This paper studied compressive postbuckling under thermal environments and thermal postbuckling due to a uniform temperature rise for a shear deformable laminated plate with piezoelectric fiber reinforced composite (PFRC) actuators based on a higher order shear deformation plate theory that includes thermo-piezoelectric effects. The material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and the initial geometric imperfection of the plate is considered. The compressive and thermal postbuckling behaviors of perfect, imperfect, symmetric cross-ply and antisymmetric angle-ply laminated plates with fully covered or embedded PFRC actuators are conducted under different sets of thermal and electric loading conditions. The results reveal that, the applied voltage usually has a small effect on the postbuckling load–deflection relationship of the plate with PFRC actuators in the compressive buckling case, whereas the effect of applied voltage is more pronounced for the plate with PFRC actuators, compared to the results of the same plate with monolithic piezoelectric actuators.  相似文献

Piezoelectric materials are one of the most prominent smart materials due to their strong electromechanical coupling behaviour. Ferroelectric ceramics behave like piezoelectric materials under low electrical and mechanical loads, but exhibit pronounced nonlinear response at higher loads due to microscopic domain switching. Modern smart devices consist of complex geometries that may force the ferroelectrics employed within them to experience higher fields than they were originally designed for, so that the material responds within its nonlinear region. Hence, models predicting the nonlinear effects of ferroelectrics under complex loading cases are important from the design point of view. Within standard finite element models dealing with electromechanical problems, each grain may be subdiscretized by several finite elements. This problem can be approximated or rather overcome by a polygonal finite element method, where each grain is modelled by solely one single finite element. In this contribution, a micromechanically motivated switching model for ferroelectric ceramics, as based on volume fraction concepts, is combined with polygonal finite element approach. Related representative numerical examples allow to further study and understand the nonlinear response of this material under complex loading cases. (© 2010 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Based on the first order shear deformation theory, free vibration behavior of functionally graded (FG) annular sector plates integrated with piezoelectric layers is investigated. The distribution of electric potential along the thickness direction of piezoelectric layers which is assumed to be a combination of linear and sinusoidal functions, satisfies both open and closed circuit electrical boundary conditions. Through a reformulation of governing equations and harmonic motion assumption, a novel decoupling method is suggested to transform the six second order coupled partial differential equations of motion into two eighth order and fourth order equations. A Fourier series method is then employed to present analytical solutions for free vibration of smart FG annular sector plates with simply supported radial edges and arbitrarily supported circular edges. The results, which can be used as a benchmark and suitable for design purposes, are verified with those reported in the literature. Finally, by presenting extensive ranges of frequencies, the effects of geometric parameters, power law index, FG and piezoelectric materials, electrical and mechanical boundary conditions as well as the piezoelectric layer thickness on vibration response of smart annular sector plates are discussed in detail.  相似文献

In the present work, the exact solutions for coupled analysis for bending and torsional case thin-walled functionally graded (FG) beams with non-symmetric single- and double-cells are presented for the first time. For this purpose, an accurate and efficient method is proposed to obtain the FG member stiffness matrix based on the series expansions of displacement components. Three types of material distributions are considered and the beam mechanical properties are graded along the wall thickness according to a power law of the volume fraction. The present beam model is on the basis of the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the Vlasov one for bending and torsional problems, respectively. The explicit expressions for displacement parameters are derived using the power series approach from the four coupled equilibrium equations. Finally, the FG member stiffness matrix is determined from the seven force-displacement relations. In order to show the accuracy and super convergence of the thin-walled FG beam element developed by this study, the numerical solutions are presented and compared with results obtained from the finite beam element based on the approximate interpolation polynomials and other available results. Especially, the effects of various structural parameters such as material distribution type, volume fraction index, boundary condition, and material ratio on the spatially coupled responses of FG box beams with non-symmetric single- and double-cells are parametrically investigated.  相似文献

In recent years many articles concerned with the mechanics of functionally graded plates have been published. The variation in material properties through the thickness of the plate introduces a coupling between in-plane and transverse displacements, the coupling is important in the vibration of functionally graded plates (FGPs), but none have produced an exact closed-form solution for the in-plane as well as transverse vibrations of smart circular/annular FGPs. Therefore, this paper develops an exact closed-form solution for the free vibration of piezoelectric coupled thick circular/annular FGPs subjected to different boundary conditions on the basis of the Mindlin’s first-order shear deformation theory. Through the comparison of present results with those available, the accuracy of the present method was verified. The effects of coupling between in-plane and transverse displacements on the frequency parameters are proved to be significant. It is concluded that the developed model can describe vibrational behavior of smart FGM plates more realistic. Due to the inherent features of the present solution, all findings will be a useful benchmark for evaluating other analytical and numerical methods developed by researchers in the future.  相似文献

The static response of simply supported functionally graded plates (FGP) subjected to a transverse uniform load (UL) or a sinusoidally distributed load (SL) and resting on an elastic foundation is examined by using a new hyperbolic displacement model. The present theory exactly satisfies the stress boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate. No transverse shear correction factors are needed, because a correct representation of the transverse shear strain is given. The material properties of the plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of material constituents. The foundation is modeled as a two-parameter Pasternak-type foundation, or as a Winkler-type one if the second parameter is zero. The equilibrium equations of a functionally graded plate are given based on the hyperbolic shear deformation theory of plates presented. The effects of stiffness and gradient index of the foundation on the mechanical responses of the plates are discussed. It is established that the elastic foundations significantly affect the mechanical behavior of thick functionally graded plates. The numerical results presented in the paper can serve as benchmarks for future analyses of thick functionally graded plates on elastic foundations.  相似文献

Free vibration and static analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) plates are studied using higher order shear deformation theory with a special modification in the transverse displacement in conjunction with finite element models. The mechanical properties of the plate are assumed to vary continuously in the thickness direction by a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The fundamental equations for FGM plates are derived using variational approach by considering traction free boundary conditions on the top and bottom faces of the plate. Results have been obtained by employing a continuous isoparametric Lagrangian finite element with 13 degrees of freedom per node. Convergence tests and comparison studies have been carried out to demonstrate the efficiency of the present model. Numerical results for different thickness ratios, aspect ratios and volume fraction index with different boundary conditions have been presented. It is observed that the natural frequency parameter increases for plate aspect ratio, lower volume fraction index n and smaller thickness ratios. It is also observed that the effect of thickness ratio on the frequency of a plate is independent of the volume fraction index. For a given thickness ratio non-dimensional deflection increases as the volume fraction index increases. It is concluded that the gradient in the material properties plays a vital role in determining the response of the FGM plates.  相似文献

The paper is aimed at enhancing computational performance for optimizing the material distribution of tri-directional functionally graded (FG) plates. We exploit advantages of using a non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) basis function for describing material distribution varying through all three directions of functionally graded (FG) plates. Two-dimensional free vibration and buckling behaviors of multi-directional (1D, 2D and 3D) FG plates analyzed by using a combination of generalized shear deformation theory (GSDT) and isogeometric analysis (IGA) is first proposed. This approach can help to save a significant amount of computational cost while still ensure the accuracy of the solutions. The effectiveness and reliability of the present method are demonstrated by comparing it to other methods in the literature. The obtained results are in excellent agreement with the reference ones. More importantly, data sets consisting of input-output pairs are randomly generated from the analysis process through iterations for the training process in deep neural networks (DNN). DNN is utilized as an analysis tool to supplant finite element analysis to reduce computational cost. By using DNN, behaviors of the multi-directional FG plates are directly predicted from those material distributions. Optimal material distributions of tri-directional FG plates under free vibration or compression in various volume fraction constraints are found by using modified symbiotic organisms search (mSOS) algorithm for the first time. Moreover, an isogeometric multimesh design technique is also used to diminish a large number of design variables in optimization. Optimal results obtained by DNN are compared with those of IGA to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, the second order statistics of post buckling response of functionally graded materials plate (FGM) subjected to mechanical and thermal loading with nonuniform temperature changes subjected to temperature independent (TID) and dependent (TD) material properties is examined. Material properties such as material properties of each constituent’s materials, volume fraction index are taken as independent random input variables. The basic formulation is based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) with von-Karman nonlinear kinematic using modified C0 continuity. A direct iterative based C0 nonlinear finite element method (FEM) combined with mean centered first order perturbation technique (FOPT) proposed by last two authors for the composite plate is extended for Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) plate with reasonable accuracy to compute the second order statistics (mean and coefficient of variation) of the post buckling load response of the FGM plates. The effect of random material properties with amplitude ratios, volume fraction index, plate thickness ratios, aspect ratios, boundary conditions and types of loadings subjected to TID and TD material properties are presented through numerical examples. The performance of outlined present approach is validated with the results available in literatures and independent Monte Carlo simulation (MCS).  相似文献

This paper presents the free vibration analysis of piezoelectric coupled annular plates with variable thickness on the basis of the Mindlin plate theory. No work has yet been done on piezoelectric laminated plates while the thickness is variable. Two piezoelectric layers are embedded on the upper and lower surfaces of the host plate. The host plate thickness is linearly increased in the radial direction while the piezoelectric layers thicknesses remain constant along the radial direction. Different combinations of three types of boundary conditions i.e. clamped, simply supported, and free end conditions are considered at the inner and outer edges of plate. The Maxwell static electricity equation in piezoelectric layers is satisfied using a quadratic distribution of electric potential along the thickness. The natural frequencies are obtained utilizing a Rayleigh–Ritz energy approach and are validated by comparing with those obtained by finite element analysis. A good compliance is observed between numerical solution and finite element analysis. Convergence study is performed in order to verify the numerical stability of the present method. The effects of different geometrical parameters such as the thickness of piezoelectric layers and the angle of host plate on the natural frequencies of the assembly are investigated.  相似文献

The paper deals with stationary vibrations of viscoelastic laminated rectangular plates controlled by distributed piezoelectric sensors and actuators. Assuming the perfect bonding, the model of interaction between piezoelements and the basic structure is developed by taking into account the inplane tension or compression of the plate caused by the two‐dimensional piezoelectric effect. Moreover, the governing equations are formulated for a non‐zero skew angle between the principal material axes of the piezoelectric patches and the laminate axes.  相似文献

This paper presents a semi-analytical approach to investigate wave propagation characteristics in functionally graded graphene reinforced piezoelectric composite plates. Three patterns of graphene platelets (GPLs) describe the layer-wise variation of material properties in the thickness direction. Based on the Reissner-Mindlin plate theory and the isogeometric analysis, elastodynamic wave equation for the piezoelectric composite plate is derived by Hamilton’s principle and parameterized with the non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS). The equation is transformed into a second-order polynomial eigenvalue problem with regard to wave dispersion. Then, the semi-analytical approach is validated by comparing with the existing results and the convergence on computing dispersion behaviors is also demonstrated. The effects of various distributions, volume fraction, size parameters and piezoelectricity of GPLs as well as different geometry parameters of the composite plate on dispersion characteristics are discussed in detail. The results show great potential of graphene reinforcements in design of smart composite structures and application for structural health monitoring.  相似文献

In the present paper, a non-classical model for functionally graded annular sector microplates under distributed transverse loading is developed based on the modified couple stress theory and the first-order shear deformation plate theory. The model contains a single material length scale parameter which can capture the size effect. The material properties are graded through the thickness of plates according to a power-law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. The equilibrium equations and boundary conditions are simultaneously derived from the principle of minimum total potential energy. The system of equilibrium equations is then solved using the generalized differential quadrature method. The effects of length scale parameter, power-law index and geometrical parameters on the bending response of annular sector plates subjected to distributed transverse loading are investigated.  相似文献

Based on a 7-parameter shell model, a numerical algorithm has been developed for solving a coupled problem of thermoelectroelasticity for a laminated piezoelectric shell subjected to a thermoelectromechanical loading. As unknowns, six tangential and transverse displacements of outer surfaces and the transverse displacement of shell midsurface are chosen. This choice provides a possibility of utilizing the complete 3D constitutive equations of thermopiezoelectricity. A geometrically exact 3D hybrid piezoelectric shell element is formulated by using nonconventional analytical integration. With the help of this finite element, solutions of coupled problems of thermoelectroelasticity for laminated plates and shells with segmented and distributed piezoelectric sensors and actuators are obtained.  相似文献

This paper deals with large amplitude vibration of hybrid laminated plates containing piezoelectric layers resting on an elastic foundation in thermal environments. The motion equation of the plate that includes plate-foundation interaction is based on a higher order shear deformation plate theory and solved by a two-step perturbation technique. The thermo-piezoelectric effects are also included and the material properties of both orthotropic layers and piezoelectric layers are assumed to be temperature-dependent. The numerical illustrations concern nonlinear vibration characteristics of unsymmetric cross-ply and antisymmetric angle-ply laminated plates with fully covered or embedded piezoelectric actuators under different sets of thermal and electrical loading conditions. The results show that the foundation stiffness and stacking sequence have a significant effect on the nonlinear vibration characteristics of the hybrid laminated plate. The results also reveal that the temperature rise reduces the natural frequency, but it only has a small effect on the nonlinear to linear frequency ratios of the hybrid laminated plate. The results confirm that the effect of the applied voltage on the natural frequency and the nonlinear to linear frequency ratios of the hybrid laminated plate is marginal except the plate is sufficiently thin.  相似文献

The main objective of this research work is to present analytical solutions for free vibration analysis of moderately thick rectangular plates, which are composed of functionally graded materials (FGMs) and supported by either Winkler or Pasternak elastic foundations. The proposed rectangular plates have two opposite edges simply-supported, while all possible combinations of free, simply-supported and clamped boundary conditions are applied to the other two edges. In order to capture fundamental frequencies of the functionally graded (FG) rectangular plates resting on elastic foundation, the analysis procedure is based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) to derive and solve exactly the equations of motion. The mechanical properties of the FG plates are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate and obey a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents, whereas Poisson’s ratio is set to be constant. First, a new formula for the shear correction factors, used in the Mindlin plate theory, is obtained for FG plates. Then the excellent accuracy of the present analytical solutions is confirmed by making some comparisons of the results with those available in literature. The effect of foundation stiffness parameters on the free vibration of the FG plates, constrained by different combinations of classical boundary conditions, is also presented for various values of aspect ratios, gradient indices, and thickness to length ratios.  相似文献

In the present study, a novel exact closed-form procedure based on the third order shear deformation plate theory is developed to analyze in-plane and out-of-plane frequency responses of circular/annular functionally graded material (FGM) plates embedded in piezoelectric layers for both close/open circuit electrical boundary conditions. Introducing a new analytical method, five governing partial deferential equations of motion beside Maxwell electrostatic equation are solved via an exact closed-form method. The high accuracy and reliability of the present approach is confirmed by comparing some of the present data with their counterparts reported in the literature. Finally, the effect of material properties, power law index and boundary conditions on the free vibration of the smart FGM plate are studied and discussed in detail.  相似文献
