Ethylene/1‐pentene copolymers were prepared using a [(CO)5W= C(Me)OZr(Cp)2Cl] (1)/MAO catalyst system. 1‐Pentene incorporation in the copolymer was monitored using 13C‐NMR spectroscopic methods. The weight average molecular weights (Mw) of the copolymers were between 142,000 and 629,000 g/mol, with polydispersity indexes (PDIs) ranging from ≈ 2 to 90, as analyzed by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). Melting and crystallization temperatures, determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and crystallization analysis fractionation (CRYSTAF), decreased linearly as the amount of 1‐pentene in the copolymer increased. SEC‐FTIR revealed that the 1‐pentene is predominantly incorporated in the low molecular weight fraction. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5121–5133, 2004  相似文献

Model copolymers of poly(butadiene) (PB) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), PB‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PB, were synthesized by sequential anionic polymerization (high vacuum techniques) of 1,3‐butadiene and hexamethylciclotrisiloxane (D3) on sec‐BuLi followed by chlorosilane‐coupling chemistry. The synthesized copolymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). SEC and 1H NMR results showed low polydispersity indexes (Mw/Mn) and variable siloxane compositions, whereas DSC and TGA experiments indicated that the thermal stability of the triblock copolymers depends on the PDMS composition. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel, powerful analytical technique, preparative temperature rising elution fractionation (prep TREF)/high-temperature (HT)-HPLC/Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)/high-performance differential scanning calorimetry (HPer DSC)), has been introduced to study the correlation between the polymer chain microstructure and the thermal behaviour of various components in a complex impact polypropylene copolymer (IPC). For the comprehensive analysis of this complex material, in a first step, prep TREF is used to produce less complex but still heterogeneous fractions. These chemically heterogeneous fractions are completely separated by using a highly selective chromatographic separation method—high-temperature solvent gradient HPLC. The detailed structural and thermal analysis of the HPLC fractions was conducted by offline coupling of HT-HPLC with FTIR spectroscopy and a novel DSC method—HPer DSC. Three chemically different components were identified in the mid-elution temperature TREF fractions. For the first component, identified as isotactic polypropylene homopolymer by FTIR, the macromolecular chain length is found to be an important factor affecting the melting and crystallisation behaviour. The second component relates to ethylene–propylene copolymer molecules with varying ethylene monomer distributions and propylene tacticity distributions. For the polyethylene component (last eluting component in all semi-crystalline TREF fractions), it was found that branching produced defects in the long crystallisable ethylene sequences that affected the thermal properties. The different species exhibit distinctively different melting and crystallisation behaviour, as documented by HPer DSC. Using this novel approach of hyphenated techniques, the chain structure and melting and crystallisation behaviour of different components in a complex copolymer were investigated systematically.

A series of aliphatic–aromatic multiblock copolyesters consisting of poly(ethylene‐co‐1,6‐hexene terephthalate) (PEHT) and poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) were synthesized successfully by chain‐extension reaction of dihydroxyl terminated PEHT‐OH prepolymer and dihydroxyl terminated PLLA‐OH prepolymer using toluene‐2,4‐diisoyanate as a chain extender. PEHT‐OH prepolymers were prepared by two step reactions using dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol, and 1,6‐hexanediol as raw materials. PLLA‐OH prepolymers were prepared by direct polycondensation of L ‐lactic acid in the presence of 1,4‐butanediol. The chemical structures, the molecular weights and the thermal properties of PEHT‐OH, PLLA‐OH prepolymers, and PEHT‐PLLA copolymers were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, GPC, TG, and DSC. This synthetic method has been proved to be very efficient for the synthesis of high‐molecular‐weight copolyesters (say, higher than Mw = 3 × 105 g/mol). Only one glass transition temperature was found in the DSC curves of PEHT‐PLLA copolymers, indicating that the PLLA and PEHT segments had good miscibility. TG curves showed that all the copolyesters had good thermal stabilities. The resulting novel aromatic–aliphatic copolyesters are expected to find a potential application in the area of biodegradable polymer materials. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethyl‐(ECA) and butyl‐2‐cyanoacrylate (BCA) monomers of high purity and acidic stabilization were synthesized and anionically polymerized to homo‐ and copolymers in two different ways: by piperidine‐catalyzed bulk polymerization leading to transparent, brittle films (method A) and by polymerization in aqueous medium in the presence of sodium bicarbonate to obtain white powders (Method B). The molecular structure of the synthesized monomers, homopolymers and copolymers were corroborated by spectral methods. The polymers were studied further by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). Controlling the composition of the monomer feed and the way the polymerization was performed, it was possible to obtain phase separated or homogeneous cyanoacrylate copolymers with glass transitions varying between the Tg of polyECA and that of polyBCA. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymeric scaffolds play a crucial role in engineering process of new tissues and effect the cell growth and viability. PLCL copolymers are found to be very useful during cell growth due to their elastic behavior and mechanical strength. Thus, low molecular weight PLCL copolymers of various ratios viz. PLCL(90/10), PLCL(75/25), PLCL(50/50) and PCL were synthesized by ring opening polymerization using stannous octoate as a catalyst. Synthesized polymers were characterized by GPC, 1H‐NMR, FTIR and XRD. The thermal properties of the copolymers were studied using TGA and DSC. Microspheres of about 100 μm diameter were prepared for different copolymers and their in vitro degradation behaviors were studied up to 108 days. It was observed that degradation of PLA content in polymer backbone occurs faster than PCL component which is also indicated by corresponding change in ratios of PLA/PCL, as determined by 1H‐NMR. SEM images of microspheres depicted the surface morphology during degradation and suggested the faster degradation for PLCL (50:50). Copolymers of different thermal, mechanical properties and different degradation behaviors can be prepared by adjusting the composition of copolymers. Various synthesized polymers from this work have been tested in our laboratory as polymeric scaffold for soft tissue engineering. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Propene (P)/4‐methyl‐1‐pentene (Y) copolymers in a wide range of composition were prepared with isospecific single center catalysts, rac‐Et(IndH4)2ZrCl2 ( EBTHI ), rac‐Me2Si(2‐Me‐BenzInd)2ZrCl2 ( MBI ), and rac‐CH2(3‐tBuInd)2ZrCl2 ( TBI ). 13C NMR analysis of copolymers and statistical elaboration of microstructural data at triad level were performed. Unprecedented and surprising results are here reported. Random P/Y copolymers were prepared with the most isospecific catalyst, TBI , that is known to prepare ethene/propene and ethene/4‐methyl‐1‐pentene copolymers with long homosequences of both comonomers, whereas longer homosequences of both comonomers were observed in copolymers from the less enantioselective metallocenes EBTHI and MBI . These findings, which are against what is acknowledged in the field, can pave the way for the preparation on a large scale of random propene‐based copolymers. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The synthesis of statistical copolymers consisting of 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline (EtOx) and 2‐“soy alkyl”‐2‐oxazoline (SoyOx) via a microwave‐assisted cationic ring‐opening polymerization procedure is described. The majority of the resulting copolymers revealed polydispersity indices below 1.30. The reactivity ratios (rEtOx 1.4 ± 0.3; rSoyOx = 1.7 ± 0.3) revealed a clustered monomer distribution throughout the polymer chains. The thermal and surface properties of the pEtOx‐stat‐SoyOx copolymers were analyzed before and after UV‐curing demonstrating the decreased chain mobility after cross‐linking. In addition, the cross‐linked materials showed shape‐persistent swelling upon absorption of water from the air, whereby as little as 5 mol % SoyOx was found to provide efficient cross‐linking. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(D ,L ‐lactide) and poly(D ,L ‐lactide‐co‐glycolide) with various composition and with one methacrylate and one carboxylate end group were synthesized and grafted onto poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) via the carboxylate group. The graft copolymers were crosslinked via the methacrylate groups using a free radical initiator. The polymer networks were characterized by means of NMR and studied qualitatively by means of IR spectroscopy. The influence of the glycolide content in the polyester grafts and of the number of ester units in the grafts on thermal properties and swellability were studied as well. The high swellability in water is characteristic of all hydrogels. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed a single glass transition temperature that occurs in the range between 51 and 69 °C. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of the networks showed the main loss in weight in the temperature range between 290 and 370 °C. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined hetero eight‐shaped copolymers composed of polystyrene (PS) and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution were successfully synthesized by the combination of ring‐opening polymerization, ATRP, and “click” reaction. The synthetic procedure involves three steps: (1) preparation of a tetrafunctional PS and PCL star copolymer with two PS and two PCL arms using the tetrafunctional initiator bearing two hydroxyl groups and two bromo groups; (2) synthesis of tetrafunctional star copolymer, (α‐acetylene‐PCL)2(ω‐azido‐PS)2, by the transition of terminal hydroxyl and bromo groups to acetylene and azido groups through the reaction with 4‐propargyloxybutanedioyl chloride and NaN3 respectively; (3) intramolecular cyclization reaction to produce the hetero eight‐shaped copolymers using “click” chemistry under high dilution. The 1H NMR, FTIR, and gel permeation chromatography techniques were applied to characterize the chemical structures of the resulted intermediates and the target polymers. Their thermal behavior was investigated by DSC, and their crystallization behaviors of PCL were studied by polarized optical microscopy. The decrease in chain mobility of the eight‐shaped copolymers restricts the crystallization of PCL and the crystallization rate of PCL is slower in comparison with their corresponding star precursors. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel vinyl‐hydantoin monomer, 3‐(4′‐vinylbenzyl)‐5,5‐dimethylhydantoin, was synthesized in a good yield and was fully characterized with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and 1H NMR spectra. Its homopolymer and copolymers with several common acrylic and vinyl monomers, such as vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile, and methyl methacrylate, were readily prepared under mild conditions. The polymers were characterized with FTIR and 1H NMR, and their thermal properties were analyzed with differential scanning calorimetry studies. The halogenated products of the corresponding copolymers exhibited potent antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli, and the antibacterial properties were durable and regenerable. The structure–property relationships of the polymers were further discussed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 3348–3355, 2001  相似文献

The photocuring process of the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) with the bislactone 1,6‐dioxaspiro[4,4]nonane‐2,7‐dione (s(γ‐BL)) was studied. Triarylsulfonium hexafluoroantimonate was employed as photoinitiator. FTIR/ATR was used to study the evolution of epoxy, lactone, and intermediate spiroorthoester groups to identify the different reactions that take place during the photocuring process. Photo‐DSC and DSC were used to study the thermal evolution of the photocuring process and to assess the Tg of the fully cured material. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to determine the thermal stability of the fully cured material. The thermomechanical properties of the materials were investigated using dynamic mechanical‐thermal analysis. Shrinkage undergone during photocuring and gelation was studied with TMA. A strong influence of the photocuring temperature on the photocuring process of the DGEBA‐ s(γ‐BL) system was observed. Differences in the reactivity of the different species were observed with respect to the thermally cured system using ytterbium triflate as cationic thermal initiator. As a consequence, photocured materials exhibited a superior thermal stability and lower flexibility. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 5446–5458, 2007  相似文献

A series of fluorene‐based copolymers containing hole blocking/electron transporting diphenyloxadiazole units were synthesized by means of Suzuki‐Miyaura coupling of selected aromatic dibromo‐ and diboronato‐ derivatives catalyzed with a Pd(PPh3)4 catalyst. All of the copolymers with various composition of main‐chain units were characterized by SEC chromatography, NMR, UV–vis, fluorescence and IR spectroscopy, and DSC. The emission stability of fluorene copolymers was improved by the replacement of alkyl groups on the C‐9 carbon of fluorene with aryl groups or by the incorporation of anthracene units into the copolymer main chain. A comparison of luminescence properties of pristine and annealed thin layers of studied copolymers was performed. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have designed and synthesized rod–coil–rod triblock copolymers of controlled molecular weight by two‐step nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization, where the rod part consists of “mesogen‐jacketed liquid crystalline polymer” (MJLCP). The MJLCP segment examined in our studies is poly{2,5‐bis[(4‐methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrene} (MPCS) while the coil part is polyisoprene (PI). Characterization of the triblock copolymers by GPC, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopies, TGA, DSC confirmed that the triblock copolymers were comprised of microphase‐separated low Tg amorphous PI and high Tg PMPCS blocks. Analysis of POM and 1D, 2D‐WAXD demonstrated that the triblock copolymers formed nematic liquid crystal phase. Morphological studies using TEM indicated the sample formed lamellar structure. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 5949–5956, 2007  相似文献

A series of well‐defined θ‐shaped copolymers composed of polystyrene (PS) and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution have been successfully synthesized without any purification procedure by the combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), ring‐opening polymerization (ROP), and the “click” chemistry. The synthetic process involves two steps: (1) synthesis of AB2 miktoarm star copolymers, which contain one PCL chain terminated with two acetylene groups and two PS chains with two azido groups at their one end, (α,α′‐diacetylene‐PCL) (ω‐azido‐PS)2, by ROP, ATRP, and the terminal group transformation; (2) intramolecular cyclization of AB2 miktoarm star copolymers to produce well‐defined pure θ‐shaped copolymers using “click” chemistry under high dilution. The 1H NMR, FTIR, and gel permeation chromatography techniques were applied to characterize the chemical structures of the resultant intermediates and the target polymers. Their thermal behavior was investigated by DSC. The mobility decrease of PCL chain across PS ring in the theta‐shaped copolymers restricts the crystallization ability of PCL segment. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A dendritic macroinitiator having 16 TEMPO‐based alkoxyamines, Star‐16 , was prepared by the reaction of a dendritic macroinitiator having eight TEMPO‐based alkoxyamines, [G‐3]‐OH , with 4,4′‐bis(chlorocarbonyl)biphenyl. The nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMRP) of styrene (St) from Star‐16 gave 16‐arm star polymers with PDI of 1.19–1.47, and NMPR of 4‐vinylpyridine from the 16‐arm star polymer gave 16‐arm star diblock copolymers with PDI of 1.30–1.43. The ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone from [G‐3]‐OH and the subsequent NMRP of St gave AB8 9‐miktoarm star copolymers with PDI of 1.30–1.38. The benzyl ether linkages of the 16‐arm star polymers and the AB8 9‐miktoarm star copolymers were cleaved by treating with Me3SiI, and the resultant poly(St) arms were investigated by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). The SEC results showed PDIs of 1.23–1.28 and 1.18–1.22 for the star polymers and miktoarm stars copolymers, respectively, showing that they have well‐controlled poly(St) arms. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The miscibility and thermal properties of poly(N‐phenyl‐2‐hydroxytrimethylene amine)/poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PHA/PVP) blends were examined by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), high‐resolution solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that PHA is miscible with PVP, as shown by the existence of a single composition‐dependent glass transition temperature (Tg) in the whole composition range. The DSC results, together with the 13C crosspolarization (CP)/magic angle spinning (MAS)/high‐power dipolar decoupling (DD) spectra of the blends, revealed that there exist rather strong intermolecular interactions between PHA and PVP. The increase in hydrogen bonding and in Tg of the blends was found to broaden the line width of CH—OH carbon resonance of PHA. The measurement of the relaxation time showed that the PHA/PVP blends are homogeneous at least on the scale of 1–2 nm. The proton spin‐lattice relaxation in both the laboratory frame and the rotating frame were studied as a function of the blend composition, and it was found that blending did not appreciably affect the spectral densities of motion (sub‐Tg relaxation) in the mid‐MHz and mid‐KHz frequency ranges. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that PHA has rather good thermal stability, and the thermal stability of the blend can be further improved with increasing PVP content. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The free‐radical copolymerization of N‐phenylmaleimide (N‐PhMI) with acrylic acid was studied in the range of 25–75 mol % in the feed. The interactions of these copolymers with Cu(II) and Co(II) ions were investigated as a function of the pH and copolymer composition by the use of the ultrafiltration technique. The maximum retention capacity of the copolymers for Co(II) and Cu(II) ions varied from 200 to 250 mg/g and from 210 to 300 mg/g, respectively. The copolymers and polymer–metal complexes of divalent transition‐metal ions were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The thermal behavior was investigated with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG). The TG and DSC measurements showed an increase in the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) and the thermal stability with an increase in the N‐PhMI concentration in the copolymers. Tg of poly(N‐PhMI‐co‐AA) with copolymer composition 46.5:53.5 mol % was found at 251 °C, and it decreased when the complexes of Co(II) and Cu(II) at pHs 3–7 were formed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of three dihydric phenols on the thermal properties of poly‐(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) were investigated by DSC. The thermal properties of PCL were found to be greatly modified by the addition of 4,4′‐dihydroxydiphenyl ether (DHDPE). When the content of DHDPE reached 40%, PCL that was a semicrystalline polymer in the pure state changed to a fully amorphous elastomer. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was also applied to investigate the specific interaction between PCL and DHDPE. The formations of intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the carbonyl groups of PCL and the hydroxyl groups of DHDPE were discovered. By applying the Beer–Lambert law and a curve‐fitting program, the fractions of hydrogen‐bonded carbonyl groups were quantitatively analyzed. Although one DHDPE molecule had the potentiality to form two hydrogen bonds with PCL chains, the values of the fraction of the hydroxyl group involved in the intermolecular hydrogen bond were so little that from a statistical point of view, the formation of two hydrogen bonds was very difficult for every DHDPE molecule. Both DSC and FTIR revealed that 4,4′‐dihydroxydiphenyl methane and 4,4′‐dihydroxyphenyl had the ability to form hydrogen bonds with PCL, which were strongly affected by the polarity of the group linking two hydroxyphenyls and the flexibility of the molecular chain. The stronger the polarity of the group and the better the flexibility of molecular chain, the more tendencies dihydric phenol had to form intermolecular hydrogen bonds with PCL. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Model diblock copolymers of poly(1,4‐butadiene) (PB) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), PB‐b‐PDMS, were synthesized by the sequential anionic polymerization (high vacuum techniques) of butadiene and hexamethylciclotrisiloxane (D3) in the presence of sec‐BuLi. By homogeneous hydrogenation of PB‐b‐PDMS, the corresponding poly(ethylene) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) block copolymers, PE‐b‐PDMS, were obtained. The synthesized block copolymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (1H and 13C NMR), size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and rheology. SEC combined with 1H NMR analysis indicates that the polydispersity index of the samples (Mw/Mn) is low, and that the chemical composition of the copolymers varies from low to medium PDMS content. According to DSC and TGA experiments, the thermal stability of these block copolymers depends on the PDMS content, whereas TEM analysis reveals ordered arrangements of the microphases. The morphologies observed vary from spherical and cylindrical to lamellar domains. This ordered state (even at high temperatures) was further confirmed by small‐amplitude oscillatory shear flow tests. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
