Millipore hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) microfiltration membranes were used for whey processing. Fouled membranes were cleaned with acid (HCl), alkaline (NaOH) and surfactant (Triton‐X100). The latter resulted in maximum flux recovery and resistance removal. Hydrochloric acid had a moderate effect and sodium hydroxide was the weakest cleaning agent. This is due to the cleaning strength of emulsifiers compared to acid or alkali. However acids are more efficient than alkaline solutions for removal of mineral compounds which remain on the membrane surface. Cleaning efficiency depends on the concentration of cleaning agent being higher for higher surfactant concentration. For acids and alkali, the efficiency increases with increasing the concentration of the reagent reaches a maximum (optimum concentration) and then decreases. This can be explained by changes in permeability of the deposit layer with the concentration of the cleaning agent. Another explanation is the breakage of proteins by acid or alkali which produces more fouling materials and causes less cleaning efficiency. Operating conditions affect the cleaning process. At higher stirring speeds (turbulent flow) or longer cleaning time better removal of deposits and higher cleaning efficiency were observed. The sequential cleaning process may or may not improve the cleaning efficiency. When acidic cleaning was followed by washing with a surfactant an improvement was achieved. This can be attributed to the incomplete removal of deposits by acid. However further cleaning with acid can not improve the cleaning efficiency. During whey processing fouling occurs by deposition of foulants of mostly proteins and macromolecules on the membrane surface or in the membrane matrix. Large substances (compared to the membrane pores) settle on the membrane surface and the small species penetrate and are adsorbed in the membrane pores. Cleaning dissolves and removes the adsorbed foulants from the membrane.  相似文献

The Arch of Peace, by Luigi Cagnola, is one of the most famous neoclassical monuments in Milan. It has been subjected to conservative intervention in 1998. In the present paper the efficacy of the consolidation by means of barium hydroxide has been evaluated. The stone material showed severe degradation phenomena as: erosion, pulverisation, exfoliation. The analytical data acquired through X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectrophotometry (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX), allowed to compare the conditions of stone before and after the treatment with barium hydroxide. The presence of barium has been put in evidence mainly on the surface as barium sulphate, whereas barium is only sporadically present within the thickness of the decayed material. The treatment was judged not satisfying and its inefficacy is, most probably, due to a not suitable cleaning procedure carried out before the consolidation.  相似文献

Nanofiltration systems are generally cleaned chemically. The optimal choice of the cleaning agent is a function of membrane material and foulant in a complex manner. This study evaluated the cleaning efficiency and effects of several cleaning agents on NF255 nanofiltration membrane. The nanofiltration pilot plant was fed with conventionally-treated surface water from a water treatment plant in southern Finland. Fouled membranes were cleaned weekly with different chemicals and procedures, and the cleaning efficiencies were compared in terms of flux recoveries and foulant removals. On the basis of the cleaning chemical analysis, the fouling material consisted of biofouling, organic deposits and metal complexes. In these circumstances, alkaline cleaners with chelatants resulted in the most efficient cleaning both in terms of flux recovery and foulant removal. Alkaline cleaning modified the membrane and improved the flux substantially in comparison to the virgin state. The results demonstrate that the choice of chemical cleaning agent is critical to cleaning efficiency, both technically and economically. The same flux recovery could be reached either by a single cleaning phase or by three sequential cleaning phases.  相似文献

为了提高直接甲醇燃料电池阳极催化剂的催化活性, 利用O3处理的Vulcan XC-72碳黑为载体, 制备Pt-Ru/C催化剂, 并与未经处理的Vulcan XC-72为载体制备的Pt-Ru/C催化剂的性能进行比较. 采用XPS和BET测试了O3处理后碳粉表面的含氧浓度和比表面积, 结果表明, 随处理时间延长, 碳表面含氧浓度先减少后增加, 比表面积减小; 而随着处理温度升高, 比表面积增加, 含氧浓度先减少后增加. XRD, TEM方法对催化剂的结构及形貌的表征结果表明: O3处理的碳黑为载体制备的Pt-Ru/C催化剂粒径均匀、分散性好. 在0.5 mol/L CH3OH和0.5 mol/L H2SO4溶液中, 利用粉末微电极测试了循环伏安和稳态极化曲线, 结果表明: O3处理碳粉为载体的催化剂比未经处理的碳粉为载体的催化剂的活性高. 研究了O3处理碳粉的时间和温度对催化剂性能的影响, 电化学测试表明: 140 ℃处理6 min的碳粉为载体制备的催化剂对甲醇的电催化氧化活性最佳.  相似文献

In the conservation field, the original morphology and texture of the paper surface represent an important aspect to be preserved as historical evidence of the papermaking process. The aim of this preliminary research is to evaluate the effects of aqueous (cellulose ethers, rigid gels of Agar and Gellan gum) and not aqueous cleaning treatments (a typical dry cleaning treatment with wishab sponge) on the original surface morphology of late nineteenth century paper. Nineteenth century newspaper paper was chosen because it is strongly affected by cellulose oxidation and depolimerization due to the rough materials (wood pulp) and the papermaking process used at the time and to the environmental conditions (light, humidity, temperature) to which such paper has been subjected. A preliminary characterization of the paper with Herzberg and Phloroglucinol reactives and Fourier Transform infrared Spectroscopy analysis was performed to understand the paper composition and the type of inorganic fillers used. The paper surface microtopography was then measured by contact profilometry to analyze the effects of the cleaning treatments on paper surface roughness. The effects of the cleaning action was qualitatively evaluated by means of stereo microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Preliminary results suggest that the treatments which are most respectful of the original surface micromorphology of the paper are those based on the use of rigid gels (Agar and Gellan gum), because they determine the smallest variation in the roughness of surface paper, unlike the application of cellulose ethers by brush. This finding was confirmed by statistical analysis of the roughness results by means of ANOVA and Tukey HSD post hoc test.  相似文献

Research concerning the formation and removal of black crusts on various historical objects is approached from many different angles. The so-called "yellowing effect", observed after laser treatment for cleaning purposes, has also received a lot of attention. Evidence regarding this phenomenon differs considerably and the actual mechanisms are still speculated on by researchers. In an attempt to elucidate the processes involved in the yellowing effect associated with laser cleaning, a new analytical technique has been used to investigate the black crust, a region of the sample cleaned by laser irradiation at 1064 nm and another region of the same sample subjected to further laser irradiation at 355 nm, on a limestone sample from the cathedral of Seville in Spain. Micro-Raman spectrometry offers the advantage of spatial chemical characterization of the stone, based upon its molecular makeup and was performed on the bulk body of the stone. Raman and scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM/EDXS) results indicate that the surfaces cleaned by irradiation at 1064 nm and by double irradiation at 1064 and 355 nm differed in terms of their calcium sulphate, calcium oxalate and iron oxide content, and that this could contribute to the difference in colour observed.  相似文献

Analysis of experimental results reveals that, in general, reactions of excess electrons in aqueous systems followed at the time scales electron spectral relaxations, or at shorter time scales, are dispersive while reactions followed at longer time scales than those of spectral relaxations are classical. In the latter case the internal rearrangements in the system have to be enough effective to preserve the distribution in electron reactivity during the course of reactions and because of this the classical kinetics is valid. The effects of system dynamics on kinetics of excess electrons are rationalized in terms of the renewal theory with a fractal set of renewal moments.  相似文献

Two types of platinum deposits were obtained by potentiostatic deposition onto Ti substrates, namely platinum black (Pt B) and platinum nanowires (Pt NW) with the latter being achieved through a porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane at the solution/substrate interface. Surface characterization of these deposits was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) in sulphuric acid solution. Surface properties for Pt NW revealed a predominant presence of (1 0 0) crystallographic planes, not present in Pt B deposit grown in the same conditions. Also, Pt NW exhibits an increased resistance to electrochemically active surface area (EASA) loss upon potential cycling in acidic solution, as compared to Pt B.  相似文献

Abstract

Traditional cleaning methods with organic solvents often are not suitable for removal of aged resin so researchers have to find new formulations. In this work, a case study is reported in which new microemulsions were applied on the surface of a painting covered by some aged resin layers used during a previous restoration. Based on the quality of the intervention and the analysis of a sample of the varnish carried out with both MALDI-TOF and ATR-IR spectrometers, it was conjectured that this undesired material could be an acrylic polymer. So it was chosen to use xylene, ethyl acetate and propylene carbonate (XYL and EAPC) microemulsions (O/W oil in water). The first is able to solubilise only acrylic polymers, the second may solve both acrylic and vinyl resins. The first has had the greatest effect allowing complete varnish removal and original artwork restoration.  相似文献

The effect of zinc chloride (ZnCl2) on the cationic polymerization of isobutyl vinyl ether (IBVE) initiated by carboxyl groups on a carbon black surface was investigated. Although the polymerization of IBVE was initiated by carboxyl groups on the surface, the rate of polymerization was small and the molecular weight distribution (MWD) of poly IBVE was very broad. The rate of the polymerization was found to be drastically increased, and 100% monomer conversion was achieved in a short time by the addition of ZnCl2. The number-average molecular weights (Mn) of the polyIBVE were directly proportional to monomer conversion in the polymerization initiated by the carbon black/ZnCl2 system. By addition of the monomer at the end of the first-stage polymerization, the added monomer was smoothly polymerized at the same rate as in the first stage. The Mn of the polymer was in excellent agreement with the calculated value, assuming the polyIBVE chain forms per unit carboxyl group on the surface and MWD was narrow (Mw/Mn = 1.2 ~ 1.3). Based on the results, it is concluded that carbon black/ZnCl2 system has an ability to initiate the living cationic polymerization of IBVE. Furthermore, it was found that polyIBVE was grafted onto the carbon black surface after the quenching of the living polymer with methanol. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Pyrolysis has the potential of transforming used tyres into useful recyclable products. Pyrolytic carbon black is one of the most important products of tyre pyrolysis. Waste tyres were pyrolysed at 450 °C in a batch reactor under atmospheric pressure. The recovered pyrolytic carbon black residues were studied to investigate their characteristics for use as a possible adsorbent. EDX elemental analysis and surface area determinations were used to investigate the distinctive features of pyrolytic carbon black. Due to various inorganic additives of the original tyre that contaminated the carbon black obtained, it was treated with acid for demineralization. The demineralized carbon black was activated at 900 °C in a furnace. It was observed that acid treatment and activation increased the surface areas and decreased the concentration of contaminants. Furthermore, adsorption characteristics of methylene blue on acid‐treated and activated carbon black (prepared via acid treatment) were compared with those of commercial activated carbon in liquid phase adsorption. It was found that adsorption capacity of methylene blue on acid‐treated activated carbon black was greater.  相似文献

以X射线光电子能谱(XPS)对废轮胎回转窑中试热解炭表面组分进行实验分析,研究热解炭本体与表面的异同,热解温度、热解炭粒径的影响。与商用炭黒比较,废轮胎热解炭本体中含有更多的Zn、Si、S、Mg等杂质元素,各组分与热解温度没有大的相关性;热解炭表面在热解过程中形成了一吸附沉积层,表面层中杂元素的质量分数极低;低于500℃时,热解不完全,吸附沉积物较少。热解炭按粒径存在一定分布,粒度<0.074 mm的粉末状热解炭来自表面磨损脱落的粉末,各种杂元素的质量分数很低;Zn元素的相对质量分数随热解炭粒径的减小而减少。对热解炭进行深度剖析发现,吸附层是极薄的,表面层对本体的影响是极小的;定量分析结果表明,以C质量分数为100,则O为4~6,S、N约为1,Zn小于0.6,而商用炭黑中S约为0.3,不含N、Zn。  相似文献

Any restoration performed on cultural heritage artworks must guarantee a low impact on the treated surfaces. Although completely risk-free methods do not exist, the use of tailor-made procedures and the continuous monitoring by portable instrumentation is surely one of the best approaches to conduct a modern restoration process. In this work, a portable Raman monitoring, combined sometimes with spectroscopic techniques providing the elemental composition, is the key analysis technique in the three-step restoration protocol proposed: (a) in situ analysis of the surface to be treated (original composition and degradation products/pollutants) and the cleaning agents used as extractants, (b) the thermodynamic study of the species involved in the treatment in order to design a suitable restoration method and (c) application and monitoring of the treatment. Two cleaning operations based on new technologies were studied and applied to two artworks on mineral supports: a wall painting affected by nitrate impact, and a black crusted stone (chalk) altarpiece. Raman bands of nitrate and gypsum, respectively, decreased after the step-by-step operations in each case, which helped restorers to decide when the treatment was concluded, thus avoiding any further damage to the treated surface of the artworks.  相似文献

In a previous paper it was demonstrated for the first time, that carbon black pigments have the ability to operate as effective singlet and triplet quenchers. This work was undertaken directly in the polymer using the inherent long-lived luminescent species as triplet donor species. In order to ascertain the effectiveness of the quenching mechanism and its inter-relationship with carbon black parameters, a total of eight different carbon black pigments have been incorporated into low density polyethylene at different concentrations (0.1, 0.2, 0.4% w/w) and their effects determined on the quenching the triplet state of a known triplet photosensitiser, benzophenone (0.05% w/w). Using phosphorescence analysis at 77 K a large variability was observed in the benzophenone triplet lifetime quenching, the effect varying with the pigment type and the concentration of pigment. Photodegradation rates on the films were also performed in order to relate the quenching effect of the carbon black with films exposed to UVA light at 70°C. An unusual synergistic effect between the carbon black and the benzophenone sensitiser was observed compared with films containing only carbon black. The implications of carbon black pigments to operate as “super quenchers”, as well as antioxidants in this study and under practical concentration conditions is discussed. Although not consistent throughout, there is some indication that low surface area carbon black pigments can be the most effective quenchers of active excited states. However, the presence of surface containing oxygen groups can be related to the synergistic effect reported, using experimental design statistical analysis.  相似文献

The discovery of 350 °C hot black smokers and associated metal sulfides at the East Pacific Rise in 1979 was the onset for the scientific investigation of these unique mineral deposits in the deep sea. Today, more than 200 hydrothermal sites are known in the world oceans of which about 30 are currently hydrothermally active. The massive sulfide deposits forming in the vicinity of the hot seafloor vents are the modern analogues of massive sulfide deposits that are located on the continents today but were originally formed at the bottom of ancient oceans. This makes the black smokers of the deep sea important natural laboratories for ore deposit research. On the other hand, high concentrations of base and precisous metals in the seafloor deposits have raised the question, whether it might be possible one day to mine these deposits in an economically and environmentally feasible way. The first steps towards seafloor mining have already been taken.  相似文献

The surface texture and chemistry of WE43 absorbable magnesium stents (AMS) and tube specimens processed by chemical and reactive ion etching (RIE) were investigated. Tube specimens were produced in three different conditions, namely as-received, chemically etched and plasma etched. The results of scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy studies showed that plasma etching and cleaning reduced surface roughness by 10 % compared to chemical etching alone, and completely removed surface deposits remaining from the chemical etch process. The same combination of chemical and plasma etching processes was employed to produce AMS. Expansion tests demonstrated uniform stent expansion characteristics and confirmed the viability of the device. The results of this study show that RIE is an effective surface modification technique for absorbable magnesium devices.  相似文献

A comprehensive approach is proposed for studying the microstructure of filled rubbers by optical and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The optical results are found to be dependent on the illumination angle. Algorithms based on the mathematical morphology are developed for the processing of optical images (removing scratches, identifying agglomerates). AFM-images are treated by a segmentation method which separates a continuous surface into segments that match filler. Parameters of secondary filler structures and the size of an area of homogeneous filler dispersion are obtained from the analysis of the segmented images. Seven carbon black filled rubbers with different mixing times are investigated. The combination of AFM with optical imaging techniques makes it possible to perform a quantitative structural analysis at scales from tens of nanometers to tens of microns, and to establish the relationship between the mixing time and the filler microstructure over the whole range of filler peculiarities.  相似文献

The primary aim of this paper was to develop a more effective and economical procedure for cleaning polyethylene hollow fiber microfiltration membranes that have been used for removing oil from contaminated seawater. Alkaline cleaning showed higher recovery of operating cycle time but lower permeate flux recovery than acid cleaning. The combination of both alkaline and acid cleaning agents gave the best operating cycle time and flux recoveries (e.g. 96% and 94%, respectively). As the cleaning agent soaking time was reduced, the actual operating cycle time was reduced. However, the ratio of operating time/chemical cleaning time increased as the soaking time was reduced. The soaking time was recommended to be as short as possible (8–10 h) in the design of small capacity plants and 30 h or higher in case of large capacity plants. SEM analysis showed that in case of alkaline cleaning, most of the pores remained covered with a foulant layer, resulting in low flux recovery. The SEM results of acid cleaned membranes showed more complete removal of the foulant layer from the pores resulting in better flux recovery. Surface analysis of membranes cleaned with combined acid/base agents showed the best results. A membrane surface similar to the original one was obtained. The long-term objective is to increase the understanding of membrane fouling phenomena, preventive means and membrane cleaning processes as it applies to the clean-up and desalination of oil contaminated seawater.  相似文献

Understanding the mechanical properties of biofilms, especially the force required to disrupt them and remove them from substrata is very important to development of antibiofouling strategies. In this work, a novel micromanipulation technique with a specially designed T-shaped probe has been developed to serve as an experimental means to measure directly the adhesive strength of biofouling deposits on the surface of a glass test stud. The basic principle of this novel technique is to pull away a whole biofilm accumulated on the surface of a glass test stud with T-shaped probe, and to measure simultaneously the force imposed on the biofilm. The adhesive strength between the biofilms and the surface to which they are attached, is defined as the work per unit area required to remove the biofilms from the surface. The biofouling experiments were performed on an elaborate design of a simulated heat exchanger system. A monoculture of Pseudomonas fluorescens was chosen as the fouling microorganism for the laboratory studies. Results indicate that the adhesive strength of the biofilm was affected by the conditions of operation, such as biofilm age, nutrient concentration, suspended cell concentration, pH, surface roughness of the substratum and fluid velocity. As noted, the effect of fluid velocity on the biofilm adhesive strength seemed to overwhelm other factors. At the same operating conditions, the biofilm adhesive strength increased as the fluid velocity increased within the range of 0.6-1.6m/s. In addition, the flow-related biofilm structures were observed that biofilms generally grew as a more compact pattern at the higher fluid velocity. Apparently, the fluid velocity can affect the biofilm structure, which in turn determines the biofilm adhesive strength. The knowledge of the biofilm adhesive strength with associated influences of the operating conditions may be used to define better cleaning procedures.  相似文献
