Abdelkader developed a method for solving the van der Pol equation numerically. He observed that the orthogonal trajectories of the van der Pol equation satisfy a Riccati equation, the solution to which can be expressed in terms of Bessel functions. In the present paper, all nonlinear equations whose orthogonal trajectories satisfy Riccati or generalized Riccati equations are determined. Further on, another representation of the trajectories of the van der Pol equation is derived. This representation appears to be simpler than Abdelkader's.  相似文献

This paper deals with the non-linear vibrations of an elastic two-story structure with two liquid tanks installed under horizontal harmonic excitation. The influence of the configuration of the two rectangular tanks on the response of the structure is investigated. In the theoretical analysis, Galerkin's method is applied to derive the equations of motion for the structure and the modal equations for sloshing, while considering the non-linear liquid forces. Then, van der Pol's method is used to determine the frequency response curves. Three cases are investigated: In the first case two tanks are installed, one on the top and one on the second story of the structure, in the second case one tank is installed on top, and in the third case two tanks are installed on top. The theoretical results of the first case are compared with those of the second and third cases. In the numerical calculations, it is found that Hopf bifurcations occur near the tuning frequency and then amplitude modulated motion appears in both the first and third cases. It is thus concluded that multiple tanks yield less effectiveness in suppressing the vibrations of the structure. The experimental data confirm the validity of the theoretical results for the first and third cases.  相似文献

本文针对含有自激励, 参数激励和外激励等三种激励联合作用下van der Pol-Mathieu方程的周期响应和准周期运动进行分析, 发现其准周期运动的频谱中含有均匀边频带这一新的特性. 首先, 采用传统的增量谐波平衡法(IHB法)分析了van der Pol-Mathieu方程的周期响应, 得到了其非线性频率响应曲线; 再利用Floquet理论对周期解进行稳定性分析, 得到了两种类型的分岔及它们的位置. 然后, 基于van der Pol-Mathieu方程准周期运动的频谱中边频带相邻频率之间是等距的且含有两个不可约的基频的特性(其中一个基频是已知的, 另一个基频事先是未知的), 推导了相应的两时间尺度IHB法, 精确计算出van der Pol-Mathieu方程的准周期运动的另一个未知基频和所有的频率成份及其对应的幅值, 尤其在临界点附近处的准周期运动响应. 得到的准周期运动结果和利用四阶龙格-库塔(RK)数值法得到的结果高度吻合. 最后, 研究发现了含外激励van der Pol-Mathieu方程在不同激励频率时的一些丰富而有趣的非线性动力学现象.   相似文献

The joint probability density function of the state space vector of a white noise exoited van der Pol oscillator satisfics a Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation. The paper describes a numerical procedure for solving the transient FPK equation based on the path integral solution (PIS) technique. It is shown that by combining the PIS with a cubic B-spline interpolation method, numerical solution algorithms can be implemented giving solutions of the FPK equation that can be made accurate down to very low probability levels. The method is illustrated by application to two specific examples of a van der Pol oscillator.  相似文献

This study focuses on a novel harmonic balance formulation, the high-dimensional harmonic balance method. To investigate a non-linearity in the damping term, the system chosen for study is the Van der Pol's oscillator. Both unforced and forced oscillators are analyzed. We propose a new version of the classical van der Waals equation of state. When this is combined with a modified Maxwell construction (replacing the logically inconsistent equal-area rule), it yields remarkably accurate boiling curves for real fluids over large temperature ranges. For the water-steam phase transition, for example, we find a calculated boiling curve which is accurate to within one percent of tabulated values over the entire temperature range 20 to 374°C, the latter being the critical temperature for water, beyond which a phase transition does not occur.   相似文献

Thermal gravity convection in a horizontal layer of compressible perfect gas heated from below and a van der Waals gas near the critical state is investigated. The characteristics of the isentropic equilibrium of a compressible medium with a van der Waals equation of state are considered. The known conditions of convection onset in the perfect and van der Waals gases are checked on the basis of a solution of the complete and linearized equations. The restrictions imposed in deriving the known formulas for the adiabatic temperature gradients used in the conditions of absence and onset of convection are discussed. The characteristics of the convective heat transfer are examined, including the causes of the heat-transfer deterioration in the near-critical medium above the hydrostatic equilibrium threshold.  相似文献

Two constitutive models that are based on the classical non-Gaussian, Kuhn-Grün probability distribution function are reviewed. It is shown that all chains of a network cell structure comprised of a finite number of identical chains in an affine deformation referred to principal axes may have the same invariant stretch, if and only if the chains are oriented initially along any of eight directions forming the diagonals of a unit cube. The 4-chain tetrahedral and the 8-chain cubic cell structures are familiar admissible models having this property. An easy derivation of the constitutive equation for the Wu and van der Giessen full-network model of initially identical chains arbitrarily oriented in the undeformed state is presented. The constitutive equations for the neo-Hookean model, the 3 -chain model, and the equivalent 4- and 8-chain models are then derived from the Wu and van der Giessen equation. The squared chain stretch of an arbitrarily directed chain averaged over a unit sphere surrounding all chains radiating from a cross-link junction as its center is determined. An average-stretch, full-network constitutive equation is then derived by approximation of the Wu and van der Giessen equation. This result, though more general in that no special chain cell morphology is introduced, is the same as the constitutive equation for the 4- and 8-chain models. Some concluding remarks on extensions to amended models are presented.  相似文献

The growth equation for weak discontinuities headed by wave fronts of arbitrary shape in a relaxing gas flow is derived along the orthogonal trajectories of the wave fronts. An explicit criteria for the growth and decay of weak discontinuities along their orthogonal trajectories is given. It is concluded that the internal relaxation processes in the flow as well as the wave front curvature both have a stabilizing effect on the tendency of the wave surface to grow into a shock in the sense that they cause the shock formation time to increase.  相似文献

The film with the thickness less than 100 nm is driven by an external force and under the influence of the van der Waals forces. The results show that, when the relative film thickness decreases, the curvature of the fibre depresses the development of the linear perturbations, whereas the van der Waals forces promote the instabilities. This competition results in a non-monotonous dependence of the growth rate on the relative film thickness. The critical curves are also obtained to describe the transition from the absolute instability to the convective instability, indicating that the van der Waals forces can enlarge the absolutely unstable region. Furthermore, the surface tension can cause the development of the absolute instability, whereas the external force has an opposite effect.  相似文献

Off-road terrain can often be regarded as a finite thickness ground consisting of a soft soil layer on a rigid base. Experiments for the traveling performance of a wheel in a dense sand layer on a rigid base revealed that as the soil layer thickness decreases under the condition of high constant slip, the drawbar pull does not increase monotonically but increases gradually to a maximal value, then decreases to a minimal value, and thereafter again increases rapidly to the highest value at zero soil layer thickness. The mechanical interpretation of the relationship between the drawbar pull and the soil layer thickness is given qualitatively from the aspects of the shear characteristics of dense sand and the rigid-body friction between the wheel and the rigid base of the soil layer. It is indicated that the relationship takes the same form as van der Waals' state equation for the pressure and the volume of an imperfect gas with a phase transition between gas and liquid. The equation representing the relationship of the drawbar pull to the soil layer thickness is proposed in accordance with van der Waals' equation.  相似文献

气液相界面运动的研究无论是在科学还是工程领域都是非常重要的. 其中, 非平衡流动的计算尤其受到关注. 基于此, 我们构造了捕捉气液相界面的统一气体动理学格式. 由于统一气体动理学格式将自由输运和粒子碰撞耦合起来更新宏观物理量和微观分布函数, 故而可以求解非平衡流动. 具体思路是, 通过将范德瓦尔斯状态方程所表达的非理想气体效应引入统一气体动理学格式之中来捕捉气液相界面, 两相的分离与共存通过范德瓦尔斯状态方程描述. 由于流体在椭圆区域是不稳定的, 因此气液相界面可以通过蒸发和凝结过程自动捕捉. 如此, 一个锋锐的相界面便可以通过数值耗散和相变而得到. 利用该方法得到麦克斯韦等面积律(Maxwell construction)对应的数值解, 并与其相应的理论解相比较, 二者符合良好. 而后, 通过对范德瓦尔斯状态方程所描述的液滴表面张力进行数值计算, 验证了Laplace定理. 此外, 通过模拟两个液滴的碰撞融合过程, 进一步证明了该格式的有效性. 但是, 由于范德瓦尔斯状态方程的特性, 其所构造的格式仅适用于液/气两相密度比小于5的情况.   相似文献

多尺度法是为解决含小参数系统发展起来的应用最广泛的摄动法之一. 在求解高阶近 似方程时,多尺度法一般只求特解. 用多尺度法求解van der Pol 方程的三阶解时 将出现矛盾. 以van der Pol方程为例,证明了忽略一阶修正量中的一阶谐波 项使得混合偏导数不能交换顺序,从而导致了多尺度法的二义性和另一个数学矛盾. 在求解一阶修正量时采用含有一阶谐波项的全解,消除了二义性和该矛盾. 该 方法所求得的近似解与数值解进行了比较,结果非常吻合,验证了其合理性.  相似文献

A van der Pol type system with delayed feedback is explored by employing the two variable expansion perturbation method. The perturbation scheme is based on choosing a critical value for the delay corresponding to a Hopf bifurcation in the unperturbed ε=0 system. The resulting amplitude–delay relation predicts two Hopf bifurcation curves, such that in the region between these two curves oscillations will be quenched. The perturbation results are verified by comparison with numerical integration.  相似文献

In this paper the primary resonance of van der Pol (VDP) oscillator with fractional-order derivative is studied analytically and numerically. At first the approximately analytical solution is obtained by the averaging method, and it is found that the fractional-order derivative could affect the dynamical properties of VDP oscillator, which is characterized by the equivalent damping coefficient and the equivalent stiffness coefficient. Moreover, the amplitude–frequency equation for steady-state solution is established, and the corresponding stability condition is also presented based on Lyapunov theory. Then, the comparisons of several different amplitude–frequency curves by the approximately analytical solution and the numerical integration are fulfilled, and the results certify the correctness and satisfactory precision of the approximately analytical solution. At last, the effects of the two fractional parameters, i.e., the fractional coefficient and the fractional order, on the amplitude–frequency curves are investigated for some typical excitation amplitudes, which are different from the traditional integer-order VDP oscillator.  相似文献

The response of a system of two nonlinearly coupled van der Poloscillators to a principal parametric excitation in the presence ofone-to-one internal resonance is investigated. The asymptoticperturbation method is applied to derive the slow flow equationsgoverning the modulation of the amplitudes and the phases of the twooscillators. These equations are used to determine steady-stateresponses, corresponding to a periodic motion for the starting system(synchronisation), and parametric excitation-response andfrequency-response curves. Energy considerations are used to studyexistence and characteristics of limit cycles of the slow flowequations. A limit cycle corresponds to a two-period amplitude- andphase-modulated motion for the van der Pol oscillators. Two-periodmodulated motion is also possible for very low values of the parametricexcitation and an approximate analytic solution is constructed for thiscase. If the parametric excitation increases, the oscillation period ofthe modulations becomes infinite and an infinite-period bifurcationsoccur. Analytical results are checked with numerical simulations.  相似文献

This study investigates the dynamics of flocculation and transport of solid particles suspended in a liquid propellant. Polydisperse particles with lognormal size distribution are considered. Collision of particles is presumed to be controlled by upward velocity differential and Brownian motion. These mechanisms are enhanced by the van der Waals force. Flocculation of the particles is described using the continuous form of the Smoluchowski equation. Upward transport of the particles is specified via a convection term. The general dynamics of the system is governed by a nonlinear transient partial integro-differential equation which is solved numerically. The technique employed is based on discretizing the size distribution function using orthogonal collocation on finite elements. This is combined with a finite difference discretization of the physical domain, and an explicit Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg time marching scheme. The numerical analysis is validated by comparing with a closed form analytical solution. The simulation results represent the particle size distribution as a function of time and position. The method allows prediction of the effects of the initial conditions and physical properties of the suspension on its dynamic behavior and phase separation.  相似文献
