We study phase synchronization for a ratchet system. We consider the deterministic dynamics of a particle in a tilted ratchet potential with an external periodic forcing, in the overdamped case. The ratchet potential has to be tilted in order to obtain a rotator or self-sustained nonlinear oscillator in the absence of external periodic forcing. This oscillator has an intrinsic frequency that can be entrained with the frequency of the external driving. We introduced a linear phase through a set of discrete time events and the associated average frequency, and show that this frequency can be synchronized with the frequency of the external driving. In this way, we can properly characterize the phenomenon of synchronization through Arnold tongues, which represent regions of synchronization in parameter space, and discuss their implications for transport in ratchets.  相似文献

The channel noise that stems from the stochastic nature of the ion channel has important effects on neuronal dynamics. In this context, we investigate the effect of the sub-threshold periodic current forcing on the regularity and synchronization of neuronal spiking activity by using a stochastic extension of the Hodgkin–Huxley model. We demonstrate that the intrinsic coherence resonance is independent of the forcing frequency for very small patch size while it is dependent on the frequency for larger sizes. We also show that the observed phase locking behavior occurs on the positive phase of the periodic current forcing for a small frequency range while the spikes fire most frequently at negative phase as the frequency is increased.  相似文献

We study the motion of a spiral wave controlled by a local periodic forcing imposed on a region around the spiral tip in an excitable medium. Three types of trajectories of spiral tip are observed: the epicycloid-like meandering, the resonant drift, and the hypocycloid-like meandering. The frequency of the spiral is sensitive to the local periodic forcing. The dependency of spiral frequency on the amplitude and size of local periodic forcing are presented. In addition, we show how the drift speed and direction are adjusted by the amplitude and phase of local periodic forcing, which is consistent with a theoretical analysis based on the weak deformation approximation.  相似文献

A novel approach is suggested for detecting the presence or absence of synchronization between two or three interacting processes with different time scales in univariate data. It is based on an angle-of-return-time map. A model is derived to describe analytically the behavior of angles for a periodic oscillator under weak periodic and quasiperiodic forcing. An explicit connection is demonstrated between the return angle and the phase of the external periodic forcing. The technique is tested on simulated nonstationary data and applied to human heart rate variability data.  相似文献

The two light-sensitive neurons in the crayfish's abdominal sixth ganglion ("caudal photoreceptors," or CPRs), are both primary light sensors and secondary neurons in a mechanosensory pathway. Pei et al. (1996) demonstrated that light enhances the transduction of weak, periodic hydrodynamic stimuli (measured as an increase in the signal-to-noise ratio at the stimulus frequency in the power spectrum of the recorded neural spikes). This has been interpreted as a stochastic resonance effect, in which added light increases the noise intensity of the input to the photoreceptor (possibly through fluctuations in membrane potential), leading to an enhancement of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Here, we discuss the recent demonstration (Bahar et al., 2002) of the correlation between a stochastic-resonance-like effect and an increase in stochastic phase synchronization between the neural response and a periodic mechanical stimulus. We also discuss a novel effect (Bahar et al., 2002) in which light increases the SNR of the second higher harmonic of a periodic input signal, effectively rectifying the input signal. This "second harmonic effect" can also be interpreted in terms of stochastic phase synchronization (Bahar et al., 2002). We review other recent results on the role of stochastic phase synchronization in mediating sensory responses in the crayfish nervous system.  相似文献

We study the firing synchronization behavior of the inhomogeneous excitable media. Phase synchronizationof neuron firings is observed with increasing the coupling, while the phases of neurons are different (out-of-phase synchronization). We found the synchronization of bursts can be greatly enhanced by applying an external forcing (in-phasesynchronization). 根据非线性双稳系统在噪声和弱周期信号作用下产生随机共振的随机同步条件,提出了随机共振控制的频率匹配方法.理论分析和数值仿真结果表明,随机共振是可控制的,通过控制输入信号的频率和噪声的统计特性,不仅能拓宽产生随机共振的频率范围,而且能增强共振的强度,从而实现有更多的噪声能量转换为信号能量. 关键词: 随机共振 非线性双稳系统 频率匹配 控制  相似文献

以环形耦合Duffing振子系统为研究对象,分析了耦合振子间的同步演化过程.发现在弱耦合条件下,如果所有振子受到同一周期策动力的驱动,那么系统在经历倍周期分岔、混沌态、大尺度周期态的相变时,各振子的运动轨迹之间将出现由同步到不同步再到同步的两次突变现象.利用其中任何一次同步突变现象可以实现系统相变的快速判别,并由此补充了利用倍周期分岔与混沌态的这一相变对微弱周期信号进行检测的方法. 关键词: Duffing振子 同步突变 相变 微弱信号检测  相似文献

The optimal response in the Lamb-Oseen vortex is studied by considering the harmonically forced problem with frequency ω. High variance levels are sustained in these systems under periodic forcing. In the axisymmetric case n=0, the response is the largest when the input frequency is zero. When considering helical perturbations n=1, large response is excited through resonance mechanism at moderate and large wavelengths. At smaller wavelengths, large response is excited by steady forcing. For perturbations with higher azimuthal wavenumbers |n|>1, the magnitudes of the response are smaller than those for helical modes. For given axial wavenumber and input frequency, the response increases rapidly with Re, which points to the significance of energy growth in high-Reynolds-number practical flows.  相似文献

We study a cell population described by a minimal mathematical model of the eukaryotic cell cycle subject to periodic forcing that simultaneously perturbs the dynamics of the cell cycle engine and cell growth, and we show that the population can be synchronized in a mode-locked regime. By simplifying the model to two variables, for the phase of cell cycle progression and the mass of the cell, we calculate the Lyapunov exponents to obtain the parameter window for synchronization. We also discuss the effects of intrinsic mitotic fluctuations, asymmetric division, and weak mutual coupling on the pace of synchronization.  相似文献

We have studied the motion of a particle in a periodic potential plus a bias, driven by a noise and a coherent forcing. The response (power spectrum) of the particle at the driving forcing frequency is considered for different values of the noise intensity and of the bias. It is shown via direct simulation that the response displays the phenomenon of stochastic resonance, although the phenomenology is somehow different from the one observed in the standard bistable system.  相似文献

We define magnetization for a noisy autoassociative neural network driven by an external periodic field. Numerical simulations are carried out to investigate the effect of drive amplitude and frequency and noise strength on the area of the hysteresis loop. We observe that in the presence of weak periodic signal, the network exhibits a maximum in the hysteresis loop area at a nonzero noise intensity indicating maximum synchronization between the periodic signal and the response. It also goes through a maximum as a function of signal frequency.  相似文献

We analyze the phenomenon of anticipating synchronization of two excitable systems with unidirectional delayed coupling which are subject to the same external forcing. We demonstrate for different paradigms of excitable system that, due to the coupling, the excitability threshold for the slave system is always lower than that for the master. As a consequence the two systems respond to a common external forcing with different response times. This allows us to explain in a simple way the mechanism behind the phenomenon of anticipating synchronization in excitable systems.  相似文献

Uniform oscillations in spatially extended systems resonate with temporal periodic forcing within the Arnold tongues of single forced oscillators. The Arnold tongues are wedge-like domains in the parameter space spanned by the forcing amplitude and frequency, within which the oscillator's frequency is locked to a fraction of the forcing frequency. Spatial patterning can modify these domains. We describe here two pattern formation mechanisms affecting frequency locking at half the forcing frequency. The mechanisms are associated with phase-front instabilities and a Turing-like instability of the rest state. Our studies combine experiments on the ruthenium catalyzed light-sensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction forced by periodic illumination, and numerical and analytical studies of two model systems, the FitzHugh-Nagumo model and the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation, with additional terms describing periodic forcing.  相似文献

Experiments were carried out on arrays of chaotic electrochemical oscillators to which global coupling, periodic forcing, and feedback were applied. The global coupling converts a very weakly coupled set of chaotic oscillators to a synchronized state with sufficiently large values of coupling strength; at intermediate values both intermittent and stable chaotic cluster states occur. Cluster formation and synchronization were also obtained by applying feedback and forcing to a moderately coupled base state. The three cases differ, however, in other details. The feedback and forcing also produce periodic cluster states and more than two clusters. Configurations of two (chaotic) clusters and two, three, or four (periodic) clusters were observed. We propose a method for the determination of a characteristic oscillation frequency for a broad class of chaotic oscillators generating complex signals. It is based on the locking of standard periodic self-sustained oscillators by an irregular signal. The method is applied to experimental data from chaotic electrochemical oscillators, where other approaches of frequency determination (e.g., based on Hilbert transform) fail. Using the method we characterize the effects of phase synchronization for systems with ill-defined phase by external forcing and due to mutual coupling.  相似文献

Summary A neural-network model of the phenomenon of perceptual bistability in the presence of ambiguous figure is studied under the influence of a weak periodic perturbation. Computer simulations of the dynamical behaviour of the network show all the main characteristics of stochastic resonance. Preliminary results of a non-simulated experiment show a high degree of synchronization between the external modulation and the perceptual fluctuations.
