We prove that an isometry T between open subgroups of the invertible groups of unital Banach algebras A and B is extended to a real-linear isometry up to translation between these Banach algebras. While a unital isometry between unital semisimple commutative Banach algebras need not be multiplicative, we prove in this paper that if A is commutative and A or B are semisimple, then (T(eA))−1T is extended to an isometric real algebra isomorphism from A onto B. In particular, A−1 is isometric as a metric space to B−1 if and only if they are isometrically isomorphic to each other as metrizable groups if and only if A is isometrically isomorphic to B as a real Banach algebra; it is compared by the example of ?elazko concerning on non-isomorphic Banach algebras with the homeomorphically isomorphic invertible groups. Isometries between open subgroups of the invertible groups of unital closed standard operator algebras on Banach spaces are investigated and their general forms are given.  相似文献

We prove that if A is a complex, unital semisimple Banach algebra and B is a complex, unital Banach algebra having a separating family of finite-dimensional irreducible representations, then any unital linear operator from A onto B which preserves the spectral radius is a Jordan morphism.  相似文献

LetA denote a unital Banach algebra, and letB denote aC *-algebra which is contained as a unital subalgebra inA. We prove thatB is inverse closed inA if the norms ofA andB coincide. This generalizes well known result about inverse closedness ofC *-subalgebras inC *-algebras.  相似文献

We prove that, for every natural number n, there exists a unital semisimple Banach star algebra Aand a closed star subalgebra Bof the centre of A, different from C, such that the global B-homological dimension and the B-homological bidimension of Aare both equal to n. The algebras Aand Bcan be taken to be function algebras.  相似文献

Let A , B be two unital C*-algebras. By using fixed pint methods, we prove that every almost unital almost linear mapping h : A → B which satisfies h(2 n uy) = h(2 n u)h(y) for all u ∈ U(A), all y ∈ A, and all n = 0, 1, 2, … , is a homomorphism. Also, we establish the generalized Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of *-homomorphisms on unital C*-algebras.  相似文献

Let A be a unital separable nuclear C*-algebra which belongs to the bootstrap category N and B be a separable stable C*-algebra. In this paper, we consider the group Ext u (A, B) consisting of the unitary equivalence classes of unital extensions τ: A→Q(B). The relation between Ext u (A, B) and Ext(A, B) is established. Using this relation, we show the half-exactness of Ext u (·, B) and the (UCT) for Ext u (A, B). Furthermore, under certain conditions, we obtain the half-exactness and Bott periodicity of Ext u (A, ·).  相似文献

We describe surjective additive maps θ: A → B which preserve zero products, where A is a ring with a nontrivial idempotent and B is a prime ring. We also characterize surjective additive maps θ: A → B such that for all x, y ∈ A we have θ(x)θ(y)* = 0 if and only if xy* = 0. Here A is a unital prime ring with involution that contains a nontrivial idempotent and B is a prime ring with involution.  相似文献

Let T be a surjective map from a unital semi-simple commutative Banach algebra A onto a unital commutative Banach algebra B. Suppose that T preserves the unit element and the spectrum σ(fg) of the product of any two elements f and g in A coincides with the spectrum σ(TfTg). Then B is semi-simple and T is an isomorphism. The condition that T is surjective is essential: An example of a non-linear and non-multiplicative unital map from a commutative C*-algebra into itself such that σ(TfTg)=σ(fg) holds for every f,g are given. We also show an example of a surjective unital map from a commutative C*-algebra onto itself which is neither linear nor multiplicative such that σ(TfTg)⊂σ(fg) holds for every f,g.  相似文献

Let A be a unital separable nuclear C-algebra and let B be a stable C-algebra. Using K-theory and KK-theory we establish universal coefficient theorems for the stable Ext-groups of unital extensions of A by B when A and B have certain properties, which generalize a result of L. Brown and M. Dadarlat for the strong Ext-groups. The class of extensions being studied are also enlarged.  相似文献

Let ? be a unital prime ring with characteristic not 2 and containing a nontrivial idempotent P. It is shown that, under some mild conditions, an additive map L on ? satisfies L([A, B]) = [L(A), B] + [A, L(B)] whenever AB = 0 (resp., AB = P) if and only if it has the form L(A) = ?(A) + h(A) for all A ∈ ?, where ? is an additive derivation on ? and h is an additive map into its center.  相似文献

We study properties of the quantale spectrum MaxA of an arbitrary unital C*-algebra A. In particular we show that the spatialization of MaxA with respect to one of the notions of spatiality in the literature yields the locale of closed ideals of A when A is commutative. We study under general conditions functors with this property, in addition requiring that colimits be preserved, and we conclude in this case that the spectrum of A necessarily coincides with the locale of closed ideals of the commutative reflection of A. Finally, we address functorial properties of Max, namely studying (non-)preservation of limits and colimits. Although Max is not an equivalence of categories, therefore not providing a direct generalization of Gelfand duality to the noncommutative case, it is a faithful complete invariant of unital C*-algebras.  相似文献

Let A and B be C*-algebras. A linear map T : A → B is said to be a *-homomorphism at an element z ∈ A if ab* = z in A implies T (ab*) = T (a)T (b)* = T (z), and c*d = z in A gives T (c*d) = T (c)*T (d) = T (z). Assuming that A is unital, we prove that every linear map T : A → B which is a *-homomorphism at the unit of A is a Jordan *-homomorphism. If A is simple and infinite, then we establish that a linear map T : A → B is a *-homomorphism if and only if T is a *-homomorphism at the unit of A. For a general unital C*-algebra A and a linear map T : A → B, we prove that T is a *-homomorphism if, and only if, T is a *-homomorphism at 0 and at 1. Actually if p is a non-zero projection in A, and T is a ?-homomorphism at p and at 1 ? p, then we prove that T is a Jordan *-homomorphism. We also study bounded linear maps that are *-homomorphisms at a unitary element in A.  相似文献

For each non-exact C*-algebra A and infinite compact Hausdorffspace X there exists a continuous bundle B of C*-algebras onX such that the minimal tensor product bundle AB is discontinuous. The bundle B can be chosen to be unital with constant simplefibre. When X is metrizable, B can also be chosen to be separable. As a corollary, a C*-algebra A is exact if and only if A Bis continuous for all unital continuous C*-bundles B on a giveninfinite compact Hausdorff base space. The key to proving theseresults is showing that for a non-exact C*-algebra A there existsa separable unital continuous C*-bundle B on [0,1] such thatA B is continuous on [0,1] and discontinuous at 1, a counter-intuitiveresult. For a non-exact C*-algebra A and separable C*-bundleB on [0,1], the set of points of discontinuity of A B in [0,1]can be of positive Lebesgue measure, and even of measure 1.2000 Mathematics Subject Classification 46L06 (primary), 46L35(secondary).  相似文献

Let B be a Boolean ring. Any unital B-module M has a B-action given by for all . We show that any set with B-action may be represented as a subset with B-action of a unital B-module. We extend this to algebras with B-action and apply it to if-then-else algebras over Boolean algebras by viewing them as semilattices with B-action. Let X, Y be Banach modules over a C *‐algebra. We prove the Hyers–Ulam–Rassias stability of the following functional equation in Banach modules over a unital C *‐algebra: It is shown that a mapping f: XY satisfies the above functional equation and f (0) = 0 if and only if the mapping f: XY is Cauchy additive. As an application, we show that every almost linear bijection h: AB of a unital C *‐algebra A onto a unital C *‐algebra B is a C *‐algebra isomorphism when h (2d uy) = h (2d u) h (y) for all unitaries uA, all yA, and all d ∈ Z . Let L0 be a 2 × 2 diagonal self‐adjoint block operator matrix with entries A and D. If operators B and B* are added to the off diagonal zeros, certain parts of the spectrum of L0 move to the right and other parts move to the left. In this paper it is shown that, correspondingly, if B is a trace class operator M. G. Krein's spectral shift function is of constant sign on certain intervals.  相似文献

Let A be a complex unital Banach algebra. Using a connection between the spectral distance and the growth characteristics of a certain entire map into A, we derive a generalization of Gelfand’s famous power boundedness theorem. Elaborating on these ideas, with the help of a Phragm´en-Lindel¨of device for subharmonic functions, it is then shown, as the main result, that two normal elements of a C?-algebra are equal if and only if they are quasinilpotent equivalent.  相似文献
