The synthesis of a novel pH‐sensitive hetero[4]rotaxane molecular machine through a self‐sorting strategy is reported. The original tetra‐interlocked molecular architecture combines a [c2]daisy chain scaffold linked to two [2]rotaxane units. Actuation of the system through pH variation is possible thanks to the specific interactions of the dibenzo‐24‐crown‐8 (DB24C8) macrocycles for ammonium, anilinium, and triazolium molecular stations. Selective deprotonation of the anilinium moieties triggers shuttling of the unsubstituted DB24C8 along the [2]rotaxane units.  相似文献

Crown ether usually plays the role of macrocyclic host in supramolecular chemistry, but here the crown ether is also utilized as the stoppers in rotaxanes. In this work, we designed and synthesized two [3]rotaxanes containing four crown ether components by using an approach of template‐directed clipping reaction, of which, two crown ether components were employed as the macrocyclic hosts to assemble the mechanically interlocked framework while another two crown ether units located on the two ends of ammonium template acting as the stoppering groups of rotaxanes. Their self‐assembling process was monitored by the 1H NMR and one of the single crystal structures of [3]rotaxane was obtained.  相似文献

The efficient synthesis and very easy isolation of dibenzo[24]crown‐8‐based [2]pseudorotaxane building blocks that contain an active ester motif at the extremity of the encircled molecular axle and an ammonium moiety as a template for the dibenzo[24]crown‐8 is reported. The active ester acts both as a semistopper for the [2]pseudorotaxane species and as an extensible extremity. Among the various investigated active ester moieties, those that allow for the slippage process are given particular focus because this strategy produces fewer side products. Extension of the selected N‐hydroxysuccinimide ester based pseudorotaxane building block by using either a mono‐ or a diamino compound, both containing a triazolium moiety, is also described. These provide a pH‐dependent two‐station [2]rotaxane molecular machine and a palindromic [3]rotaxane molecular machine, respectively. Molecular machinery on both interlocked compounds through variation of pH was studied and characterized by means of NMR spectroscopy.  相似文献

In this Communication, a competing self-sorting system containing benzo-21-crown-7, dibenzo-24-crown-8 and two secondary ammonium salts is constructed, which is then modified to achieve a hetero[3]pseudorotaxane with a specific sequence of wheels. With these two systems, we successfully demonstrate the concept of integrative self-sorting, and their relation. Furthermore, based on this self-sorting scheme, a hetero[3]rotaxane with an efficient stopper cascade has been synthesized.  相似文献

One linear template 13 and one cyclophane template 15, both incorporating two electron rich 1,4‐dialkoxybenzene units and one diamide unit, have been synthesized. By utilizing donor‐acceptor interaction and/or intermolecular hydrogen bonding assembling principles, one novel hetero[3]rotazane 22·4Cl, possessing one neutral and one tetracationic ring components, has been synthesized from 13, through neutral [2]rotaxane 21 as intermediate. With 15 as template, tetracationic [2]catenane 23·4PF6 was assembled by using donor‐acceptor interaction, but no neutral [2]rotaxane could be obtained under the typical conditions of hydrogen bonding assembling principle. The interlocked supramolecular compounds have been characterized and their spectral properties are investigated.  相似文献

The first anion‐templated synthesis of a lanthanide‐containing interlocked molecule is demonstrated by utilizing a nitrite anion to template initial pseudorotaxane formation. Subsequent stoppering of the interpenetrated assembly allows for the preparation of a lanthanide‐functionalized [2]rotaxane in high yield. Following removal of the nitrite anion template, the europium [2]rotaxane host is demonstrated to recognize and sense fluoride selectively.  相似文献

This paper describes novel host-guest systems comprising viologen cations (guests) and the derivatives of bis-para-phenylene-34-crown-10 (hosts) with anionic groups COO(-) or SO(3)(-). The structure of the resulting charge-compensated host-guest complexes, their association constants and their electrochemical behaviour have been studied. In the solid state, the viologen cations thread the negatively charged crown ethers forming electroneutral zwitterion-like [2]pseudorotaxane salts; in solution this threaded geometry is preserved. The association constants of [2]pseudorotaxane salts incorporating the 1,1'-diethylviologen moiety in solution are significantly higher than those of previously reported analogues. The extrapolated association free energies in non-aqueous media exceed -40 kJ mol(-1) at 25 degrees C. This significant increase of the interaction free energy makes these compounds stable even in aqueous solutions. The association constants of [2]pseudorotaxane salts incorporating sterically more hindered 1,1'-diethyl-3,3'-dimethylviologen moieties are significantly lower. Structurally related [2]rotaxane salts, in which the oppositely charged ionic components are mechanically interlocked, have been prepared in good yields. It has been shown that [2]rotaxane salts incorporating anti-isomers of bisfunctionalised crown ethers are cycloenantiomeric. In both [2]pseudorotaxane and [2]rotaxane salts, the electrostatic interactions between the viologen moieties and the negatively charged crown ethers lead to very significant negative shifts of viologen reduction potentials up to 450 mV. The findings of the present study are valuable for the design of nanoscale molecular electronic devices.  相似文献

A zinc porphyrin‐containing [3]rotaxane A was synthesized through a copper(I)‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction. Energy donors and acceptor porphyrin were introduced to dibenzo[24]crown‐8 (DB24C8) and dibenzyl ammonium (DBA) units of [3]rotaxane A to understand the intramolecular energy transfer process. Investigations of the photophysical properties of [3]rotaxane A demonstrated that the intramolecular efficient energy transfer readily occurred from the donors on the wheels to the porphyrin center on the axis. The fluorescence of energy donors in the region of 400 to 450 nm was efficiently absorbed by the porphyrin acceptor under irradiation at 345 nm, and finally a red light emission at about 600 nm was achieved. Further investigation indicated that the conformation of [3]rotaxane A was self‐modulated by changing its concentration in CH2Cl2. The triazole groups on the wheel coordinated or uncoordinated to Zn2+ through intramolecular self‐coordination with the change in the concentration of [3]rotaxane A in CH2Cl2. Therefore, this conformational change was reversible in a non‐coordinating solvent such as CH2Cl2 but inhibited in a coordinating solvent such as THF. Such interesting behaviors were rarely observed in porphyrin derivatives. This self‐modulation feature opens up the possibility of controlling molecular conformation by varying concentration.  相似文献

[structure: see text] Post-assembly covalent modification using Wittig chemistry of [2]rotaxane ylides, wherein NH(2)(+) centers in the dumbbell-shaped components are recognized by dibenzo[24]crown-8 (DB24C8) rings, has afforded a [3]catenane and a [3]rotaxane with a precise and synthetically prescribed shortage of DB24C8 rings. The nondegenerate pairs of translational isomers present in both of these interlocked molecular compounds provide the fundamental platform on which to construct sensory devices and nanochemomechanical systems.  相似文献

The cover picture shows shows the construction of crown etherstoppering [3]rotaxanes based on N ‐hetero crown ether host. Usually, crown ethers play the role of host macrocycles to combine with the guest molecules in the construction of rotaxanes. Based on the fact that crown ethers have large dimension, two [3]rotaxanes containing four crown ether units were designed and synthesized, of which, two N ‐hetero crown ether components were employed as the macrocyclic hosts to assemble the mechanically interlocked framework by using a template‐directed clipping reaction while bis (metaphenylene‐26‐crown‐8) located on two sides of template diammonium acting as the stoppering groups of [3]rotaxanes. More details are discussed in the article by Yin et al. on page 1050–1056.

By taking advantage of the fact that cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6]) forms exceptionally stable host–guest complexes with protonated amines, and that its homologue CB[8] can encapsulate a pair of electron‐rich and electron‐deficient guest molecules to form a stable 1:1:1 complex, we synthesized a novel dendritic [10]pseudorotaxane, or second‐generation rotaxane dendrimer (from a topological point of view), in which 13 molecular components are held together by noncovalent interactions. A triply branched molecule containing an electron‐deficient bipyridinium unit on each branch formed a branched [4]pseudorotaxane with 3 equivalents of CB[8]. Addition of 3 equivalents of 2,6‐dihydroxynaphthalene produced a first‐generation rotaxane dendrimer, which was characterized by NMR spectroscopy and CSI‐MS. The reaction of the branched [4]pseudorotaxane with 3 equivalents of a triply branched molecule that has an electron‐donor unit at one arm and CB[6]‐containing units at the other two gave the dendritic [10]pseudorotaxane, the structure of which was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy, UV/Vis titration experiments, and CSI‐MS.  相似文献

Permanently interlocked [2]rotaxane ligands can be created by capping a pyridine terminated [2]pseudorotaxane with terpyridine containing stoppers. The robust nature of the resulting [2]rotaxane ligand allows coordination to inert metals such as Ru(II) not possible under standard self-assembly conditions.  相似文献

Coordination‐driven self‐assembly of differently shaped di‐ to hexavalent crown‐ether host molecules is described. A series of [21]crown‐7‐ and [24]crown‐8‐substituted bipyridine and terpyridine ligands was synthetized in a “toolbox” approach. Subsequent coordination to 3d transition metal and ruthenium(II) ions provides an easy and fast access to host assemblies with variable valency and pre‐defined orientations of the crown‐ether moieties. Preliminary isothermal calorimetry (ITC) titrations provided promising results, which indicated the host complexes under study to be suitable for the future investigation of multivalent and cooperative binding. The hosts described herein will also be suitable for the construction of various multiply threaded mechanically interlocked molecules.  相似文献

A new cyclic [4]rotaxane composed of two flexible bis‐macrocycles and two rigid axles is described. Each bis‐macrocycle consists of two rings attached to antipodal meso positions of a central Zn porphyrin through single C? C bonds. Each ring incorporates a 2,9‐diphenyl‐1,10‐phenanthroline chelation site. The axles contain two coplanar bidentate sites derived from the 2,2′‐bipyridine motif. The building blocks were assembled by using a one‐pot threading‐and‐stoppering reaction, which afforded the [4]rotaxane in 50 % yield. The “gathering‐and‐threading” effect of copper(I) was utilised in the formation of a [4]pseudorotaxane, which was immediately converted to the corresponding [4]rotaxane by a quadruple CuAAC stoppering reaction. The rotaxane contains two face‐to‐face zinc porphyrins, which allowed the coordination of ditopic guest substrates. The rotaxane host showed remarkable flexibility and was able to adjust its conformation to the guest size. It can be distended and accommodate rod‐like guests of 2.6 to 15.8 Å in length.  相似文献

Two functional main‐chain linear polyrotaxanes, one a covalent polymeric chain that threads through many macrocycles ( P1 ) and the other a poly[n]rotaxane chain that is composed of many repeating rotaxane units ( P2 ), were synthesized by employing strong crown‐ether/ammonium‐based ( DB24C8 / DBA ) host–guest interactions and click chemistry. Energy transfer between the wheel and axle units in both polyrotaxanes was used to provide insight into the conformational information of their resulting polyrotaxanes. Steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopy were performed to understand the conformation differences between polymers P1 and P2 in solution. Additional investigations by using dynamic/static light scattering and atomic force microscopy illustrated that polymer P1 was unbending and had a rigid rod‐like structure, whilst polymer P2 was curved and flexible. This flexible topology facilitated the self‐assembly of polymer P2 into relatively large ball‐shaped particles. In addition, the energy transfer between the wheel and axle units was controlled by the addition of specific anions or base. The anion‐induced energy enhancement was attributed to a change in electrostatic interactions between the polymer chains. The base‐driven molecular shuttle broke the DB24C8 / DBA host–guest interactions. These results confirm that both intra‐ and intermolecular electrostatic interactions are crucial for modulating conformational topology, which determines the assembly of polyrotaxanes in solution.  相似文献

A bis‐branched [3]rotaxane, with two [2]rotaxane arms separated by an oligo(para‐phenylenevinylene) (OPV) fluorophore, was designed and investigated. Each [2]rotaxane arm employed a difluoroboradiaza‐s‐indacene (BODIPY) dye‐functionalized dibenzo[24]crown‐8 macrocycle interlocked onto a dibenzylammonium in the rod part. The chemical structure of the [3]rotaxane was confirmed and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and high‐resolution ESI mass spectrometry. The photophysical properties of [3]rotaxane and its reference systems were investigated through UV/Vis absorption, fluorescence, and time‐resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. An efficient energy‐transfer process in [3]rotaxane occurred from the OPV donor to the BODIPY acceptor because of the large overlap between the absorption spectrum of the BODIPY moiety and the emission spectrum of the OPV fluorophore; this shows the important potential of this system for designing functional molecular systems.  相似文献

Two novel tribranched [4]rotaxanes with a 1,3,5‐triphenylene core and three rotaxane arms have been designed, synthesized, and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopies and HR‐ESI mass spectrometry. [4]Rotaxanes 1 and 2 each possess the same three‐armed skeleton. Each arm incorporates two distinguishable binding sites for a dibenzo[24]crown‐8 ring, namely a dibenzylammonium site and an N‐methyltriazolium site, and is terminated by a 4‐morpholino‐naphthalimide fluorophore as a stopper. [4]Rotaxane 1 has three di‐ferrocene‐functionalized dibenzo[24]crown‐8 rings whereas 2 has three simple dibenzo[24]crown‐8 rings interlocked with the thread component. Uniform shuttling motions of the three macrocycles in both 1 and 2 can be driven by external acid–base stimuli, which were confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. However, [4]rotaxanes 1 and 2 show distinct modes of fluorescence modulation in response to external acid–base stimuli. [4]Rotaxane 1 exhibits a remarkable fluorescence decrease in response to the addition of 1,8‐diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec‐7‐ene (DBU) as a base, which can displace the ferrocene‐functionalized macrocycle from the dibenzylammonium station to the N‐methyltriazolium station. In contrast, the fluorescence intensity of [4]rotaxane 2 showed an enhancement with the addition of DBU. Time‐resolved fluorescence measurements have been performed. The different photoinduced electron‐transfer processes responsible for the fluorescence changes in the two molecular systems are discussed. Topological structures of this kind have significant potential for the design and construction of large and complex assemblies with controllable functions.  相似文献

Dibenzo‐24‐crown‐8‐terminated polystyrene ( 5 ) was chain extended to “dimeric” 8 by pseudorotaxane formation with a ditopic guest, α,ω‐bis[p‐(N‐benzylammoniomethyl)phenoxy]heptane bis(hexafluorophosphate) ( 7 ). The three‐armed star polymer 11 was similarly formed by complexation of the dibenzo‐24‐crown‐8‐terminated polystyrene ( 5 ) with a tritopic secondary ammonium salt, 1,3,5‐tris[p‐(benzylammoniomethyl)phenyl]benzene tris(hexafluorophosphate) ( 10 ). Another three‐armed star polymer 13 was self‐assembled from dibenzo‐24‐crown‐8‐terminated polystyrene ( 5 ) and a tetratopic paraquat compound, 1,2,4,5‐tetrakis{pN‐[(N′‐methyl‐4,4′‐bipyridinium)methylphenyl]}benzene octakis(hexafluorophosphate) ( 12 ). The above chain extension and star polymer formation processes seemed to be cooperative; that is, the second and third complexation steps proceed with stepwise higher efficiencies than statistically expected. Dibenzo‐24‐crown‐8‐terminated polystyrene ( 5 ) was chain extended with secondary ammonium terminated polystyrene 14 , forming 16 , and also self‐assembled with a secondary ammonium ion terminated polyisoprene 15 to form supramolecular block copolymer 17 . These processes were examined by NMR, mass spectrometry and viscometery. Thus, although binding in these systems is not particularly strong (association constants <104 M?1), these examples provide proof‐of‐principle that pseudorotaxane formation is a viable concept for chain extension and self‐assembly of novel types of block copolymers and star polymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. [2]Pseudorotaxanes, [2]rotaxanes and metal-organic rotaxane framework materials that utilise DB24C8 as the wheel component are well known and structural variations based on changing the axle component are common. Studies in which the DB24C8 wheel is structurally modified are much more limited. Herein, is described the synthesis of symmetrical DB24C8 analogues containing four CH(2)OR (R = CH(2)CH(2)CH(3), CH(2)(C(6)H(5)), C(6)H(5) and C(6)H(4)(4-COOEt)) substituents on the 4 and 5 positions of the aromatic rings. The effect of these molecular appendages on the stability and structures of the interpenetrated and interlocked molecules derived from these new wheels is described. The major effects are an increase in association constants for the formation of [2]pseudorotaxanes relative to DB24C8, the crystal packing of [2]rotaxanes and a change on the internal structure of a 2D MORF (R = C(6)H(5)) compared to DB24C8.  相似文献

Two novel multilevel switchable [2]rotaxanes containing an ammonium and a triazole station have been constructed by a CuI‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition reaction. The macrocycle of [2]rotaxane containing a C6‐chain bridge between the two hydrogen bonding stations exhibits high selectivity for the ammonium cation in the protonated form. Interestingly, the macrocycle is able to interact with the two recognition stations when the bridge between them is shortened. Upon deprotonation of both [2]rotaxanes, the macrocycle moves towards the triazole recognition site due to the hydrogen‐bond interaction between the triazole nitrogen atoms and the amide groups in the macrocycle. Upon addition of chloride anion, the conformation of [2]rotaxane is changed because of the cooperative recognition of the chloride anion by a favorable hydrogen‐bond donor from both the macrocycle isophthalamide and thread triazole CH proton.  相似文献
