The dynamics of mechanisms associated with the ionization of inner-shell electrons in relativistic collisions involving heavy and highly-charged ions is investigated within a nonperturbative approach formulated explicitly in the time domain. The theoretical treatment is based on the exact numerical solution of the time dependent Dirac equation for two Coulomb centers on a lattice in momentum space. We present results for ionization in encounters between 100 MeV/u Au79+ projectile ions impinging on a hydrogen-like uranium target. By directly visualizing the collision dynamics we identify a new ionization mechanism in which electrons are emitted from the internuclear region preferentially in the transverse direction with respect to the projectile trajectory. A striking characteristic of this ionization mechanism is that the velocity of the electron is higher than the projectile velocity. A rather complete experimental study of forward and backward electron velocity spectra from thin foils bombarded with ions at constant velocity of 30 atomic units (23MeV u^-1) was performed. Three different beams ( 12C3+ , 58Ni14+ and 197Au36+ and six different targets ( 12C , 27Al , natNi , natAg , 197Au and 209Bi of approximately 90μg cm^-2 thickness were used. This procedure allowed to study the evolution of electron emission (velocity and angular distributions) for the [projectile; target] matrix [ C , Ni , Au ; C , Al , Ni , Ag , Au , Bi ] in a wide angular range. The projectile and target dependence of absolute cross-sections for binary encounter-, Auger- and backward-emitted electrons are analyzed.  相似文献

We present results of theoretical studies of the non-resonant excitation transfer in Rb(7S) + Rb(5S) and Rb(5D) + Rb(5S) collisions at thermal collision energies. Rb2 adiabatic molecular terms correlating with the 5S+7S, 5S+5D and 5P+5P states of separated atoms were calculated for internuclear distances R > 20 a.u. using asymptotic approximation. Mechanisms of collisional population and quenching of the 5D state were treated on the basis of the computed molecular terms, and the respective cross-sections were calculated. Theoretical cross-sections are in good agreement with the experimental values at thermal collision energies ( K). Received 13 November 1998 and Received in final form 22 November 1999  相似文献

Glauber's theory has been adopted to calculate the total heavy-ion reaction cross-sections at high energies. At relatively low energies, Glauber's total reaction cross-section has been modified in order to take into account the Coulomb field effect and is called modified Glauber model I. In addition to the Coulomb field effect, the nuclear effect has also been taken into account in the Glauber model and is called modified Glauber model II. An analytical expression for the transparency function for heavy-ion reactions, involving the nuclear densities of the colliding ions and the nucleon-nucleon cross- section, has been obtained within the framework of the modified Glauber models I and II. The transparency and the total reaction cross-sections of the 12C + 12C collisions are calculated at different bombarding energies. The obtained results are in good agreement with the experimental data and with previous theoretical calculations. Received: 26 January 2001 / Accepted: 15 October 2001  相似文献

A non-partial-wave Coulomb-Born theory is recently formulated to treat the excitation of many-electron atomic ions for impact by an arbitrary charged particle [Y.B. Duan et al., Phys. Rev. A 56, 2431 (1997)]. The multiple expansion of the transition matrix element is decomposed into the target form factor and the projectile form factor. These are the matrix elements of the tensor operators between quantum states so that any complicated wave function for the target ion can be employed. In this formal theory, an infinitesimally small positive quantity is introduced artificially to guarantee the convergence of integrals. As a supplementary part of the theory, we discuss how to choose the value of . It is found that the should be taken as functions of the momentum transfer and multipolarity . Illustrations are carried out by calculating the cross-sections for some typical transitions n a l a -n b l b of hydrogen-like ions for impact by electron, positron, and proton, respectively. The resulting cross-sections are in good agreement with ones produced by using a method available for ion targets with Slater-type orbitals [N.C. Deb, N.C. Sil, Phys. Rev. A 28, 2806 (1993)]. Comparisons demonstrate that the Coulomb-Born theory with non-partial wave analysis provides a powerful method to treat the excitation of many-electron atomic ions impact by an arbitrary charged particle. A reduced dimensionality model is used to study the reaction OO O 3 ( X1A1 ) + O( 3 P ) by means of time-dependent and time-independent quantum-mechanical methods. State-selected probabilities and rate constants are obtained for the reactive process as well as for the inelastic collision in which the vibrationally excited oxygen loses one or more quanta. It is found that the experimentally observed jump in depletion rates above a critical value of v could be partially explained by the vibrational relaxation rather than reaction. Reaction only becomes important for relatively high translational energies and therefore the calculated rates are too small at the temperatures of interest. It is concluded, however, that the reaction saddle point region in the potential energy surface plays a crucial role in the enhancement of vibrational relaxation. Peculiar properties of ion-atom collision systems, in particular deviations from statistical populations of singlet and triplet levels, can be studied by optical spectroscopy. We have extended earlier studies by VUV spectroscopy of a number of collision systems at various collision energies in the 0.01-MeV/nucleon to 1-MeV/nucleon range, involving H2 +, H+, He+, He2+, Ne+, Ar+, and N2 + as projectiles and Ne, Ar, and N2 as target gases. Statistically significant deviations of the relative intensities of singlet and triplet lines from simple ratios are observed in the displaced terms of the valence shell of Ne III, corroborating and extending earlier work. For Ar III, the energy dependences of singlet-to-triplet excitation ratios are very different for different projectiles. For N II, in contrast, all observed line ratios are practically independent of the projectile energy. Received 17 November 2000 and Received in final form 31 January 2001  相似文献

The two systems 40Ca + 90,96Zr have been studied by measuring nucleon transfer reactions at two energies near the Coulomb barrier, thus complementing the available sub-barrier fusion cross-sections. Angular distributions for various transfer channels have been determined. Significantly larger neutron transfer cross-sections are found for the target 96Zr that exhibits the larger enhancement in the sub-barrier fusion cross-sections. All data have been analyzed with a new model for heavy-ion collisions that calculates simultaneously transfer cross-sections, fusion excitation functions and barrier distributions. The model gives a good account of both transfer and fusion data. The spin-exchange cross-section, , was measured for a 6.33 keV/amu He ion incident on a polarized Rb atom. The result is cm2, which is unexpectedly an order of magnitude smaller than the theoretical value cm2 evaluated by the semiclassical impact parameter method assuming formation of a single molecular state. Single-crystal like nuclear magnetic resonance spin-echo spectra are obtained for powder samples of the antiferromagnet CeCu5Au in the paramagnetic phase. Line shifts and quadrupolar splittings are analyzed for 63Cu and 65Cu. The influence of the extreme magnetic anisotropy of the CeCu6-xAux compounds on nuclear spin relaxation is discussed. The results of an experimental study of population dynamics following excitation of [0pt] and [0pt] states of rubidium are reported. Excitation transfer and quenching cross-sections in collisions with ground state rubidium atoms, and natural lifetimes have been measured. The experiment was performed in a vapour cell, using pulsed two-photon excitation and photon counting detection. The analysis of time dependent signals was based on a rate equation model in which transitions induced by thermal radiation have been accounted for. The measurements yielded following results: (1) [0pt] state J-mixing cross-section: [0pt] ; (2) cross-sections for [0pt] excitation transfer process: [0pt] ; (3) quenching cross-sections: [0pt] , [0pt] , [0pt] ; [0pt](4) radiative lifetimes: [0pt] ns, [0pt] ns, [0pt] ns. A new type of collision experiments is discussed, where observations of two successive collisions of the same pair of particles would be possible. When such technology is available, a surprising restoring of entanglement, normally considered broken in usual collision experiments, could be observed. As an illustration the collision partners He+ and He++ in a collision regime where the resonant charge transfer is dominating are considered. In the analysis it is shown that in such experiments, two spatially widely separated ion paths, corresponding in fact to two different charge states, would contribute coherently to the final amplitudes, describing which of the ions emerges as singly charged, i.e. which carries the single electron involved. The double collision experiments are not trivial, since their overall cross-sections are extremely small. Development of relevant experimental techniques will decide if the proposed phenomena remain in the field of gedanken experiments or enter the world of real experimental physics. The growth of small tellurium clusters in helium and the influence of a metal impurity (dysprosium atoms) on the cluster size distribution are investigated in a double laser vaporization source. A model describing the role of the carrier gas as collision partner is presented, emphasizing the crucial influence of the gas pressure on cluster formation. Changes in cluster reactivity due to dysprosium addition are discussed in terms of ionic structures Dy 3 +(Te N)3 - containing a radical electron. Received 28 November 2000  相似文献

The ionic charge state distribution is an important diagnostics parameter for laser in-ertia confinement fusion (LICF). It is usually obtained by solving Saha equation or using some other models, such as local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE), corona equilibrium (CE), collision-radiation (CR) and average atom (AA); however, these methods are rather limited for high-Z element plasma. The theory of entropy fluctuation is also a pos-sible method[1]. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (…

+ and O+ ions was exposed to positron beams to measure the positron annihilation Doppler broadening as a function of the positron energy. As in the previous case of O+-irradiated semicrystalline PEEK, the annihilation lines recorded at relatively low positron energies became broader with increasing irradiation dose. The thickness of the damaged layer estimated from the positron data was compared with the mean depth of the implanted ions calculated by the TRIM code. For the Au+-irradiated samples, some discrepancy was observed between the two quantities. Received: 6 March 1996/Accepted: 19 November 1996  相似文献

Elastic scattering cross-sections for Pd, Ag, Cd, In, Sn, Sb, Pt, Au and Pb are measured at an angle of 90 in the X-ray region 5.41 keV. These energies fall between the high-energy side of the L- and M-shell absorption edges of the atoms considered. The present atomic region is significant for solid X-rays to assess the contribution of resonance and solid-state environmental effects. Also it is the anomalous scattering region for many of the atoms of the periodic table. Experimental results are compared with theoretical calculations based on form factor formalisms including the anomalous corrections and available recent S-matrix values. Based on the experimental evidence, the present results indicate the influence of solid-state environmental effects, the importance of anomalous corrections nearer to absorption edges, the correctness of revised high-energy limit values, the superiority of S-matrix predictions over form factor values on measured elastic scattering cross-sections in the X-ray regime and also show the resonance behavior around K, L and M absorption edges. In this paper, ion-atom and ion-ion collisions in the presence of intense laser fields are qualitatively studied by Classical Trajectory Monte Carlo (CTMC) simulations. It is found that in contrast to the field-free collisions, the colliding ion and the target nucleus could absorb energy from the applied laser fields when the electrons escape from the collision system. This result is explained in terms of Coulomb explosion induced by the enhanced ionization at the so-called critical internuclear distance. Also, the corresponding energy gain cross-sections are evaluated. Received: 7 October 1998 / Received in final form: 28 January 1999  相似文献

Production cross-sections of charged pions, kaons and antikaons have been measured in C+C and C+Au collisions at beam energies of 1.0 and 1.8 AGeV for different polar emission angles. The kaon and antikaon energy spectra can be described by Boltzmann distributions whereas the pion spectra exhibit an additional enhancement at low energies. The pion multiplicity per participating nucleon M+)/<A part> is a factor of about 3 smaller in C+Au than in C+C collisions at 1.0 AGeV whereas it differs only little for the C and the Au target at a beam energy of 1.8 AGeV. The K+ multiplicities per participating nucleon M(K+)/ <A part> are independent of the target size at 1 AGeV and at 1.8 AGeV. The K- multiplicity per participating nucleon M(K-)/ <A part> is reduced by a factor of about 2 in C+Au as compared to C+C collisions at 1.8 AGeV. This effect might be caused by the absorption of antikaons in the heavy target nucleus. Transport model calculations underestimate the K-/K+ ratio for C+C collisions at 1.8 AGeV by a factor of about 4 if in-medium modifications of K-mesons are neglected.
