This article is concerned with a high‐order difference scheme presented by Jain, Jain, and Mohanty for the nonlinear parabolic equation uxx = F(x, t, u, ut, ux) with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The solvability of the difference scheme is proved by Brower's fixed point theorem and the uniqueness of the difference solution is obtained by showing that the coefficient matrix is strictly column‐wise diagonal dominant. The boundedness and convergence of the difference scheme are obtained. The convergence order is 4 in space and 2 in time in L‐norm. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the validity of the theoretical results. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq , 2006  相似文献

A classification of the solutions of the functional differential equation x′(t) = x(x(t)) is given and it is proved that every solution either vanishes identically or is strictly monotonie. For monotonically increasing solutions existence and uniqueness of the solution x are proved with the condition x(t0) = x0 where (t0, x0) is any given pair of reals in some specified subset of R2. Every monotonically increasing solution is thus obtained. It is analytic and depends analytically on t0 and x0. Only for t0 = x0 = 1 is the question of analyticity still open.  相似文献

We study second‐order finite‐volume schemes for the non‐linear hyperbolic equation ut(x, t) + div F(x, t, u(x, t)) = 0 with initial condition u0. The main result is the error estimate between the approximate solution given by the scheme and the entropy solution. It is based on some stability properties verified by the scheme and on a discrete entropy inequality. If u0LBVloc(ℝN), we get an error estimate of order h1/4, where h defines the size of the mesh. We study the continuous as well as the discontinuous solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equationu t +H(u,Du) =g in ℝ n x ℝ+ withu(x, 0) =u 0(x). The HamiltonianH(s,p) is assumed to be convex and positively homogeneous of degree one inp for eachs in ℝ. IfH is non increasing ins, in general, this problem need not admit a continuous viscosity solution. Even in this case we obtain a formula for discontinuous viscosity solutions.  相似文献

In this article, an iterative method for the approximate solution to one‐dimensional variable‐coefficient Burgers' equation is proposed in the reproducing kernel space W(3,2). It is proved that the approximation wn(x,t) converges to the exact solution u(x,t) for any initial function w0(x,t) ε W(3,2), and the approximate solution is the best approximation under a complete normal orthogonal system . Moreover the derivatives of wn(x,t) are also uniformly convergent to the derivatives of u(x,t).© 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2009  相似文献

In this paper we consider the Cauchy problem for the equation ∂u/∂t + uu/∂x + u/x = 0 for x > 0, t ⩾ 0, with u(x, 0) = u0(x) for x < x0, u(x, 0) = u0+(x) for x > x0, u0(x0) > u0+(x0). Following the ideas of Majda, 1984 and Lax, 1973, we construct, for smooth u0 and u0+, a global shock front weak solution u(x, t) = u(x, t) for x < ϕ(t), u(x, t) = u+(x, t) for x > ϕ(t), where u and u+ are the strong solutions corresponding (respectively) to u0 and u0+ and the curve t → ϕ(t) is defined by dϕ/dt (t) = 1/2[u(ϕ(t), t) + u+(ϕ(t), t)], t ⩾ 0 and ϕ(0) = x0. © 1998 B. We study the initial-boundary value problem for ?t2u(t,x)+A(t)u(t,x)+B(t)?tu(t,x)=f(t,x) on [0,T]×Ω(Ω??n) with a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition; here A(t) denotes a family of uniformly strongly elliptic operators of order 2m, B(t) denotes a family of spatial differential operators of order less than or equal to m, and u is a scalar function. We prove the existence of a unique strong solution u. Furthermore, an energy estimate for u is given.  相似文献

In this piece of work, we introduce a new idea and obtain stability interval for explicit difference schemes of O(k2+h2) for one, two and three space dimensional second-order hyperbolic equations utt=a(x,t)uxx+α(x,t)ux-2η2(x,t)u,utt=a(x,y,t)uxx+b(x,y,t)uyy+α(x,y,t)ux+β(x,y,t)uy-2η2(x,y,t)u, and utt=a(x,y,z,t)uxx+b(x,y,z,t)uyy+c(x,y,z,t)uzz+α(x,y,z,t)ux+β(x,y,z,t)uy+γ(x,y,z,t)uz-2η2(x,y,z,t)u,0<x,y,z<1,t>0 subject to appropriate initial and Dirichlet boundary conditions, where h>0 and k>0 are grid sizes in space and time coordinates, respectively. A new idea is also introduced to obtain explicit difference schemes of O(k2) in order to obtain numerical solution of u at first time step in a different manner.  相似文献

The non-characteristic Cauchy problem for the heat equation uxx(x,t) = u1(x,t), 0 ? x ? 1, ? ∞ < t < ∞, u(0,t) = φ(t), ux(0, t) = ψ(t), ? ∞ < t < ∞ is regularizèd when approximate expressions for φ and ψ are given. Properties of the exact solution are used to obtain an explicit stability estimate.  相似文献

This article presents a semigroup approach for the mathematical analysis of the inverse coefficient problems of identifying the unknown coefficient k(u(x,t)) in the quasi‐linear parabolic equation ut(x,t)=(k(u(x,t))ux(x,t))x, with Dirichlet boundary conditions u(0,t)=ψ0, u(1,t)=ψ1. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the distinguishability of the input–output mappings Φ[?]:?? →C1[0,T], Ψ[?]:??→C1[0,T] via semigroup theory. In this paper, it is shown that if the null space of the semigroup T(t) consists of only zero function, then the input–output mappings Φ[?] and Ψ[?] have the distinguishability property. It is also shown that the types of the boundary conditions and the region on which the problem is defined play an important role in the distinguishability property of these mappings. Moreover, under the light of measured output data (boundary observations) f(t):=k(u(0,t))ux(0,t) or/and h(t):=k(u(1,t))ux(1,t), the values k0) and k1) of the unknown diffusion coefficient k(u(x,t)) at (x,t)=(0,0) and (x,t)=(1,0), respectively, can be determined explicitly. In addition to these, the values ku0) and ku1) of the unknown coefficient k(u(x,t)) at (x,t)=(0,0) and (x,t)=(1,0), respectively, are also determined via the input data. Furthermore, it is shown that measured output data f(t) and h(t) can be determined analytically by an integral representation. Hence the input–output mappings Φ[?]:??→ C1[0,T], Ψ[?]:??→C1[0,T] are given explicitly in terms of the semigroup. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The authors study the p(x)-Laplacian equations with nonlinear boundary condition. By using the variational method, under appropriate assumptions on the perturbation terms f1 (x, u), f2(x, u) and h1(x), h2(x), such that the associated functional satisfies the "mountain pass lemma" and "fountain theorem" respectively, the existence and multiplicity of solutions are obtained. The discussion is based on the theory of variable exponent Lebesgue and Sobolev spaces.  相似文献

This article develops a new two‐level three‐point implicit finite difference scheme of order 2 in time and 4 in space based on arithmetic average discretization for the solution of nonlinear parabolic equation ε uxx = f(x, t, u, ux, ut), 0 < x < 1, t > 0 subject to appropriate initial and Dirichlet boundary conditions, where ε > 0 is a small positive constant. We also propose a new explicit difference scheme of order 2 in time and 4 in space for the estimates of (?u/?x). The main objective is the proposed formulas are directly applicable to both singular and nonsingular problems. We do not require any fictitious points outside the solution region and any special technique to handle the singular problems. Stability analysis of a model problem is discussed. Numerical results are provided to validate the usefulness of the proposed formulas. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2007  相似文献

The problem of determining the pair w:={F(x,t);T0(t)} of source terms in the parabolic equation ut=(k(x)ux)x+F(x,t) and Robin boundary condition −k(l)ux(l,t)=v[u(l,t)−T0(t)] from the measured final data μT(x)=u(x,T) is formulated. It is proved that both components of the Fréchet gradient of the cost functional can be found via the same solution of the adjoint parabolic problem. Lipschitz continuity of the gradient is derived. The obtained results permit one to prove existence of a quasi-solution of the considered inverse problem, as well as to construct a monotone iteration scheme based on a gradient method.  相似文献

This paper studies the existence and the non‐existence of global solutions to the initial boundary value problems for the non‐linear wave equation utt + uxxxx = σ(ux)x + f(x, t) and the Boussinesq‐type equation utt + uxxxx = σ(u)xx + f(x, t). The paper proves that every above‐mentioned problem has a unique global solution under rather mild confining conditions, and arrives at some sufficient conditions of blow‐up of the solutions in finite time. Finally, a few examples are given. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the construction of accurate continuous numerical solutions for partial self-adjoint differential systems of the type (P(t) ut)t = Q(t)uxx, u(0, t) = u(d, t) = 0, u(x, 0) = f(x), ut(x, 0) = g(x), 0 ≤ xd, t >- 0, where P(t), Q(t) are positive definite oRr×r-valued functions such that P′(t) and Q′(t) are simultaneously semidefinite (positive or negative) for all t ≥ 0. First, an exact theoretical series solution of the problem is obtained using a separation of variables technique. After appropriate truncation strategy and the numerical solution of certain matrix differential initial value problems the following question is addressed. Given T > 0 and an admissible error ϵ > 0 how to construct a continuous numerical solution whose error with respect to the exact series solution is smaller than ϵ, uniformly in D(T) = {(x, t); 0 ≤ xd, 0 ≤ tT}. Uniqueness of solutions is also studied.  相似文献

The inverse scattering method is used to determine the distribution limit as ? → 0 of the solution u(x, t, ?) of the initial value problem. Ut ? 6uux + ?2uxxx = 0, u(x, 0) = v(x), where v(x) is a positive bump which decays sufficiently fast as x x→±α. The case v(x) ? 0 has been solved by Peter D. Lax and C. David Levermore [8], [9], [10]. The computation of the distribution limit of u(x, t, ?) as ? → 0 is reduced to a quadratic maximization problem, which is then solved.  相似文献

We consider the asymptotic behavior of the solutions ofscaled convection-diffusion equations ∂ t u ɛ (t, x) = κΔ x (t, x) + 1/ɛV(t2,xɛ) ·∇ x u ɛ (t, x) with the initial condition u ɛ(0,x) = u 0(x) as the parameter ɛ↓ 0. Under the assumptions that κ > 0 and V(t, x), (t, x) ∈R d is a d-dimensional,stationary, zero mean, incompressible, Gaussian random field, Markovian and mixing in t we show that the laws of u ɛ(t,·), t≥ 0 in an appropriate functional space converge weakly, as ɛ↓ 0, to a δ-type measureconcentrated on a solution of a certain constant coefficient heat equation. We consider the periodic boundary-value problem u tt u xx = g(x, t), u(0, t) = u(π, t) = 0, u(x, t + ω) = u(x, t). By representing a solution of this problem in the form u(x, t) = u 0(x, t) + ũ(x, t), where u 0(x, t) is a solution of the corresponding homogeneous problem and ũ(x, t) is the exact solution of the inhomogeneous equation such that ũ(x, t + ω) u x = ũ(x, t), we obtain conditions for the solvability of the inhomogeneous periodic boundary-value problem for certain values of the period ω. We show that the relation obtained for a solution includes known results established earlier. __________ Translated from Ukrains'kyi Matematychnyi Zhurnal, Vol. 57, No. 7, pp. 912–921, July, 2005.  相似文献

We consider the class of equations ut=f(uxx, ux, u) under the restriction that for all a,b,c. We first consider this equation over the unbounded domain ? ∞ < x < + ∞, and we show that very nearly every bounded nonmonotonic solution of the form u(t, x)=?(x?ct) is unstable to all nonnegative and all nonpositive perturbations. We then extend these results to nonmonotonic plane wave solutions u(t, x, y)=?(x?ct) of ut = F(uxx, uxy, ux, uy, u). Finally, we consider the class of equations ut=f(uxx, ux, u) over the bounded domain 0 < x < 1 with the boundary conditions u(t, x)=A at x=0 and u(t, x)=B at x=1, and we find the stability of all steady solutions u(t, x)=?(x).  相似文献
