The weighted least squares problem is considered. Given a generally inconsistent system of linear algebraic equations, error estimates are obtained for its weighted minimum-norm least squares solution under perturbations of the matrix and the right-hand side, including the case of rank modifications of the perturbed matrix.

The computation of an approximate solution of linear discrete ill-posed problems with contaminated data is delicate due to the possibility of severe error propagation. Tikhonov regularization seeks to reduce the sensitivity of the computed solution to errors in the data by replacing the given ill-posed problem by a nearby problem, whose solution is less sensitive to perturbation. This regularization method requires that a suitable value of the regularization parameter be chosen. Recently, Brezinski et al. (Numer Algorithms 49, 2008) described new approaches to estimate the error in approximate solutions of linear systems of equations and applied these estimates to determine a suitable value of the regularization parameter in Tikhonov regularization when the approximate solution is computed with the aid of the singular value decomposition. This paper discusses applications of these and related error estimates to the solution of large-scale ill-posed problems when approximate solutions are computed by Tikhonov regularization based on partial Lanczos bidiagonalization of the matrix. The connection between partial Lanczos bidiagonalization and Gauss quadrature is utilized to determine inexpensive bounds for a family of error estimates. In memory of Gene H. Golub. A common way to handle the Tikhonov regularization method for the first kind Fredholm integral equations, is first to discretize and then to work with the final linear system. This unavoidably inflicts discretization errors which may lead to disastrous results, especially when a quadrature rule is used. We propose to regularize directly the integral equation resulting in a continuous Tikhonov problem. The Tikhonov problem is reduced to a simple least squares problem by applying the Golub-Kahan bidiagonalization (GKB) directly to the integral operator. The regularization parameter and the iteration index are determined by the discrepancy principle approach. Moreover, we study the discrete version of the proposed method resulted from numerical evaluating the needed integrals. Focusing on the nodal values of the solution results in a weighted version of GKB-Tikhonov method for linear systems arisen from the Nyström discretization. Finally, we use numerical experiments on a few test problems to illustrate the performance of our algorithms.  相似文献

The numerical solution of linear discrete ill-posed problems typically requires regularization, i.e., replacement of the available ill-conditioned problem by a nearby better conditioned one. The most popular regularization methods for problems of small to moderate size, which allow evaluation of the singular value decomposition of the matrix defining the problem, are the truncated singular value decomposition and Tikhonov regularization. The present paper proposes a novel choice of regularization matrix for Tikhonov regularization that bridges the gap between Tikhonov regularization and truncated singular value decomposition. Computed examples illustrate the benefit of the proposed method.  相似文献

Tikhonov regularization is one of the most popular approaches to solving linear discrete ill‐posed problems. The choice of the regularization matrix may significantly affect the quality of the computed solution. When the regularization matrix is the identity, iterated Tikhonov regularization can yield computed approximate solutions of higher quality than (standard) Tikhonov regularization. This paper provides an analysis of iterated Tikhonov regularization with a regularization matrix different from the identity. Computed examples illustrate the performance of this method.  相似文献

Least squares problems arise frequently in many disciplines such as image restorations. In these areas, for the given least squares problem, usually the coefficient matrix is ill-conditioned. Thus if the problem data are available with certain error, then after solving least squares problem with classical approaches we might end up with a meaningless solution. Tikhonov regularization, is one of the most widely used approaches to deal with such situations. In this paper, first we briefly describe these approaches, then the robust optimization framework which includes the errors in problem data is presented. Finally, our computational experiments on several ill-conditioned standard test problems using the regularization tools, a Matlab package for least squares problem, and the robust optimization framework, show that the latter approach may be the right choice.  相似文献

In this work, we study and analyze the regularized weighted total least squares (RWTLS) formulation. Our regularization of the weighted total least squares problem is based on the Tikhonov regularization. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the RWTLS method.  相似文献

Linear systems of ordinary differential equations with an identically singular or rectangular matrix multiplying the derivative of the unknown vector function are numerically solved by applying the least squares method and Tikhonov regularization. The deviation of the solution of the regularized problem from the solution set of the original problem is estimated depending on the regularization parameter.  相似文献

Tikhonov regularization is one of the most popular methods for solving linear systems of equations or linear least-squares problems with a severely ill-conditioned matrix A. This method replaces the given problem by a penalized least-squares problem. The present paper discusses measuring the residual error (discrepancy) in Tikhonov regularization with a seminorm that uses a fractional power of the Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse of AA T as weighting matrix. Properties of this regularization method are discussed. Numerical examples illustrate that the proposed scheme for a suitable fractional power may give approximate solutions of higher quality than standard Tikhonov regularization.  相似文献

The perturbation analysis of weighted and constrained rank‐deficient linear least squares is difficult without the use of the augmented system of equations. In this paper a general form of the augmented system is used to get simple perturbation identities and perturbation bounds for the general linear least squares problem both for the full‐rank and rank‐deficient problem. Perturbation identities for the rank‐deficient weighted and constrained case are found as a special case. Interesting perturbation bounds and condition numbers are derived that may be useful when considering the stability of a solution of the rank‐deficient general least squares problem. The a posteriori estimate of the errors in the numerical solution of ill-conditioned linear systems with contaminated data is a complicated problem. Several estimates of the norm of the error have been recently introduced and analyzed, under the assumption that the matrix is square and nonsingular. In this paper we study the same problem in the case of a rectangular and, in general, rank-deficient matrix. As a result, a class of error estimates previously introduced by the authors (Brezinski et al., Numer Algorithms, in press, 2008) are extended to the least squares solution of consistent and inconsistent linear systems. Their application to various direct and iterative regularization methods are also discussed, and the numerical effectiveness of these error estimates is pointed out by the results of an extensive experimentation.  相似文献

We extend the Tikhonov regularization method widely used in optimization and monotone variational inequality studies to equilibrium problems. It is shown that the convergence results obtained from the monotone variational inequality remain valid for the monotone equilibrium problem. For pseudomonotone equilibrium problems, the Tikhonov regularized subproblems have a unique solution only in the limit, but any Tikhonov trajectory tends to the solution of the original problem, which is the unique solution of the strongly monotone equilibrium problem defined on the basis of the regularization bifunction.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with weighted least squares solutions to general coupled Sylvester matrix equations. Gradient based iterative algorithms are proposed to solve this problem. This type of iterative algorithm includes a wide class of iterative algorithms, and two special cases of them are studied in detail in this paper. Necessary and sufficient conditions guaranteeing the convergence of the proposed algorithms are presented. Sufficient conditions that are easy to compute are also given. The optimal step sizes such that the convergence rates of the algorithms, which are properly defined in this paper, are maximized and established. Several special cases of the weighted least squares problem, such as a least squares solution to the coupled Sylvester matrix equations problem, solutions to the general coupled Sylvester matrix equations problem, and a weighted least squares solution to the linear matrix equation problem are simultaneously solved. Several numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.  相似文献

One of the most successful methods for solving the least‐squares problem minxAx?b2 with a highly ill‐conditioned or rank deficient coefficient matrix A is the method of Tikhonov regularization. In this paper, we derive the normwise, mixed and componentwise condition numbers and componentwise perturbation bounds for the Tikhonov regularization. Our results are sharper than the known results. Some numerical examples are given to illustrate our results. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Tikhonov regularization is a popular method for the solution of linear discrete ill-posed problems with error-contaminated data. Nonstationary iterated Tikhonov regularization is known to be able to determine approximate solutions of higher quality than standard Tikhonov regularization. We investigate the choice of solution subspace in iterative methods for nonstationary iterated Tikhonov regularization of large-scale problems. Generalized Krylov subspaces are compared with Krylov subspaces that are generated by Golub–Kahan bidiagonalization and the Arnoldi process. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the methods.  相似文献

In this paper, based on the theory of adjoint operators and dual norms, we define condition numbers for a linear solution function of the weighted linear least squares problem. The explicit expressions of the normwise and componentwise condition numbers derived in this paper can be computed at low cost when the dimension of the linear function is low due to dual operator theory. Moreover, we use the augmented system to perform a componentwise perturbation analysis of the solution and residual of the weighted linear least squares problems. We also propose two efficient condition number estimators. Our numerical experiments demonstrate that our condition numbers give accurate perturbation bounds and can reveal the conditioning of individual components of the solution. Our condition number estimators are accurate as well as efficient.  相似文献
