Let {Xi, Yi}i=1,2,... be an i.i.d. sequence of bivariate random vectors with P(Y1 = y) = 0 for all y. Put Mn(j) = max0≤k≤n-j (Xk+1 + ... Xk+j)Ik,j, where Ik,k+j = I{Yk+1 < ⋯ < Yk+j} denotes the indicator function for the event in brackets, 1 ≤ j ≤ n. Let Ln be the largest index l ≤ n for which Ik,k+l = 1 for some k = 0, 1, ..., n - l. The strong law of large numbers for “the maximal gain over the longest increasing runs,” i.e., for Mn(Ln) has been recently derived for the case where X1 has a finite moment of order 3 + ε, ε > 0. Assuming that X1 has a finite mean, we prove for any a = 0, 1, ..., that the s.l.l.n. for M(Ln - a) is equivalent to EX 1 3+a I{X1 > 0} < ∞. By using the method of quantum circuits in the theory of quantum computing as outlined in Nielsen and Chuang [2] and using a key lemma of Jaikumar [1] we show that every unitary operator on the tensor productH =H 1H 2 ⊗... ⊗H n can be expressed as a composition of a finite number of unitary operators living on pair productsH iH j,1 ≤i,jn. For a positive integer n and a subset S⊆[n−1], the descent polytope DP  S is the set of points (x 1,…,x n ) in the n-dimensional unit cube [0,1] n such that x i x i+1 if iS and x i x i+1 otherwise. First, we express the f-vector as a sum over all subsets of [n−1]. Second, we use certain factorizations of the associated word over a two-letter alphabet to describe the f-vector. We show that the f-vector is maximized when the set S is the alternating set {1,3,5,…}∩[n−1]. We derive a generating function for F S (t), written as a formal power series in two non-commuting variables with coefficients in ℤ[t]. We also obtain the generating function for the Ehrhart polynomials of the descent polytopes.  相似文献

Consider the standard non-linear regression model y i = g(x i , θ 0)+ε i , i = 1, ... ,n where g(x, θ) is a continuous function on a bounded closed region X × Θ, θ 0 is the unknown parameter vector in Θ ⊂ R p , {x 1, x 2, ... , x n } is a deterministic design of experiment and {ε1, ε2, ... , ε n } is a sequence of independent random variables. This paper establishes the existences of M-estimates and the asymptotic uniform linearity of M-scores in a family of non-linear regression models when the errors are independent and identically distributed. This result is then used to obtain the asymptotic distribution of a class of M-estimators for a large class of non-linear regression models. At the same time, we point out that Theorem 2 of Wang (1995) (J. of Multivariate Analysis, vol. 54, pp. 227–238, Corrigenda. vol. 55, p. 350) is not correct. We then prove a trace formula for the operatorH in terms of the scattering phase, and, in a very special situation, use the trace formula to find spectral asymptotics forH. We calculate the asymptotics of combinatorial sums ∑ α f(α)( α n ) β , whereα = (α 1, …,α h ) withα i =α j for certaini, j. Hereh is fixed and theα i ’s are natural numbers. This implies the asymptotics of the correspondingS n -character degrees ∑λ f(λ)d λ β . For certain sequences ofS n characters which involve Young’s rule, the latter asymptotics were obtained earlier [1] by a different method. Equating the two asymptotics, we obtain equations between multi-integrals which involve Gaussian measures. Special cases here give certain extensions of the Mehta integral [5], [6]. Two examples are given which show that this bound is close to being best possible. The first is a sequencex 1, …,x n satisfying the above conditions with no 2-symmetric block basis of cardinality exceeding 2n 2/p-1. This sequence is not linearly independent. The second example is a sequence which satisfies a lowerp-estimate but which has no 2-symmetric block basis of cardinality exceedingCn 2/p-1(logn)4/3, whereC is an absolute constant. This applies when 1≦p≦3/2. Finally, we obtain improvements of the lower bound when the spaceX containing the sequence satisfies certain type-condition.
