Data on the cross sections for single-electron charge exchange and excitation in collisions of He+ ions with C5+, N6+, and O7+ ions in the He+ ion energy range of 0.2–3.0 MeV are obtained for the first time. The cross sections for the single-electron charge transfer
into the singlet and triplet 1snl states of C4+, N5+, and O6+ (2≤n≤5) ions and for the 1s → 2p
0, ±1 electronic excitation of He+(1s) ions are calculated. The calculations were performed by solving close-coupling equations on the basis of ten two-electron
quasi-molecular states.

The He-Ar-Cu+ IR laser operates in a hollow-cathode discharge, typically in a mixture of helium with a few-% Ar. The population inversion
of the Cu+ ion levels, responsible for laser action, is attributed to asymmetric charge transfer between He+ ions and sputtered Cu atoms. The Ar gas is added to promote sputtering of the Cu cathode. In this paper, a hybrid modeling
network consisting of several different models for the various plasma species present in a He-Ar-Cu hollow-cathode discharge
is applied to investigate the effect of Ar concentration in the gas mixture on the discharge behavior, and to find the optimum
He/Ar gas ratio for laser operation. It is found that the densities of electrons, Ar+ ions, Arm
* metastable atoms, sputtered Cu atoms and Cu+ ions increase upon the addition of more Ar gas, whereas the densities of He+ ions, He2
+ ions and Hem
* metastable atoms drop considerably. The product of the calculated Cu atom and He+ ion densities, which determines the production rate of the upper laser levels, and hence probably also the laser output power,
is found to reach a maximum around 1–5 % Ar addition. This calculation result is compared to experimental measurements, and
reasonable agreement has been reached.

Exit angle and energy dependences of the charge-state distribution of backscattered He ions were investigated when 500 keV He+ ions were incident on SiO2. The energy dependence of the He+ fraction was estimated by comparing the measured He+ spectra with the simulated spectra of He ions in all charge states at the exit angles of 5-25° with respect to the SiO2 surface. We found that the He+ fraction is almost independent of the exit angle at energies higher than 250 keV and the observed energy dependence of the He+ fraction is in good agreement with that for the carbon-foil-transmission experiment. In the low energy region (<250 keV), however, the He+ fraction decreases as the exit angle decreases.

Peculiar properties of ion-atom collision systems, in particular deviations from statistical populations of singlet and triplet
levels, can be studied by optical spectroscopy. We have extended earlier studies by VUV spectroscopy of a number of collision
systems at various collision energies in the 0.01-MeV/nucleon to 1-MeV/nucleon range, involving H2
+, H+, He+, He2+, Ne+, Ar+, and N2
+ as projectiles and Ne, Ar, and N2 as target gases. Statistically significant deviations of the relative intensities of singlet and triplet lines from simple
ratios are observed in the displaced terms of the valence shell of Ne III, corroborating and extending earlier work. For Ar
III, the energy dependences of singlet-to-triplet excitation ratios are very different for different projectiles. For N II,
in contrast, all observed line ratios are practically independent of the projectile energy.

Angular — and velocity — distributions of electrons emitted near zero degree from projectile ions (H+, H 2 + , H 3 + , He+, He++ at 1.7 MeV/u) traversing solid carbon foils (2 to 20) μg/cm2) have been measured. The data give clear evidence of production mechanisms which go beyond those reported elsewhere.

Summary Equilibrium charge state distributions of ions emerging from solids have been measured. As incident particles were used both
atomic (C+, N+, O+) and molecular (N
2
+
, CO+) projectile ions (0.025<E/M<0.108 MeV/u). The data of atomic projectile ions agree well with the data of other authors in a range in which they overlap.
Charge state fractions of emerging molecular-fragment ions behind a carbon foil are strongly influenced by the Coulomb explosion
and possibly by the wake potential.

Electron spectra produced by equal velocity (0.75 MeV/amu) H+, H+2, He+ and He ++ ions are shown. Screening effects are observed for He+ ions but not for H+2. He++ cross sections scale like Z2 = 4 when compared to H+ cross sections.

We have studied the He2+-Li collision system at laboratory energies between 15 and 150 keV using optical methods. From the measured emission cross sections we derive state-selective capture cross sections for n = 2,3,4 and n ? 5 states of the He+ ions. Our data are consistent with theoretical predictions of Bransden and Ermolaev. The total capture cross sections as evaluated from our emission cross section data, agree very well with the results of McCullough et al. obtained from projectile charge detection measurements. Near 15 keV our emission cross sections for 30.4 nm and 25.6 nm are much larger than those measured previously by Barrett and Leventhal at slightly lower energies.

The He+He+1 interactions have been studied, as a function of the internuclear separation R, in terms of the electronic forces acting on the nuclei and the change in the charge distribution. The analysis reveals that at large R the atomic densities are polarized inwards, causing an attractive force on each nucleus, while at small R the difference in the nature of the interactions in the 2Σu and 2Σg systems is noted. It is seen that the He+He+1 (2Σu) interaction is less attractive than the He+1+He+1 interaction at lower values of R.

ABSTRACTStopping cross sections (SCS) for protons, alphas and Li ions are calculated with a modified form of our earlier work by incorporating a different electron density distribution of target materials; this involves four parameters – two projectile dependent and the rest two remain fixed. The prosed model has been tested for three stripped ion (H+, He2 + and Li3 +) projectiles and found that it describes quite satisfactorily the experimental SCS data from low energies with projectile velocities nearing v = Z1v0 (with Z1 as the atomic number and v0 the Bohr velocity) up to 100.0 MeV over a wide range of stopping media with atomic numbers Z2 =3–100.

Using the pseudopotential method, theoretical investigation has been made on the firstorder Korteweg-deVries ion-acoustic
solitons in a multicomponent plasma consisting of warm positive ions, negative ions and isothermal electrons. The effects
of electron-inertia and drift motion of the ions on the amplitudes and widths of the solitons have been studied in a plasma
having (H+, Cl−), (H+, O−), (He+, H−) and (He+, O−) ions. Ion-acoustic double-layers have also been investigated for such plasmas. It has been found that drift velocity and
electron-inertia have significant contribution on the formation of double-layers in multicomponent plasma

Classical Trajectory Monte-Carlo (CTMC) method has been used to investigate state selective electron capture by He2+ ions colliding with Li(2s) and Li(2p) in as well as alignments in the energy range 1-15 keV/amu. He+(4l) electron capture, line emission [He II(n = 4 3)] cross-sections and alignment parameters have been calculated and analyzed in the light of the available results. The
undulatory structure of the capture and emission cross-sections have been explained qualitatively in terms of a quasi-molecular
ion formation. Projectile impact energy and spatial overlap play crucial role in determining the alignment effects.

The emission of a low-pressure helium plasma (P≤2 Torr) initiated by a monochromatic electron beam is investigated. It is found that an increase in the current leads to a drastic increase in the rate of charge exchange of doubly charged helium ions. The assumption is made that inelastic collisions of He++ ions with metastable helium atoms provide the main channel of charge exchange of these ions due to the reaction He+++Hem→ He+*+He 0 + .

Electron capture by Ar8+ in collisions with C60 fullerene has been investigated using coincident measurements of the number n of ejected electrons, the mass and charge of multicharged Cr+

recoil ions and their fragments Ci+
m and the final charge state of outgoing projectiles Ar(8-s)+ (). The number of captured electrons r is the sum of the numbers of stabilized and emitted electrons: r
=
n
+
s. The ratio n
/
s decreases by a factor three with s increasing from 1 to 7 showing that the multiply excited states populated by capture of a large number of electrons are rather
stable against auto-ionisation. Each kinetic energy spectrum of Ar+ and Ar2+ projectiles is composed of two peaks which we attribute to collisions “inside” and “outside” the C60 cage. The measured energy shift of the projectile keV is consistent with the corresponding energy loss keV in a carbon foil with an equivalent thickness. Inside collisions are characterized by a strong dissociation of recoil
ions into light monocharged fragments and by a high multiplicity of ejected electrons.

Ab Initio Calculations of Differential Cross Sections for Single Charge Transfer in ^3He^2+ + ^4He Collisions 下载免费PDF全文
The single charge transfer process in ^3He^2+ + ^4He collisions is investigated using the quantum-mechanical molecular- orbital close-coupling method, in which the adiabatic potentials and radial couplings are calculated by using the ab initio multireference single- and double-excitation configuration interaction methods. The differential cross sections for the single charge transfer are presented at the laboratorial energies E = 6 keV and lOkeV for the projectile ^3He^2+. Comparison with the existing data shows that the present results are better in agreement with the experimental measurements than other calculations in the dominant small angle scattering, which is attributed to the accurate calculations of the adiabatic potentials and the radial couplings.

Electron capture processes in collision between slow
X7+ (X = N, O and Ne) ions and C60 fullerene have been
investigated using coincident measurements of the number n of ejected
electrons, the mass and charge of the multicharged C60
r+ recoil ions and their fragments Cm
i+ and the final charge state of the
outgoing projectiles X(q-s)+ (
). The
collision velocity is about 0.4 a.u. The partial cross-sections σr
s , corresponding to r electrons transferred to the projectile with only s electrons stabilized, have been measured. Cross-sections
for collisions “inside” and those “outside” the C60
cage have been separated by analyzing the kinetic energy of the outgoing
projectile. The mean final charge state for frontal collisions has been
measured to 3.1, 2.6 and 2.5 for N7+, O7+ and Ne7+
respectively. These results show the importance of the core effect on the
stabilisation processes of captured electrons.
