Here, the large amplitude free flexural vibration behavior of symmetrically laminated composite skew plates is investigated using the finite element method. The formulation includes the effects of shear deformation, in-plane and rotary inertia. The geometric non-linearity based on von Kármán's assumptions is introduced. The nonlinear matrix amplitude equation obtained by employing Galerkin's method is solved by direct iteration technique. Time history for the nonlinear free vibration of composite skew plate is also obtained using Newmark's time integration technique to examine the accuracy of matrix amplitude equation. The variation of nonlinear frequency ratios with amplitudes is brought out considering different parameters such as skew angle, fiber orientation and boundary condition.  相似文献

A sector p-element is presented for the large amplitude free vibration analysis of laminated composite annular sector plates. The effects of out-of-plane shear deformations, rotary inertia, and geometric non-linearity are taken into account. The shape functions are derived from the shifted Legendre orthogonal polynomials. The element stiffness and mass matrices are integrated analytically with the aid of symbolic computing. The method consists of modeling the annular sector plate as one element. The accuracy of the solution is improved simply by increasing the polynomial order. The time-dependent coefficients are described by a truncated Fourier series. The equations of free motion are obtained using the harmonic balance method and solved by the linearized updated mode method. Results for the linear and non-linear frequencies of clamped laminated composite annular sector plates are obtained. The case of a clamped isotropic annular sector plate is also shown. The linear frequencies are found to converge rapidly downwards as the polynomial order is increased. Comparisons of the linear frequencies with published results show excellent agreement. The effects of sector angle, inner-to-outer radius ratio, thickness-to-outer radius ratio, moduli ratio, number of plies, and layup sequence on the backbone curves are also investigated. It is shown that the hardening behavior increases or decreases depending on geometric and lamination parameters.  相似文献

Theoretical and experimental non-linear vibrations of thin rectangular plates and curved panels subjected to out-of-plane harmonic excitation are investigated. Experiments have been performed on isotropic and laminated sandwich plates and panels with supported and free boundary conditions. A sophisticated measuring technique has been developed to characterize the non-linear behavior experimentally by using a Laser Doppler Vibrometer and a stepped-sine testing procedure. The theoretical approach is based on Donnell's non-linear shell theory (since the tested plates are very thin) but retaining in-plane inertia, taking into account the effect of geometric imperfections. A unified energy approach has been utilized to obtain the discretized non-linear equations of motion by using the linear natural modes of vibration. Moreover, a pseudo arc-length continuation and collocation scheme has been used to obtain the periodic solutions and perform bifurcation analysis. Comparisons between numerical simulations and the experiments show good qualitative and quantitative agreement. It is found that, in order to simulate large-amplitude vibrations, a damping value much larger than the linear modal damping should be considered. This indicates a very large and non-linear increase of damping with the increase of the excitation and vibration amplitude for plates and curved panels with different shape, boundary conditions and materials.  相似文献

This paper deals with the large amplitude vibration, non-linear bending and postbuckling of fiber reinforced composite laminated plates resting on an elastic foundation in hygrothermal environments. Two kinds of fiber reinforced laminated plates, namely, uniformly distributed and functionally graded reinforcements, are considered. The material properties of fiber reinforced laminated plates are estimated through a micromechanical model and are assumed to be temperature-dependent and moisture-dependent. The motion equations are based on a higher order shear deformation plate theory that includes plate-foundation interaction and the hygrothermal effect. A two-step perturbation technique is employed to determine the non-linear to linear frequency ratios of plate vibration, the load-deflection and load-bending moment curves of plate bending, and postbuckling equilibrium paths of laminated plates.  相似文献

The large amplitude flexural vibration characteristics of functionally graded material (FGM) plates are investigated here using a shear flexible finite element approach. Material properties of the plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of the constituents. The effective material properties are then evaluated based on the rule of mixture. The FGM plate is modeled using the first-order shear deformation theory based on exact neutral surface position and von Kármán’s assumptions for large displacement. The third-order piston theory is employed to evaluate the aerodynamic pressure. The governing equations of motion are solved by harmonic balance method to study the vibration amplitude of FGM plates under supersonic air flow. Thereafter, the non-linear equations of motion are solved using Newmark’s time integration technique to understand the flexural vibration behavior of FGM plates in time domain (simple harmonic or periodic or quasi-periodic). This work is new in the sense that it deals with the non-linear flutter characteristics of FGM plates under high supersonic airflow accounting for both the geometric and aerodynamic non-linearities. Some parametric study is conducted to understand the influence of these non-linearities on the flutter characteristics of FGM plates.  相似文献

In this paper, the governing equations for non-linear free vibration of truncated, thin, laminated, orthotropic conical shells using the theory of large deformations with the Karman-Donnell-type of kinematic nonlinearity are derived. Applying superposition principle and Galerkin’s method, these equations are reduced to a time dependent non-linear differential equation. The frequency-amplitude relationship for the laminated orthotropic thin truncated conical shell is obtained using the method of weighted residuals. In the particular case, we can obtain the similar relationships for the single-layer and laminated orthotropic cylindrical shells, also. The influence played by geometrical parameters of the conical shell and physical parameters of the laminate (i.e. material properties, staking sequences and number of layers) on the non-linear vibration behavior of the conical shell is examined. It is noticed that the non-linear vibration of shells is highly dependent on laminate characteristics and, from these observations, it is concluded that specific configurations of laminates should be designed for each kind of application. Present results are compared with available data for special cases.  相似文献

Steady-state free vibrations, with large amplitude displacements, of variable stiffness composite laminated plates (VSCL) are analysed. The intentions of this research are: (1)?to find out how the natural frequencies and (mode) shapes evolve with the displacement amplitude in this new type of laminated composite material; (2)?to describe modal interactions in VSCL due to energy interchanges under the coupling induced by non-linearity; (3)?to compare the VSCL with traditional, constant stiffness, laminated plates. The VSCL of interest here have curvilinear fibres and the numerical analysis carried out is based on a recently developed p-version finite element with hierarchic basis functions. The element follows first-order shear deformation theory and considers Von Kármán??s non-linear terms. The time domain equations of motion are first reduced using the linear modes of vibration and then transformed to the frequency domain via the harmonic balance method. These frequency domain equations are solved by an arc-length continuation method.  相似文献

Stability characteristics of composite skew plates subjected to in-plane compressive load are investigated here using the shear deformable finite element approach. The influences of high prebuckling stresses at the corner regions of isotropic and composite skew plates on their stability characteristics are emphasized for different load direction, boundary condition and laminate stacking sequence. The non-linear governing equations based on von Kármán's assumptions are solved by Newton-Raphson technique to get the hitherto unreported postbuckling equilibrium paths of composite skew plates loaded between two rigid flat platens. The variation of out-of-plane deformation and end-shortening with compressive in-plane load are examined for simply supported and clamped skew plates made of isotropic, symmetric and unsymmetric laminates. Marguerre's shallow shell theory is employed to study the effect of sinusoidal imperfection on the non-linear behavior of composite skew plates.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Application of the Galerkin method to various fluid and structural mechanics problems that are governed by a single linear or nonlinear differential equation is well known [1-5]. Recently, the method has been extended to finite element formulations [6-10], In this paper the suitability of the Galerkin method for solution of large deflection problems of plates is studied. The method is first applied to investigate large deflection behavior of clamped isotropic plates on elastic foundations. After validity of the method is established, it is then extended to analyze problems of large deflection of clamped skew sandwich plates, both with and without elastic foundations. The plates are considered to be subjected to uniformly distributed loads. The governing differential equations for the sandwich plate in terms of displacements in Cartesian coordinates are first established and then transformed into skew coordinates. The nonlinear differential equations of the plates are then transformed into nonlinear algebraic equations, using the Galerkin method. These equations are solved using a Newton-Raphson iterative procedure. The parameters considered herein for large deflection behavior of skew sandwich plates are the aspect ratio of the plate, Poisson's ratio, skew angle, shearing stiffnesses of the core, and foundation moduli. Numerical results are presented for skew sandwich plates for various skew angles and aspect ratios. Simplicity and quick convergence are the advantages of the method, in comparison with other much more laborious numerical methods that require extensive computer facilities.  相似文献

Thermal post-buckled vibration of laminated composite doubly curved panel embedded with shape memory alloy (SMA) fiber is investigated and presented in this article. The geometry matrix and the nonlinear stiffness matrices are derived using Green–Lagrange type nonlinear kinematics in the framework of higher order shear deformation theory. In addition to that, material nonlinearity in shape memory alloy due to thermal load is incorporated by the marching technique. The developed mathematical model is discretized using a nonlinear finite element model and the sets of nonlinear governing equations are obtained using Hamilton’s principle. The equations are solved using the direct iterative method. The effect of nonlinearity both in geometric and material have been studied using the developed model and compared with those published literature. Effect of various geometric parameters such as thickness ratio, amplitude ratio, lamination scheme, support condition, prestrains of SMA, and volume fractions of SMA on the nonlinear free vibration behavior of thermally post-buckled composite flat/curved panel been studied in detail and reported.  相似文献

The large amplitude free flexural vibration of transversely isotropic rectangular plate, incorporating the effects of transverse shear and rotatory inertia, is studied using the von Karman field equations. A mode shape, consisting of three generalised-coordinates together with the Galerkin technique, results in a system of three non-linear simultaneous ordinary differential equations which govern the motion of the plate. These equations are integrated using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta method to obtain the period for each amplitude of vibration. The non-linear period vs amplitude behaviour is of the hardening type and it is also found that transverse shear and rotary inertia effects increase the period and that this increase is quite significant even for thin transversely isotropic plates. The results are compared with earlier results which were based on a one-term or one generalised coordinate solution and using the Berger approximation or the von Karman field equations.  相似文献

The creep buckling and post-buckling of the laminated piezoelectric viscoelastic functionally graded material (FGM) plates are studied in this research. Considering the transverse shear deformation and geometric nonlinearity, the Von Karman geometric relation of the laminated piezoelectric viscoelastic FGM plates with initial deflection is established. And then nonlinear creep governing equations of the laminated piezoelectric viscoelastic FGM plates subjected to an in-plane compressive load are derived on the basis of the elastic piezoelectric theory and Boltzmann superposition principle. Applying the finite difference method and the Newmark scheme, the whole problem is solved by the iterative method. In numerical examples, the effects of geometric nonlinearity, transverse shear deformation, the applied electric load, the volume fraction and the geometric parameters on the creep buckling and post-buckling of laminated piezoelectric viscoelastic FGM plates with initial deflection are investigated.  相似文献

The geometrically nonlinear forced vibration response of non-continuous elastic-supported laminated composite thin cylindrical shells is investigated in this paper. Two kinds of non-continuous elastic supports are simulated by using artificial springs, which are point and arc constraints, respectively. By using a set of Chebyshev polynomials as the admissible displacement function, the nonlinear differential equation of motion of the shell subjected to periodic radial point loading is obtained through the Lagrange equations, in which the geometric nonlinearity is considered by using Donnell’s nonlinear shell theory. Then, these equations are solved by using the numerical method to obtain nonlinear amplitude–frequency response curves. The numerical results illustrate the effects of spring stiffness and constraint range on the nonlinear forced vibration of points-supported and arcs-supported laminated composite cylindrical shells. The results reveal that the geometric nonlinearity of the shell can be changed by adjusting the values of support stiffness and distribution areas of support, and the values of circumferential and radial stiffness have a more significant influence on amplitude–frequency response than the axial and torsional stiffness.

Here, the large amplitude free flexural vibrations of isotropic/laminated orthotropic rings are investigated, using a shear flexible curved beam element based on field consistency principle. A laminated refined beam theory is introduced for developing the element, which satisfies the interface transverse shear stress and displacement continuity, and has a vanishing shear stress on the inner and outer surfaces of the beam. The formulation includes in-plane and rotary inertia effects, and the non-linearity due to the finite deformation of the ring. The governing equations obtained using Lagrange's equations of motion are solved through the direct integration technique. Amplitude-frequency relationships evaluated from the dynamic response history are examined. Detailed numerical results are presented considering various parameters such as radius-to-thickness ratio, circumferential wave number and ovality for isotropic and laminated orthotropic rings. The nature and degree of the participation of various modes in non-linear asymmetric vibration of oval ring brought out through the present study are useful for accurate modelling of the closed non-circular structures.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to investigate the nonlinear vibration characteristics and active control of composite lattice sandwich plates using piezoelectric actuator and sensor. Three types of the sandwich plates with pyramidal, tetrahedral and Kagome cores are considered. In the structural modeling, the von Kármán large deflection theory is applied to establish the strain–displacement relations. The nonlinear equations of motion of the structures are derived by Hamilton’s principle with the assumed mode method. The nonlinear free and forced vibration responses of the lattice sandwich plates are calculated. The velocity feedback control (VFC) and H control methods are applied to design the controller. The nonlinear vibration responses of the sandwich plates with pyramidal, tetrahedral and Kagome cores are compared. The influences of the ply angle of the laminated face sheets, the thicknesses of the lattice core and face sheets and the excitation amplitude on the nonlinear vibration behaviors of the sandwich plates are investigated. The correctness of the H control algorithm is verified by comparing with the experiment results reported in the literature. The controlled nonlinear vibration response of the sandwich plate is computed and compared with that of the uncontrolled structural system. Numerical results indicate that the VFC and H control methods can effectively suppress the large amplitude vibration of the composite lattice sandwich plates.

The nonlinear oscillations and resonant responses of the symmetric cross-ply composite laminated plates are investigated theoretically and experimentally. The governing equations of motion for the composite laminated plate are derived by using the von Karman type equation, Reddy’s third-order shear deformation plate theory, and Galerkin method with the geometric nonlinearity. The four-dimensional averaged equation is obtained by using the method of multiple scales. The frequency-response functions are analyzed under the consideration of strongly coupled of two modes. The influences of the resonance case on the softening and hardening type of nonlinearity are analyzed with different parameters for the composite laminated plates. The numerical results indicate that there exist the hardening and softening types of the composite laminated plate in the specific resonant case. The variation of the response amplitudes is studied for the composite laminated plate under combined the transverse and in-plane excitations. A sweep frequency experiment is performed to obtain the hardening and softening nonlinearities of a composite laminated plate. The experimental results coincide with the numerical results qualitatively. The influences of the excitation amplitudes on the softening and hardening types of nonlinearity are also analyzed for the composite laminated plate. The amplitude spectrums of the test plate also demonstrate that the change of the nonlinear dynamic responses may be caused by the subharmonic resonance.  相似文献
