In this article, an efficient fourth‐order accurate numerical method based on Padé approximation in space and singly diagonally implicit Runge‐Kutta method in time is proposed to solve the time‐dependent one‐dimensional reaction‐diffusion equation. In this scheme, we first approximate the spatial derivative using the second‐order central finite difference then improve it to fourth‐order by applying Padé approximation. A three stage fourth‐order singly diagonally implicit Runge‐Kutta method is then used to solve the resulting system of ordinary differential equations. It is also shown that the scheme is unconditionally stable, and is suitable for stiff problems. Several numerical examples are solved by the scheme and the efficiency and accuracy of the new scheme are compared with two widely used high‐order compact finite difference methods. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Traditionally, explicit numerical algorithms have not been used with stiff ordinary differential equations (ODEs) due to their stability. Implicit schemes are usually very expensive when used to solve systems of ODEs with very large dimension. Stabilized Runge‐Kutta methods (also called Runge–Kutta–Chebyshev methods) were proposed to try to avoid these difficulties. The Runge–Kutta methods are explicit methods with extended stability domains, usually along the negative real axis. They can easily be applied to large problem classes with low memory demand, they do not require algebra routines or the solution of large and complicated systems of nonlinear equations, and they are especially suited for discretizations using the method of lines of two and three dimensional parabolic partial differential equations. In Martín‐Vaquero and Janssen [Comput Phys Commun 180 (2009), 1802–1810], we showed that previous codes based on stabilized Runge–Kutta algorithms have some difficulties in solving problems with very large eigenvalues and we derived a new code, SERK2, based on sixth‐order polynomials. Here, we develop a new method based on second‐order polynomials with up to 250 stages and good stability properties. These methods are efficient numerical integrators of very stiff ODEs. Numerical experiments with both smooth and nonsmooth data support the efficiency and accuracy of the new algorithms when compared to other well‐known second‐order methods such as RKC and ROCK2. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article we present a method of lines approach to the numerical solution of a system of coupled hyperbolic—parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs). Special attention is paid to preserving the positivity of the solution of the PDEs when this solution is approximated numerically. This is achieved by using a flux‐limited spatial discretization for the hyperbolic equation. We use splitting techniques for the solution of the resulting large system of stiff ordinary differential equations. The performance of the approach applied to a biomathematical model is compared with the performance of standard methods. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The aim of this article is to present an efficient numerical procedure for solving nonlinear integro‐differential equations. Our method depends mainly on a Taylor expansion approach. This method transforms the integro‐differential equation and the given conditions into the matrix equation which corresponds to a system of nonlinear algebraic equations with unkown Taylor coefficients. The reliability and efficiency of the proposed scheme are demonstrated by some numerical experiments and performed on the computer program written in Maple10. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The aim of this paper is to propose a multigrid method to obtain the numerical solution of the one‐dimensional nonlinear sine‐Gordon equation. The finite difference equations at all interior grid points form a large sparse linear system, which needs to be solved efficiently. The solution cost of this sparse linear system usually dominates the total cost of solving the discretized partial differential equation. The proposed method is based on applying a compact finite difference scheme of fourth‐order for discretizing the spatial derivative and the standard second‐order central finite difference method for the time derivative. The proposed method uses the Richardson extrapolation method in time variable. The obtained system has been solved by V‐cycle multigrid (VMG) method, where the VMG method is used for solving the large sparse linear systems. The numerical examples show the efficiency of this algorithm for solving the one‐dimensional sine‐Gordon equation. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, a new computational scheme based on operational matrices (OMs) of two‐dimensional wavelets is proposed for the solution of variable‐order (VO) fractional partial integro‐differential equations (PIDEs). To accomplish this method, first OMs of integration and VO fractional derivative (FD) have been derived using two‐dimensional Legendre wavelets. By implementing two‐dimensional wavelets approximations and the OMs of integration and variable‐order fractional derivative (VO‐FD) along with collocation points, the VO fractional partial PIDEs are reduced into the system of algebraic equations. In addition to this, some useful theorems are discussed to establish the convergence analysis and error estimate of the proposed numerical technique. Furthermore, computational efficiency and applicability are examined through some illustrative examples.  相似文献

In this article, a fast singly diagonally implicit Runge–Kutta method is designed to solve unsteady one‐dimensional convection diffusion equations. We use a three point compact finite difference approximation for the spatial discretization and also a three‐stage singly diagonally implicit Runge–Kutta (RK) method for the temporal discretization. In particular, a formulation evaluating the boundary values assigned to the internal stages for the RK method is derived so that a phenomenon of the order of the reduction for the convergence does not occur. The proposed scheme not only has fourth‐order accuracy in both space and time variables but also is computationally efficient, requiring only a linear matrix solver for a tridiagonal matrix system. It is also shown that the proposed scheme is unconditionally stable and suitable for stiff problems. Several numerical examples are solved by the new scheme and the numerical efficiency and superiority of it are compared with the numerical results obtained by other methods in the literature. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Separation of variables is a well‐known technique for solving differential equations. However, it is seldom used in practical applications since it is impossible to carry out a separation of variables in most cases. In this paper, we propose the amplitude–shape approximation (ASA) which may be considered as an extension of the separation of variables method for ordinary differential equations. The main idea of the ASA is to write the solution as a product of an amplitude function and a shape function, both depending on time, and may be viewed as an incomplete separation of variables. In fact, it will be seen that such a separation exists naturally when the method of lines is used to solve certain classes of coupled partial differential equations. We derive new conditions which may be used to solve the shape equations directly and present a numerical algorithm for solving the resulting system of ordinary differential equations for the amplitude functions. Alternatively, we propose a numerical method, similar to the well‐established exponential time differencing method, for solving the shape equations. We consider stability conditions for the specific case corresponding to the explicit Euler method. We also consider a generalization of the method for solving systems of coupled partial differential equations. Finally, we consider the simple reaction diffusion equation and a numerical example from chemical kinetics to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. The ASA results in far superior numerical results when the relative errors are compared to the separation of variables method. Furthermore, the method leads to a reduction in CPU time as compared to using the Rosenbrock semi‐implicit method for solving a stiff system of ordinary differential equations resulting from a method of lines solution of a coupled pair of partial differential equations. The present amplitude–shape method is a simplified version of previous ones due to the use of a linear approximation to the time dependence of the shape function. A numerical method based on an integro‐differential formulation is proposed for solving a one‐dimensional moving boundary Stefan problem involving heat conduction in a solid with phase change. Some specific test problems are solved using the proposed method. The numerical results obtained indicate that it can give accurate solutions and may offer an interesting and viable alternative to existing numerical methods for solving the Stefan problem. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we discuss a numerical method for solving some nonlinear inverse parabolic partial differential equations with Dirichlet's boundary conditions. The approach used, is based on collocation of cubic B‐splines over finite elements, so we have continuity of the dependent variable and its first two derivatives throughout the solution range. We apply cubic B‐splines for spatial variable and derivatives, which produce an ill‐posed system. We solve this system using the Tikhonov regularization method. The accuracy of the proposed method is demonstrated by applying it on two test problems. The figures and comparisons have been presented for clarity. Also the stability of this method has been discussed. The main advantage of the resulting scheme is that the algorithm is very simple, so it is very easy to implement. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Problems for parabolic partial differential equations with nonlocal boundary conditions have been studied in many articles, but boundary value problems for hyperbolic partial differential equations have so far remained nearly uninvestigated. In this article a numerical technique is presented for the solution of a nonclassical problem for the one‐dimensional wave equation. This method uses the cubic B‐spline scaling functions. Some numerical results are reported to support our study. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2007  相似文献

In this work, we present numerical analysis for nonlinear multi‐term time fractional differential equation which involve Caputo‐type fractional derivatives for . The proposed method is based on utilization of fractional B‐spline basics in collocation method. The scheme can be readily obtained efficient and quite accurate with less computational work numerical result. The proposal approach transform nonlinear multi‐term time fractional differential equation into a suitable linear system of algebraic equations which can be solved by a suitable numerical method. The numerical experiments will be verify to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method for solving one‐ and two‐dimensional multi‐term time fractional differential equation.  相似文献

In the current study, an approximate scheme is established for solving the fractional partial differential equations (FPDEs) with Volterra integral terms via two‐dimensional block‐pulse functions (2D‐BPFs). According to the definitions and properties of 2D‐BPFs, the original problem is transformed into a system of linear algebra equations. By dispersing the unknown variables for these algebraic equations, the numerical solutions can be obtained. Besides, the proof of the convergence of this system is given. Finally, several numerical experiments are presented to test the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

The fully Sinc‐Galerkin method is developed for a family of complex‐valued partial differential equations with time‐dependent boundary conditions. The Sinc‐Galerkin discrete system is formulated and represented by a Kronecker product form of those equations. The numerical solution is efficiently calculated and the method exhibits an exponential convergence rate. Several examples, some with a real‐valued solution and some with a complex‐valued solution, are used to demonstrate the performance of this method. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we study the numerical solution to time‐fractional partial differential equations with variable coefficients that involve temporal Caputo derivative. A spectral method based on Gegenbauer polynomials is taken for approximating the solution of the given time‐fractional partial differential equation in time and a collocation method in space. The suggested method reduces this type of equation to the solution of a linear algebraic system. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, an effective numerical approach based on a new two‐dimensional hybrid of parabolic and block‐pulse functions (2D‐PBPFs) is presented for solving nonlinear partial quadratic integro‐differential equations of fractional order. Our approach is based on 2D‐PBPFs operational matrix method together with the fractional integral operator, described in the Riemann–Liouville sense. The main characteristic behind this approach is to reduce such problems to those of solving systems of algebraic equations, which greatly simplifies the problem. By using Newton's iterative method, this system is solved, and the solution of fractional nonlinear partial quadratic integro‐differential equations is achieved. Convergence analysis and an error estimate associated with the proposed method is obtained, and it is proved that the numerical convergence order of the suggested numerical method is O(h3) . The validity and applicability of the method are demonstrated by solving three numerical examples. Numerical examples are presented in the form of tables and graphs to make comparisons with the exact solutions much easier.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the numerical solution of delay integro‐differential equations. The main purpose of this work is to provide a new numerical approach based on the use of continuous collocation Taylor polynomials for the numerical solution of delay integro‐differential equations. It is shown that this method is convergent. Numerical illustrations confirm our theoretical analysis. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Two‐dimensional time‐fractional diffusion equations with given initial condition and homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions in a bounded domain are considered. A semidiscrete approximation scheme based on the pseudospectral method to the time‐fractional diffusion equation leads to a system of ordinary fractional differential equations. To preserve the high accuracy of the spectral approximation, an approach based on the evaluation of the Mittag‐Leffler function on matrix arguments is used for the integration along the time variable. Some examples along with numerical experiments illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A new class of Euler's method for the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations is presented in this article. The methods are iterative in nature and admit their geometric derivation from an exponentially fitted osculating straight line. They are single-step methods and do not require evaluation of any derivatives. The accuracy and stability of the proposed methods are considered and their applicability to stiff problems is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents numerical solutions for the space‐ and time‐fractional Korteweg–de Vries equation (KdV for short) using the variational iteration method. The space‐ and time‐fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense. In this method, general Lagrange multipliers are introduced to construct correction functionals for the problems. The multipliers in the functionals can be identified optimally via variational theory. The iteration method, which produces the solutions in terms of convergent series with easily computable components, requiring no linearization or small perturbation. The numerical results show that the approach is easy to implement and accurate when applied to space‐ and time‐fractional KdV equations. The method introduces a promising tool for solving many space–time fractional partial differential equations. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2007  相似文献
