In this work we derive and analyze a posteriori error estimators for low-order nonconforming finite element methods of the linear elasticity problem on both triangular and quadrilateral meshes, with hanging nodes allowed for local mesh refinement. First, it is shown that equilibrated Neumann data on interelement boundaries are simply given by the local weak residuals of the numerical solution. The first error estimator is then obtained by applying the equilibrated residual method with this set of Neumann data. From this implicit estimator we also derive two explicit error estimators, one of which is similar to the one proposed by Dörfler and Ainsworth (2005) [24] for the Stokes problem. It is established that all these error estimators are reliable and efficient in a robust way with respect to the Lamé constants. The main advantage of our error estimators is that they yield guaranteed, i.e., constant-free upper bounds for the energy-like error (up to higher order terms due to data oscillation) when a good estimate for the inf-sup constant is available, which is confirmed by some numerical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a posteriori error estimator for the nonconforming finite element approximation, including using Crouzeix–Raviart element and extended Crouzeix–Raviart element, of the Stokes eigenvalue problem. With the technique of Helmholtz decomposition, we first give out a posteriori error estimator and prove it as the global upper bound and local lower bound of the approximation error. Then, by deleting a jump term in the indicator, another simpler but equivalent indicator is obtained. Some numerical experiments are provided to verify our analysis.  相似文献

We present and analyze an a posteriori error estimator based on mesh refinement for the solution of the hypersingular boundary integral equation governing the Laplacian in three dimensions. The discretization under consideration is a nonconforming domain decomposition method based on the Nitsche technique. Assuming a saturation property, we establish quasireliability and efficiency of the error estimator in comparison with the error in a natural (nonconforming) norm. Numerical experiments with uniform and adaptively refined meshes confirm our theoretical results. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 30: 947–963, 2014  相似文献

The present work is devoted to the a posteriori error estimation for 2nd order elliptic problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Using the duality technique we derive a reliable and efficient a posteriori error estimator that measures the error in the energy norm. All the derivations are done on continuous level, and the estimator can be used in assessing the error of any approximate solution which belongs to the Sobolev space H1, independently of the discretization method chosen. In particular, we make no use of the Galerkin orthogonality, which enables us to implement the estimator for measuring the error of the fictitious domain/penalty finite element method. The estimator is easily computable, and the only constant present in the estimator is the one from Friedrichs' inequality; the constant depends solely on the domain geometry, and the estimator is quite non‐sensitive to the error in the constant evaluation. Finally, we show how accurately the estimator captures the local error distribution, thus, creating a base for a justified adaptivity of an approximation.  相似文献

In this paper, HFEM is proposed to investigate the circular arch problem. Optimal error estimates are derived, some superconvergence results are established, and an asymptotic exactness posteriori error estimator is presented. In contrast with the classical displacement variational method, the optimal convergence rate for displacement is uniform to the small parameter. In contrast with classical mixed finite element methods, our results are free of the strict restriction on h(the mesh size) which is preserved by all the previous papers. Furtheremore we introduce an asymptotic exactness posteriori error estimator based on a global superconvergence result which is discovered in this kind of problem for the first time.  相似文献

We derive a reliable a posteriori error estimator for a state-constrained elliptic optimal control problem taking into account both regularisation and discretisation. The estimator is applicable to finite element discretisations of the problem with both discretised and non-discretised control. The performance of our estimator is illustrated by several numerical examples for which we also introduce an adaptation strategy for the regularisation parameter.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop an a posteriori error analysis of a mixed finite element method for a fluid–solid interaction problem posed in the plane. The media are governed by the acoustic and elastodynamic equations in time-harmonic regime, respectively, and the transmission conditions are given by the equilibrium of forces and the equality of the normal displacements of the solid and the fluid. The coupling of primal and dual-mixed finite element methods is applied to compute both the pressure of the scattered wave in the linearized fluid and the elastic vibrations that take place in the elastic body. The finite element subspaces consider continuous piecewise linear elements for the pressure and a Lagrange multiplier defined on the interface, and PEERS for the stress and rotation in the solid domain. We derive a reliable and efficient residual-based a posteriori error estimator for this coupled problem. Suitable auxiliary problems, the continuous inf-sup conditions satisfied by the bilinear forms involved, a discrete Helmholtz decomposition, and the local approximation properties of the Clément interpolant and Raviart–Thomas operator are the main tools for proving the reliability of the estimator. Then, Helmholtz decomposition, inverse inequalities, and the localization technique based on triangle-bubble and edge-bubble functions are employed to show the efficiency. Finally, some numerical results confirming the reliability and efficiency of the estimator are reported.  相似文献

Energy norm a posteriori error estimates for mixed finite element methods   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
This paper deals with the a posteriori error analysis of mixed finite element methods for second order elliptic equations. It is shown that a reliable and efficient error estimator can be constructed using a postprocessed solution of the method. The analysis is performed in two different ways: under a saturation assumption and using a Helmholtz decomposition for vector fields.

Summary. Computable a posteriori error bounds for a large class of nonconforming finite element methods are provided for a model Poisson-problem in two and three space dimensions. Besides a refined residual-based a posteriori error estimate, an averaging estimator is established and an -estimate is included. The a posteriori error estimates are reliable and efficient; the proof of reliability relies on a Helmholtz decomposition. In this paper, we propose an exponential ratio type estimator of the finite population mean when auxiliary information is qualitative in nature. Under simple random sampling without replacement scheme, the expressions for the bias and the mean square error of the proposed estimator have been obtained, up to first order of approximation. To show that our proposed estimator is more efficient as compared to the existing estimators, we have made a comparative study with respect to their mean square errors. Theoretically and numerically, we have found that our proposed estimator is always more efficient as compared to its competitor estimators including all the estimators of Abd-Elfattah et al. [1] [A.M. Abd-Elfattah, E.A. El-Sherpieny, S.M. Mohamed, and O.F. Abdou. Improvement in estimating the population mean in simple random sampling using information on auxiliary attribute. We present a new approach to the a posteriori error analysis of stable Galerkin approximations of reaction–convection–diffusion problems. It relies upon a non-standard variational formulation of the exact problem, based on the anisotropic wavelet decomposition of the equation residual into convection-dominated scales and diffusion-dominated scales. The associated norm, which is stronger than the standard energy norm, provides a robust (i.e., uniform in the convection limit) control over the streamline derivative of the solution. We propose an upper estimator and a lower estimator of the error, in this norm, between the exact solution and any finite dimensional approximation of it. We investigate the behaviour of such estimators, both theoretically and through numerical experiments. As an output of our analysis, we find that the lower estimator is quantitatively accurate and robust.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive robust a posteriori error estimates for conforming approximations to a singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion problem on anisotropic meshes, since the solution in general exhibits anisotropic features, e.g., strong boundary or interior layers. Based on the anisotropy of the mesh elements, we improve the a posteriori error estimates developed by Cheddadi et al., which are reliable and efficient on isotropic meshes but fail on anisotropic ones. Without the assumption that the mesh is shape-regular, the resulting mesh-dependent error estimator is shown to be reliable, efficient and robust with respect to the reaction coefficient, as long as the anisotropic mesh sufficiently reflects the anisotropy of the solution. We present our results in the framework of the vertex-centered finite volume method but their nature is general for any conforming one, like the piecewise linear finite element one. Our estimates are based on the usual H(div)-conforming, locally conservative flux reconstruction in the lowest-order Raviart-Thomas space on a dual mesh associated with the original anisotropic simplex one. Numerical experiments in 2D confirm that our estimates are reliable, efficient and robust on anisotropic meshes.  相似文献

We consider an augmented mixed finite element method applied to the linear elasticity problem and derive a posteriori error estimators that are simpler and easier to implement than the ones available in the literature. In the case of homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, the new a posteriori error estimator is reliable and locally efficient, whereas for non-homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, we derive an a posteriori error estimator that is reliable and satisfies a quasi-efficiency bound. Numerical experiments illustrate the performance of the corresponding adaptive algorithms and support the theoretical results.  相似文献

A posteriori error estimation is an important tool for reliable and efficient Galerkin boundary element computations. For hypersingular integral equations in 2D with a positive-order Sobolev space, we analyse the mathematical relation between the (h???h/2)-error estimator from [S. Ferraz-Leite and D. Praetorius, Simple a posteriori error estimators for the h-version of the boundary element method, Computing 83 (2008), pp. 135–162], the two-level error estimator from [M. Maischak, P. Mund, and E. Stephan, Adaptive multilevel BEM for acoustic scattering, 585 Comput. Methods Appl. Mech. Eng. 150 (1997), pp. 351–367], and the averaging error estimator from [C. Carstensen and D. Praetorius, Averaging techniques for the a posteriori bem error control for a hypersingular integral equation in two dimensions, SIAM J. Sci. Comput. 29 (2007), pp. 782–810]. All of these a posteriori error estimators are simple in the following sense: first, the numerical analysis can be done within the same mathematical framework, namely localization techniques for the energy norm. Second, there is almost no implementational overhead for the realization.  相似文献

We present an a posteriori residual error estimator for the Laplace equation using a cell-centered finite volume method in the plane. For that purpose we associate to the approximated solution a kind of Morley interpolant. The error is then the difference between the exact solution and this Morley interpolant. The residual error estimator is based on the jump of normal and tangential derivatives of the Morley interpolant. The equivalence between the discrete H1-seminorm of the error and the residual error estimator is proved. The proof of the upper error bound uses the Helmholtz decomposition of the broken gradient of the error and some quasi-orthogonality relations. To cite this article: S. Nicaise, C. R. Acad. Sci. Summary. A residual based error estimator for the approximation of linear elliptic boundary value problems by nonconforming finite element methods is introduced and analyzed. In particular, we consider mortar finite element techniques restricting ourselves to geometrically conforming domain decomposition methods using P1 approximations in each subdomain. Additionally, a residual based error estimator for Crouzeix-Raviart elements of lowest order is presented and compared with the error estimator obtained in the more general mortar situation. It is shown that the computational effort of the error estimator can be considerably reduced if the special structure of the Lagrange multiplier is taken into account. We present and analyze a least squares formulation for contact problems in linear elasticity which employs both, displacements and stresses, as independent variables. As a consequence, we obtain stability and high accuracy of our discretization also in the incompressible limit. Moreover, our formulation gives rise to a reliable and efficient a posteriori error estimator. To incorporate the contact constraints, the first‐order system least squares functional is augmented by a contact boundary functional which implements the associated complementarity condition. The bilinear form related to the augmented functional is shown to be coercive and therefore constitutes an upper bound, up to a constant, for the error in displacements and stresses in . This implies the reliability of the functional to be used as an a posteriori error estimator in an adaptive framework. The efficiency of the use of the functional as an a posteriori error estimator is monitored by the local proportion of the boundary functional term with respect to the overall functional. Computational results using standard conforming linear finite elements for the displacement approximation combined with lowest‐order Raviart‐Thomas elements for the stress tensor show the effectiveness of our approach in an adaptive framework for two‐dimensional and three‐dimensional Hertzian contact problems. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
