The present article deals with existence and uniqueness results for a nonlinear evolution initial‐boundary value problem, which originates in an age‐structured cell population model introduced by Lebowitz and Rubinow (1974) describing the growth of a cell population. Cells of this population are distinguished by age a and cycle length l. In our framework, daughter and mother cells are related by a general reproduction rule that covers all known biological ones. In this paper, the cycle length l is allowed to be infinite. This hypothesis introduces some mathematical difficulties. We consider both local and nonlocal boundary conditions.  相似文献

A linear, completely nonhomogeneous, generally nonlocal, multipoint problem is investigated for a second-order ordinary integro-differential equation with generally nonsmooth coefficients, satisfying some general conditions like p-integrability and boundedness. A system of three integro-algebraic equations named the adjoint system is introduced for the solution. The solvability conditions are found by the solutions of the homogeneous adjoint system in an “alternative theorem”. A version of a Green’s functional is introduced as a special solution of the adjoint system. For the problem with a nontrivial kernel also a notion of a generalized Green’s functional is introduced by a projection operator defined on the space of solutions. It is also shown that the classical Green and Cauchy type functions are special forms of the Green’s functional. The author passed away in 2006 prior to publication of the article.  相似文献

We transfer a number of fundamental results about hypercyclic operators on locally convex spaces (due to Ansari, Bès, Bourdon, Costakis, Feldman, and Peris) to the non-locally convex situation. This answers a problem posed by A. Peris [Multi-hypercyclic operators are hypercyclic, Math. Z. 236 (2001), 779-786].

We consider a diffuse interface model for the flow of two viscous incompressible Newtonian fluids with different densities in a bounded domain in two and three space dimensions and prove existence of weak solutions for it. In contrast to earlier contributions, we study a model with a singular nonlocal free energy, which controls the Hα/2-norm of the volume fraction. We show existence of weak solutions for large times with the aid of an implicit time discretization.  相似文献

In this paper, we are concerned with a class of abstract second-order nonlocal Cauchy problem with impulsive conditions in Banach spaces. First, we study the existence of mild solutions for a class of second-order nonlocal Cauchy problem with impulsive conditions in Banach spaces on an interval [0,a]. Later, we study a couple of cases where we can establish the existence of global solutions for a class of abstract second-order nonlocal Cauchy problem with impulsive conditions in Banach spaces. We prove that under certain topological conditions on the set of universal elements of a continuous map T acting on a topological space X, that the direct sum TMg is universal, where Mg is multiplication by a generating element of a compact topological group. We use this result to characterize R+-supercyclic operators and to show that whenever T is a supercyclic operator and z1,…,zn are pairwise different non-zero complex numbers, then the operator z1T⊕?⊕znT is cyclic. The latter answers affirmatively a question of Bayart and Matheron.  相似文献

Let T be a compact disjointness preserving linear operator from C0(X) into C0(Y), where X and Y are locally compact Hausdorff spaces. We show that T can be represented as a norm convergent countable sum of disjoint rank one operators. More precisely, T = Σn δ ?hn for a (possibly finite) sequence {xn }n of distinct points in X and a norm null sequence {hn }n of mutually disjoint functions in C0(Y). It is proved that spectral radius of Vφ equals the spectral radius of Uφ, if φ is analytic or co‐analytic, and if Tφ is invertible then the spectrum of Vφ contains a closed disc and the interior of the disc consists of eigenvalues of infinite multiplicities. For Dirac-type operator D on a manifold X with a spectral boundarycondition (defined by a pseudodifferential projection), the associated heatoperator trace has an expansion in integer and half-integer powers and log-powersof t; the interest in the expansion coefficients goes back to the work of Atiyah,Patodi and Singer. In the product case considered by APS, it is known that allthe log-coefficients vanish when dim X is odd, whereas the log-coefficients atinteger powers vanish when dim X is even. We investigate here whether this partialvanishing of logarithms holds more generally. One type of result, shown forgeneral D with well-posed boundary conditions, is that a perturbation of Dby a tangential differential operator vanishing to order k on the boundaryleaves the first k log-power terms invariant (and the nonlocal power termsof the same degree are only locally perturbed). Another type of result is thatfor perturbations of the APS product case by tangential operators commuting withthe tangential part of D, all the logarithmic terms vanish when dim X is odd(whereas they can all be expected to be nonzero when dim X is even). The treatmentis based on earlier joint work with R. Seeley and a recent systematic parameter-dependentpseudodifferential boundary operator calculus, applied to the resolvent.  相似文献

As a consequence of Jensen's inequality, centered operators of probabilistic type (also called Bernstein-type operators) approximate convex functions from above. Starting from this fact, we consider several pairs of classical operators and determine, in each case, which one is better to approximate convex functions. In almost all the discussed examples, the conclusion follows from a simple argument concerning composition of operators. However, when comparing Szász-Mirakyan operators with Bernstein operators over the positive semi-axis, the result is derived from the convex ordering of the involved probability distributions. Analogous results for non-centered operators are also considered.  相似文献

Our main technical tool is a principally new property of compact narrow operators which works for a domain space without an absolutely continuous norm. It is proved that for every Köthe F-space X and for every locally convex F-space Y   the sum T1+T2T1+T2 of a narrow operator T1:X→YT1:XY and a compact narrow operator T2:X→YT2:XY is a narrow operator. This gives a positive answers to questions asked by M. Popov and B. Randrianantoanina [6, Problems 5.6 and 11.63].  相似文献
