15 wt%EPMPS, its impact strength is 17.8 kJ/m2, about 3 times of that of pure BADCy resin and its water absorption is only 0.25%, about one‐half of that of pure BADCy resin. In addition, while the dielectric loss is only 79% of that of pure BADCy resin, while its dielectric constant remains constant over the frequency range of 1KHz‐1 MHz. The above results suggest that EPMPS‐n/BADCy have great potential to be used as the matrix or adhesive for advanced composites. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A series of new modified epoxy resin (EP) cured products were prepared from epoxidized soybean oil and commercial epoxy resin, with methyl nadic anhydride as curing agent and 1-methylimidazole as promoting agent. The thermal properties of the resins were characterized by DMA and TG; DSC was used to determine the curing process. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was utilized to investigate their molecular structures and scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the micro morphology of their impact fracture surfaces. Tensile and impact testing was employed to characterize the mechanical properties of the cured products. The combination of commercial EP with 20 wt% ESO resulted in a bioresin with the optimum set of properties: 130.5 °C T g, 396.9 °C T 50 %, 74.89 MPa tensile strength, and 48.86 kJ m?2 impact resistance.  相似文献
