We report on grain growth and related structure change in single phased Al-Li-Cu quasicrystals. The icosahedral phase grains
have been investigated using scanning ion microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Regular boundaries between large
grains have been observed both before and after high temperature annealing. The electron diffraction study shows that the
grain growth is accompanied by a reduction of the phason-strains. The orientation relation between grains sets the 2-fold
icosahedral axes parallel, and the coincidence of the planes depends on the phason strain-field. The effect of phason-strain
field on these boundaries is discussed. It is proposed that the phason strain elimination can play a role in the grain growth.

Since quasicrystals have positional and orientational
long-range order, they are essentially anisotropic. However, the
researches show that some physical properties of quasicrystals are
isotropic. On the other hand, quasicrystals have additional phason
degrees of freedom which can influence on their physical behaviours.
To reveal the quasicrystal anisotropy, we investigate the
quasicrystal elasticity and other physical properties, such as
thermal expansion, piezoelectric and piezoresistance, for which one
must consider the contributions of the phason field. The results indicate that:
for the elastic properties, within linear phonon domain all
quasicrystals are isotropic, and within nonlinear phonon domain the
planar quasicrystals are still isotropic but the icosahedral
quasicrystals are anisotropic. Moreover, the nonlinear elastic
properties due to the coupling between phonons and phasons may
reveal the anisotropic structure of QCs. For the other physical
properties all quasicrystals behave like isotropic media except for
piezoresistance properties of icosahedral
quasicrystals due to the phason field. 相似文献

Using a quantum theory for an ensemble of two- or three-level atoms driven by electromagnetic fields in an optical cavity,
we show that the various spins associated with the atomic ensemble can be squeezed. Two kinds of squeezing are obtained: on
the one hand self-spin squeezing when the input fields are coherent ones and the atomic ensemble exhibits a large non-linearity;
on the other hand squeezing transfer when one of the incoming fields is squeezed.

A theoretical model is suggested which describes phason imperfections (specific excitations) in a quasiperiodic grain boundary
in a polycrystalline solid as dilatation flexes. In the framework of the model, an elastic stress field of the quasiperiodic
grain boundary is calculated as a stress field created by an ensemble of dilatation flexes (phason imperfections) located
in the boundary. It is shown that there is a special elastic interaction between crystal lattice defects and quasiperiodic
grain boundaries comprising phason imperfections. The strengthening effect in plastically deformed polycrystalline solids
is quantitatively described which is related to the special elastic interaction between lattice dislocations and quasiperiodic
grain boundaries.

We present a study of the electrical transport properties of thin i-Al-Cu-Fe films. We observe clear signatures of a dimensional
crossover in the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the conductivity for films thinner that ≃ 103?. In particular for the thinnest sample the magnetoconductivity is strongly anisotropic, as is expected for the weak localisation
contribution in two dimensions. These experiments show direct qualitative manifestations of the disorder induced quantum interference
effects occurring in quasicrystals. Estimates of the electronic microscopic parameters are in accordance with those obtained
in bulk samples. Their values and significance are discussed.

Magnetic-impurity-scattering effects in a quasi-2D disordered electron system have been investigated theoretically with the
diagrammatic techniques in perturbation theory. The analytical expressions for magnetoconductivities due to weak-localization
effects have been obtained as functions of elastic, inelastic and magnetic scattering times. The relevant dimensional crossover
behavior from 3D to 2D with decreasing the interlayer coupling has been discussed, and the condition for the crossover has
been obtained.

The application of group theory to elasticity in two-dimensional (2D)quasicrystals is presented. The expression of elastic energy as a function of gradients of the phonon and phason fields has been derived to quadratic order. The phonon response to an external stress is isotropic, but the response of phason field is anisotropic for eightfold and twelvefold symmetries. 相似文献

In this paper we develop a general method to solve elastic three-dimensional problems for one-dimensional hexagonal quasicrystals
with point groups 6mm, 62h2h,
m2h and 6/mmm, including crack and indentation problems. Exact solutions are obtained by using Fourier series and Hankel transform
methods. These results automatically reduce to those in the classical elasticity theory when the phason field is absent.

The icosahedral or decagonal symmetry of quasicrystals is well described by a periodic structure in higher dimensions. One
consequence is the existence of dynamic phason modes in addition to the phonon modes. In an atomistic model phasons show up
as correlated atomic jumps. We detect the phasons by the calculation of correlation functions and the dynamical structure
factor in molecular dynamics simulations similar to the procedure used for phonons. In the simulations it is also possible
to observe atomic jump processes directly. The models studied here represent icosahedral AlCuLi and decagonal AlCuCo quasicrystals.
Ring processes are observed in the icosahedral case, and flips in the decagonal model.

We consider the shape of crystals which are soft in the sense that their elastic modulus μ is small compared to their surface
tension γ, more precisely μa < γ where a is the lattice spacing. We show that their surface steps penetrate inside the crystal as edge dislocations. As a consequence,
these steps are broad with a small energy which we calculate. We also calculate the elastic interaction between steps a distance
d apart, which is a 1/d
2 repulsion. We finally calculate the roughening temperatures of successive facets in order to compare with the remarkable
shapes of lyotropic crystals recently observed by Pieranski et al. [#!Pieranski!#,#!EPJ!#]. Good agreement is found.

We show how to compute nonlinear optical absorption spectra of an Asymmetric Double Quantum Well (ADQW) in the region of intersubband
electronic transitions. The method uses the microscopic calculation of the dephasing due to electron-electron and electron-phonon
scattering rates and the macroscopic real density matrix approach to compute the electromagnetic fields and susceptibilities.
The polarization dephasing and the corrections to the Rabi frequencies due to the electron-electron interaction are also taken
into account. For a proper choice of the QW widths and of the driving fields we obtain electromagnetically induced transparency.
This transparency has a very narrow linewidth when a single driving field is applied resonant to the transition between the
second and the third subband. In the case of two resonant driving fields or of a driving field resonant between the first
and third subband we obtain a large transparency enhancement over the entire absorption spectrum. Results are given for GaAs/GaAlAs
QWs and experiments are proposed.

This paper presents an extension to electromagnetic fields of the wave automaton, which was introduced in recent years for
describing wave propagation in inhomogeneous media. Using elementary processes obeying a discrete Huygens' principle and satisfying
fundamental symmetries such as time reversal and reciprocity, this new wave automaton is capable of modeling Maxwell's equations
in 3+1 dimensions. It supplements the methods that were developed early for scalar and spinor fields.

Giant vesicles prepared from the diblock copolymer polybutadien-b-polyethyleneoxide (PB-PEO) exhibit a shear surface viscosity,
which is about 500 times higher than those found in common phospholipid bilayers. Our result constitutes the first direct
measurement of the shear surface viscosity of such polymersomes. At the same time, we measure bending and stretching elastic
constants, which fall in the range of values typical for lipid membranes. Pulling out a tether from an immobilized polymersome
and following its relaxation back to the vesicle body provides an estimate of the viscous coupling between the two monolayers
composing the polymer membrane. The detected intermonolayer friction is about an order of magnitude higher than the characteristic
one for phospholipid membranes. Polymersomes are tough vesicles with a high lysis tension. This, together with their robust
rheological properties, makes them interesting candidates for a number of technological applications.

Magnetostatic ferromagnetic coupling in magnetic tunnel junctions was selectively analyzed. We have shown that in samples
involving polycrystalline magnetic films, beyond the orange-peel coupling, an important class of interaction is related to
the dispersion fields associated to magnetic inhomogeneities. These magnetization fluctuations were described in terms of
magnetic roughness arising from the local anisotropy fluctuations. Therefore, using roughness data extracted from atomic/
magnetic force microscopy analysis, the amplitude and the variation with distance of the magnetostatic interactions were selectively
quantified.

A classification of icosahedral quasicrystals based the mutual-local-derivability (MLD) concept is performed. There are eighteen MLD classes within the reservation that the faces of the hyperatoms (windows) are perpendicular to the two-, three-, or fivefold axes. We report on measurements of the voltage dependence of the complex shear compliance of two crystals of the charge-density-wave
(CDW) conductor NbSe3, for torsional frequencies between 1 Hz and 71 Hz. For both samples, there is a frequency independent, ∼1% increase of the magnitude of the compliance when the voltage exceeds the threshold for CDW depinning, but the internal
friction has a striking sample dependence which we do not understand. For one sample, there is a frequency independent decrease
in internal friction with CDW depinning, suggesting that the elastic changes are not relaxational and might reflect changes
in the screening of the crystal strain by the CDW. For the second sample, the sign and magnitude of the change in internal
friction is strongly frequency dependent, which we associate with a change in screening due to the finite electron diffusion
time. The second sample also exhibits a frequency dependent peak in internal friction near threshold that may reflect relaxation
of the CDW phase.

Aperiodic crystals may have additional low frequency modes related to the possibility to describe them in a higher-dimensional
space. Dynamics associated with these degrees of freedom is called phasonic, but there are very different phenomena of this
type. A discussion is given of the use of the term. The relation between phason modes, the crystal structure, and the modulation
and sliding modes is discussed. Finally a relation with frictionless motion is studied.
