High‐valent cobalt‐oxo intermediates are proposed as reactive intermediates in a number of cobalt‐complex‐mediated oxidation reactions. Herein we report the spectroscopic capture of low‐spin (S=1/2) CoIV‐oxo species in the presence of redox‐inactive metal ions, such as Sc3+, Ce3+, Y3+, and Zn2+, and the investigation of their reactivity in C? H bond activation and sulfoxidation reactions. Theoretical calculations predict that the binding of Lewis acidic metal ions to the cobalt‐oxo core increases the electrophilicity of the oxygen atom, resulting in the redox tautomerism of a highly unstable [(TAML)CoIII(O.)]2? species to a more stable [(TAML)CoIV(O)(Mn+)] core. The present report supports the proposed role of the redox‐inactive metal ions in facilitating the formation of high‐valent metal–oxo cores as a necessary step for oxygen evolution in chemistry and biology.  相似文献

Mononuclear metal–dioxygen species are key intermediates that are frequently observed in the catalytic cycles of dioxygen activation by metalloenzymes and their biomimetic compounds. In this work, a side‐on cobalt(III)–peroxo complex bearing a macrocyclic N‐tetramethylated cyclam (TMC) ligand, [CoIII(15‐TMC)(O2)]+, was synthesized and characterized with various spectroscopic methods. Upon protonation, this cobalt(III)–peroxo complex was cleanly converted into an end‐on cobalt(III)–hydroperoxo complex, [CoIII(15‐TMC)(OOH)]2+. The cobalt(III)–hydroperoxo complex was further converted to [CoIII(15‐TMC‐CH2‐O)]2+ by hydroxylation of a methyl group of the 15‐TMC ligand. Kinetic studies and 18O‐labeling experiments proposed that the aliphatic hydroxylation occurred via a CoIV–oxo (or CoIII–oxyl) species, which was formed by O? O bond homolysis of the cobalt(III)–hydroperoxo complex. In conclusion, we have shown the synthesis, structural and spectroscopic characterization, and reactivities of mononuclear cobalt complexes with peroxo, hydroperoxo, and oxo ligands.  相似文献

The synthesis, structural characterization, and reactivity of the first two‐coordinate cobalt complex featuring a metal–element multiple bond [(IPr)Co(NDmp)] ( 4 ; IPr=1,3‐bis(2′,6′‐diisopropylphenyl)imidazole‐2‐ylidene; Dmp=2,6‐dimesitylphenyl) is reported. Complex 4 was prepared from the reaction of [(IPr)Co(η2‐vtms)2] (vtms=vinyltrimethylsilane) with DmpN3. An X‐ray diffraction study revealed its linear C? Co? N core and a short Co? N distance (1.691(6) Å). Spectroscopic characterization and calculation studies indicated the high‐spin nature of 4 and the multiple‐bond character of the Co? N bond. Complex 4 effected group‐transfer reactions to CO and ethylene to form isocyanide and imine, respectively. It also facilitated E? H (E=C, Si) σ‐bond activation of terminal alkyne and hydrosilanes to produce the corresponding cobalt(II) alkynyl and cobalt(II) hydride complexes as 1,2‐addition products.  相似文献

A mononuclear nonheme cobalt(III) iodosylbenzene complex, [CoIII(TQA)(OIPh)(OH)]2+ ( 1 ), is synthesized and characterized structurally and spectroscopically. While 1 is a sluggish oxidant in oxidation reactions, it becomes a competent oxidant in oxygen atom transfer reactions, such as olefin epoxidation, in the presence of a small amount of proton. More interestingly, 1 shows a nucleophilic reactivity in aldehyde deformylation reaction, demonstrating that 1 has an amphoteric reactivity. Another interesting observation is that 1 can be used as an oxygen atom donor in the generation of high‐valent metal‐oxo complexes. To our knowledge, we present the first crystal structure of a CoIII iodosylbenzene complex and the unprecedented reactivity of metal‐iodosylarene adduct.  相似文献

Three new iron(II)‐benzilate complexes [(N4Py)FeII(benzilate)]ClO4 ( 1 ), [(N4PyMe2)FeII(benzilate)]ClO4 ( 2 ) and [(N4PyMe4)FeII(benzilate)]ClO4 ( 3 ) of neutral pentadentate nitrogen donor ligands have been isolated and characterized to study their dioxygen reactivity. Single‐crystal X‐ray structures reveal a mononuclear six‐coordinate iron(II) center in each case, where benzilate binds to the iron center in monodentate mode via one carboxylate oxygen. Introduction of methyl groups in the 6‐positions of the pyridine rings makes the N4PyMe2 and N4PyMe4 ligand fields weaker compared to that of the parent N4Py ligand. All the complexes ( 1 – 3 ) react with dioxygen to decarboxylate the coordinated benzilate to benzophenone quantitatively. The decarboxylation is faster for the complex of the more sterically hindered ligand and follows the order 3 > 2 > 1 . The complexes display oxygen atom transfer reactivity to thioanisole and also exhibit hydrogen atom transfer reactions with substrates containing weak C?H bonds. Based on interception studies with external substrates, labelling experiments and Hammett analysis, a nucleophilic iron(II)‐hydroperoxo species is proposed to form upon two‐electron reductive activation of dioxygen by each iron(II)‐benzilate complex. The nucleophilic oxidants are converted to the corresponding electrophilic iron(IV)‐oxo oxidant upon treatment with a protic acid. The high‐spin iron(II)‐benzilate complex with the weakest ligand field results in the formation of a more reactive iron‐oxygen oxidant.  相似文献

Hydroxylation of mesitylene by a nonheme manganese(IV)–oxo complex, [(N4Py)MnIV(O)]2+ ( 1 ), proceeds via one‐step hydrogen‐atom transfer (HAT) with a large deuterium kinetic isotope effect (KIE) of 3.2(3) at 293 K. In contrast, the same reaction with a triflic acid‐bound manganese(IV)‐oxo complex, [(N4Py)MnIV(O)]2+‐(HOTf)2 ( 2 ), proceeds via electron transfer (ET) with no KIE at 293 K. Interestingly, when the reaction temperature is lowered to less than 263 K in the reaction of 2 , however, the mechanism changes again from ET to HAT with a large KIE of 2.9(3). Such a switchover of the reaction mechanism from ET to HAT is shown to occur by changing only temperature in the boundary region between ET and HAT pathways when the driving force of ET from toluene derivatives to 2 is around ?0.5 eV. The present results provide a valuable and general guide to predict a switchover of the reaction mechanism from ET to the others, including HAT.  相似文献

Novel 4,4′‐dichloro‐2,2′‐[ethylenedioxybis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenol (H2L) and its complexes [CuL] and {[CoL(THF)]2(OAc)2Co} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H‐NMR and X‐ray crystallography. [CuL] forms a mononuclear structure which may be stabilized by the intermolecular contacts between copper atom (Cu) and oxygen atom (O3) to form a head‐to‐tail dimer. In {[CoL(THF)]2(OAc)2Co}, two acetates coordinate to three cobalt ions through Co? O? C? O? Co bridges and four µ‐phenoxo oxygen atoms from two [CoL(THF)] units also coordinate to cobalt ions. High‐spin cobalt(II) complexes are considered useful building blocks for the synthesis of single‐molecule magnets (SMM) because of their intrinsic magnetic anisotropy. In this work, three new cobalt(II) chloride adducts with labile ligands have been synthesized from anhydrous CoCl2, to be subsequently employed as starting materials for heterobimetallic compounds. The products were characterized by elemental, spectroscopic (EPR and FT–IR) and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analyses. trans‐Tetrakis(acetonitrile‐κN )bis(tetrahydrofuran‐κO )cobalt(II) bis[(acetonitrile‐κN )trichloridocobaltate(II)], [Co(C2H3N)4(C4H8O)2][CoCl3(C2H3N)]2, (1), comprises mononuclear ions and contains both acetonitrile and tetrahydrofuran (thf) ligands, The coordination polymer catena‐poly[[tetrakis(propan‐2‐ol‐κO )cobalt(II)]‐μ‐chlorido‐[dichloridocobalt(II)]‐μ‐chlorido], [Co2Cl4(C3H8O)4], (2′), was prepared by direct reaction between anhydrous CoCl2 and propan‐2‐ol in an attempt to rationalize the formation of the CoCl2–alcohol adduct (2), probably CoCl2(HOiPr)m . The binuclear complex di‐μ‐chlorido‐1:2κ4Cl :Cl‐dichlorido‐2κ2Cl‐tetrakis(tetrahydrofuran‐1κO )dicobalt(II), [Co2Cl4(C4H8O)4], (3), was obtained from (2) after recrystallization from tetrahydrofuran. All three products present cobalt(II) centres in both octahedral and tetrahedral environments, the former usually less distorted than the latter, regardless of the nature of the neutral ligand. Product (2′) is stabilized by an intramolecular hydrogen‐bond network that appears to favour a trans arrangement of the chloride ligands in the octahedral moiety; this differs from the cis disposition found in (3). The expected easy displacement of the bound solvent molecules from the metal coordination sphere makes the three compounds good candidates for suitable starting materials in a number of synthetic applications.  相似文献

Reactions of the dimeric cobalt complex [(L?Co)2] ( 1 , L=[(2,6‐iPr2C6H3)NC(Me)]2) with polyarenes afforded a series of mononuclear and dinuclear complexes: [LCo(η4‐anthracene)] ( 2 ), [LCo(μ‐η44‐naphthalene)CoL] ( 3 ), and [LCo(μ‐η44‐phenanthrene)CoL] ( 4 ). The pyrene complexes [{Na2(Et2O)2}{LCo(μ‐η33‐pyrene)CoL}] ( 5 ) and [{Na2(Et2O)3}{LCo(η3‐pyrene)}] ( 6 ) were obtained by treating precursor 1 with pyrene followed by reduction with Na metal. These complexes contain three potential redox active centers: the cobalt metal and both α‐diimine and polyarene ligands. Through a combination of X‐ray crystallography, EPR spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility measurement, and DFT computations, the electronic configurations of these complexes were studied. It was determined that complexes 2 – 4 have a high‐spin CoI center coupled with a radical α‐diimine ligand and a neutral polyarene ligand. Whereas, the ligand L in complexes 5 and 6 has been further reduced to the dianion, the cobalt remains in a formal (I) oxidation state, and the pyrene molecule is either neutral or monoanionic.  相似文献

The 3d‐metal mediated nitrene transfer is under intense scrutiny due to its potential as an atom economic and ecologically benign way for the directed amination of (un)functionalised C?H bonds. Here we present the isolation and characterisation of a rare, trigonal imido cobalt(III) complex, which bears a rather long cobalt–imido bond. It can cleanly cleave strong C?H bonds with a bond dissociation energy of up to 92 kcal mol?1 in an intermolecular fashion, unprecedented for imido cobalt complexes. This resulted in the amido cobalt(II) complex [Co(hmds)2(NHtBu)]?. Kinetic studies on this reaction revealed an H atom transfer mechanism. Remarkably, the cobalt(II) amide itself is capable of mediating H atom abstraction or stepwise proton/electron transfer depending on the substrate. A cobalt‐mediated catalytic application for substrate dehydrogenation using an organo azide is presented.  相似文献

Structure and magnetic properties of N‐diisopropoxyphosphorylthiobenzamide PhC(S)‐N(H)‐P(O)(OiPr)2 ( HLI ) and N‐diisopropoxyphosphoryl‐N′‐phenylthiocarbamide PhN(H)‐C(S)‐N(H)‐P(O)(OiPr)2 ( HLII ) complexes with the CoII cation of formulas [Co{PhC(S)‐N‐P(O)(OiPr)2}2] ( 1 ), [Co{PhN(H)‐C(S)‐N‐P(O)(OiPr)2}2] ( 2 ), [Co{PhC(S)‐N(H)‐P(O)(OiPr)2}2{PhC(S)‐N‐P(O)(OiPr)2}2] ( 1a ) and [Co{PhC(S)‐N‐P(O)(OiPr)2}2}(2,2′‐bipy)] ( 3 ), [Co{PhC(S)‐N‐P(O)(OiPr)2}2(1,10‐phen)] ( 4 ), [Co{PhN(H)‐C(S)‐N‐P(O)(OiPr)2}2(2,2′‐bipy)] ( 5 ), [Co{PhN(H)‐C(S)‐N‐P(O)(OiPr)2}2(1,10‐phen)] ( 6 ) were investigated. Paramagnetic shifts in the 1H NMR spectrum were observed for high‐spin CoII complexes with HLI,II , incorporating the S‐C‐N‐P‐O chelate moiety and two aromatic chelate ligands. Investigation of the thermal dependence of the magnetic susceptibility has shown that the extended materials 1‐2 and 6 show ferromagnetic exchange between distorted tetrahedral ( 1 , 2 ) or octahedral ( 1a , 6 ) metal atoms whereas 3 and 5 show antiferromagnetic properties. Compound 4 behaves as a spin‐canted ferromagnet, an antiferromagnetic ordering taking place below a critical temperature, Tc = 115 K. Complexes 1 and 1a were investigated by single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The cobalt(II) atom in complex 1 resides a distorted tetrahedral O2S2 environment formed by the C=S sulfur atoms and the P=O oxygen atoms of two deprotonated ligands. Complex 1a has a tetragonal‐bipyramidal structure, Co(Oax)2(Oeq)2(Seq)2, and two neutral ligand molecules are coordinated in the axial positions through the oxygen atoms of the P=O groups. The base of the bipyramid is formed by two anionic ligands in the typical 1,5‐O,S coordination mode. The ligands are in a trans configuration.  相似文献

Two nitrilotriacetate cobalt complexes {[CoK2(NTA)(Hmta)(H2O)3]NO3}n ( 1 ) and [{Co(4,4′‐bpy)2(H2O)4}{Co2(NTA)2(4,4′‐bpy)(H2O)2}] ( 2 ) (NTA = nitrilotriacetate anion, Hmta = hexamethylenetetramine and 4,4′‐bpy = 4,4′‐bipyridine) were prepared and characterized by IR, elemental analysis and single crystal X‐ray diffraction study. The influence of the neutral ancillary ligands on the formation of the complexes with different structures in the Co‐NTA system was discussed. The coordination of NTA and Hmta to Co2+ ions only resulted in the formation of mononuclear [Co(NTA)(Hmta)]? ions which are further connected by K+ ions and water molecules to form a three‐dimensional network. The use of 4,4′‐bpy as ancillary ligand in 2 led to the formation of separate mononuclear [Co(4,4′‐bpy)2(H2O)4]2+ and dinuclear [Co2(NTA)2(4,4′‐bpy)(H2O)2]2? which are further connected by hydrogen bonds to form a supramolecular three‐dimensional network. In these cases it seems to suggest that the addition of neutral ancillary ligand into the Co‐NTA system leads to the formation of lower dimensional structures when the contribution of alkali ions to the structural dimensionality is neglected.  相似文献

The two title complexes, catena‐poly[[{2,2′‐[1,3‐propanediylbis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenolato}cobalt(III)]‐μ‐azido], [Co(C17H16N2O2)(N3)]n, (I), and catena‐poly[[{2,2′‐[1,3‐propanediylbis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenolato}cobalt(III)]‐μ‐thiocyanato], [Co(C17H16N2O2)(NCS)]n, (II), are isomorphous polynuclear cobalt(III) compounds. In both structures, the CoIII atom is six‐coordinated in an octahedral configuration by two N atoms and two O atoms of one Schiff base, and two terminal N or S atoms from two bridging ligands. The [N,N′‐bis(salicylidene)propane‐1,3‐diaminato]cobalt(III) moieties are linked by the bridging ligands, viz. azide in (I) and thiocyanate in (II), giving zigzag polymeric chains with backbones of the type [–Co—N—N—N—Co]n in (I) or [–Co—N—C—S—Co]n in (II) running along the c axis.  相似文献

A mononuclear nonheme manganese(IV)–oxo complex binding the Ce4+ ion, [(dpaq)MnIV(O)]+–Ce4+ ( 1 ‐Ce4+), was synthesized by reacting [(dpaq)MnIII(OH)]+ ( 2 ) with cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN). 1 ‐Ce4+ was characterized using various spectroscopic techniques, such as UV/Vis, EPR, CSI‐MS, resonance Raman, XANES, and EXAFS, showing an Mn?O bond distance of 1.69 Å with a resonance Raman band at 675 cm?1. Electron‐transfer and oxygen atom transfer reactivities of 1 ‐Ce4+ were found to be greater than those of MnIV(O) intermediates binding redox‐inactive metal ions ( 1 ‐Mn+). This study reports the first example of a redox‐active Ce4+ ion‐bound MnIV‐oxo complex and its spectroscopic characterization and chemical properties.  相似文献

Simple and versatile routes to the functionalization of uranyl‐derived UV–oxo groups are presented. The oxo‐lithiated, binuclear uranium(V)–oxo complexes [{(py)3LiOUO}2(L)] and [{(py)3LiOUO}(OUOSiMe3)(L)] were prepared by the direct combination of the uranyl(VI) silylamide “ate” complex [Li(py)2][(OUO)(N”)3] (N”=N(SiMe3)2) with the polypyrrolic macrocycle H4L or the mononuclear uranyl (VI) Pacman complex [UO2(py)(H2L)], respectively. These oxo‐metalated complexes display distinct U? O single and multiple bonding patterns and an axial/equatorial arrangement of oxo ligands. Their ready availability allows the direct functionalization of the uranyl oxo group leading to the binuclear uranium(V) oxo–stannylated complexes [{(R3Sn)OUO}2(L)] (R=nBu, Ph), which represent rare examples of mixed uranium/tin complexes. Also, uranium–oxo‐group exchange occurred in reactions with [TiCl(OiPr)3] to form U‐O? C bonds [{(py)3LiOUO}(OUOiPr)(L)] and [(iPrOUO)2(L)]. Overall, these represent the first family of uranium(V) complexes that are oxo‐functionalised by Group 14 elements.  相似文献

Three new metal–nitroxide complexes {[Ni(NIT4Py)2(obb)(H2O)2] · 1.5H2O}n ( 1 ), {[Co(NIT4Py)2(obb)(H2O)2] · 2H2O}n ( 2 ), and [Co(IM4Py)2(obb)2(H2O)2][Co(IM4Py)2(H2O)4] · 10H2O ( 3 ) with the V‐shaped 4,4′‐oxybis(benzoate) [NIT4Py = 2‐(4′‐pyridyl)‐4,4,5,5‐tetramethylimidazoline‐1‐oxyl‐3‐oxide, IM4Py = 2‐(4′‐pyridyl)‐4,4,5,5‐tetramethylimidazoline‐1‐oxide, and obb = 4, 4′‐oxybis(benzoate) anion] were synthesized and structurally characterized. Single‐crystal X‐ray analyses indicate that complexes 1 and 2 crystallize in neutral one‐dimensional (1D) zigzag chains, in which the nitroxide–metal–nitroxide units are linked by the V‐shaped 4,4′‐oxybis(benzoate) anions, whereas complex 3 consists of isolated mononuclear [Co(IM4Py)2(obb)2(H2O)2]2– anions and [Co(IM4Py)2(H2O)4]2+ ions. Magnetic measurements show that complexes 1 and 2 both exhibit weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the metal ions and the nitroxides.  相似文献

trans‐Diaquabis(isoquinoline‐1‐carboxylato‐κ2N,O)cobalt(II) dihydrate, [Co(C10H6NO2)2(H2O)2]·2H2O, and trans‐diaquabis(isoquinoline‐1‐carboxylato‐κ2N,O)nickel(II) dihydrate, [Ni(C10H6NO2)2(H2O)2]·2H2O, contain the same isoquinoline ligand, with both metal atoms residing on a centre of symmetry and having the same distorted octahedral coordination. In the former complex, the Co—O(water) bond length in the axial direction is 2.167 (2) Å, which is longer than the Co—O(carboxylate) and Co—N bond lengths in the equatorial plane [2.055 (2) and 2.096 (2) Å, respectively]. In the latter complex, the corresponding bond lengths for Ni—O(water), Ni—O(carboxylate) and Ni—N are 2.127 (2), 2.036 (2) and 2.039 (3) Å, respectively. Both crystals are stabilized by similar stacking interactions of the ligand, and also by hydrogen bonds between the hydrate and coordinated water molecules.  相似文献

The proximal axial ligand in heme iron enzymes plays an important role in tuning the reactivities of iron(IV)‐oxo porphyrin π‐cation radicals in oxidation reactions. The present study reports the effects of axial ligands in olefin epoxidation, aromatic hydroxylation, alcohol oxidation, and alkane hydroxylation, by [(tmp)+. FeIV(O)(p‐Y‐PyO)]+ ( 1 ‐Y) (tmp=meso‐tetramesitylporphyrin, p‐Y‐PyO=para‐substituted pyridine N‐oxides, and Y=OCH3, CH3, H, Cl). In all of the oxidation reactions, the reactivities of 1 ‐Y are found to follow the order 1 ‐OCH3 > 1 ‐CH3 > 1 ‐H > 1 ‐Cl; negative Hammett ρ values of ?1.4 to ?2.7 were obtained by plotting the reaction rates against the σp values of the substituents of p‐Y‐PyO. These results, as well as previous ones on the effect of anionic nucleophiles, show that iron(IV)‐oxo porphyrin π‐cation radicals bearing electron‐donating axial ligands are more reactive in oxo‐transfer and hydrogen‐atom abstraction reactions. These results are counterintuitive since iron(IV)‐oxo porphyrin π‐cation radicals are electrophilic species. Theoretical calculations of anionic and neutral ligands reproduced the counterintuitive experimental findings and elucidated the root cause of the axial ligand effects. Thus, in the case of anionic ligands, as the ligand becomes a better electron donor, it strengthens the FeO? H bond and thereby enhances its H‐abstraction activity. In addition, it weakens the Fe?O bond and encourages oxo‐transfer reactivity. Both are Bell–Evans–Polanyi effects, however, in a series of neutral ligands like p‐Y‐PyO, there is a relatively weak trend that appears to originate in two‐state reactivity (TSR). This combination of experiment and theory enabled us to elucidate the factors that control the reactivity patterns of iron(IV)‐oxo porphyrin π‐cation radicals in oxidation reactions and to resolve an enigmatic and fundamental problem.  相似文献
