The inverse‐micellar preparation of Si nanoparticles (Nps) was improved by utilizing sodium naphthalide. The Si Nps were subsequently functionalized with 4‐vinylbenzoic acid for their attachment onto TiO2 films of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The average diameter of the COOH‐functionalized Si (Si? COOH) Nps was 4.6(±1.7) nm. Depth profiling by secondary‐ion mass spectrometry revealed that the Si Nps were uniformly attached onto the TiO2 films. The number of RuII dye molecules adsorbed onto a TiO2 film that was treated with the Si? COOH Nps was 42 % higher than that on the untreated TiO2 film. As a result, DSSCs that incorporated the Si? COOH Nps exhibited higher short‐circuit photocurrent density and an overall energy‐conversion efficiency than the untreated DSSCs by 22 % and 27 %, respectively. This enhanced performance, mostly owing to the intramolecular charge‐transfer to TiO2 from the dye molecules that were anchored to the Si? COOH Nps, was confirmed by comparing the performance with two different RuII–bipyridine dyes (N719 and N749).  相似文献

Anatase TiO2 nanorods with large specific surface areas and high crystallinity have been synthesized by surfactant‐free hydrothermal treatment of water‐soluble peroxotitanium acid (PTA). X‐ray diffraction and TEM analysis showed that all TiO2 nanorods derived from PTA in different hydrothermal processes were in the anatase phase, and high aspect ratio TiO2 nanorods with chain‐shaped structures were formed at 150 °C for 24 h by oriented growth. The nanorods were fabricated as photoanodes for high‐efficiency dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). DSSCs fabricated from the chain‐shaped TiO2 nanorods gave a highest short‐circuit current density of 14.8 mA cm?2 and a maximum energy conversion efficiency of 7.28 %, as a result of the presence of far fewer surface defects and grain boundaries than are present in commercial P25 TiO2 nanoparticles. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy also confirmed that DSSCs based on the TiO2 nanorods have enhanced electron transport properties and a long electron lifetime.  相似文献

A novel class of dyes, namely benzoporphyrins, was synthesized and implemented into dye‐sensitized solar cells. They feature complementary absorptions compared to N719 , which renders them promising candidates for co‐sensitization in DSSCs. Notably, metallated benzoporphyrins reveal a TiO2–nanoparticle attachment that is size and aggregation dependent. Therefore, unproductive energy‐transfer events between the selectively attached dyes can be prevented. In light of the latter, an efficiency improvement of 39 % has been achieved upon selective adsorption of benzoporphyrins and N719 onto different layers of TiO2 photoelectrode.  相似文献

One‐dimensional (1D) TiO2 nanostructures are desirable as photoanodes in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) due to their superior electron‐transport capability. However, making use of the DSSC performance of 1D rutile TiO2 photoanodes remains challenging, mainly due to the small surface area and consequently low dye loading. Herein, a new type of photoanode with a three‐dimensional (3D) rutile‐nanorod‐based network structure directly grown on fluorine‐doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates was developed by using a facile two‐step hydrothermal process. The resultant photoanode possesses oriented rutile nanorod arrays for fast electron transport as the bottom layer and radially packed rutile head‐caps with an improved large surface area for efficient dye adsorption. The diffuse reflectance spectra showed that with the radially packed top layer, the light‐harvesting efficiency was increased due to an enhanced light‐scattering effect. A combination of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), dark current, and open‐circuit voltage decay (OCVD) analyses confirmed that the electron‐recombiantion rate was reduced on formation of the nanorod‐based 3D network for fast electron transport. As a resut, a light‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency of 6.31 % was achieved with this photoanode in DSSCs, which is comparable to the best DSSC efficiencies that have been reported to date for 1D rutile TiO2.  相似文献

In this work, high‐performance dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on new low‐cost visible nickel complex dye (VisDye), TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites electrodes, carbon nanoparticles counter electrodes, and ionic liquids electrolytes have been fabricated. The electronic structure, optical spectroscopy, and electrochemical properties of the VisDye were studied. Experimental results indicate that it is beneficial to improve the electron transport and power conversion efficiency using the nickel complex VisDye and TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites. Under optimized conditions, the solar energy conversion efficiencies were measured. The short‐circuit current density (JSC), the open‐circuit voltage (VOC), the fill factor (FF), and the overall efficiency (η) of the DSSCs are 10.01 mA/cm2, 516 mV, 0.68, and 3.52%, respectively. This study demonstrates that the combination of new VisDye with TiO2 nanoparticle/nanotube composites electrodes and carbon nanoparticles counter electrodes provide a way to fabricate highly efficient dye‐sensitized solar cells in low‐cost production.  相似文献

Designing the photoanode structure in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is vital to realizing enhanced power conversion efficiency (PCE). Herein, novel multifunctional silver‐decorated porous titanium dioxide nanofibers (Ag/pTiO2 NFs) made by simple electrospinning, etching, and chemical reduction processes are introduced. The Ag/pTiO2 NFs with a high surface area of 163 m2 g?1 provided sufficient dye adsorption for light harvesting. Moreover, the approximately 200 nm diameter and rough surface of the Ag/pTiO2 NFs offered enough light scattering, and the enlarged interpores among the NFs in the photoanode also permitted electrolyte circulation. Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were well dispersed on the surface of the TiO2 NFs, which prevented aggregation of the Ag NPs after calcination. Furthermore, a localized surface plasmon resonance effect by the Ag NPs served to increase the light absorption at visible wavelengths. The surface area and amount of Ag NPs was optimized. The PCE of pTiO2 NF‐based DSSCs was 27 % higher (from 6.2 to 7.9 %) than for pure TiO2 NFs, whereas the PCE of Ag/pTiO2 NF‐based DSSCs increased by about 12 % (from 7.9 to 8.8 %). Thus, the PCE of the multifunctional pTiO2 NFs was improved by 42 %, that is, from 6.2 to 8.8 %.  相似文献

In this study, nonperipherally tetra‐substituted ( 2 ), peripherally tetra‐substituted ( 3 ), and peripherally octa‐substituted ( 4 ) zinc(II) phthalocyanines were synthesized as sensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) in which 3‐pyridin‐3‐ylpropoxy substituent acts as anchoring unit to bind TiO2 surface. The optical results indicated that there is an interaction between the dyes and the TiO2 surface. The photovoltaic performances of the DSSCs based on these dyes were found to depend on both the position and number of the substituents. Despite the more red‐shifted absorption, the DSSC based on 2 showed the conversion efficiency of 0.68%, which is lower than 1.36% and 0.92% for 3 and 4 , respectively, under one sun (AM 1.5G). The vertical orientation of the dye on TiO2 surface could be the main reason for the higher photovoltaic performance of complex 3 , which is beneficial for not only injecting the electrons into the conduction band of TiO2 but also reducing the charge recombination. Overall, these results demonstrate that the peripherally tetra‐substituted 3‐pyridin‐3‐ylpropoxy zinc(II) phthalocyanine complex ( 3 ) as a sensitizer can more efficiently utilize the photons in the red/near‐infrared region with respect to the other complexes studied.  相似文献

A facile way of controlling the structure of TiO2 by changing the amount of water to improve the efficiency of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is reported. Hierarchically ordered TiO2 films with high porosity and good interconnectivity are synthesized in a well‐defined morphological confinement arising from a one‐step self‐assembly of preformed TiO2 (pre‐TiO2) nanocrystals and a graft copolymer, namely poly(vinyl chloride)‐g‐poly(oxyethylene methacrylate). The polymer–solvent interactions in solution, which are tuned by the amount of water, are shown to be a decisive factor in determining TiO2 morphology and device performance. Systematic control of wall and pore size is achieved and enables the bifunctionality of excellent light scattering properties and easy electron transport through the film. These properties are characterized by reflectance spectroscopy, incident photon‐to‐electron conversion efficiency, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analyses. The TiO2 photoanode that is prepared with a higher water ratio, [pre‐TiO2]:[H2O]=1:0.3, shows a larger surface area, greater light scattering, and better electron transport, which result in a high efficiency (7.7 %) DSSC with a solid polymerized ionic liquid. This efficiency is much greater than that of commercially available TiO2 paste (4.0 %).  相似文献

In order to provide a direction in molecular design of catechol (Cat) dyes for type II dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), the dye‐to‐TiO2 charge‐transfer (DTCT) characteristics of Cat dyes with various substituents and their photovoltaic performance in DSSCs are investigated. The Cat dyes with electron‐donating or moderately electron‐withdrawing substituents exhibit a broad absorption band corresponding to DTCT upon binding to TiO2 films, whereas those with strongly electron‐withdrawing substituents exhibit weak DTCT. This study indicates that the introduction of a moderately electron‐withdrawing substituent on the Cat moiety leads to not only an increase in the DTCT efficiency, but also the retardation of back electron transfer. This results in favorable conditions for the type II electron‐injection pathway from the ground state of the Cat dye to the conduction band of the TiO2 electrode by the photoexcitation of DTCT bands.  相似文献

Three new triphenylamine dyes that contain alkylthio‐substituted thiophenes with a low bandgap as a π‐conjugated bridge unit were designed and synthesized for organic dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The effects of the structural differences in terms of the position, number, and shape of the alkylthio substituents in the thiophene bridge on the photophysical properties of the dye and the photovoltaic performance of the DSSC were investigated. The introduction of an alkylthio substituent at the 3‐position of thiophene led to a decrease in the degree of redshift and the value of the molar extinction coefficient of the charge‐transfer band, and the substituent with a bridged structure led to a larger redshift than that of the open‐chain structure. The introduction of bulky and hydrophobic side chains decreased the short‐circuit photocurrent (Jsc), which was caused by the reduced amount of dye adsorbed on TiO2. This resulted in a decrease in the overall conversion efficiency (η), even though it could improve the open‐circuit voltage (Voc) due to the retardation of charge recombination. Furthermore, the change in solvents for TiO2 sensitization had a critical effect on the performance of the resulting DSSCs due to the different amounts of dye adsorbed. Based on the optimized dye bath and molecular structure, the ethylene dithio‐substituted dye ( ATT3 ) showed a prominent solar‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency of 5.20 %.  相似文献

A novel series of dipolar organic dyes containing diarylamine as the electron donor, 2‐cyanoacrylic acid as the electron acceptor, and fluorene and a heteroaromatic ring as the conjugating bridge have been developed and characterized. These metal‐free dyes exhibited very high molar extinction coefficients in the electronic absorption spectra and have been successfully fabricated as efficient nanocrystalline TiO2 dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The solar‐energy‐to‐electricity conversion efficiencies of DSSCs ranged from 4.92 to 6.88 %, which reached 68–96 % of a standard device of N719 fabricated and measured under the same conditions. With a TiO2 film thickness of 6 μm, DSSCs based on these dyes had photocurrents surpassing that of the N719‐based device. DFT computation results on these dyes also provide detailed structural information in connection with their high cell performance.  相似文献

We report here the synthesis and electrochemical and photophysical properties of a series of easily prepared dipolar organic dyes and their application in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). For the six organic dyes, the molecular structures comprised a triphenylamine group as an electron donor, a cyanoacrylic acid as an electron acceptor, and an electron‐deficient diphenylquinoxaline moiety integrated in the π‐conjugated spacer between the electron donor and acceptor moieties. The incorporation of the electron‐deficient diphenylquinoxaline moiety effectively reduces the energy gap of the dyes and broadly extends the spectral coverage. DSSCs based on dye 6 produced the best overall cell performance of 7.35 %, which translates to approximately 79 % of the intrinsic efficiency of the DSSCs based on the standard N719 dye under identical experimental conditions. The high performance of DSSCs based on dye 6 among the six dyes explored is attributed to the combined effects of high dye loading on a TiO2 surface, rapid dye regeneration, and effective retardation of charge recombination.  相似文献

High‐performance Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET)‐based dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been successfully fabricated through the optimized design of a CdSe/CdS quantum‐dot (QD) donor and a dye acceptor. This simple approach enables quantum dots and dyes to simultaneously utilize the wide solar spectrum, thereby resulting in high conversion efficiency over a wide wavelength range. In addition, major parameters that affect the FRET interaction between donor and acceptor have been investigated including the fluorescent emission spectrum of QD, and the content of deposited QDs into the TiO2 matrix. By judicious control of these parameters, the FRET interaction can be readily optimized for high photovoltaic performance. In addition, the as‐synthesized water‐soluble quantum dots were highly dispersed in a nanoporous TiO2 matrix, thereby resulting in excellent contact between donors and acceptors. Importantly, high‐performance FRET‐based DSSCs can be prepared without any infrared (IR) dye synthetic procedures. This novel strategy offers great potential for applications of dye‐sensitized solar cells.  相似文献

Intensity‐modulated photocurrent spectroscopy and intensity‐modulated photovoltage spectroscopy are employed to measure the dynamics of electron transport and recombination in the ZnO nanowire (NW) array‐ZnO/layered basic zinc acetate (LBZA) nanoparticle (NP) composite dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The roles of the vertical ZnO NWs and insulating LBZA in the electron collection and transport in DSSCs are investigated by comparing the results to those in the TiO2–NP, horizontal TiO2–NW and vertical ZnO–NW‐array DSSCs. The electron transport rate and electron lifetime in the ZnO NW/NP composite DSSC are superior to those in the conventional TiO2–NP cell due to the existence of the vertical ZnO NWs and insulating LBZA. It indicates that the ZnO NW/NP composite anode is able to sustain efficient electron collection over much greater thickness than the TiO2–NP cell does. Consequently, a larger effective electron diffusion length is available in the ZnO composite DSSC.  相似文献

We designed and synthesized a series of novel electron‐accepting zinc(II)phthalocyanines (ZnPc) and probed them in p‐type dye sensitized solar cells (p‐DSSCs) by using CuO as photocathodes. By realizing the right balance between interfacial charge separation and charge recombination, optimized fill factors (FFs) of 0.43 were obtained. With a control over fill factors in p‐DSSCs in hand we turned our attemtion to t‐DSSCs, in which we combined for the first time CuO‐based p‐DSSCs with TiO2‐based n‐DSSCs using ZnPc and N719. In the resulting t‐DSSCs, the VOC of 0.86 V is the sum of those found in p‐ and n‐DSSCs, while the FF remains around 0.63. It is only the smaller Jscs in t‐DSSCs that limits the efficiency to 0.69 %.  相似文献

A series of zinc–phthalocyanine sensitizers ( PcS16 – 18 ) with different adsorption sites have been designed and synthesized in order to investigate the dependence of adsorption‐site structures on the solar‐cell performances in zinc–phthalocyanine based dye‐sensitized solar cells. The change of adsorption site affected the electron injection efficiency from the photoexcited dye into the nanocrystalline TiO2 semiconductor, as monitored by picosecond time‐resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. The zinc–phthalocyanine sensitizer PcS18 , possessing one carboxylic acid directly attached to the ZnPc ring and six 2,6‐diisopropylphenoxy units, showed a record power conversion efficiency value of 5.9 % when used as a light‐harvesting dye on a TiO2 electrode under one simulated solar condition.  相似文献

A unique one‐dimensional (1D) sandwich single‐walled TiO2 nanotube (STNT) is proposed as a photoanode nanomaterial with perfect morphology and large specific surface area. We have thoroughly examined the elementary photoelectronic processes occurring at the porphyrin dye/STNT hetero‐interface in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) by theoretical simulation. It is desirable to investigate the interfacial photoelectronic processes to elucidate the electron transfer and transport mechanism in 1D STNT‐based DSSCs. We have found that the photoexcitation and interfacial charge separation mechanism can be described as follows. A ground‐state electron of the dye molecule (localized around the electron donor) is first promoted to the excited state (distributed electron donor), and then undergoes ultrafast injection into the conduction band of the STNT, leaving a hole around the oxidized dye. Significantly, the injected electron in the conduction band is transported along the STNT by means of Ti 3d orbitals, offering a unidirectional electron pathway toward the electrode for massive collection without the observation of trap states. Our study not only provides theoretical guidelines for the modification of TiO2 nanotubes as a photoanode material, but also opens a new perspective for the development of a novel class of TiO2 nanotubes with high power‐generation efficiency.  相似文献

A tropolone group has been employed for the first time as an anchoring group for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The DSSC based on a porphyrin, YD2‐o‐C8T, with a tropolone moiety exhibited a power‐conversion efficiency of 7.7 %, which is only slightly lower than that observed for a reference porphyrin, YD2‐o‐C8 , with a conventional carboxylic group. More importantly, YD2‐o‐C8T was found to be superior to YD2‐o‐C8 with respect to DSSC durability and binding ability to TiO2. These results unambiguously demonstrate that tropolone is a highly promising dye‐anchoring group for DSSCs in terms of device durability as well as photovoltaic performance.  相似文献

Owing to well‐defined structural parameters and enhanced electronic properties, highly ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays have been employed to substitute TiO2 nanoparticles for use in dye‐sensitized solar cells. To further improve the performance of dye‐sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells, efforts have been directed toward the optimization of TiO2 photoanodes, dyes, electrolytes, and counter electrodes. Herein, we highlight recent progress in rational structural and surface engineering on anodic TiO2 nanotube arrays and their effects on improving the power conversion efficiency of dye‐sensitized TiO2 nanotube solar cells.  相似文献
