The molecular dynamics in thin films (18 nm-137 nm) of isotactic poly(methyl methacrylate) (i-PMMA) of two molecular weights embedded between aluminium electrodes are measured by means of dielectric spectroscopy in the frequency range from 50 mHz to 10 MHz at temperatures between 273 K and 392 K. The observed dynamics is characterized by two relaxation processes: the dynamic glass transition (α-relaxation) and a (local) secondary β-relaxation. While the latter does not depend on the dimensions of the sample, the dynamic glass transition becomes faster (≤2 decades) with decreasing film thickness. This results in a shift of the glass transition temperature T g to lower values compared to the bulk. With decreasing film thickness a broadening of the relaxation time distribution and a decrease of the dielectric strength is observed for the α-relaxation. This enables to deduce a model based on immobilized boundary layers and on a region displaying a dynamics faster than in the bulk. Additionally, T g was determined by temperature-dependent ellipsometric measurements of the thickness of films prepared on silica. These measurements yield a gradual increase of T g with decreasing film thickness. The findings concerning the different thickness dependences of T g are explained by changes of the interaction between the polymer and the substrates. A quantitative analysis of the T g shifts incorporates recently developed models to describe the glass transition in thin polymer films. The glass transition temperature and the dynamics of the α-process have been investigated using dielectric relaxation spectroscopy for single and stacked thin films of poly(2-chlorostyrene) (P2CS). The stacked film consists of 10 layers of single thin films with thickness of 12 nm or 18 nm. The glass transition temperature T g of the single thin films of P2CS is found to decrease with decreasing film thickness in a similar way as observed for polystyrene thin films. The magnitude of the depression of T g for the stacked thin films is larger than that of the single thin films with corresponding thickness. The depression of the temperature at which the dielectric loss shows a peak due to the α-process at a given frequency, T α, is larger than that of the single thin films, although the magnitude is smaller than that of T g . Annealing at a high temperature could cause the T g and T α of the stacked thin films to approach the values of the bulk system.  相似文献

We study the possibility to measure the elastic ΦN (Φ≡J/ψ,ψ(2S), ψ(3770), χ2c) scattering cross section in the reaction ˉp+dΦ+n sp and the elastic DD)N scattering cross section in the reaction ˉp+dD D 0 p sp. Our studies indicate that the elastic scattering cross sections can be determined for Φ momenta about 4–6 GeV/c and DD momenta 2–5 GeV/c by selecting events with p t≥ 0.4 GeV/c for Φ's and p t(p sp) ≥ 0.5 GeV/c for DD-meson production. We report results obtained with two different experimental set-ups in state-of-the-art YBCO thin films as similar as possible, prepared by pulsed laser deposition on LaAlO3 substrates: a surface impedance measurement on 4000 ? thick films using a parallel plate resonator (10 GHz), and a far infrared transmission (100-400 GHz) measurement which requires thinner (1000 ?) samples. The former measurement yields the temperature variation of the penetration depth λ(T) and the real part of the conductivity, provided the absolute value of λ(T) is known. The latter yields the imaginary part of the conductivity, hence the absolute value of the penetration depth, as well as its temperature dependence at the measuring frequency. Combining these two experiments, we establish a quasi-linear temperature variation of λ(T), with a 2 ? K-1 low temperature slope, and a fairly large zero temperature value λ(T = 0)=(1800±200) ? . The scattering rate of the quasi-particles calculated from a two-fluids model shows that the films compare to good quality single crystals, where twice a larger slope has been found. This surprising behavior is described in detail, including an in-depth structural analysis of the samples in order to evaluate their similarities. We find that the 10 GHz data obtained in the thickest films can be fitted to the dirty d-wave mode in the unitarity limit, with an extrapolated slope of 3 ? K-1, but yield a scattering rate that is difficult to reconcile with the high T c (92 K) of the films. Received 7 May 2001 and Received in final form 18 October 2001  相似文献

Analytical calculations based on finite-size spin-wave theory and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations are performed to investigate the validity of the well-known relation m(H, T) = M(H, T)B D[M(H, T) H/T] between the induced magnetization m of the magnetic particle and its intrinsic magnetization M for the Ising and isotropic classical models (B D(x) is the Langevin function, D is the number of spin components, is the number of atoms in the particle). It follows from general arguments and from our analytical results for the Heisenberg model at TT c that this relation is not exact for any finite D and nonzero temperature. Nevertheless, corrections to this formula remain very small practically in the whole range T < T c if ≫ 1, as confirmed by our Monte Carlo calculations. At T T c/4 there is a good agreement between the MC and finite-size spin-wave calculations for the field dependence of m and M for the Heisenberg model with free boundary conditions. The lattice QCD studies indicate that the critical temperature T c ≃ 260-280 MeV of the deconfinement phase transition in quenched QCD is considerably smaller than the lowest-lying glueball mass m G ≃ 1500-1700 MeV, i.e., T cm G. As a consequence of this large difference, the thermal excitation of the glueball in the confinement phase is strongly suppressed by the statistical factor e -mG/Tc ≃ 0.00207 even near TT c. We consider its physical implication, and argue the abnormal feature of the deconfinement phase transition in quenched QCD from the statistical viewpoint. To appreciate this, we demonstrate a statistical argument of the QCD phase transition using the recent lattice QCD data. From the phenomenological relation between T c and the glueball mass, the deconfinement transition is found to take place in quenched QCD before a reasonable amount of glueballs is thermally excited. In this way, quenched QCD reveals a question “what is the trigger of the deconfinement phase transition ?” Received: 18 November 2002 / Accepted: 4 February 2003 / Published online: 29 April 2003  相似文献

We study the perspectives of resonant and nonresonant charmed-meson production in ˉp + A reactions within the Multiple Scattering Monte Carlo (MSMC) approach. We calculate the production of the resonances Ψ(3770),Ψ(4040) and Ψ(4160) on various nuclei, their propagation and decay to D,ˉD, D *,ˉD*, D s,ˉDs in the medium and vacuum, respectively. The modifications of the open charm vector mesons in the nuclear medium are found to be rather moderate or even small such that dilepton spectroscopy will require an invariant mass resolution of a few MeV. Furthermore, the elastic and inelastic interactions of the open charm mesons in the medium are taken into account, which can be related to (u, d )-, s- or c-quark exchange with nucleons. It is found that by studying the D/ˉD ratio for low momenta in the laboratory ( ? 2 - 2.2 GeV/c) as a function of the target mass A stringent constraints on the c-quark exchange cross-section can be obtained. On the other hand, the ratios D - s/D + s as well as D/D - s and D/D + s at low momenta as a function of A will permit to fix independently the strength of the s-quark exchange reaction in D - s N scattering. Fluorescence intensity measurements of chromophore-doped or -labeled polymers have been used for the first time to determine the effects of decreasing film thickness on glass transition temperature, T g, the relative strength of the glass transition, and the relative rate of physical aging below T g in supported, ultrathin polymer films. The temperature dependence of fluorescence intensity measured in the glassy state of thin and ultrathin films of pyrene-doped polystyrene (PS), poly(isobutyl methacrylate) (PiBMA), and poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P2VP) differs from that in the rubbery state with a transition at T g. Positive deviations from bulk T g are observed in ultrathin PiBMA and P2VP films on silica substrates while substantial negative deviations from bulk T g are observed in ultrathin PS films on silica substrates. The relative difference in the temperature dependences of fluorescence intensity in the rubbery and glassy states is usually reduced with decreasing film thickness, indicating that the strength of the glass transition is reduced in thinner films. The temperature dependence of fluorescence intensity also provides useful information on effects of processing history as well as on the degree of polymer-substrate interaction. In addition, when used as a polymer label, a mobility-sensitive rotor chromophore is demonstrated to be useful in measuring relative rates of physical aging in films as thin as 10 nm. Using ellipsometry, we characterized the nanoconfinement effect on the glass transition temperature (T gof supported polystyrene (PS) films employing two methods: the intersection of fits to the temperature (Tdependences of rubbery- and glassy-state thicknesses, and the transition mid-point between rubbery- and glassy-state expansivities. The results demonstrate a strong effect of thickness: Tg(bulk)-Tg(23 nm) = 10 °\ensuremath T_{{\rm g}}({\rm bulk})-T_{{\rm g}}(23{\,\mbox{nm}})= 10 ^{\circ} C. The T -range needed for accurate measurement increases significantly with decreasing thickness, an effect that arises from the broadening of the transition with confinement and a region below T g where expansivity slowly decreases with decreasing T . As determined from expansivities, the T g breadth triples in going from bulk films to a 21-nm-thick film; this broadening of the transition may be a more dramatic effect of confinement than the T g reduction itself. In contrast, there is little effect of confinement on the rubbery- and glassy-state expansivities. Compared with ellipsometry, T g ’s from fluorescence agree well in bulk films but yield lower values in nanoconfined films: T g(bulk) - T g(23 nm) = 15° C via fluorescence. This small difference in the T g confinement effect reflects differences in how fluorescence and ellipsometry report “average T g ” with confinement. With decreasing nanoscale thickness, fluorescence may slightly overweight the contribution of the free-surface layer while ellipsometry may evenly weight or underweight its contribution.  相似文献

The T g of organic liquids confined to nanoporous matrices and that of thin polymer films can decrease dramatically from the bulk value. One possible explanation for this phenomenon is the development of hydrostatic tension during vitrification under confinement that results in a concomitant increase in the free volume. Here we present experimental evidence and modeling results for ortho-terphenyl (o-TP) confined in pores as small as 11.6 nm that indicate that, although there is an important hydrostatic tension in the liquid in the pores, it does not develop until near the reduced T g of the constrained material --well below the bulk T g. Enthalpy recovery for the o-TP in the nanopores exhibits accelerated physical aging relative to the bulk, as well as a leveling off of the fictive temperature at equilibrium values greater than the aging temperature. An adaptation of the structural recovery model that incorporates vitrification under isochoric conditions is able to provide a quantitative explanation for the apparently anomalous aging observed in nanopore confined liquids and in thin polymeric films. The results strongly support the existence of an intrinsic size effect as the cause of the reduced T g. Received 3 September 2001  相似文献

We discuss the excess conductivity at nonzero frequencies in a superconductor above Tc within the Gaussian approximation. We focus the attention on the temperature range not too close to Tc: within a time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau formulation, we phenomenologically introduce a short wavelength cutoff (of the order of the inverse coherence length) in the fluctuational spectrum to suppress high momentum modes. We treat the general cases of thin wires, anisotropic thin films and anisotropic bulk samples. We obtain in all cases explicit expressions for the finite frequency fluctuational conductivity. The dc case directly follows. Close to Tc the cutoff has no effect, and the known results for Gaussian fluctuations are recovered. Above Tc, and already for ε = ln(T/T c) > 10-2, we find strong suppression of the paraconductivity as compared to the Gaussian prediction, in particular in the real part of the paraconductivity. At high ε the cutoff effects are dominant. We discuss our results in comparison with data on high-Tc superconductors. Received 19 March 2002 Published online 25 June 2002  相似文献

Whereas the first part of this paper dealt with the relaxation in the β-regime, this part investigates the final relaxation (α-relaxation) of a simulated polymer melt consisting of short non-entangled chains in the supercooled state above the critical temperature of ideal mode-coupling theory (MCT). The temperature range covers the onset of a two-step relaxation behaviour down to a temperature merely 2% above . We monitor the incoherent intermediate scattering function as well as the coherent intermediate scattering function of both a single chain and the melt over a wide range of wave numbers q. Upon approaching the coherent α-relaxation time of the melt increases strongly close to the maximum q max of the collective static structure factor Sq and roughly follows the shape of Sq for q q max. For smaller q-values corresponding to the radius of gyration the relaxation time exhibits another maximum. The temperature dependence of the relaxation times is well described by a power law with a q-dependent exponent in an intermediate temperature range. Deviations are found very close to and far above , the onset of which depends on q. The time-temperature superposition principle of MCT is clearly borne out in the whole range of reciprocal vectors. An analysis of the α-decay by the Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts (KWW) function reveals that the collective KWW stretching exponent and KWW relaxation time show a modulation with Sq. Furthermore, both incoherent and coherent KWW times approach the large-q prediction of MCT already for q > q max. At small q, a q-3 power law is found for the coherent chain KWW times similar to that of recent experiments.  相似文献

The masses of the SU(3)×SU(6) hadrons are calculated in the chiral-invariant phase space (CHIPS) model as a sum of the mean energies of the quarks at a constant temperature T c with the color-magnetic splitting and the color-electric shift. The masses of hadrons are parametrized by four constants: T c, ms, E CE and A CM. With the same number of parameters the CHIPS model fits the masses of hadrons better than the classic bag model. The small mass of the d-quark ( m d = 2.7MeV) is used to prove that the isotopic shifts of hadrons can be explained by the mass difference between the d- and u-quarks. The dibaryon mass is estimated in CHIPS to be 200MeV higher than in the bag model. The prediction for the mass of the α* cluster is about the same in both models. It is close to 4 . m Δ. We study the statistical properties of the sum S t = dt'σ t', that is the difference of time spent positive or negative by the spin σ t, located at a given site of a D-dimensional Ising model evolving under Glauber dynamics from a random initial configuration. We investigate the distribution of St and the first-passage statistics (persistence) of this quantity. We discuss successively the three regimes of high temperature ( T > T c), criticality ( T = T c), and low temperature ( T < T c). We discuss in particular the question of the temperature dependence of the persistence exponent , as well as that of the spectrum of exponents (x), in the low temperature phase. The probability that the temporal mean S t/t was always larger than the equilibrium magnetization is found to decay as t - - ?. This yields a numerical determination of the persistence exponent in the whole low temperature phase, in two dimensions, and above the roughening transition, in the low-temperature phase of the three-dimensional Ising model. A general expression is obtained for the thermodiffusion coefficientD T of a film, also for its dependence on temperature, film thickness and type of concentration distribution of the interstitials, according to its profile. In neglecting interaction of interstitials with each other in a model of a film with single-plane boundaries with the vacuum and the substrate, it is shown thatD T>D T (∞) is possible, whereD T (∞) is the thermodiffusion coefficient of a bulk specimen. The longitudinal and transverse nuclear magnetic relaxation rates 1/T 1(T) and 1/T 2(T) are calculated for three- and two-dimensional (3D and 2D) metallic ferro- and antiferromagnets (FM and AFM) with localized magnetic moments in the spin-wave temperature region. The contribution of the one-magnon decay processes is strongly enhanced in comparison with the standard T-linear Korringa term, especially for the FM case. For the 3D AFM case this contribution diverges logarithmically, the divergence being cut at the magnon gap ω due to magnetic anisotropy, and for the 2D AFM case as ω-1. The electron-magnon scattering processes yield T 2ln(T) and T 21/2-terms in 1/T 1 for the 3D AFM and 2D FM cases, respectively. The two-magnon (“Raman”) contributions are investigated and demonstrated to be large in the 2D FM case. Peculiarities of the isotropic 2D limit (where the correlation length is very large) are analyzed. Received 29 November 1999 and Received in final form 6 June 2000  相似文献

The finite size behavior of the susceptibility, Binder cumulant and some even moments of the magnetization of a fully finite O(n) cubic system of size L are analyzed and the corresponding scaling functions are derived within a field-theoretic ɛ-expansion scheme under periodic boundary conditions. We suppose a van der Waals type long-range interaction falling apart with the distance r as r - (d + σ), where 2 < σ < 4, which does not change the short-range critical exponents of the system. Despite that the system belongs to the short-range universality class it is shown that above the bulk critical temperature T c the finite-size corrections decay in a power-in-L, and not in an exponential-in-L law, which is normally believed to be a characteristic feature for such systems. On the basis of the experimental data on diffractive processes in πp, pp and pˉp collisions at intermediate, moderately high and high energies, we restore the scattering amplitude related to the t-channel exchange by vacuum quantum numbers by taking account of the diffractive s-channel rescatterings. At intermediate and moderately high energies, the t-channel exchange amplitude turns, with a good accuracy, into an effective pomeron which renders the results of the additive quark model. At superhigh energies the scattering amplitude provides a Froissart-type behaviour, with an asymptotic universality of cross sections such as σtot πptot pp→ 1 at s→∞. The quark structure of hadrons being taken into account at the level of constituent quarks, the cross sections of pion and proton (antiproton) in the impact parameter space of quarks, σπ(r 1⊥, r 2⊥; s) and σp(r 1⊥, r 2⊥, r 3⊥; s), are found as functions of s. These cross sections implicate the phenomenon of colour screening: they tend to zero at |r i⊥r k⊥|→ 0. The effective colour screening radius for pion (proton) is found for different s. The predictions for the diffractive cross sections at superhigh energies are presented. Received: 15 December 1998  相似文献

We have studied the influence of oxygen on the superconducting properties of thin films of lead, indium and tin deposited on glass or sapphire substrates. In addition, the morphological microstructure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The film thickness was 1.0 μm, and the partial pressure of O2 during the film deposition was raised up to 1×10−4 Torr. In all three materials the development of a granular structure and a strong increase in the residual electric resistivity was observed due to the O2-treatment. Whereas in the Pb films no change of the critical temperature was found, the In films deposited on glass substrates showed a slight increase ofT c due to the oxygen. The strongest increase ofT c (up to 8%) was observed in the O2-treated Sn films. These results are discussed in terms of the McMillan theory. From our measurements of the critical current densityj c we conclude that edge pinning is dominant in the undoped films. All three materials showed a strong increase ofj c due to the O2-treatment which must be interpreted in terms of bulk pinning.  相似文献
