The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to give C1 (formate and CO) products is one of the most techno-economically achievable strategies for alleviating CO2 emissions. Now, it is demonstrated that the SnOx shell in Sn2.7Cu catalyst with a hierarchical Sn-Cu core can be reconstructed in situ under cathodic potentials of CO2RR. The resulting Sn2.7Cu catalyst achieves a high current density of 406.7±14.4 mA cm−2 with C1 Faradaic efficiency of 98.0±0.9 % at −0.70 V vs. RHE, and remains stable at 243.1±19.2 mA cm−2 with a C1 Faradaic efficiency of 99.0±0.5 % for 40 h at −0.55 V vs. RHE. DFT calculations indicate that the reconstructed Sn/SnOx interface facilitates formic acid production by optimizing binding of the reaction intermediate HCOO* while promotes Faradaic efficiency of C1 products by suppressing the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction, resulting in high Faradaic efficiency, current density, and stability of CO2RR at low overpotentials.  相似文献

Silver (Ag)-based materials are considered to be promising materials for electrochemical reduction of CO2 to produce CO, but the selectivity and efficiency of traditional polycrystalline Ag materials are insufficient; there still exists a great challenge to explore novel modified Ag based materials. Herein, a nanocomposite of Ag and SnO2 (Ag/SnO2) for efficient reduction of CO2 to CO is reported. HRTEM and XRD patterns clearly demonstrated the lattice destruction of Ag and the amorphous SnO2 in the Ag/SnO2 nanocomposite. Electrochemical tests indicated the nanocomposite containing 15% SnO2 possesses highest catalytic selectivity featured by a CO faradaic efficiency (FE) of 99.2% at −0.9 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (vs RHE) and FE>90% for the CO product at a wide potential range from −0.8 V to −1.4 V vs RHE. Experimental characterization and analysis showed that the high catalytic performance is attributed to not only the branched morphology of Ag/SnO2 nanocomposites (NCs), which endows the maximum exposure of active sites, but also the special adsorption capacity of abundant defect sites in the crystal for *COOH (the key intermediate of CO formation), which improves the intrinsic activity of the catalyst. But equally important, the existed SnO2 also plays an important role in inhibiting hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and anchoring defect sites. This work demonstrates the use of crystal defect engineering and synergy in composite to improve the efficiency of electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR).  相似文献

Precise design and tuning of the micro-atomic structure of single atom catalysts (SACs) can help efficiently adapt complex catalytic systems. Herein, we inventively found that when the active center of the main group element gallium (Ga) is downsized to the atomic level, whose characteristic has significant differences from conventional bulk and rigid Ga catalysts. The Ga SACs with a P, S atomic coordination environment display specific flow properties, showing CO products with FE of ≈92 % at −0.3 V vs. RHE in electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2RR). Theoretical simulations demonstrate that the adaptive dynamic transition of Ga optimizes the adsorption energy of the *COOH intermediate and renews the active sites in time, leading to excellent CO2RR selectivity and stability. This liquid single atom catalysts system with dynamic interfaces lays the foundation for future exploration of synthesis and catalysis.  相似文献

We report a straightforward strategy to design efficient N doped porous carbon (NPC) electrocatalyst that has a high concentration of easily accessible active sites for the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The NPC with large amounts of active N (pyridinic and graphitic N) and highly porous structure is prepared by using an oxygen-rich metal–organic framework (Zn-MOF-74) precursor. The amount of active N species can be tuned by optimizing the calcination temperature and time. Owing to the large pore sizes, the active sites are well exposed to electrolyte for CO2RR. The NPC exhibits superior CO2RR activity with a small onset potential of −0.35 V and a high faradaic efficiency (FE) of 98.4 % towards CO at −0.55 V vs. RHE, one of the highest values among NPC-based CO2RR electrocatalysts. This work advances an effective and facile way towards highly active and cost-effective alternatives to noble-metal CO2RR electrocatalysts for practical applications.  相似文献

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to give C1 (formate and CO) products is one of the most techno‐economically achievable strategies for alleviating CO2 emissions. Now, it is demonstrated that the SnOx shell in Sn2.7Cu catalyst with a hierarchical Sn‐Cu core can be reconstructed in situ under cathodic potentials of CO2RR. The resulting Sn2.7Cu catalyst achieves a high current density of 406.7±14.4 mA cm?2 with C1 Faradaic efficiency of 98.0±0.9 % at ?0.70 V vs. RHE, and remains stable at 243.1±19.2 mA cm?2 with a C1 Faradaic efficiency of 99.0±0.5 % for 40 h at ?0.55 V vs. 相似文献

Operando nuclear resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (NRIXS) and X-ray absorption fine-structure spectroscopy (XAFS) measurements were used to gain insight into the structure and surface composition of FeCu and FeAg nanoparticles (NPs) during the electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2RR) and to extract correlations with their catalytic activity and selectivity. The formation of a core–shell structure during CO2RR for FeAg NPs was inferred from the analysis of the operando NRIXS data (phonon density of states, PDOS) and XAFS measurements. Electrochemical analysis of the FeAg NPs revealed a faradaic selectivity of 36 % for CO in 0.1 M KHCO3 at −1.1 V vs. RHE, similar to that of pure Ag NPs. In contrast, a predominant selectivity towards H2 evolution is obtained in the case of the FeCu NPs, analogous to the results obtained for pure Fe NPs, although small Cu NPs have also been shown to favor H2 production.  相似文献

Electrochemical reduction of CO2 (CO2RR) to value-added chemicals is an attractive strategy for greenhouse gas mitigation and carbon recycle. Carbon material is one of most promising electrocatalysts but its product selectivity is limited by few modulating approaches for active sites. Herein, the predominant pyridinic N-B sites (accounting for 80% to all N species) are fabricated in hierarchically porous structure of graphene nanoribbons/amorphous carbon. The graphene nanoribbons and porous structure can accelerate electron and ion/gas transport during CO2RR, respectively. This carbon electrocatalyst exhibits excellent selectivity toward CO2 reduction to CH4 with the faradaic efficiency of 68% at −0.50 V vs. RHE. As demonstrated by density functional theory, a proper adsorbed energy of *CO and *CH2O are generated on the pyridinic N-B site resulting into high CH4 selectivity. Therefore, this study provides a novel method to modulate active sites of carbon-based electrocatalyst to obtain high CH4 selectivity.  相似文献

We report a precious-metal-free molecular catalyst-based photocathode that is active for aqueous CO2 reduction to CO and methanol. The photoelectrode is composed of cobalt phthalocyanine molecules anchored on graphene oxide which is integrated via a (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane linker to p-type silicon protected by a thin film of titanium dioxide. The photocathode reduces CO2 to CO with high selectivity at potentials as mild as 0 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (vs RHE). Methanol production is observed at an onset potential of −0.36 V vs RHE, and reaches a peak turnover frequency of 0.18 s−1. To date, this is the only molecular catalyst-based photoelectrode that is active for the six-electron reduction of CO2 to methanol. This work puts forth a strategy for interfacing molecular catalysts to p-type semiconductors and demonstrates state-of-the-art performance for photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction to CO and methanol.  相似文献

Carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion is promising in alleviating the excessive CO2 level and simultaneously producing valuables. This work reports the preparation of carbon nanorods encapsulated bismuth oxides for the efficient CO2 electroconversion toward formate production. This resultant catalyst exhibits a small onset potential of −0.28 V vs. RHE and partial current density of over 200 mA cm−2 with a stable and high Faradaic efficiency of 93 % for formate generation in a flow cell configuration. Electrochemical results demonstrate the synergistic effect in the Bi2O3@C promotes the rapid and selective CO2 reduction in which the Bi2O3 is beneficial for improving the reaction kinetics and formate selectivity, while the carbon matrix would be helpful for enhancing the activity and current density of formate production. This work provides effective bismuth-based MOF derivatives for efficient formate production and offers insights in promoting practical CO2 conversion technology.  相似文献

It is still a great challenge to achieve high selectivity of CH4 in CO2 electroreduction reactions (CO2RR) because of the similar reduction potentials of possible products and the sluggish kinetics for CO2 activation. Stabilizing key reaction intermediates by single type of active sites supported on porous conductive material is crucial to achieve high selectivity for single product such as CH4. Here, Cu2O(111) quantum dots with an average size of 3.5 nm are in situ synthesized on a porous conductive copper-based metal–organic framework (CuHHTP), exhibiting high selectivity of 73 % towards CH4 with partial current density of 10.8 mA cm−2 at −1.4 V vs. RHE (reversible hydrogen electrode) in CO2RR. Operando infrared spectroscopy and DFT calculations reveal that the key intermediates (such as *CH2O and *OCH3) involved in the pathway of CH4 formation are stabilized by the single active Cu2O(111) and hydrogen bonding, thus generating CH4 instead of CO.  相似文献

Single-atom catalysts offer a promising pathway for electrochemical CO2 conversion. However, it is still a challenge to optimize the electrochemical performance of dual-atom catalysts. Here, an atomic indium-nickel dual-sites catalyst bridged by an axial oxygen atom (O-In-N6-Ni moiety) was anchored on nitrogenated carbon (InNi DS/NC). InNi DS/NC exhibits superior CO selectivity with Faradaic efficiency higher than 90 % over a wide potential range from −0.5 to −0.8 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (vs. RHE). Moreover, an industrial CO partial current density up to 317.2 mA cm−2 is achieved at −1.0 V vs. RHE in a flow cell. In situ ATR-SEIRAS combined with theory calculations reveal that the synergistic effect of In-Ni dual-sites and O atom bridge not only reduces the reaction barrier for the formation of *COOH, but also retards the undesired hydrogen evolution reaction. This work provides a feasible strategy to construct dual-site catalysts towards energy conversion.  相似文献

Global warming challenges are fueling the demand to develop an efficient catalytic system for the reduction of CO2, which would contribute significantly to the control of climate change. Herein, as-synthesized bismuthoxide-decorated graphene oxide (Bi2O3@GO) was used as an electro/thermal catalyst for CO2 reduction. Bi2O3@GO is found to be distributed uniformly, as confirmed by scanning electron and transmission electron microscopic analysis. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern shows that the Bi2O3 has a β-phase with 23.4 m2 g−1 BET surface area. Significantly, the D and G bands from Raman spectroscopic analysis and their intensity ratio (ID/IG) reveal the increment in defective sites on GO after surface decoration. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) analysis shows clear signals for Bi, C, and O, along with their oxidation states. An ultra-low onset potential (−0.534 V vs. RHE) for the reduction of CO2 on Bi2O3@GO is achieved. Furthermore, potential-dependent (−0.534, −0.734, and −0.934 vs. RHE) bulk electrolysis of CO2 to formate provides Faradaic efficiencies (FE) of approximately 39.72, 61.48, and 83.00 %, respectively. Additionally, in time-dependent electrolysis at a potential of −0.934 versus RHE for 3 and 5 h, the observed FEs are around 84.20 % and 87.17 % respectively. This catalyst is also used for the thermal reduction of CO2 to formate. It is shown that the thermal reduction provides a path for industrial applications, as this catalyst converts a large amount of CO2 to formate (10 mm ).  相似文献

Main-group element indium (In) is a promising electrocatalyst which triggers CO2 reduction to formate, while the high overpotential and low Faradaic efficiency (FE) hinder its practical application. Herein, we rationally design a new In single-atom catalyst containing exclusive isolated Inδ+–N4 atomic interface sites for CO2 electroreduction to formate with high efficiency. This catalyst exhibits an extremely large turnover frequency (TOF) up to 12500 h−1 at −0.95 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), with a FE for formate of 96 % and current density of 8.87 mA cm−2 at low potential of −0.65 V versus RHE. Our findings present a feasible strategy for the accurate regulation of main-group indium catalysts for CO2 reduction at atomic scale.  相似文献

Efficient CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is one of the important topics in energy and environment field, but improving the electrochemical selectivity of specific product is a great challenge. Herein, we reported a unprecedented two-dimensional (2D) metal?organic framework with CuO4 unit (denoted as Cu-HHTT, HHTT = 9,10-dihydro-9,10-[1,2]benzenoanthracene-2,3,6,7,14,15-hexaol) as the electrocatalyst for CO2RR. Cu-HHTT exhibits high performance for CO2RR to produce CO, namely Faradaic efficiency of 96.6% toward CO with a current density of 18 mA/cm2 at the potential of ?0.6 V vs. RHE. Density function theory reveals that the desorption of CO species exhibits a lower energy barrier than that of hydrogenation of *CO intermediate, resulting in CO as the main product instead of alcohols or hydrocarbons.  相似文献

Realizing industrial-scale production of HCOOH from the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is very important, but the current density as well as the electrochemical potential window are still limited to date. Herein, we achieved this by integration of chemical adsorption and electrocatalytic capabilities for the CO2RR via anchoring In nanoparticles (NPs) on biomass-derived substrates to create In/X−C (X=N, P, B) bifunctional active centers. The In NPs/chitosan-derived N-doped defective graphene (In/N-dG) catalyst had outstanding performance for the CO2RR with a nearly 100 % Faradaic efficiency (FE) of HCOOH across a wide potential window. Particularly, at 1.2 A ⋅ cm−2 high current density, the FE of HCOOH was as high as 96.0 %, and the reduction potential was as low as −1.17 V vs RHE. When using a membrane electrode assembly (MEA), a pure HCOOH solution could be obtained at the cathode without further separation and purification. The FE of HCOOH was still up to 93.3 % at 0.52 A ⋅ cm−2, and the HCOOH production rate could reach 9.051 mmol ⋅ h−1 ⋅ cm−2. Our results suggested that the defects and multilayer structure in In/N-dG could not only enhance CO2 chemical adsorption capability, but also trigger the formation of an electron-rich catalytic environment around In sites to promote the generation of HCOOH.  相似文献

Carbon dioxide electrochemical reduction (CO2RR) has been recognized as an efficient way to mitigate CO2 emissions and alleviate the pressure on global warming and associated environmental consequences. Gold (Au) is reported as stable and active electrocatalysts to convert CO2 to CO at low overpotential due to its moderate adsorption strength of *COOH and *CO. The request for improved catalytic performance, however, is motivated by current unsatisfied catalytic selectivity because of the side hydrogen evolution reaction. In this context, the design of Au based binary catalysts that can boost CO selectivity is of great interest. In the present work, we report that Au nanoparticles can be feasibly dispersed and anchored on silicon nanowires to form Au-Si binary nanomaterials. The Au-Si may stably drive CO2RR with a CO Faraday efficiency of 95.6% at ?0.6 V vs. RHE in 0.5 mol/L KHCO3 solution. Such selectivity outperforms Au particles by up to 61%. Controlled experiments illustrate that such catalytic enhancement can chiefly be ascribed to electronic effects of binary catalysts. Theoretical calculations reveal that spontaneously produced silicon oxide may not only inhibit hydrogen evolution reaction, but also stabilize the key intermediate *COOH in CO formation.  相似文献

Closing the anthropogenic carbon cycle by converting CO2 into reusable chemicals is an attractive solution to mitigate rising concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere. Herein, we prepared Ni metal catalysts ranging in size from single atoms to over 100 nm and distributed them across N-doped carbon substrates which were obtained from converted zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF). The results show variance in CO2 reduction performance with variance in Ni metal size. Ni single atoms demonstrate a superior Faradaic efficiency (FE) for CO selectivity (ca. 97 % at −0.8 V vs. RHE), while results for 4.1 nm Ni nanoparticles are slightly lower (ca. 93 %). Further increase the Ni particle size to 37.2 nm allows the H2 evolution reaction (HER) to compete with the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The FE towards CO production decreases to under 30 % and HER efficiency increase to over 70 %. These results show a size-dependent CO2 reduction for various sizes of Ni metal catalysts.  相似文献

The electrochemical reduction of CO2 presents a promising strategy to mitigate the greenhouse effect and reduce excess carbon dioxide emission to realize a carbon-neutral energy cycle, but it suffers from the lack of high-performance electrocatalysts. In this work, catalytic active cobalt porphyrin [TCPP(Co)=(5,10,15,20)-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin-CoII] was precisely anchored onto water-stable 2D metal–organic framework (MOF) nanosheets (Zr-BTB) to obtain ultrathin 2D MOF nanosheets [TCPP(Co)/Zr-BTB] with accessible catalytic sites for the CO2 reduction reaction. Compared with molecular cobalt porphyrin, the TCPP(Co)/Zr-BTB exhibits an ultrahigh turnover frequency (TOF=4768 h−1 at −0.919 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) owing to high active-site utilization. In addition, three post-modified 2D MOF nanosheets [TCPP(Co)/Zr-BTB-PABA, TCPP(Co)/Zr-BTB-PSBA, TCPP(Co)/Zr-BTB-PSABA] were obtained, with the modifiers of p-(aminomethyl)benzoic acid (PABA), p-sulfobenzoic acid potassium (PSBA), and p-sulfamidobenzoic acid (PSABA), to change the micro-environments around TCPP(Co) through the tuning of steric effects. Among them, the TCPP(Co)/Zr-BTB-PSABA exhibited the best performance with a faradaic efficiency (FECO) of 85.1 %, TOF of 5315 h−1, and jtotal of 6 mA cm−2 at −0.769 V (vs. RHE). In addition, the long-term durability of the electrocatalysts is evaluated and the role of pH buffer is revealed.  相似文献

Electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to chemical fuels such as formate offers a promising pathway to carbon-neutral future, but its practical application is largely inhibited by the lack of effective activation of CO2 molecules and pH-universal feasibility. Here, we report an electronic structure manipulation strategy to electron-rich Bi nanosheets, where electrons transfer from Cu donor to Bi acceptor in bimetallic Cu−Bi, enabling CO2RR towards formate with concurrent high activity, selectivity and stability in pH-universal (acidic, neutral and alkaline) electrolytes. Combined in situ Raman spectra and computational calculations unravel that electron-rich Bi promotes CO2 formation to activate CO2 molecules, and enhance the adsorption strength of *OCHO intermediate with an up-shifted p-band center, thus leading to its superior activity and selectivity of formate. Further integration of the robust electron-rich Bi nanosheets into III–V-based photovoltaic solar cell results in an unassisted artificial leaf with a high solar-to-formate (STF) efficiency of 13.7 %.  相似文献

Here we report a facile approach to synthesize a novel nanostructured thin film comprising Cu nanoparticles (NPs) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) via the direct electrochemical reduction of a mixture of cupper and graphene oxide (GO) precursors. The effect of the applied potential on the electrochemical reduction of CO2 was investigated using linear sweep voltammetric (LSV) and chronoamperometric (CA) techniques. Carbon monoxide and formate were found as the main products based on our GC and HPLC analysis. The electrochemical reduction of CO2 at the Cu/rGO thin film was further studied using in situ ATR-FTIR spectroscopy to identify the liquid product formed at different applied cathodic potentials. Our experimental measurements have shown that the nanostructured Cu/rGO thin film exhibits an excellent stability and superb catalytic activity for the electrochemical reduction of CO2 in an aqueous solution with a high current efficiency of 69.4% at − 0.6 V vs. RHE, promising for the efficient electrochemical conversion of CO2 to valuable products.  相似文献
