The standard reduced bar complex B(A) of a differential graded algebra A inherits a natural commutative algebra structure if A is a commutative algebra. We address an extension of this construction in the context of E-infinity algebras. We prove that the bar complex of any E-infinity algebra can be equipped with the structure of an E-infinity algebra so that the bar construction defines a functor from E-infinity algebras to E-infinity algebras. We prove the homotopy uniqueness of such natural E-infinity structures on the bar construction. We apply our construction to cochain complexes of topological spaces, which are instances of E-infinity algebras. We prove that the n-th iterated bar complexes of the cochain algebra of a space X is equivalent to the cochain complex of the n-fold iterated loop space of X, under reasonable connectedness, completeness and finiteness assumptions on X.  相似文献

Ordinary cohomologies in an algebra most often exhibit themselves either as objects that describe extensions (of algebras, groups, or modules) or as subjects hindering the existence of algebraic constructions. We introduce the notion of nonlinear cohomologies at a level of cochain complexes, furnish particular examples for Lie algebras, and give an interpretation of first nonlinear cohomologies in terms of “quasiextensions” of orthogonal modules. In a semiabelian category, a strictly exact sequence 0ABC0 of cochain complexes gives rise to the cohomology sequence ...→H n(A) →H n(B)→ H n(C)→ H n+1 (A) →.... We study conditions for exactness of the homology sequence at a given term.  相似文献

In this paper we deal with some problems of the Korovkin-type Approximation theory concerning the convergence of nets of linear forms toward discrete-type linear forms on commutative Banach algebras. We also study the case of involutive symmetric commutative Banach algebras with identity or with bounded approximate identity. Examples and applications are presented in the context of the algebrasC 0(X, C),C(X, C) andL 1 (IR).  相似文献

UniversalC*-algebrasC*(A) exist for certain topological *-algebras called algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. A Frechet *-algebraA has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if every operator representation ofA mapsA into bounded operators. This is proved by showing that every unbounded operator representation π, continuous in the uniform topology, of a topological *-algebraA, which is an inverse limit of Banach *-algebras, is a direct sum of bounded operator representations, thereby factoring through the enveloping pro-C*-algebraE(A) ofA. Given aC*-dynamical system (G,A,α), any topological *-algebraB containingC c (G,A) as a dense *-subalgebra and contained in the crossed productC*-algebraC*(G,A,α) satisfiesE(B) =C*(G,A,α). IfG = ℝ, ifB is an α-invariant dense Frechet *-subalgebra ofA such thatE(B) =A, and if the action α onB ism-tempered, smooth and by continuous *-automorphisms: then the smooth Schwartz crossed productS(ℝ,B,α) satisfiesE(S(ℝ,B,α)) =C*(ℝ,A,α). WhenG is a Lie group, theC -elementsC (A), the analytic elementsC ω(A) as well as the entire analytic elementsC є(A) carry natural topologies making them algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. Given a non-unitalC*-algebraA, an inductive system of idealsI α is constructed satisfyingA =C*-ind limI α; and the locally convex inductive limit ind limI α is anm-convex algebra with theC*-enveloping algebraA and containing the Pedersen idealK a ofA. Given generatorsG with weakly Banach admissible relationsR, we construct universal topological *-algebraA(G, R) and show that it has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if (G, R) isC*-admissible.  相似文献

We show that the graded commutative ring structure of the Hochschild cohomology HH*(A) is trivial in case A is a triangular quadratic string algebra. Moreover, in case A is gentle, the Lie algebra structure on HH*(A) is also trivial.  相似文献

A host algebra of a topological group G is a C *-algebra whose representations are in one-to-one correspondence with certain continuous unitary representations of G. In this paper we present an approach to host algebras for infinite dimensional Lie groups which is based on complex involutive semigroups. Any locally bounded absolute value α on such a semigroup S leads in a natural way to a C *-algebra C *(S,α), and we describe a setting which permits us to conclude that this C *-algebra is a host algebra for a Lie group G. We further explain how to attach to any such host algebra an invariant weak-*-closed convex set in the dual of the Lie algebra of G enjoying certain nice convex geometric properties. If G is the additive group of a locally convex space, we describe all host algebras arising this way. The general non-commutative case is left for the future. To K.H. A Lie coalgebra is a coalgebra whose comultiplication Δ : MM ? M satisfies the Lie conditions. Just as any algebra A whose multiplication ? : A ? AA is associative gives rise to an associated Lie algebra L(A), so any coalgebra C whose comultiplication Δ : CC ? C is associative gives rise to an associated Lie coalgebra Lc(C). The assignment C ? Lc(C) is functorial. A universal coenveloping coalgebra Uc(M) is defined for any Lie Lie coalgebra M by asking for a right adjoint Uc to Lc. This is analogous to defining a universal enveloping algebra U(L) for any Lie algebra L by asking for a left adjoint U to the functor L. In the case of Lie algebras, the unit (i.e., front adjunction) 1 → L o U of the adjoint functor pair U ? L is always injective. This follows from the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem, and is equivalent to it in characteristic zero (x = 0). It is, therefore, natural to inquire about the counit (i.e., back adjunction) Lc o Uc → 1 of the adjoint functor pair Lc ? Uc.Theorem. For any Lie coalgebra M, the natural mapLc(UcM) → M is surjective if and only if M is locally finite, (i.e., each element of M lies in a finite dimensional sub Lie coalgebra of M).An example is given of a non locally finite Lie coalgebra. The existence of such an example is surprising since any coalgebra C whose diagonal Δ is associative is necessarily locally finite by a result of that theory. The present paper concludes with a development of an analog of the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem for Lie algebras which we choose to call the Dual Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt Theorem and abbreviate by “The Dual PBWθ.” The constraints of the present paper, however, allow only a sketch of this theorem. A complete proof will appear in a subsequent paper. The reader may, however, consult [12], in the meantime, for details. The Dual PBWθ shows for any locally finite Lie coalgebra M the existence (in χ = 0) of a natural isomorphism of the graded Hopf algebras 0E(UcM) and 0E(ScM) associated to UcM and to ScM = Uc(TrivM) when Uc(M) and Sc(M) are given the Lie filtrations. [Just as Uc(M) is the analog of the enveloping algebra U(L) of a Lie algebra L, so Sc(V) is the analog of the symmetric algebra S(V) on a vector space V. Triv(M) denotes the trivial Lie coalgebra structure on the underlying vector space of M obtained by taking the comultiplication to be the zero map.]  相似文献

Given anm-tempered strongly continuous action α of ℝ by continuous*-automorphisms of a Frechet*-algebraA, it is shown that the enveloping ↡-C *-algebraE(S(ℝ, A, α)) of the smooth Schwartz crossed productS(ℝ,A , α) of the Frechet algebra A of C-elements ofA is isomorphic to the Σ-C *-crossed productC *(ℝ,E(A), α) of the enveloping Σ-C *-algebraE(A) ofA by the induced action. WhenA is a hermitianQ-algebra, one getsK-theory isomorphismRK *(S(ℝ, A, α)) =K *(C *(ℝ,E(A), α) for the representableK-theory of Frechet algebras. An application to the differential structure of aC *-algebra defined by densely defined differential seminorms is given.  相似文献

Let Γ be a finitely generated, torsion-free, two-step nilpotent group. Let C*(Γ) denote the universal C*-algebra of Γ. We show that , where for a unital C*-algebra A, sr(A) is the stable rank of A, and where is the space of one-dimensional representations of Γ. In process, we give a stable rank estimate for maximal full algebras of operator fields over metric spaces.  相似文献

The present paper is devoted to the classification of infinite-dimensional naturally graded Lie algebras that are narrow in the sense of Zelmanov and Shalev [9]. Such Lie algebras are Lie algebras of slow linear growth. In the theory of nonlinear hyperbolic partial differential equations the notion of the characteristic Lie algebra of equation is introduced [3]. Two graded Lie algebras n1 and n2 from our list, that are positive parts of the affine Kac–Moody algebras A1(1) and A2(2), respectively, are isomophic to the characteristic Lie algebras of the sinh-Gordon and Tzitzeika equations [6]. We also note that questions relating to narrow and slowly growing Lie algebras have been extensively studied in the case of a field of positive characteristic [2].

It is shown that all pointed torsion free modules for affine Lie algebras belong to C(1) n and A(1) n-1 and are the result of the natural construction of tensoring the Laurent polynomials with a torsion free module of the “underlying” simple finite dimensional Lie Algebra. These latter modules have been completely determined by Britten and Lemire [1].  相似文献

A thickening of a finite CW-complex X is by definition a compact manifold M of the same simple homotopy type as X. We give a model for the cochain complex of the boundary of that manifold, C *M), as a module over the cochain algebra C *(X). We also show how to construct an algebraic model of the rational homotopy type of δC *(M) from a model of X. Using this rational model, we prove a new formula for the rational Lusternik–Schnirelmann category of X. Received: 24 September 1999  相似文献

We consider semi-direct products ${\mathbb{C}^{n}\ltimes_{\phi}N}$ of Lie groups with lattices Γ such that N are nilpotent Lie groups with left-invariant complex structures. We compute the Dolbeault cohomology of direct sums of holomorphic line bundles over G/Γ by using the Dolbeaut cohomology of the Lie algebras of the direct product ${\mathbb{C}^{n}\times N}$ . As a corollary of this computation, we can compute the Dolbeault cohomology H p,q (G/Γ) of G/Γ by using a finite dimensional cochain complexes. Computing some examples, we observe that the Dolbeault cohomology varies for choices of lattices Γ.  相似文献

For a certain class of extensions of C*-algebras in which B and A belong to classifiable classes of C*-algebras, we show that the functor which sends to its associated six term exact sequence in K-theory and the positive cones of K0(B) and K0(A) is a classification functor. We give two independent applications addressing the classification of a class of C*-algebras arising from substitutional shift spaces on one hand and of graph algebras on the other. The former application leads to the answer of a question of Carlsen and the first named author concerning the completeness of stabilized Matsumoto algebras as an invariant of flow equivalence. The latter leads to the first classification result for nonsimple graph C*-algebras.  相似文献

We say that a Lie algebra g is quasi-state rigid if every Ad-invariant continuous Lie quasi-state on it is the directional derivative of a homogeneous quasimorphism. Extending work of Entov and Polterovich, we show that every reductive Lie algebra, as well as the algebras C n ? u(n), n ≥ 1, are rigid. On the other hand, a Lie algebra which surjects onto the three-dimensional Heisenberg algebra is not rigid. For Lie algebras of dimension ≤ 3 and for solvable Lie algebras which split over a codimension one abelian ideal, we show that this is the only obstruction to rigidity.  相似文献

A depth two extension A | B is shown to be weak depth two over its double centralizer V A (V A (B)) if this is separable over B. We consider various examples and non-examples of depth one and two properties. Depth two and its relationship to direct and tensor product of algebras as well as cup product of relative Hochschild cochains is examined. Section 6 introduces a notion of codepth two coalgebra homomorphism g : CD, dual to a depth two algebra homomorphism. It is shown that the endomorphism ring of bicomodule endomorphisms End D C D forms a right bialgebroid over the centralizer subalgebra g * : D *C * of the dual algebra C *. We investigate some subtle and interesting phenomena in the duality theory of operator spaces and operator algebras, and give several applications of the surprising fact that certain maps are always weak*-continuous on dual spaces. In particular, if X is a subspace of a C*-algebra A, and if aA satisfies aXX, then we show that the function x?ax on X is automatically weak* continuous if either (a) X is a dual operator space, or (b) a*XX and X is a dual Banach space. These results hinge on a generalization to Banach modules of Tomiyama's famous theorem on contractive projections onto a C*-subalgebra. Applications include a new characterization of the σ-weakly closed (possibly nonunital and nonselfadjoint) operator algebras, and a generalization of the theory of W*-modules to the framework of modules over such algebras. We also give a Banach module characterization of σ-weakly closed spaces of operators which are invariant under the action of a von Neumann algebra.  相似文献

Self-dual algebras are ones with an A bimodule isomorphism AA ∨op, where A = Hom k (A, k) and A ∨op is the same underlying k-module as A but with left and right operations by A interchanged. These are in particular quasi self-dual algebras, i.e., ones with an isomorphism H*(A,A) ≌ H*(A,A ∨ op). For all such algebras H*(A,A) is a contravariant functor of A. Finite-dimensional associative self-dual algebras over a field are identical with symmetric Frobenius algebras; an example of deformation of one is given. (The monoidal category of commutative Frobenius algebras is known to be equivalent to that of 1+1 dimensional topological quantum field theories.) All finite poset algebras are quasi self-dual.  相似文献

Our main result is the construction of an embedding ofC(T2) into an approximately finite-dimensionalC *-algebra which induces an injection onK 0(C(T2)). The existence of this embedding implies that Cech cohomology cannot be extended to a stable, continuous homology theory forC *-algebras which admits a well-behaved Chern character. Homotopy properties ofC *-algebras are also considered. For example, we show that the second homotopy functor forC *-algebras is discontinuous. Similar embeddings are constructed for all the rational rotation algebras, with the consequence that none of the rational rotation algebras satisfies the homotopy property called semiprojectivity.  相似文献
