The methanol to olefins conversion over zeolite catalysts is a commercialized process to produce light olefins like ethene and propene but its mechanism is not well understood. We herein investigated the formation of ethene in the methanol to olefins reaction over the H‐ZSM‐5 zeolite. Three types of ethylcyclopentenyl carbocations, that is, the 1‐methyl‐3‐ethylcyclopentenyl, the 1,4‐dimethyl‐3‐ethylcyclopentenyl, and the 1,5‐dimethyl‐3‐ethylcyclopentenyl cation were unambiguously identified under working conditions by both solid‐state and liquid‐state NMR spectroscopy as well as GC‐MS analysis. These carbocations were found to be well correlated to ethene and lower methylbenzenes (xylene and trimethylbenzene). An aromatics‐based paring route provides rationale for the transformation of lower methylbenzenes to ethene through ethylcyclopentenyl cations as the key hydrocarbon‐pool intermediates.  相似文献

Surface methoxy species bound to an extra‐framework Al (SMS‐EFAL) was unambiguously identified by advanced 13C‐{27Al} double‐resonance solid‐state NMR technique in the methanol‐to‐olefins reaction on H‐ZSM‐5 zeolite. The high reactivity of the SMS‐EFAL leads to the formation of surface ethoxy species and ethanol as the key intermediates for ethene generation in the early reaction stage. A direct route for the initial C?C bond formation in ethene was proposed and corroborated by density functional theory calculations.  相似文献

Over zeolite H‐ZSM‐5, the aromatics‐based hydrocarbon‐pool mechanism of methanol‐to‐olefins (MTO) reaction was studied by GC‐MS, solid‐state NMR spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations. Isotopic‐labeling experimental results demonstrated that polymethylbenzenes (MBs) are intimately correlated with the formation of olefin products in the initial stage. More importantly, three types of cyclopentenyl cations (1,3‐dimethylcyclopentenyl, 1,2,3‐trimethylcyclopentenyl, and 1,3,4‐trimethylcyclopentenyl cations) and a pentamethylbenzenium ion were for the first time identified by solid‐state NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations under both co‐feeding ([13C6]benzene and methanol) conditions and typical MTO working (feeding [13C]methanol alone) conditions. The comparable reactivity of the MBs (from xylene to tetramethylbenzene) and the carbocations (trimethylcyclopentenyl and pentamethylbenzium ions) in the MTO reaction was revealed by 13C‐labeling experiments, evidencing that they work together through a paring mechanism to produce propene. The paring route in a full aromatics‐based catalytic cycle was also supported by theoretical DFT calculations.  相似文献

Zeolites catalyzed methanol‐to‐olefins (MTO) conversion provides an alternative process to produce light olefins such as ethene and propene from nonpetroleum resources. Despite of successful industrialization of the MTO process, its detailed reaction mechanism is not yet well understood. Here we summarize our work on the hydrocarbon pool reaction mechanism based on theoretical calculations. We proposed that the olefins themselves are likely to be the dominating hydrocarbon pool species, and the distribution of cracking precursors and diffusion constraints affect the selectivity. The similarities between aromatic‐based and olefin‐based cycles are highlighted.  相似文献

Hydrocarbon‐pool chemistry is important in methanol to olefins (MTO) conversion on acidic zeolite catalysts. The hydrocarbon‐pool (HP) species, such as methylbenzenes and cyclic carbocations, confined in zeolite channels during the reaction are essential in determining the reaction pathway. Herein, we experimentally demonstrate the formation of supramolecular reaction centers composed of organic hydrocarbon species and the inorganic zeolite framework in H‐ZSM‐5 zeolite by advanced 13C–27Al double‐resonance solid‐state NMR spectroscopy. Methylbenzenes and cyclic carbocations located near Brønsted acid/base sites form the supramolecular reaction centers in the zeolite channel. The internuclear spatial interaction/proximity between the 13C nuclei (associated with HP species) and the 27Al nuclei (associated with Brønsted acid/base sites) determines the reactivity of the HP species. The closer the HP species are to the zeolite framework Al, the higher their reactivity in the MTO reaction.  相似文献

Non‐oxidative dehydroaromatization of methane (MDA) is a promising catalytic process for direct valorization of natural gas to liquid hydrocarbons. The application of this reaction in practical technology is hindered by a lack of understanding about the mechanism and nature of the active sites in benchmark zeolite‐based Mo/ZSM‐5 catalysts, which precludes the solution of problems such as rapid catalyst deactivation. By applying spectroscopy and microscopy, it is shown that the active centers in Mo/ZSM‐5 are partially reduced single‐atom Mo sites stabilized by the zeolite framework. By combining a pulse reaction technique with isotope labeling of methane, MDA is shown to be governed by a hydrocarbon pool mechanism in which benzene is derived from secondary reactions of confined polyaromatic carbon species with the initial products of methane activation.  相似文献

The crystal structures of 1,2,3,4,6‐penta‐O‐acetyl‐α‐d ‐mannopyranose, C16H22O11, and 2,3,4,6‐tetra‐O‐acetyl‐α‐d ‐mannopyranosyl‐(1→2)‐3,4,6‐tri‐O‐acetyl‐α‐d ‐mannopyranosyl‐(1→3)‐1,2,4,6‐tetra‐O‐acetyl‐α‐d ‐mannopyranose, C40H54O27, were determined and compared to those of methyl 2,3,4,6‐tetra‐O‐acetyl‐α‐d ‐mannopyranoside, methyl α‐d ‐mannopyranoside and methyl α‐d ‐mannopyranosyl‐(1→2)‐α‐d ‐mannopyranoside to evaluate the effects of O‐acetylation on bond lengths, bond angles and torsion angles. In general, O‐acetylation exerts little effect on the exo‐ and endocyclic C—C and endocyclic C—O bond lengths, but the exocyclic C—O bonds involved in O‐acetylation are lengthened by ~0.02 Å. The conformation of the O‐acetyl side‐chains is highly conserved, with the carbonyl O atom either eclipsing the H atom attached to a 2°‐alcoholic C atom or bisecting the H—C—H bond angle of a 1°‐alcoholic C atom. Of the two C—O bonds that determine O‐acetyl side‐chain conformation, that involving the alcoholic C atom exhibits greater rotational variability than that involving the carbonyl C atom. These findings are in good agreement with recent solution NMR studies of O‐acetyl side‐chain conformations in saccharides. Experimental evidence was also obtained to confirm density functional theory (DFT) predictions of C—O and O—H bond‐length behavior in a C—O—H fragment involved in hydrogen bonding.  相似文献

The catalytic activity of large zeolite H‐ZSM‐5 crystals in methanol (MTO) and ethanol‐to‐olefins (ETO) conversions was investigated and, using operando UV/Vis measurements, the catalytic activity and deactivation was correlated with the formation of coke. These findings were related to in situ single crystal UV/Vis and confocal fluorescence micro‐spectroscopy, allowing the observation of the spatiotemporal formation of intermediates and coke species during the MTO and ETO conversions. It was observed that rapid deactivation at elevated temperatures was due to the fast formation of aromatics at the periphery of the H‐ZSM‐5 crystals, which are transformed into more poly‐aromatic coke species at the external surface, preventing the diffusion of reactants and products into and out of the H‐ZSM‐5 crystal. Furthermore, we were able to correlate the operando UV/Vis spectroscopy results observed during catalytic testing with the single crystal in situ results.  相似文献

Ethanol, through the utilization of bioethanol as a chemical resource, has received considerable industrial attention as it provides an alternative route to produce more valuable hydrocarbons. Using a density functional theory approach incorporating the M06‐L functional, which includes dispersion interactions, a large 34T nanocluster model of Fe‐ZSM‐5 zeolite in which T is a Si or Al atom is employed to examine both the stepwise and concerted mechanisms of the transformation of ethanol into ethene. For the stepwise mechanism, ethanol dehydration commences from the first hydrogen abstraction of the ethanol OH group to form the ethoxide‐hydroxide intermediate with a low activation energy of 17.7 kcal mol?1. Consequently, the ethoxide‐hydroxide intermediate is decomposed into ethene through hydrogen abstraction from the ethoxide methyl carbon to either the OH group of hydroxide or the oxygen of the ethoxide group with high activation energies of 64.8 and 63.5 kcal mol?1, respectively. For the concerted mechanism, ethanol transformation into the ethene product occurs in a single step without intermediate formation, with an activation energy of 32.9 kcal mol?1.  相似文献

The catalytic, deactivation, and regeneration characteristics of large coffin‐shaped H‐ZSM‐5 crystals were investigated during the methanol‐to‐hydrocarbons (MTH) reaction at 350 and 500 °C. Online gas‐phase effluent analysis and examination of retained material thereof were used to explore the bulk properties of large coffin‐shaped zeolite H‐ZSM‐5 crystals in a fixed‐bed reactor to introduce them as model catalysts for the MTH reaction. These findings were related to observations made at the individual particle level by using polarization‐dependent UV‐visible microspectroscopy and mass spectrometric techniques after reaction in an in situ microspectroscopy reaction cell. Excellent agreement between the spectroscopic measurements and the analysis of hydrocarbon deposits by means of retained hydrocarbon analysis and time‐of‐flight secondary‐ion mass spectrometry of spent catalyst materials was observed. The obtained data reveal a shift towards more condensed coke deposits on the outer zeolite surface at higher reaction temperatures. Zeolites in the fixed‐bed reactor setup underwent more coke deposition than those reacted in the in situ microspectroscopy reaction cell. Regeneration studies of the large zeolite crystals were performed by oxidation in O2/inert gas mixtures at 550 °C. UV‐visible microspectroscopic measurements using the oligomerization of styrene derivatives as probe reaction indicated that the fraction of strong acid sites decreased during regeneration. This change was accompanied by a slight decrease in the initial conversion obtained after regeneration. H‐ZSM‐5 deactivated more rapidly at higher reaction temperature.  相似文献

Dual‐mesoporous ZSM‐5 zeolite with highly b axis oriented large mesopores was synthesized by using nonionic copolymer F127 and cationic surfactant CTAB as co‐templates. The product contains two types of mesopores—smaller wormlike ones of 3.3 nm in size and highly oriented larger ones of 30–50 nm in diameter along the b axis—and both of them interpenetrate throughout the zeolite crystals and interconnect with zeolite microporosity. The dual‐mesoporous zeolite exhibits excellent catalytic performance in the condensation of benzaldehyde with ethanol and greater than 99 % selectivity for benzoin ethyl ether at room temperature, which can be ascribed to the zeolite lattice structure offering catalytically active sites and the hierarchical and oriented mesoporous structure providing fast access of reactants to these sites in the catalytic reaction. The excellent recyclability and high catalytic stability of the catalyst suggest prospective applications of such unique mesoporous zeolites in the chemical industry.  相似文献

o‐Quinone amines, which are relevant to various biological processes, can undergo spontaneous intramolecular cyclization (ring closure reaction by amino‐terminated hydrocarbon side chain) that deactivates them toward another possible reactions, that is, thiol binding. Density functional theory‐based calculation is employed for obtaining the potential energy curves along the C? N bond formation in the intramolecular cyclization of various o‐quinone amines, viz., dopaminequinone, dopaquinone, N‐methyl‐dopaminequinone, N‐formyl‐dopaminequinone, and the corresponding methylene‐inserted analogues. The activation barrier is decreased by introduction of α‐carboxylate and N‐methyl group whereas increased by introduction of N‐formyl group. A negative correlation between the activation barriers and the level of highest occupied molecular orbital is pointed out. Furthermore, the methylene‐inserted analogues show decreased activation barriers. This is explained by reduction of steric repulsion in the transition state.  相似文献

The nature behind the promotional effect of phosphorus on the catalytic performance and hydrothermal stability of zeolite H‐ZSM‐5 has been studied using a combination of 27Al and 31P MAS NMR spectroscopy, soft X‐ray absorption tomography and n‐hexane catalytic cracking, complemented with NH3 temperature‐programmed desorption and N2 physisorption. Phosphated H‐ZSM‐5 retains more acid sites and catalytic cracking activity after steam treatment than its non‐phosphated counterpart, while the selectivity towards propylene is improved. It was established that the stabilization effect is twofold. First, the local framework silico‐aluminophosphate (SAPO) interfaces, which form after phosphatation, are not affected by steam and hold aluminum atoms fixed in the zeolite lattice, preserving the pore structure of zeolite H‐ZSM‐5. Second, the four‐coordinate framework aluminum can be forced into a reversible sixfold coordination by phosphate. These species remain stationary in the framework under hydrothermal conditions as well. Removal of physically coordinated phosphate after steam‐treatment leads to an increase in the number of strong acid sites and increased catalytic activity. We propose that the improved selectivity towards propylene during catalytic cracking can be attributed to local SAPO interfaces located at channel intersections, where they act as impediments in the formation of bulky carbenium ions and therefore suppress the bimolecular cracking mechanism.  相似文献

After a prolonged effort over many years, the route for the formation of a direct carbon?carbon (C?C) bond during the methanol‐to‐hydrocarbon (MTH) process has very recently been unveiled. However, the relevance of the “direct mechanism”‐derived molecules (that is, methyl acetate) during MTH, and subsequent transformation routes to the conventional hydrocarbon pool (HCP) species, are yet to be established. This important piece of the MTH chemistry puzzle is not only essential from a fundamental perspective, but is also important to maximize catalytic performance. The MTH process was probed over a commercially relevant H‐SAPO‐34 catalyst, using a combination of advanced solid‐state NMR spectroscopy and operando UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy coupled to an on‐line mass spectrometer. Spectroscopic evidence is provided for the formation of (olefinic and aromatic) HCP species, which are indeed derived exclusively from the direct C?C bond‐containing acetyl group of methyl acetate. New mechanistic insights have been obtained from the MTH process, including the identification of hydrocarbon‐based co‐catalytic organic reaction centers.  相似文献

Although industrialized, the mechanism for catalytic upgrading of bioethanol over solid‐acid catalysts (that is, the ethanol‐to‐hydrocarbons (ETH) reaction) has not yet been fully resolved. Moreover, mechanistic understanding of the ETH reaction relies heavily on its well‐known “sister‐reaction” the methanol‐to‐hydrocarbons (MTH) process. However, the MTH process possesses a C1‐entity reactant and cannot, therefore, shed any light on the homologation reaction sequence. The reaction and deactivation mechanism of the zeolite H‐ZSM‐5‐catalyzed ETH process was elucidated using a combination of complementary solid‐state NMR and operando UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, coupled with on‐line mass spectrometry. This approach establishes the existence of a homologation reaction sequence through analysis of the pattern of the identified reactive and deactivated species. Furthermore, and in contrast to the MTH process, the deficiency of any olefinic‐hydrocarbon pool species (that is, the olefin cycle) during the ETH process is also noted.  相似文献

Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) is a major process in oil refineries to produce gasoline and base chemicals from crude oil fractions. The spatial distribution and acidity of zeolite aggregates embedded within the 50–150 μm‐sized FCC spheres heavily influence their catalytic performance. Single‐molecule fluorescence‐based imaging methods, namely nanometer accuracy by stochastic chemical reactions (NASCA) and super‐resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI) were used to study the catalytic activity of sub‐micrometer zeolite ZSM‐5 domains within real‐life FCC catalyst particles. The formation of fluorescent product molecules taking place at Brønsted acid sites was monitored with single turnover sensitivity and high spatiotemporal resolution, providing detailed insight in dispersion and catalytic activity of zeolite ZSM‐5 aggregates. The results point towards substantial differences in turnover frequencies between the zeolite aggregates, revealing significant intraparticle heterogeneities in Brønsted reactivity.  相似文献

The crystal structure of methyl α‐d ‐mannopyranosyl‐(1→3)‐2‐O‐acetyl‐β‐d ‐mannopyranoside monohydrate, C15H26O12·H2O, ( II ), has been determined and the structural parameters for its constituent α‐d ‐mannopyranosyl residue compared with those for methyl α‐d ‐mannopyranoside. Mono‐O‐acetylation appears to promote the crystallization of ( II ), inferred from the difficulty in crystallizing methyl α‐d ‐mannopyranosyl‐(1→3)‐β‐d ‐mannopyranoside despite repeated attempts. The conformational properties of the O‐acetyl side chain in ( II ) are similar to those observed in recent studies of peracetylated mannose‐containing oligosaccharides, having a preferred geometry in which the C2—H2 bond eclipses the C=O bond of the acetyl group. The C2—O2 bond in ( II ) elongates by ~0.02 Å upon O‐acetylation. The phi (?) and psi (ψ) torsion angles that dictate the conformation of the internal O‐glycosidic linkage in ( II ) are similar to those determined recently in aqueous solution by NMR spectroscopy for unacetylated ( II ) using the statistical program MA′AT, with a greater disparity found for ψ (Δ = ~16°) than for ? (Δ = ~6°).  相似文献

A series of pyrrole‐containing diarylphosphine and diarylphosphine oxide ligands were prepared. The catalytic activity of the corresponding in‐situ‐generated chromium catalysts was investigated during selective ethylene oligomerization reactions. Variations in the ligand system were introduced by modifying the diarylphosphine and pyrrole moieties that affect the steric and electronic properties. Minor changes in the ligand structure and the composition of activators significantly changed the catalytic activity, selectivity toward linear alpha‐olefins (LAO) versus polyethylene (PE), and the distribution of oligomeric products. The presence of trifluoromethyl groups on the diphenyl rings in ligand 3 promoted oxidation to form the corresponding phosphine oxide structure, 3o , which dramatically enhanced the catalytic activity of ethylene trimerization. The in‐situ‐generated chromium complex based on 3o activated by DMAO (dry methylaluminoxane)/TIBA (triisobutylaluminum) was used to achieve activity of about 1250 g (mmol of Cr)−1 h−1 with 98.5 mol % 1‐hexene, along with a negligible amount of PE side product. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new series of multiquaternary ammonium structure‐directing agents, based on 1,4‐diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, was prepared. ZSM‐5 zeolites with nanosheet morphology (10 nm crystal thickness) were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions using multiquaternary ammonium surfactants as the zeolite structure‐generating agents. Both wide‐angle and small‐angle diffraction patterns were obtained using only a suitable structure‐directing agent under a specific zeolite synthesis composition. A mechanism of zeolite formation is proposed based on the results obtained from various physicochemical characterizations. ZSM‐5 materials were investigated in catalytic reactions requiring medium to strong acidity, which are important for the synthesis of a wide range of industrially important fine and specialty chemicals. The catalytic activity of ZSM‐5 materials was compared with that of the conventional ZSM‐5 and amorphous mesoporous aluminosilicate Al‐MCM‐41. The synthesis strategy of the present investigation using the new series of structure‐directing agents could be extended for the synthesis of other related zeolites or other porous materials in the future. Zeolite with a structural feature as small as the size of a unit cell (5–10 nm) with hierarchically ordered porous structure would be very promising for catalysis.  相似文献

The methylation of ethene, propene, and trans‐2‐butene on zeolites H‐ZSM‐58 (DDR), H‐ZSM‐22 (TON), and H‐ZSM‐5 (MFI) is studied to elucidate the particular influence of topology on the kinetics of zeolite‐catalyzed reactions. H‐ZSM‐58 and H‐ZSM‐22 are found to display overall lower methylation rates compared to H‐ZSM‐5 and also different trends in methylation rates with increasing alkene size. These variations may be rationalized based on a decomposition of the free‐energy barriers into enthalpic and entropic contributions, which reveals that the lower methylation rates on H‐ZSM‐58 and H‐ZSM‐22 have virtually opposite reasons. On H‐ZSM‐58, the lower methylation rates are caused by higher enthalpy barriers, owing to inefficient stabilization of the reaction intermediates in the large cage‐like pores. On the other hand, on H‐ZSM‐22, the methylation rates mostly suffer from higher entropy barriers, because excessive entropy losses are incurred inside the narrow‐channel structure. These results show that the kinetics of crucial elementary steps hinge on the balance between proper stabilization of the reaction intermediates inside the zeolite pores and the resulting entropy losses. These fundamental insights into their inner workings are indispensable for ultimately selecting or designing better zeolite catalysts.  相似文献
